“This is ridiculous,” Hitomi agreed wholeheartedly, nodding her head fervently at the truth spoken through Minjoo’s mouth. She crossed her arms, expelling an overdramatic sigh as the girl beside her massaged her temples—throbbing, pained, in disbelief. “I can’t believe I agreed.”
Minjoo’s lips were pursed, twisted into an all-familiar sneer. “I can’t believe you agreed,” the older of the two said. “When I asked you out yesterday, I only have rejection in mind.”
“You don’t even consider I have my own bet to consider, too,” muttered Hitomi, glaring pettily as she turned away. “And now we’re here, stuck with each other. Now what?”
“Carry on with the” – Minjoo shuddered, looking extremely horrified and disgusted – “Date. Ugh. I can’t believe myself.”
“Neither can I,” agreed Hitomi again, looking equally frustrated. She looked at the other girl, opening as if to say something but Hitomi shut her down as she raised her palm. “But let’s just do this—and get our money.”
It seemed to work. Minjoo closed her parted lips, pressing them flat against each other, making a long and thin flat line that made Hitomi doubt whether it was supposed to be a frown or a smile, or half and half. “Yes. Let’s,” Minjoo grumbled, shoving her hand forward for Hitomi to hold. “We’re on a d-date, so we should hold hands.”
Hitomi slapped her hand away. “Piss off
