Fifteen

The Mission (Got7 & BAP)

When Jackson walked in that morning, I must've looked terrible. I got no sleep and nightmares haunted me all night. Junhong was always the main character of them. How I couldn't help him, how Yongguk treated him, how he shot me, how he was shot. Every scenario played out.

"Do you want coffee or anything?" That's when I knew he could tell. I wonder how big the bags were underneath my eyes.

"No. I don't like the coffee you have here." He shrugged and sat down again. I wish I could sit up so anyone near my bed wasn't looking down at me.

"I'm here to talk to you about the options that we have for you, being a defector."

"Did the doctors say I could sit up?" He shook his head and I groaned.

"You're being discharged in a few days. They said that they'd start trying to help you work around the stitches after lunch." I huffed in amusement. Do they even know who I am? Oh, right I'm just a normal defector.

"I've been through worse. Where do I go when I get discharged?" He opened the folder he had on his lap.

"That is what I'm here to tell you. Are you ready to listen for a while?" I nodded and he flipped the page up.

"I actually have one condition before we start." He looked back to me and nodded.

"We'll try our best to accommodate." This was what I woke up always thinking about. How could I get my brother back? One ex-soldier against twenty or thirty would never work. I would really die if that was the case. But, I couldn't stand the thought of Junhong, doing what I was supposed to do. I needed him back, and now I had people who could help me.

"If I agree to any one of these, then you have to help me get my brother back." He sat there, thinking for a while.

"That might be hard, HyeIn. Do you know that he's here in South Korea?"

"Yes. He's doing what I was supposed to do, meaning he'll most likely aim for Tuan first."

"I'll try to convince Tuan to get him for yo-"

"No. I want to get him myself, I just need back-up. I cannot beat twenty armed soldiers by myself. Even if it's only my brother, I couldn't fight him, and I would have nowhere to detain him until he comes back to normal."

"Well, that is option C."

"Tell me that one first." He shook his head and I glared at him. I'm going to get lines on my face now...

"I have to go through and tell you what your options are. C is the most drastic one, you need to see all of them." My mouth went into a straight line.

"Fine. But know that I'll pick C before any other." He nodded and looked down at the papers again.

"Option A is the simplest. We get you housing, help you learn the ways of South Korea, get your papers in so you are a citizen, get you through a quick, no jury trial, try to get your brother back, and you live a life in South Korea. Only thing is that your brother might have to live somewhere else till he is also ready to adapt. You might not see him for a year."

"No. Next one." He sighed and knew this was going to be a lost cause. He should just read option C right now.

"Option B is that we relocate you to a different country, get you to a refugee agency there, set up a witness protection program for you and your brother, and you get new identities. You also might not be able to contact your brother for a few years."

"Give me an option that gives me the option of saving my brother and seeing him when he wakes up?" He rolled his eyes at me and I put my hand up to slap him lightly.

"What was that for?"

"I'm your elder. Don't roll your eyes at me."

"Option C, the one that you want, involves you training in a special NIS program. You have to go through a month or two of military training, and then espionage training. You also have to go through some testing and questioning since you are North Korean. You will always have an agent attached to you, ready to kill you if you mess up or try anything. You won't get any electronic access until you have finished the training and are able to go out and get your brother."

"I'll do that one. I'm not afraid of military tra-"

"But your agent who is attached to you is Mark most likely. There will be a sign up for volunteers and they have specific instructions to kill you if you mess up. Junior is Youngjae's agent, Youngjae chose option C as well, but you were the one he wanted to get. Junior is Youngjae's friend, but he felt betrayed at first so he has the ability to kill him. We all know Mark has the ability to kill you, so he'll volunteer first."

"I'll deal with Tuan to get my brother back. Anything to get my brother back."

"I wasn't done. Junior and Youngjae live together because you have to be monitored 24/7. You get no gun, so you have to trust your agent for your protection. They mostly have to go everywhere with you and Vice Versa. So, that means your agent a-"

"Tuan and I have to live together?!"

"Saying that Tuan is your agent. You just have to live with them until your training is done. It's a three-month deal. This happens because 10 out of 10 North Korean defectors who want to go into Option C are male. You are the first female."

"Wait, that means that when I was with Youngjae in Busan Junior knew?" Jackson shook his head.

"No. He came to Junior 2 days before they had the joint plan to get you. He dropped the hint for Tuan, but Junior didn't tell Tuan where you were exactly. Sign this paper so I can make it semi-official."

"But Youngjae knew? Like I was living with a defector for a week and I didn't know it. Don't use my signature for fraudulent accounts or anything."

"Well...pretty much. And don't worry, it's just you signing yourself over to the NIS for training."

"Call that over here and let me fight him." Jackson laughed and I tried to reach for his phone.

"I'll go back to the station right now and process your request. Be nice while I'm gone, the nurses carry guns." I rolled my eyes at him as he stood up.

"Can you possibly bar Tuan from trying to become my agent?" For what seemed like the tenth time, he shook his head.

"No, I'm a police chief and only work in Human Resources at the NIS. Anything that gets into the field part of it, I can't control. I'll try to get a little sign that says "NOT MARK TUAN", but I can't guarantee anything."

"So, it will most likely be Tuan."

"Sorry?" I groaned and closed my eyes.

"Can you kill me now?"

"No, you agreed to the contract. I just have to make it up so you can sign it."

"This just makes my day."

"I also have something that might make it even better. As of now, you won't be declared as a North Korean to anyone outside of the people on the operation. You were just a field agent for the NIS in disguise. That means you are not protected by you 'Defector' title." He coughed.

"Which means?"

"Song Mino and his family want to visit you and ask why you never told them you were a secret NIS agent. You can't reveal that you're North Korean to anyone who doesn't already know." I shrugged.

"Okay, and you're telling me mannerisms because?"

"The Song's are in the waiting room. I said you weren't protected, so there's no list of who can't and can go in and out. You're basically stuck with anyone who enters your room unless you call the hospital security on them."

"Wait, they're here and want to see me? What is today?"

"February 11th. Tell Mino that you have to go into a witness protection program after this Valentine's Day. I have a feeling you want to get rid of him since you don't need him anymore."

"How about on Valentine's Day?"

"You want to break the boy's heart?"

"Yes." He laughed at my serious face and shrugged.

"Too bad. Have a nice chat with your in-laws. Oh wait, aren't Youngjae's family your in-laws..?"

"If you make any jokes about that, Tuan's going to have to shoot me down. Youngjae and I aren't anything anymore."

"I'll tell him you said that."

"Please do."

"I'll be back in a few hours or whatever. Survive." He stepped out before I could protest this again and I groaned. Now I have to deal with the perfectionist mother and my annoying "boyfriend" and his father. I looked around the room for the tranquilizers Youngjae used on me the first day. I bet a whole syringe of that could kill me, maybe even just half of it. Only if I could reach it.

"Oh my goodness, is that our HyeIn?!" I turned to the door and tried to bite back my groan. They've arrived. Mino's mom ran over to my bed first, putting everything she brought on top of the table.

"You look so skinny! Are they even feeding you? I'll file a report on them, I swear!"

"I'm fine, don't worry. Just a little hole." Mino sat down in the ever popular chair and grabbed my hand. I turned to him and he genuinely looked like he was scared for my safety.

"Are you okay, Jagi? Do you know how worried I was?" I smiled at him and thought of a way to get out of this.

"I'm fine. I got stitches and everything. I'm being discharged in a few days I think." His dad sat down on the sofa that was on the wall opposite of my bed.

"What happens after that?" At least there was one man in this room was smart.

"I'm being relocated on the fifteenth of this month. To China."

"Oh dear. Is that really true?" She held her hand up to and tears filled her eyes. I didn't think she was that fond of me.

"Yes, they think I'm in danger here."

"Will you ever come back?"

"Maybe in the next year. It's really all up to the head of the NIS what I do."

"Oh, Mino..." His mom seriously looked like she was about to bawl.

"I have a meeting I have to get to. Honey, let's go, okay?" She nodded and they both went out the door, leaving Mino and me alone. There was an uncomfortable silence before he let go of my hand.

"You couldn't have told me, I shouldn't get mad over this." Please be mad. Break up with me or something.

"I'm sorry, Mino." he laughed and stood up, a hand trailing over his chin.

"This is a problem, because now that you're going, it complicates things. It really does." Yeah, our relationship. You know it's better to end it now.

"What things-"

"Well, I was going to ask you to marry me on Valentine's Day." Oh great, two men who want to marry me, but I have no desire to. Isn't this just a great drama?

"Mino, you know I can't-"

"Yeah, I get that. And keeping in touch is probably something you can't do."

"So we have no other option do we?"

"Are you going with anyone?"

"My partner." Who hasn't been decided yet?

"Who's that?"

"You don't know her." He relaxed at the mention that "my partner" was a female.

"So, that means we're going to have to take a br-"

"I have everything ready for China, you're getting discharged on the 15th, so I'm getting an early start. What do you want me to take for y...Oh, I'm sorry I didn't know you were talking. I can le-"

"Mark?! Why are you here?!" I turned to the intruder and glared at him.

Why are you here? I mouthed and he smirked.

"I'm just helping my partner get ready for China. It's common courtesy."

"Partner?! I thought you said they were a girl?!" Tuan rolled his eyes at Mino.

"You'd really think she'd tell you that she's going to be living with me for a few years? Honestly, are you that dense?"

"Hey, if you could leave Tuan, that'd be great," I said through my teeth and he just smiled at me.

"I just came to tell you that you can discharge earlier than planned. I'll leave now." He pointed to the door and turned 45 degrees.

"No, we're done here, Mark. You can talk now." He walked out, but Tuan caught him on the shoulder. Doesn't he know when to stop? Mino's about ready to kill him. I'm about ready to kill him.

"If it were up to me, I told her to tell you earlier, but we all know how she works." Mino took one step forward, then back, and then wailed a nice one to Tuan's left cheek. He stormed out and Tuan stood there shocked, holding his cheek. I brought my hands up and clapped the loudest I could.

"Honestly, that was a textbook punch. I wish I recorded that... Now that's over, get the out of my room before I call security. " He turned to look at me and glared.

"I just showed you how I think of other people and here you are, cheering for the opponent." I laughed.

"Who said you weren't my opponent?"

"Well, when the NIS posts a wanted for an overseer in my department, I'll be the first one to contact them."

"I wish you would, prick." He smirked and went to lean up against the wall again.

"Wish granted, . I came here to apologize so Youngjae wouldn't kill me, but it seems like men who have a thing for you like to punch me. I think you should apologize for your ex-boy toy's behavior."

"I apologize that he didn't break your nose."

"This training is going to be ing hell for you, you have no idea." I narrowed my eyes at you.

"Do you have any idea what I've been through? It won't be that bad." He smirked and let out a laugh.

"You're very optimistic for a North Korean. I can't wait till I get to interrogate you so I can hear your life story and sob along with you. I bet it would make a good movie."

"Are you here to provoke me? Because if you are, I'll get Youngjae in here to kill you." He pushed off of the wall and shook his head.

"I just did you a favor, that means you owe me. That's the way I like to start off all of my work relations."

"Aren't you manipulative."

"Thank you. Now, I'll be back to get you in three days and bring you to your new humble abode. If Jackson finds me in here, I'm dead."

"Stay in here, it's my dream." He rolled his eyes at me and turned.

"Remember what I said about letting you die?" He looked back over his shoulder, "It will be fun when I'm the one who did it."

Chapter 48: I almost screamed when I saw that this had been updated recently. I was truly surprised, thank you so much. I hope you are doing fine, safe and healthy.
This is one of my favourite stories ever on this app and I've already read it more than twice. There is something about the characterisation of the protagonists and the dynamic of their relationship that is so intriguing and riveting that I come back to this quite often. I'm so excited to see how the plot will turn out. Please come back to this more often :):)
Thanks for the update again. Stay safe :)
