Sweet Nothings II

[continuation of chapter thirteen]

It never occurred to Sehun that he would have a son this old and the regrets started to seep in slowly. Sehun believed in living life to the fullest, he rarely had regrets until now when he saw his son who was looking at him as though he was an evil villain. He was supposed to be his son's super hero not a villain.

He swallowed past the lump in his throat, “Luhan – “

Squatting down, Luhan patted his son on his forehead. His eyes softened considerably and his voice were gentled.  “Ziyu, listen to Baba and wait for me outside – “

Ziyu shook his head stubbornly, he didn’t want to leave Luhan here alone. He saw how his Baba had cried secretly at night when he thought he was sleeping. In his arms, he was holding onto a photo of the man in front of him. “Baba – “

“Ziyu, listen to Baba, please?” Luhan asked him softly when the little boy finally nodded but not before glaring at Sehun as though telling him not to hurt his Baba.

“Is he my son?” Sehun asked through clenched teeth, he was itching to destroy something. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

The gentleness Luhan had was gone, his eyes  gone hard and Sehun’s heart sank. “Is there any point in telling you? Will you come back for me?”

“He is my son,” Sehun repeated, the itch grew and he just wanted to shake the man in front of him. How could he not tell him about such an important thing? How could he keep this from him? “No matter what, you should have told me. I have the right to know – “

Luhan was tired, he was tired of everything as he fell back down on the couch. Looking up at the ceiling, he tried to formulate an answer that wouldn’t show how bitter he was toward this man in front of him.

He was bitter, he was angry but he didn’t regret having Ziyu. His baby boy was a ray of light in his life, his angel. “You left me to chase your dreams, there is no point in telling you that you have a son.”

“That's for me to decide, not you!” Sehun bellowed and he saw Luhan flinched, his face turned ghastly white. “You have no right to keep this to yourself – “

“What’s done is done! You have your own life, I have my own life.” Luhan retorted. “Just pretend that we never see each other, pretend that nothing happened because this is – “

“I am staying here,” Sehun cut him off. “I am staying here to spend time with my son because it is my goddamn right to do so and you have no right to deny me this.”

Luhan bit down on his lips, “Sehun, don’t do this to Ziyu. Don’t build a bond with him only to leave him behind just like you did to me. He is your son so please don’t hurt him that way.”

Despite how softly Luhan had spoken those words, each word felt like a hit to Sehun’s heart. He wasn’t the only one who didn’t have it easy, Luhan didn’t have it easy too. How did the male find the strength to carry on alone?

How badly had he hurt him?
