Chapter 12
99% Males 1% FemalesI finally decided on my song and I was lucky enough to find the instrumental to the song as well. Well, Ra.D! I can’t help it but fall in love with your song, “I’m in Love,” I thought, as I smiled. The only problem was that I had to look for the guy that was the coordinator of Soul Candy. He’s a Literature major, so I never see him unless if he’s in Mom’s office, grading things or talking to her. He’s her TA, a teacher’s pet, because he’s only a freshman and already a TA? Yup, definitely a major teacher’s pet.
As I walked towards the building Mom’s office was in, I spotted him. I quickly yelled, “Yah! Lee Jonghyun!!”
I ran towards him since his back was still facing me. “Lee Jonghyun!” I repeated.
He turned around, startled. “Uh, yeah?” he asked.
His long black, wavy locks framed his pale face. Freaking Lu Han and him… Damn, another pretty boy that looks like a girl. For some reason, I keep on forgetting how he looks like.
“I was wondering if I could get on the Soul Candy list.” I said, worried. The event was tomorrow and they don’t usually put people on the list this late.
Jonghyun flashed me a confused look. He quickly took off his backpack on the grass and took out a beat up, old composition book. He flipped to the middle and the written words on the page.
“You’re already on the list.” confirmed Jonghyun.
“What?”
“Oh, yeah… Daehyun asked me to put your name on there last week for singing.” he said, remembering.
I completely forgot that they were best friends.
“Anyways, what you are you going to be performing?”
“Ra.D’s “I’m in Love.” And, I already found the instrumental.” I replied, quickly.
Jonghyun gave me an unexplainable look and that made me confused. Did I upset him? “Good.” he said, nodding his head. “Just send me the song ASAP.”
“I already sent it to your student email.” I said.
He smiled, nodding. Every student has a student email that the school and professors send messages to. The email address format is the same for everyone since it’s just: [email protected]. So, it was pretty simple to get into contact with him. But, since I needed to get on the list before tomorrow, I had to track him down instead of waiting in front of the computer.
“If you didn’t let me on the list, then it would have just been a weird an email.” I said, shrugging.
“That would be weird.” laughed Jonghyun. “Getting Ra.d’s “I’m in Love” instrumental from my professor’s daughter isn’t exactly normal.”
“Well, at least I have a reason.” I said. “And, it’s not something random.”
Jonghyun and I laughed together. “That’s great that you planned ahead because I was going to go back to my dorm to get the CD ready for tomorrow.” he said.
“I’ll see you tomorrow night then.” I said, waving him good bye. “Bye.”
I quickly glanced at my watch; I was already late for my math class. Great. We have a test today too. What bad luck! By the time I walked in, the test already started. I quickly walked over to Professor Park for the exam and then searched for a seat. Someone had already taken my usual seat next to Lu Han since I came in so late. Fortunately, there was an open seat at the back.
As I walked past Lu Han, he glanced up at me and quickly back down at his exam. Ever since what happened on Saturday night with the bug bite, Lu Han and I haven’t interacted for more than 10 minutes. Fortunately, Mom and Dad weren’t thinking anything weird when they saw us. They were just surprised that he and I how close we got.
Meanwhile, it was Aunt Lai’s teasing and taunting that made things awkward. She’s convinced that Lu Han and I are either together or that we have feelings for each other. And then I tell her that there’s nothing going on with that baby face and I.
Then, she goes on thinking that Lu Han was probably just trying to get me jealous by agreeing to go on that date. And that he made me go along with them because he actually wanted to take me out on a date instead, but doesn’t want to admit it.
Lu Han overheard the conversation and confronted me about his actions. He explained that he does not have those types of feelings for me and really did use me as an excuse from getting intimately involved with Sooyoung. Well, that was nice to be reminded that I’m a usable person. But! The main annoying thing is that he actually thought that I believed Aunt Lai. By the way, that conversation lasted 2 minutes and Lu Han was talking so fast that I almost couldn’t register what he said.
That is how awkward it has become. I’m assuming that it was because of Mom and Dad’s comment. “We didn’t know that you guys were so close. That’s good because we can keep the Chung and Ching family close into the far future.” I felt immediate tension after they said that between Lu Han and I. I guess the last thing he would want to hear from them is that. If they asked if we were together like the rest of society, Lu Han would have probably bought the next flight ticket home.
After I finished my test, I looked over it 2 times to double check any miscalculations. When everything looked good, I quickly stood up and was startled. Lu Han was done too and had stood up at the same time I did. We both handed in our exam together.
Then, we walked home together. In silence.
