OMG FINAL CHAPTER (Part One) It’s not like he intended for this to happen. He didn’t even wish for it, nor hope for it. He was perfectly contented over the fact that he could at least see Donghae every day, and the other would look back. But to actually spend his days engaging in more than a casual greeting with the other, Eunhyuk thought it would be too much for his heart. He wasn’t sure if this year-end play for their school festival was something he should curse or be grateful for. He had no intentions of engaging in any activities, moreover if he had to spend it with Donghae, because he couldn’t afford to make more memories he knew he would have to work so hard to forget. All he wanted was to protect his love ones until graduation, spoil himself a little and see Donghae day after day, and to leave quietly and start anew once the school year ends. This wasn’t a part of the plan. Three weeks before their final exams, and the week seniors will be receiving letters from the universities they’ve applied for, Eunhyuk’s class Literature professor, Mrs. Oh, announced that their section was assigned to present a play about a modern day fairy tale. It was also the day Donghae looked at him just because, and he was so stunned over the act he wasn’t even aware he had already volunteered himself to be the play’s producer slash student in charge. Apparently, being the producer also meant he had the say to choose who’s assigned to which, with the very minimal help and consultation from Mrs. Oh. The school festival will take place a week after their finals, so it meant that aside from the furious reviewing, studying and anticipation for their college application letters, they also have to juggle this play along with everything. It’s not like it would affect their grades or their graduation if they chose not to participate with said festival, but they were in their senior year, and therefore the last time they’ll be doing something for their school. It had also been a tradition for the entire academy to look forward the graduating year’s offering, to which no powerful parents or school contributions could fix if the students refused to take part in. If he was the class president or one of their class’ smarties, it would be hard to gather and convince the class to participate. But since he’s Eunhyuk and even though his reputation changed from bad boy to good, he’s still the king of school and the students listened to whatever he has to say. When he called in for actors, Minho surprisingly presented himself, but he was too close on withdrawing when Junhyung and the gang kept on throwing jeers. The female lead went to Sunye, Mrs. Oh picked her herself and at that Eunhyuk knew that the modern day fairy tale their teacher’s talking about definitely has to be a love story. And who would be the perfect person to write the story than the closet romantic Donghae? It took a lot of persuasion actually. He wouldn’t have the courage to do it himself so he asked for Mrs. Oh’s help. Donghae was beyond horrified of course, reasoning how he had no interest in romance and is certainly incapable on coming up with a love story. Eunhyuk knew he was bluffing, because if a guy who keeps a list of the things he wanted to do with his girlfriend isn’t romantic then he didn’t know what is. He gave in and accepted the position and Eunhyuk had to take note that Donghae looked excited. It didn’t come as a surprise when Donghae appeared the next day done with the first two acts of the play. Mrs. Oh only did minimal editing, praising Donghae for coming up with plot and scenes overnight and Eunhyuk had to repress a grin when he noticed the brunette blushed with the compliment. The amusement died out however, when Mrs. Oh declared the two of them to team up to work on the play. Of course he knew the writer and the overall leader should always consult each other, from the plot to the littlest props and Donghae was willing but Eunhyuk didn’t know if he’s ready for it himself. Could he actually spend each and every day close to Donghae and not give his feelings away? And after all this, would he still be able to move on? He’s contemplating and uncertain, but he knew, deep down inside, he wanted nothing but to be close to Donghae. - He got Jaebeom to direct the play, and Hongki for the assistant director. He used them as a lame excuse not to be alone with Donghae. It’s not like he’s scared of the tendency that he might lose grip of his emotions that’s why he’s avoiding situations that he would be left alone with Donghae, it was partially the reason yes, but it’s not what he’s actually fretting over. He was more terrified over the probability that he’ll be too vulnerable, too weak, too stupid to actually believe there’s a chance and live in a delusion that Donghae would still like him back. That when everything ends he wouldn’t be able to pull himself back again, that he wouldn’t be able to move on ever again and live the rest of his life miserable and lonely. Eunhyuk never intended to forget all about Donghae. But at the same time he wanted to be able to continue living, because he knew the Donghae who loved Hyukjae, wouldn’t want her to stop and give up on everything. In the end, it’s still all about Donghae. - “So it’s about a boy.. who fell inlove with a girl.”, Jaebeom uttered as the four of them – he, Eunhyuk, Donghae and Hongki – sat and discussed about the script. “Basically. It’s how all fairy tales go.”, Donghae answered, quite distant and inexpressive. He’s not the friendly type in the first place, even more so with the likes of the other three. Eunhyuk and Hongki were both part of the popular ones, while Jaebeom may not be in their circle of friends but he’s famous for being a part of the Theatre Club. Donghae kind of developed the habit to avoid people like them, or people in general. It’s more peaceful and trouble-free that way. But since they were all put together for this project, he’s left with no choice. “So there’s a rich girl who’s the princess, and she met a poor boy, the pauper. And they fell inlove?”, Hongki read on as he flipped through the pages. “Yes, it’s written all over it. If you can read, you don’t need to ask.”, Donghae answered with an impatient tone and Hongki widened his eyes because the nerd talked back. He’s about to counter the other when Eunhyuk scoffed, obviously finding Donghae’s remark funny and Hongki decided to shut up because his hyung might get angry. “Sounds cliché to me.”, Jaebeom commented, putting the script down before leaning on his seat’s backrest. Donghae perked an eyebrow up. “And unrealistic.”, Hongki seconded, although Donghae knew he’s more of trying to get back at him. “She’s popular and pretty, why would she fall in love with some loser? It’s much better if she picks the prince, or in this case, the cool guy in varsity jacket.” “Apparently, this loser taught her how to love.”, Donghae defended calmly. “It still doesn’t make sense. A popular girl falling inlove with a—let’s say a nerd like you. It could never happen!” “It does.” All three heads turned to the equally surprised Eunhyuk. He was just listening to their discussion, and he couldn’t help but to note how Donghae’s story was pretty close to that of their own. Back when he’s Hyukjae. But it’s not like Donghae could remember that. “I mean.. I’ve seen geniuses.. game freaks and.. four eyed nerds with really gorgeous wives and girlfriends. It’s not the first time a beautiful girl would fall for an unpopular guy. It’s possible. Especially if he’s.. really special..”, his eyes unconsciously darted to Donghae and he hoped to heavens he had fight off the blush that was threatening to spread on his face again. It frustrated him how even though he’s back on Eunhyuk’s body, he still possessed the qualities of Hyukjae, and that included him being all coy and submissive whenever there’s Donghae. He quickly tore his gaze away, clearing his throat as he faced the others’ probing stare. “Well, it’s possible, okay? We’ve seen movies and dramas like this and.. why are you getting all too worked up with this anyway, it’s just a play!”, he exclaimed, obviously uncomfortable with the sudden attention. “Let’s get this done and over with once and for all!”, he declared, refusing to go over further discussions and the others had no choice but to agree, he’s the head of the whole production anyway. The rehearsals started right away, with Minho surprising Eunhyuk because wow the boy could definitely act. He even boasted how he’s a really good actor since he’s portraying a life of a loser, and he’s nowhere near one. Eunhyuk heard Donghae snorted at that. More roles showed up, more props, more scenes and along with it were the newly discovered potentials from the graduating class. Back in the summer, Donghae thought that aside from a few of the brainy students who stayed in front of the class, all of his classmates only know how to party. He found out that Minho could actually act, Seungri could sketch scenes and setting outlines, socialite and one of Eunhyuk’s ex-girlfriend Chaeyoung has a future for interior designs, and that Hongki could actually make decisions on his own. Maybe he had been judgmental in terms of his classmates’ personalities. Maybe they weren’t entirely hopeless after all. He thought this to himself, as he quietly watched his class run around the stage, with a very busy redhead instructing them what’s need to be done. - Two weeks before the D-day, Eunhyuk sprinted through the corridors, apologizing to everyone he had bumped along the way, with books on his left hand and a pack of four apples on his right. He had been really busy with the play he had to pull off an all-nighter last evening to study for the coming week’s final examination. He woke up quite a lot later after his alarm clock rang and Kyuhyun’s daily apple dose almost slipped off his mind. If it weren’t for their maids serving apple pie for breakfast he wouldn’t have remember. Once he reached the door of the scholar room, he fixed his shirt first before turning the knob. It’s always open, because Gongchan will always arrive first and will always forget to lock the door whenever he goes out. Eunhyuk peeked and was relieved to find out that the place was deserted; the other students must have been reviewing just like him the previous night too. Soundlessly, he walked over Kyuhyun’s table, placed the bag of apples on his table and noticed a picture taped over his desk calendar. It’s a picture of Kyuhyun with a huge grin on his face as he gestures a peace sign, beside him
