Bleeding Hearts
“You two, how did you end up together? I wasn’t exactly on speaking terms with your father Mina, but I was pretty sure Sehun was with your sister?” Mr. Byun said casually as they finished up dinner.
Mina glanced up at the head of the table and for the first time that night saw a glimpse of the calculating man Sehun had warned her about. It was faint, but it was there. When the wedding happened there were rumors circulating about their story. Some were false and outlandish, others not so much. They had both kept to their story and after enough times of repeating it, it had replaced all those rumors.
“Don’t ask them that!” His wife whispered and he laughed, “It’s just an honest question. Plus, I’m sure they don’t mind”
“He’s right. It’s a little embarrassing to admit, but Sehun used to date my older sister. When they broke up we just became close and things went off from there” Mina said lightly, she meant to turn to look at Sehun, but when her eyes met Baekhyun’s she stopped.
His brow was raised and she got the sinking feeling that he didn’t buy it at all. The lie had become so well-practiced that sometimes she forgot that it was a lie.
“That must make for awkward family dinners!” Mrs. Byun commented, a smile on her face as she stared at the two.
“Not at all” Sehun cut in, placing his hand on Mina’s, “That was all in the past. What matters is the present right? So why keep bringing up the past?” Sehun kept a smile on his face, but Mina heard the faintest edge of hostility behind his words.
“He’s right” Baekhyun said as everyone stood up when the plates were being cleared from the table, “Speaking of the present, I heard about your accident Mina. I hope you liked the flowers”
Mina stared at Baekhyun for a moment.
“They were beautiful. Thank you” She said, her voice falling quiet.
“You’re the one who sent those flowers?” Sehun asked, trying very hard to maintain his easy going pose. He wasn’t about to let him see just how that unsettled him.
Although the fact that Mina had barely taken her eyes off him certainly didn’t help. How was it that they had met again?
“I did. I thought it’d be a nice gesture”
“That was nice of you son, now Sehun, come over here I have to ask you about last quarters profits” Mr. Byun said as he led Sehun off the other side of the room.
He spared a glance at Mina who stayed in her place. Mr. Byun said something and Sehun only pretended to half listen as he watched Baekhyun disappear further into the house and a few seconds later, Mina went after him. Alarms went off in Sehun’s head as he turned back to Mr. Byun and tried to figure out how to end the conversation as politely as possible without making it painfully obvious that he was running after his wife.
Mina hesitated at the doorway to what looked like a small library. She stared at Baekhyun’s silhouette by the window and gathering up all her courage she knocked on the open door. He turned to her, a smug smile sitting on his face. With the slightest hint of embarrassment she realized he knew she was going to come after him.
“I’m glad you liked the flowers” He said, walking around her as she walked in.
She heard the door shut quietly behind her and turned to find Baekhyun leaning against it. He looked different from that night. He was in his element here. His body was all confidence and his demeanor was the same. Mina felt a little like she was being circled by a predator. Which was ridiculous, he was just a man she barely knew.
“Why were you at the party that
