Equation⁸

Key's P.O.V

"Did you hear?" Key sharpened his ear, as he was trying to hear the whispers coming from the group sitting behind him and his friends, who was sitting on the floor waiting for their turn to perform.

Rumors spread like fire on campus, and Key couldn't help but be a bit curious.

"Jonghyun will might get kicked out, if he doesn't improve his math," one of the girls whispered in a hurry as one of the teachers passed by to see, how everyone was progressing.

"Wait, what?" Another girl said out loud surprised by the sudden news. The teacher sent all of them a glare, before he continued on to the next group.

"It's true!" The same girl from before confirmed, as she leaned closer in to the others, "I heard, he has some family issues..."

Taemin, who also had overheard the conversation, sent Key a worried look. "Hyung, what should we do?"

"Nothing," Key replied coldly trying to remain calm. There was nothing they could do right there, and they had to pass their test.

"But Hyung..." Taemin tried again, as he was really worried about Jonghyun. He hadn't known this boy for very long, but everyone knew how much he loved music, so it would be horrible to watch him lose something that important to him.

As Key didn't seem like he would answer any time soon, Woohyun decided to interrupt: "It's true what Key's says Taemin. You can't do anything about it right now. It has to wait. We also have to pass this test."

Not afraid of showing his dissatisfaction about the whole thing, Taemin sighed loudly and ran a hand through his hair, but he knew they were right. And after observing Key for a bit, Taemin realized, that Key also was worried about Jonghyun.

They all shook the feeling of anxiety of them, as it soon would be there turn to perform and show everyone, what they got. A lot of pressure was put on Key and Woohyun, as they were some of the best in their department, but both of them seemed quite relaxed, as it was their element.

Key closed his eyes as the music were about to start. He took some deep breaths cleared his mind, so nothing would come in the way of his test. He opened his eyes as soon as the music started and performed the better than his best  - he expected nothing less from himself.

"Did you hear..." Key passed by Minho before he got a chance to finish his sentence, but he knew that Taemin would answer his question anyways.

"Where is he?" Key asked Onew, as he opened the door to his hyung's room without knocking first.

"I don't know," Onew shrugged, as he hadn't seen Jonghyun, since he had left him in the music room earlier that day.

Without a word Key left his hyung's room once again. It wasn't like he tried to leave a good impression anyways. But he couldn't help but feel a bit pissed. Why hadn't Jonghyun just told him, why he needed his help? Was this a game to him?

Angrily Key stomped to his room and slammed the door upon entering. He wasn't going to care. It wasn't his problem to begin with.

Minutes followed by hours passed by as Key stared at the same equation without realizing. He was listening for any sound to tell him the news of Jonghyun's late arrival. It had gotten dark outside and the clocks noise kept reminding Key, that it was getting late.

"Where is he?" Key mumbled quietly to himself just as he heard the sound of the front door opening loudly, as if it had no cares in the world - or at least had forgotten that the students in the very small dorm had long ago went to sleep.

Closing his book Key stood up and walked out of his room to go and greet the now drunk Jonghyun. He stood fast frozen to the ground, as he watched Jonghyun waltz into the room - hardly being able to stand up.

"Oh hi Key," Jonghyun waved happily to Key, as he tried to take of his shoes without falling, which was a really hard task for him to do.

"Did you drink?" Key asked even though it made him sound dumb, but he found it hard to believe, that Jonghyun would go drink over a little setback. But of course - they hadn't known each other for that long yet.

"Nooooooo," a giggling Jonghyun replied, as he was about to fall over, but Key quickly grabbed him by his collar, so he kept his balance, "why would I drink?"

Key frowned, as he tried to understand Jonghyun's blurred words, "I've heard what happened."

"You must be happy then," Jonghyun suddenly sounded pretty sober, but his eyes told Key otherwise, "since you just want me to leave."

"How did you get that idea?" Key said angrily - he couldn't help it - Jonghyun just had the effect on him, "you could just have told me the truth from the beginning!"

"Like that would have helped!" Their voices was getting louder for each word they were speaking.

"How cold do you think, I am?" Key hissed at him. Of course he didn't want to help just anyone - not if it meant that someone would waste his time, but he wouldn't be the reason why someone lost their dream.

"Do I have to answer that?" the drunk Jonghyun was back, as he grinned at Key while patting his shoulder in a teasing way.

"Fine," Key turned around on his heel with not the slightest intention of ever caring about Jonghyun ever again.

A loud thump could be heard behind Key, as Jonghyun fell to the ground. "Please help me," he sounded so helpless, as he begged Key for help. It meant his dream. He would do anything to keep it. Even if it meant giving up on his pride.

Letting go of a loud sigh, Key finally agreed: "Okay." Not even once did he turn around, as he left for his room, but he couldn't overhear Jonghyuns loud sigh of relief.
