Chapter 15 ★

 

 

Donghae smiled softly at the sight of his name in the number one spot of their year again. Well, he should really be consistent on topping the class wouldn't he? This would look good in his Harvard University application. Admist his schedule and all that reviewing for Physics Club, Donghae still managed to gain the highest spot, maybe he's indeed born for this kind of stuff. Mentally patting his back for a job well done, Donghae almost jumped in surprise with the sudden presence behind him. He looked back and found Yoona, who was staring at the list of the Seniors top students for the exam.

"Ya, you almost gave me a heart attack! Don't go appearing behind people just like that! Are you a mushroom?", Donghae scolded her sister but the latter ignored him, looking at a particular number before a smirk appeared on her face, shaking her head a little as she stepped back.

"It figures.", the girl whispered, her head turning to the tall boy Kyuhyun who had this huge smile on his face. Donghae tilted his head to see what, or who his sister's looking at and found the Junior's top scorer, only to frown when he noticed where he's heading to.

"Not that I'm mocking you or anything but.. don't you feel a little weird when Kyuhyun is being too close with Hyukjae-unnie?", Yoona asked suddenly, startling Donghae a little.

"W-Why would I be jealous?", Donghae was surprised with the question, moreover, of the tiny feelings starting to bubble up inside him again at the site of Kyuhyun and Hyukjae.

Yoona smirked, crossing her arms over her chest as she watched the very same scene Donghae's currently watching.

"I didn't say anything about jealousy. I was just asking if you're feeling a little strange. But if you like to put it that way, then.. it's also okay.", his sister uttered nonchalantly.

"W-Wait-- wh-what?! I'm not jealous!", he exclaimed, quite horrified on what the other's pointing out, or rather, on starting to believe that it might be the case.

Maybe.

But no.

That doesn't make sense.

"Why are you freaking out like that? And there's nothing wrong with being jealous, she's your girlfriend. Although.. it doesn't seemed like it at times. But now I'm more convinced that you are, because you won't be acting like that if there's nothing going on between the two of you.", the doe-eyed girl said, side-eyeing her brother and smiled to herself at the stunned expression that cross over his face. Donghae's wearing glasses, as always, but the way his eyes sparked, no. The way his eyes flamed in irritation at the sight of Kyuhyun getting too close with Hyukjae wasn't missed by instigator Yoong. She's not stupid. She do took notice of the fact that her brother and her supposed to be girlfriend acted more like childhood friends rather than sweet teenage lovers they claimed to be. She did doubt the real score between the two, but the way her brother's reacting now made her contemplate of the reality. Her brother was never an actor, she knew how much he hated school plays when they're younger, as he would never hesitate to volunteer for the part of the tree. So she knew there's something in there, up to what extent she doesn't know. But with the way Donghae grip his fist tightly, Yoona knew it's something strong.

Maybe. Could be.

"Are you just going to stand in there? Because to tell you the truth, I really do think Kyuhyun-ssi likes Hyukjae-unnie. And I'm saying this because I've got to be with them everyday. They're really close.", she said a matter of factly, no hint of trying to put Hyukjae down in her voice. On the contrary, it's her brother she wanted to brought down, so as to finally confirm the truth.

Donghae, on the other hand, though he had completely heard everything his sister said, couldn't explain what he feels, what to think, what to do, what to feel. So many questions clouding inside his brain that he doesn't even know what to entertain first. The scary part was, he couldn't even come up with an answer. He's the best when it comes to mathematical equations, biology, literacy, technical writing and even foreign language. heck, he even placed first in every exam three years in a row. Why can't he even supply a proper answer now?

Why did Hyukjae jumped on Kyuhyun? 

Why is Kyuhyun hugging Hyukjae?

Why is Hyukjae hugging him back?

Why are they so close?

Why do they look so happy?

Why are they so close?

Why is he feeling mad and betrayed over this?

Why are they so close?

Is Kyuhyun more important than Donghae now?

Then what about the tangerine? Didn't the tangerine meant Hyukjae likes Donghae more his study time with Donghae more? It even took him a good 15 minutes to stare at the round fruit before eating it up.

Yoona didn't even realized when did Donghae left her side. The next thing she knew, he's already steps away, joining the scene they're both watching earlier and forcefully pulled Kyuhyun away from Hyukjae. Donghae stood between them, facing the other guy as his eyes flamed with loathe.

 

"Aw! What's wrong with you?!", Kyuhyun asked the furious fish.   "What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you! Why are you hugging my girlfriend?!!"   ...   ( - . - )   ( > . < )   (>/////<)       ♪♫ "Every day I shock (shock! ), every night I shock (shock! ).." ♫♪       Perhaps the sound hauled everyone back to reality as they found Yang Yoseob, a Junior student fetched his phone from his pocket and answer it.   "Hello? Oh! Umma! Yeah, I'm on top 5! Well, what can I say I'm good like that-- oh wait.", he uttered, placing his palm over the mouth piece of his phone and stared back at the watching crowd. "Oh, don't mind me. Forget that I unwillingly interrupted anything,", he grinned before talking back to his mother.   And like how everyone had been distracted with the song, all eyes quickly flew to the main attraction before that B2ST song played for everyone to hear. In the middle of the crowd was a stunned Kyuhyun, a still furious Donghae and a surprised Hyukjae.   A minute later and the cause of the commotion, Donghae, might have cool down that it was just then he realized what happened, what he did and what his actions just meant. Face blushing furiously, he looked behind him and found an equally red Hyukjae, yet her eyes are probing what's the meaning of this. Donghae gulped. He suddenly thought, for the first time in his life, what an actual moron he is.   "I-I'm sorry. I didn't know Hyukjae-ssi has a boyfriend." It was Kyuhyun who was the first to speak. Donghae gazed at him, but Kyuhyun was avoiding his stare, instead he younger bowed his head a little and left the place, curious eyes tailing him behind.    Donghae groaned inwardly, feeling the discomfort all over his body as curious stares were once again pointed at him. But nothing could ever compare with the sudden nervousness he felt when he percieved a tug on his sleeve. He need not to turn to see who it was for he was very sure it's Hyukjae. Great. Just how will he ever explain what had he done. What was Hyukjae thinking now? And why was the earth still not breaking open to eat him up?   Aish.   Just how great it was.     ~   Donghae fidgeted on his place, glancing Hyukjae every now and then yet every time their eyes met, he would quickly averted his gaze. He knew he was so stupid for acting like that, blame his foolish impulse and the inability to stop himself. Yes. Donghae will blame everything, even the sunlight for shining so brightly that he has to see Kyuhyun hugging Hyukjae. He'll really blame everything, but not the fact that it was his and his stupid feelings' fault why he did that. Yes, he understood it as clear as the day.   He was jealous alright. He need not someone to slap that right into his face.   He was startled when Hyukjae stood up from the bench, walking towards Donghae while the other stepped backwards until he couldn't anymore when his back hit the wall. They were currently at one of the school's deserted corridors.   The brunette gulped as the redhead inched closer, scrutinizing his face but for Donghae it felt like as if she was burning holes on his whole being. Hyukjae crossed her arms over her chest, waiting for Donghae to say something and yet the other doesn't seem to talk about the matter.   "Ya!"   Donghae jumped a little upon the clamor. He slowly lifted his gaze to look at Hyukjae and found her staring at him intently. He briskly eyed upward, feeling too conscious with the pair of eyes that seems to judge his poor soul.   "What was that in the lobby earlier?"   "W-Well.."

"When was I your girlfriend?"

Donghae dared to gaze at her and for some reasons, the irritation marred on her beautiful face stings, it's as if she didn't like the idea that she's his girlfriend at all. Well, why whould she? She's a boy, and moreover, she hates Donghae.

"D-Don't get the wrong idea. I-I did that because.. b-because Yoona was asking questions! She was curious why you seemed to be too close to Kyuhyun when we've told mom that we are dating. It's more of an.. act. That was all it was.", he stated, his eyes anywhere but Hyukjae that he missed the disappointment that crossed the girl's face.

"So that's all for a show.."

"Yeah--" Donghae stopped when he got to take a look at the girl's sudden change of expression. "A-Are you saddened by what I just said or something..", he asked, feeling a little fluffy over the fact that Hyukjae seemed to be in dismay that he only did that out of the necessity to not blow their cover up. Could it be that Hyukjae feels even a little of what he feels?

But wait. Hold on. Since when he has these 'feelings'? And what were these 'feelings' anyway? Ahh, stupid boy and his stupid feelings.

"I wasn't!", Hyukjae exclaimed upon the implication of Donghae's words. "I-I.. I was just.."

"Just?"

Damn, why can't I think of any reason. It's not like I'm really affected that he just did that out of the need to do so. Argh. This stupid fish. "W-Well.. you see.. I'm looking out for my true love! And with what you said infront of everybody earlier, chances are my true love will be disheartened to go after me since I'm already taken!", she reasoned out, mentally tapping herself for being so clever.

"Oh." was all Donghae could say as he let his face fell, which wasn't left unnoticed by Hyukjae. He fixed his eyeglasses and scratch a non-existing itch on his nape, letting out a force chuckle as he found himself dumb again for thinking otherwise. Yeah, you stupid fish, why would you even think Hyukjae feels something. Whatever that something was.
