Everything

15 Minutes After Midnight

Victoria’s POV

“I’m coming with you.”

I stopped at the front porch of my parents’ house to look back at Nichkhun who was still rooted at the front gate. I couldn’t help but giggle at the deer-in-front-of-headlights look on his breathtakingly handsome face. I held out a hand and gestured for him to come in and I could see the anxious glitch in his doe eyes. What happened to Mr Confident before?

When Nichkhun said he was coming back home with me to have dinner with my parents, I quickly said no. I mean it was just too sudden and I wasn’t prepared to have my parents bombard me and him curious questions about our complicated relationship. My mind was nowhere near in a state for an official family meeting. But Nichkhun managed to persuade me saying how much he wanted to meet my parents. He sounded so cool and poised about the matter.

I laughed again when he squeezed my hand a little bit too tight as I unlocked the front door and pushed it open.

“Mom? Dad? I’m home.” I called as I pulled Nichkhun in, I could see the muscles in his arms stiffened. I gave him a quick peck on the cheek and smiled. “And there’s someone here I’d like you to meet.”

Nichkhun’s POV

Okay don’t freak out. Don’t freak out. Nichkhun Buck Horvejkul, I swear if you freak out right now—

“Qian sweetie?” My eyes widened and I audibly gulped as a woman suddenly emerged out from a room. Our eyes met and I could feel sweat forming at the back of my neck as the woman’s gaze held mine. “Oh my god!” The woman squealed and that gesture made her look 10 times younger. I could see where Victoria’s natural beauty came from; her mother was equally gorgeous with thick raven black hair and wide almond shaped eyes.

“What’s with the screaming?” I audibly gulped again when a man emerged out from the opposite room, his bushy greying brows pushed together as he took in my presence. His eyes scanned me from head to toe making myself feel self-conscious.

“Mom, dad, I’d like you to meet Nichkhun.” Victoria’s voice made me snapped out of my thoughts and I smiled at them.

“Nice to finally meet you.” , I wondered if they could hear the slight tremble in my voice.

I was always good with people. I wasn’t the type to get nervous when interacting with new individuals. I was friendly and sociable. I can easily hold up a conversation with any stranger with perfect ease. But tonight, I felt like I’m stripped leaving me only in my underwear. And the nerves gnawing on every fibre of my body wasn’t helping.

Mr and Mrs Song exchanged a long look with each other, making my stomach twists uncomfortably before looking back at me with an amused smile on their faces.

“Well it’s about time you introduced him to us Qian.” Mrs Song said, a wide grin on her face as she approached me and gave me a warm welcoming hug. I was caught in surprise when suddenly Mr Song came over and gave a tight bear-hug as well. I couldn’t help the smile creeping up on my face as my nerves quickly washed away.

“My daughter has talked wonders about you, son.” Mr Song said and I immediately knew that my ears were burning bright right now.

“Qian, I wished you’d called earlier and told me you were bringing Khun home.” I felt something fluttered in my chest when Mrs Song called me Khun, it felt nice.

“Sorry,” Victoria said sheepishly before she and Mrs Song went into the kitchen to sort out dinner while Mr Song literally dragged me into the living room to ‘get to know each other’ which I knew meant ‘interrogating the out of the guy who’s dating his daughter’.

“I couldn’t help but notice that your Chinese is pretty fluent.” Mr Song said the moment I sat on the couch opposite of him.

“I’ve been taking lessons for years. I can hold up a conversation really well now.” I said and he nodded, his eyes burning into mine. Mr Song gave out a nice air to him, he seems strict but I could tell that he was actually a warm person.

“So, you like badminton?” After that we were both engaged in an animated conversation about sports. I really like Mr Song, he made me feel comfortable like I was a part of his family. The thought made my stomach flutter.

“Okay boys, dinner’s ready.” Mrs Song called and Mr Song led me to the dining room. I took the time to admire the cosy house. There were picture frames lined on the walls and unique knick-knacks here and there. I smiled at a picture of Victoria when she was a kid, her front tooth was missing. She looked adorable.

There was another picture of a young Victoria sporting adorable bunny PJs. I chuckled but yelped when someone slapped my shoulder. I turned to see a glaring Victoria.

“Why are you laughing?” She muttered and I smiled, pinching her left cheek. “Ow! That hurts!”

“Aigoo, you’re too adorable.” I pinched both her cheeks and laughed when she punched me in the chest. Hard. I placed both my hands up in a surrender gesture. “Okay, okay. I’m sorry.” I laughed again and Victoria pouted her lips at me.

Mrs Song gave me a warm smile as I entered the dining room, she gestured for me to sit next to Mr Song. I couldn’t help but gaped at the dishes prepared on the round dining table. There was so much food? How did Mrs Song prepare so much with such little time?

“I know you think my daughter’s cooking is the best but it’s nothing compared to mine.” Mrs Song said proudly as she filled up my plate with the assortments of Chinese cuisine. Victoria giggled as she sat next to me.

“It’s true, my mom’s cooking is the best of the best.”

And oh my God it was. I couldn’t stop eating, I ate plate after plate after plate. The Songs were really entertained watching me eat with such gusto. I must say, dinner was amazing. Mr and Mrs Song tried their very best to make me feel welcomed. We got to know each other, shared some stories, laughed together…

But the best part of the night was just being by Victoria’s side. She was so carefree now that she’s in her own home. She wasn’t so poised and controlled like the professional artist she always is. She joked around a lot with her parents, she was more opened and talkative. It made my heart warm seeing how she’s so caring and loving with her family. I loved seeing this new side of her.

And I hoped to see much more in the future.

Hi guys. I’m sorry. I’m terribly sorry for abandoning this story like that. To be honest I was too preoccupied with university and then my love for Khuntoria simply faded. I haven’t been on here for a couple of years now but when I did, I saw all of your comments and some of you even DM-ed me—my heart swelled up at all the love and support I was receiving even though I left this project to collect dust.

I wrote this 2 years ago as a draft. This chapter was the last chapter I wrote for 15MAM and I feel like just sharing this. Originally there should be only 2 chapters left until the ending but I can’t will myself to write something I no longer have passion for.

I’m sorry I couldn’t finish what I’ve started, I hope you guys understand. I’m very happy that my work is appreciated by all of you. I am so very grateful. Thank you and goodbye friends

THE END.

Victoria’s POV

I breathed in the scene in front of me; my parents chatting animatedly and laughing with Nichkhun as he shares one of his witty anecdotes. It felt like we were one big happy family and the feeling of bliss just devoured me like a warm blanket. I laced my fingers with Nichkhun’s and he lazily drew circles on the back of my hand with his thumb. My heart was beating fast at the affectionate gesture. He was still immersed with the conversation with my parents as I stared at him.

God I love him, I thought, a smile blossoming on my face.

Nichkhun took a quick glance at me, his face bright with joy. He was so beautiful that my heart quickened even more if that’s possible.

After dinner, my parents suggested I took Nichkhun out and show him around—they must’ve wanted to give us some alone time (thank you!). My house was only a stone’s throw away from the beach, so we walked hand in hand. The sky was a beautiful deep blue with streaks of red, pink and orange across the horizon.

“You think your parents like me?” Nichkhun asked as we walked along the shore line.

“Are you kidding? They love you.” I laughed when he gave me his proud smirk. “They didn’t even give me any attention during dinner, you definitely won them over.” I linked my arm with his and leaned against his shoulder.

“Today has been nice.” He murmured against the top of my head.

We first met almost 10 years ago, back then the Nichkhun I knew was young, indecisive and naïve. But the Nichkhun in front of me now, he was a better version of himself. Despite having experienced some complicated memories with him in the past, I don’t regret anything because those incidents are what made him the wonderful man he is today. He has achieved so much not just in his personal life but also career wise. He worked hard to realise his dreams but also living fully without any doubts and negativities. And to be alongside him during that journey, I am deeply honoured and proud of him.

But my adoration quickly evaporated when Nichkhun suddenly kicked off his shoes and slung me over his shoulder.

“What the… yahhh!!!” I yelled as I slapped his back. He let out his deep laugh as he removed my shoes and started running into the ocean water. “Let me go Nichkhun the water is freezing!” I laughed when he started twirling me around. “Yah!”

Nichkhun finally let me down, his hands were still on my waist. We were knee deep into the glistening water.

    “Thank you.” Nichkhun suddenly said.

“For what?” I asked as I wrapped my arms around his waist, seeking warmth from the cool evening breeze. The sun was slowly setting, casting an angelic glow behind him. I couldn’t breathe as he locked his eyes deep into mine, so many indecipherable emotions were in them.

“For a lot of things.” He breathed as he pulled me closer into his embrace. “For coming into my life, putting up with me these past few years, making me happy…” He suddenly stopped and turned to look at me. “For everything.”

Nichkhun removed his hands from around me and the top of his dress shirt. I noticed there was a silver necklace around his neck.

“Victoria,” He unclipped the necklace and pulled it out from his shirt. There was a ring dangling from the chain.

    A very, very familiar ring.

“I love you so much.” He continued as he removed the ring from the chain and held it out in front of me, a nervous smile on his lips.

My eyes stung and I was pretty sure it wasn’t because of the salt water. My heart threatened to burst when Nichkhun took a step back and got on one knee.

    “Will you marry me?”
