Flowers (memories)
It (does)n’t happen - intermediate -
“Hyung?” Minho swung his bag from shopping for his mother at a nearby market, slowing his steps to a stop.
Jinki looked up from the bench he was sitting crouched in. His hands held a pretty bouquet for a pretty girl who stood him up. Not only did it hurt Jinki’s pride at almost seventeen, it hurt a lot more than he thought it should.
It . A lot.
Minho plopped down beside Jinki, expression questioning. “Why are you sitting here all alone with flowers? Your date late?” He leaned over, trying to find Jinki’s face that had fallen again.
Jinki sighed, forced a smiled and turned to his friend. “She’s not coming.” He tried to sound like it didn’t bother him as much as it did, shrugging shoulders and swishing the flowers around.
Minho scratched his head, voice falling in a whine of annoyance. “Well, you didn’t need her, huh?” He elbowed Jinki, “You’ll find someone better.”
Jinki smiled for real then, letting out a short laugh.
“Come to my house for dinner, hm? We can play video games or something.” Minho’s voice dropped to teasing, “I’ll go easy on you even, for your heart’s sake.”
Jinki shoved Minho back then, laughing louder in a muchly needed way. It was relieving.
Minho pulled Jinki too his feet, dragging him along with his free hand. “Let’s go.”
Once outside the gate to Minho’s home, Jinki stopped them, and with a small smile handed the pretty flowers to Minho.
“You want me to hold these for you?” Minho asked, eyes falling on all the fluff of the bouquet.
“I want you to have them instead.” Jinki looked up at his younger friend, mind once again scoffing at their height difference still growing. At least Jinki seemed to have more ‘skin on his bones’, and secretly hoped that would attract more ladies. He nodded, “Really.”
Minho looked back, “But.. uh..”
Jinki smiled bigger, head tilting and Minho just said, “Okay.”
Jinki helped Minho with the gate and front door into his home. When Minho’s mother saw the flowers, Jinki watched as his friend passed them off to her, saying “They’re for you~.” It seemed fitting a mother should get them instead, really. It upset Jinki a little though, because he had liked the idea, as odd as it was, giving those flowers to Minho- he liked it a lot and he didn't know why he liked it.
