“What?!” The wine glass fell on the floor, shards of glass scattering everywhere. The clicking of heels followed, along with a frustrated sigh.

“How can you be so reckless?!”

“What do you want us to do, samonim?”

There was silence for a few minutes. “If he continues to investigate, sooner or later he’d know it was all me. Find a way to stop him.”

The men bowed and exited the room. Another crash resonated within the halls as another wine glass flew across the room.

“She… she did that?” Jungkook scrunched his nose and looked at Sera. She pouted and threw a glare at Kai.

Kai was still laughing. “And not only that!” She also—“

“Okay, stop telling him embarrassing things!” She kicked his leg under the table and he winced. Jungkook chuckled and ruffled her hair. “No, no, I want to know~”

Sera frowned. “Oh, don’t enjoy this.”

“She also ran around the school campus wearing a bunny mascot costume because she had to make up for a failing grade!” Kai blurted out, guffawing loudly. Jungkook held back his laughter upon seeing Sera’s seething state, but he couldn’t help but let out a tiny chuckle. “You…”

Sera glared at him, but he went on.

“You almost… failed class?” He spat out, laughing.

“It was a home economics class! I hate home economics!”

“Of course you do, hunny, you could burn a whole house if you cook.” Kai stuck his tongue out. Sera got up from her seat and jumped to Kai’s side of the table, putting him in a headlock and cursing him without remorse.

Jungkook almost winced at the sight.

“Y-you’re scaring Jungkook! I won’t be surprised if… i-if he leaves you after this!” Kai mumbled as he gasped for air.

Sera smirked and met Jungkook’s gaze. “Oh, you knew what you were getting into, right babe?”

Jungkook made a face and looked away.

Babe.

Junghyun made sure the elders didn’t have to worry a lot. He took responsibility for every investigation and participated a lot in company matters. That night, he was sure he needed to lay off a little on the work. His head was alredy feeling heavy, and his eyes felt like it would close any minute.

Haena had some dinner meeting with her company partners, so he really was alone that night.

“You shouldn’t have let him inside my office in the first place!”

His forehead creased upon hearing Sekyung’s worried tone. He wanted to step in for a bit in her room to check, but he couldn’t help but stay still at the doorframe.

Sekung walked across the room and sighed. “You should’ve been careful. You shouldn’t have left him alone in the floor.” She said weakly, rubbing her temples.

“I’ll deal with this.” She seethed, throwing the phone on the bed and sitting on her couch.

“Kyung.”

She flinched upon seeing Junghyun there, a worried look on his face. “Someone broke inside your office?”

Sekyung bit her lower lip and closed her eyes. She couldn’t do this anymore. It was getting out of hand. She shouldn’t have started. “Hyun…” She whispered, tears threatening to fall from her eyes.

Junghyun was quick to sit at her side, holding her shoulder gently. He sought for her eyes, but she was looking away.

“Please, tell me what’s happening…”

“I—“

“Is this about your dad? I know you told me he’s… gone, but we haven’t really talked about this.” He said carefully. Sekyung clenched her fist at the memory.

Shim Taekyung. Her biological father. The investigation report.

Death: STY died in a plane crash. STY was on his way to London via private jet to attend a meeting with executive head of Bank of England. STY wasn’t supposed to attend, but he went in place of CEO Park of Park Industries. Reason unknown.

“What did you find out, Kyung? Tell me.”

Sekyung hiccupped. “I… He… he died in a plane crash.”

Junghyun watched more tears line down her cheeks and sqeezed her shoulder to comfort her. “Well,” she went on. “The target was supposed to be… someone else. But he died instead. He wasn't supposed to die, Hyun. H-he wasn’t—“

Junghyun held her close as she sobbed uncontrollably.

“We’re here for you. Always.” He whispered, her back. Sekyung pulled away and wiped her tears, managing to pull herself together. Now, she had the audacity to meet his eyes.

“Even if I’m not the Sekyung from before?” She said clearly. Junghyun was confused for a second, but he nodded. “Of course. You will always be part of the family, Kyung, whatever the case may be.”

Kai waved at the two before getting in his car. He honked twice before driving away. As soon as Kai’s car was out of view, Jungkook pulled Sera by her waist.

She yelped, but quickly recovered at glared at him. “What?”

He just smiled goofily and kissed her nose. She was a bit taken aback with the show of affection but she couldn’t deny that her heart was fluttering like crazy.

“Stop it. You’re disgusting.” She muttered and pushed him lightly. He chuckled and ruffled his hair. “Am I really, babe?”

She rolled her eyes as she walked ahead without him, but her lips tugged into a smile. Jungkook chuckled again and jogged to keep with her pace, but the sudden sound of screeching wheels caught him off guard.

Sera didn’t even have the time to see what was coming. All she felt was Jungkook’s arms pulling her waist and the light thud that followed. She opened her eyes and heard him wince. His arms were around her waist as they were both thrown off the cement. She noticed that her body was resting on top of his, and that was when the panic set in.

“Jeon!” She quickly got up and knelt beside him, helping him sit up. Jungkook winced again as he held his shoulder. She looked at the scrapes on his arm and frowned.

“What the hell happened?”

Jungkook looked at the black car speeding away, then to Sera who was looking at him worriedly. “Are you okay?”

“I should be asking you that!” She bit her lip.

He managed a smile. “Sera, I’m o—“

He coughed a little when she pulled him to her embrace, burying her face on his neck. She was breathing heavily, her embrace tight.

“Don’t ever do that again.” She muttered shakily. Jungkook kissed the side of her head and lifted her chin to make her face him. “Do what? Save you from speeding cars?”

She was unable to respond.

“I’m sorry babe but I can’t promise you that.” He smirked and she just lightly hit his chest. She helped him stand up and assisted him as he limped towards the car.

Sera was quiet was she drove. Jungkook was watching her, observing the creases on her forehead. He didn’t know what to feel, actually. Should he be glad that she’s evidently worried about him, or should he be bothered about that car?

“I’m really fine.” He mumbled and she glanced at him.

She continued driving silently for a few minutes.

“I’m just so done with the people I love being hurt, okay?” She whispered very lowly, Jungkook was almost unable to catch what she said. But he heard it, and it brought a smile on his face.

“I love you, Sera.”

She did not look at him, but a smile also tugged on her lips. She reached out her hand and he held it tightly.

Jang smiled as he watched Jungkook hug Sera goodbye. He went out of her room after, a smile lingering on his lips.

“You seem really happy, Young Master.” Jang said as he met him on the middle of the hallway. Jungkook grinned. “Does it show that much?”

Jang nodded and chuckled. “It’s a good thing.” He then stepped aside to Jungkook out of the house, but Jungkook remained in his place. “Actually… is Namjoon hyung home?”

Jang looked at the clock and nodded. “He must be at his study at this time.”

“I’ll stop by there for a bit, Jang. I can get out of the house on my own too, you know.” He playfully hit the older man’s shoulder. Jang grinned and nodded in understanding before leaving.

“Hyung?” Jungkook called out as soon as he found Namjoon’s study. Namjoon looked up from the stack of papers he was reviewing. He carefully set them aside and covered them with a folder. “Oh, maknae. What’s up?”

“I need to talk to you.”

“It must be something important. If it’s not, then don’t bother.” He mumbled lazily. Jungkook made a face. “Gee, hyung, you’re starting to sound like Yoongi hyung.”

Namjoon just shrugged. “I’m just really busy these days.”

“Must be with the investigation?”

Namjoon nodded. Honestly, he didn’t want the kids to be involved with the investigation. It was bad enough that they had to quit school, be homeschooled, then halt that too just for business.

“Actually, I was meaning to ask you about that.”

“Jungkook, you shouldn’t be inv—“

“A car almost hit Sera this afternoon.”

“What?” Namjoon pushed his chair back as his forehead creased. “Is she okay? Where is she?”

“Don’t worry hyung, she’s fine. I managed to… pull her aside.”

“Aish, that reckless girl.” He muttered, shaking his head. Jungkook sighed and sat on the couch. “I don’t think it was an accident, hyung. I know I saw that car being parked a few meters away from us and just sped to Sera’s direction when she started walking.”

Namjoon frowned as he watched Jungkook’s jaw clenched.

“I think it was intentional, hyung.”
