HOLY MOTHER OF SNAP

Once In A Lifetime

While 2NE1’s Go Away blasted through the stadium, Paije, Kendrick and I rocked out in the first section in our seats. Rachel and Egan sat one row in front of us talking excitedly about what we were about to see. I saw Aaliya almost walk by us but I called her over.

“I’m so glad I found you!” I squealed as she pushed past a few people to stand in the aisle. “Where are you sitting?”

“I got tickets to go to the floor” she whined before turning around to look at the people sitting next to us. “Hey! Would you mind trading?”

The two people next to me and Kendrick looked at each other and shrugged before getting up to swap tickets. Aaliya thanked them before scooting over to sit next to us with Aania following. When they were settled they smiled to each other in satisfaction. We resumed dancing and talking to each other as different artists from YG played through the speakers; the smooth transition from Gummy to Se7en was flawless and we began jamming out to Drips.

“I just love this song!” Kendrick and I said at the same time before looking at each other laughing.

I stood up and began singing, jumping in place trying to get pumped up even more for this concert. I got a few weird stares before a few others started joining. We all began shouting the chorus causing us to get attention from the other seating sections, but the song ended before another section could join in. Then all of a sudden Whiz Khalifa’s Black & Yellow Instrumental began playing and my face froze. Paije looked at me with laughter spreading across her face.

“He…wouldn’t” I hedged.

“I hope he does” she laughed harder.

“Ayo! This is a shout out to my girl Dev and V.I.P’s everywhere!” The audio of Teddy Park said in the intro.

“No! No! No! No!” My eyes grew bigger. I begged that he wouldn’t put my wimpy voice on the speakers…I would die from embarrassment.

“ Put ya hands up…uh…uh! Uh! Let’s Go!” T.O.P’s deep voice pounded through the bass; causing me and a bunch of other people to scream.

“UH-Huh you know what it is…every single album and music vid…uh screamin that’s nothing see our boys put it down…that’s stuntin’ ya’ll shut it down on the web every comeback ya’ll in BLACK AND YELLOW BLACK AND YELLOW BLACK AND YELLOW look in the crowd of V.I.P’s all you see is just that-”

There sound blasted across the amps causing me and the crowd to go wild. Those of us who knew the song began singing along dancing in the aisles of our seats. Teddy Park sang the first verse and it had us going crazy! His flow was just…flawless! I was jumping up and down with each word.

“I’ve never heard this song before!” Aaliya yelled dancing to the beat. “Who’s singing it?”

“Teddy Park!!!” I screamed happily.

T.O.P began the second verse and I felt my body get the familiar ripple of chills every time I heard him. I couldn’t help but admire the way his swag radiated across the speakers to the audience. You could hear T.O.P’s passion and intensity fall on the sea of V.I.P’s in the arena. And a sudden rush of pride at the fact that he was my bias washed over me. Paije was practically having a conniption at the sheer thought that we gave them the idea to do this. This had to be the most amazing cover I had ever heard.  The third verse began and I felt my smile disappear as I realized who’s puny voice changed up the sound.

“Please tell me that’s CL on helium” I cried to Paije.

Instead of giving me an answer Paije sat down and rolled in laughter. She was hollering with  amusement as I stared open mouthed in  humiliation. How could Teddy Park do this to me?! Playing my voice to thousands, making me sound nothing less than pathetic compared to him and T.O.P. I stopped dancing and sat down covering my head in shame.

“Come on” Paije laughed. “It’s not that bad…for auto-tune!”

“It’s not auto tuned!” I smacked her as she leaned into me still laughing. “This wasn’t supposed to be recording…did you-”

“He told me not to say anything” she said innocently. “But never in a million years did I expect him to play it, especially in front of a crowd. I thought it was just for laughs.”

I looked at her baffled. But she couldn’t see it because just then the stadium went pitch black and the music cut off. All off a sudden a rupture of rolling screams was heard throughout the arena as  an five part harmony of TONIGHT began. Even in the darkness I was shaking my head searching for Paije even though we were both clutching each other for dear life. A single spotlight flashed onto the stage showing Seungri posing before a swell of light illuminated the showground.

“HERE WE GO!!!” G-Dragon shouted into the microphone.

I leaped out of my seat bringing Paije with me. They began singing and the volume across the speakers began to increase along with the noise level of the audience. I began screaming like a madwoman…and I was crazy. BIGBANG was performing right in front of me. I didn’t have to look for an HQ quality fan-cam or buy the DVD in order to watch the absolute amazingness that was happening. I WAS HERE!!!! This was like the HD of my life, let alone my fandom. They whipped across the stage going to the different corners, giving the floor fans attention before shouting and posing to the back row. There were only two options to being an audience member at this event. Either you were screaming, or you were singing! Except for the dozen or so people in our section who were too awestruck to do or say anything. When the song ended the entire arena went dead. Daesung shouted something in Korean and Paije went wild.

“What did he say?” Kendrick asked her curiously.

“I…don’t…know” Paije answered wide eyed and dumbly smiling.

Café began playing and T.O.P was running to the different parts of the stage getting all of us to clap on beat. In no time at all the stadium felt and sounded like one collective heartbeat except for the few roars and chants that became muffled by the noise.

“I remember when you walk through that door…sat down in that chair…good times we share-”

I completely lost it. I squealed at least two octaves above my usual pitch. I felt my heart clench inside my ribcage and all of the blood in my bloodstream did a backwards flow heading for my brain. I sat down trying to steady myself but when T.O.P came to the first section and knelt down on the stage he rapped directly to the fans on the floor in front of him..I found it and then lost it again!

“You don’t need me anymore-” Daesung began but then he was cut off by Rachel’s constant “Oppars”.

Paije completely forgot me and began reaching out towards him opening and closing her fingers repeatedly. T.O.P’s rap had me captivated once more. His enthusiasm found me and singled me out and I let out a fierce high pitched scream. Taeyang visited our section with his part and Egan began chanting his name shouting his part along with the music. Taeyang danced in front of us before ending the song before beginning the intro to With U with the other members joining in. He left our section to go to another before joining the other members in the middle to do the dance. We were hollering and I found myself having to sit down again with an overload of excitement. My head was beginning to pound with the base and I knew that I was going to pass out or DIE if I didn’t find someway to calm myself down. Thank God they only did a small bit of that song before the boys were disappearing in different parts of the stage for their transitions. With their disappearance I finally noticed five giant screens plastered in different sections of the stadium each one was now showing the exact same thing. I took this small break to steady my breathing. A giant picture of Papa YG’s face appeared in front of a black background and started speaking in Korean.

“Devon, you okay?” Kendrick sat down next to me seeing my hands covering my face.

I nodded not answering still trying to slow my breathing. Just as I was starting to feel the blood leave my brain the intro to Taeyang’s I’ll Be There started blasting through the speakers. Egan leaped out of his seat and began screaming at the top of his lungs before dancing and jumping up and down in utter euphoria. Other dancers began appearing in different parts of the stage dancing to their spots to begin the songs main choreography.

“Stop!” He screamed into his body microphone interrupting the music.

He breathed heavily into the mic and with each puff of air he exhaled, I could hear the massive amounts of ovaries exploding into the air. He stood still for about a minute before erupting into this complicated dance of Where U At. Egan sat down rapidly whipping his head in circles at the sight; he was amazed and clearly unashamed at how much of a fan-boy he really was. I looked at one of the large screens just in time to see Taeyang do a pelvic roll towards the upper section of the stadium. I knew that after seeing the massive screen in front of me, no Apple iMac computer screen could compare with this.

“Hold up!” Taeyang said stopping the song in mid-melody. “I need a girl!”

A pretty girl in a cute yellow dress and heels stepped onto the stage with her own spotlight. She flipped her hair before sauntering seductively across the stage pass Taeyang. The chorus of I Need A Girl  started as the biggest smirk spread across his face and he rubbed his hands together checking her out. I smiled at his attention seeking dance moves as the girl on stage flirtatiously played hard to get. Each time she rebuffed him he did something trying to get her attention until he did a back flip and she looked impressed. Then all of a sudden G-Dragon was rising from the floor just in time to rap his part in the song. He ran up and down the stage allowing the audience to revel in his awesomeness; and it was glorious! Then out of nowhere G-Dragon grabbed Taeyang’s girl by the waist leading her away from him before giving all of us one last signature GD smirk as Wedding Dress played as they both walked off of the stage. The crowd roared as Taeyang dropped to his knees with the most pain-struck face I had ever seen. His dancers took over the choreography as he painfully sang to the audience; it had to be the one of the most heartbreaking covers of this song I had ever seen. Wedding scenes from the music video played across the two of the five screens while the other three showed different angles of the performance. He posed and the stage out.

Seungri’s voice boomed across the stadium in an acapella rendition of What Else Can I Do. Aaliya began screaming and flailing making violent motions towards the stage. I was happy to see him up there in all of his mind-blowing talent but I automatically realized with the slowing of my heart rate, that Seungri was going to be my breathing act. I prayed he was going to take a long time to go through his set because I needed time to slow my hyperventilating and heart rate. I felt like I was going to explode! With a quick snap of his fingers White Love started activating the addition of more dancers. They spun and flipped and I found myself grinning at the fact that I was going to be working with this wonderfully charismatic person. His playful side showed throughout his entire performance, making his dark panda eyes even more noticeable across the five large screens.

“Seungri!!!” One of the Kwon Twins interrupted poking their heads out of one side of the stage.

Seungri stopped to look at them before becoming annoyed. He began yelling at them in Japanese before shrugging his shoulders walking off of the stage on the other side. All V.I.P’s in the audience looked at them with confusion. I swear some  of us might’ve started booing if they had not been from YG Family, but How Gee began playing and they started dancing. Then out of nowhere there was screaming to the side of the stage and T.O.P in all of his incredibly wonderful perfection came out and began rapping! I legit felt all of the blood from my limbs drain into my brain overwhelming my ability to think. I swear I could feel myself starting to foam or drool at the mouth and it got even worst when GD jumped out and began rapping as well. Kendrick next to me began hollering and rapping along with GD & T.O.P not missing a beat, and when he turned to look at me we mirrored each others seventh heaven. Then they disappeared and I felt myself want to well up and cry at what I had just witnessed. Kendrick and I sat down completely flustered shaking our heads in disbelief. Thank God for us the stage went black again and the screens turned into the familiar white backgrounds advertising for YG.

I was shaking, my entire body was shaking and I tried to stop but all I could do was focus the surplus amount of energy into my shaking knees. Paije looked at me with pure awe! She was breathing really heavy and really fast burying her face in her hands to keep from losing it.

“This is incredible” Kendrick said in wonder.  “Look! I’ve got goose-bumps!”

“I don’t know how much more of this I can take!!!” I breathed out heavily.

“I swear!” Egan said completely hoarse. “Someone should’ve given us paper bags to help us breathe or something”.

“Or a muzzle to keep you quiet mate” Kendrick said playfully pushing Egan.

“Yeah?” He grunted. “We’ll just see how much of a girl you really are when GD does his solo.”

“By the way!” I remembered. “If Daesung does Baby Don’t Cry, shout his name instead of baby..okay?”

Always by BIGBANG started and the light rippled to reflect all of them onstage once again. An epic mass of sound erupted once again from the audience and the five screens illustrated each of the members. T.O.P’s screen was the furthest away from me, but it still claimed my attention. He was smoldering at the audience, and even though he was looking at thousands…when he cocked his left eyebrow I felt my skin burn with heat. Every time I watched anything he did, it was like he singled me out…no matter how many people were watching or how many times I had seen it. To me…it was new and personal every single time. He hypnotized me just by being his wonderful self…which is how I knew that there was absolutely…positively no way I could ever change him as my ultimate bias. He smiled and nodded allowing the other members to disappear as he began singing Turn It Up. Surprisingly I didn’t lose it; I knew that in order to see the rest of this concert I had to live. So I kept my breathing steady and danced to the song instead. I didn’t mess up any of the words no matter how fast he rapped them! This song would always hold a special place in my fandom. It wasn’t my absolute favorite but it was the one that made me see T.O.P in a different light. I had seen BIGBANG music videos before but he never singled out when I watched them. But when I saw Turn It Up? He looked at me through the screen…and I knew that I was hooked. I could tell who was a T.O.P bias just by looking at the audience. Just about every T.O.P wearing fan was doing the flying bird dance at the same time he was. He smiled before walking off stage and I chanted his name the loudest in our section for him. Daesung walked out in his signature glittery purple suit dragging his feet before falling to the ground.

“GI SOON!!!!” Daesung yelled in agony.

“NO…MY NAME IS PAIJE!!!!” Paije yelled at him laughing before screaming her head off.

Gi Soon began and his bright smile appeared and I felt myself grinning at his face. Daesung was smiling so much he looked painfully happy. When it got to the much awaited chorus, every V.I.P began doing the hand motions. No one felt like an idiot with thousands of others making the same movements. Kendrick turned to me and began inching closer with each gesture and it had me laughing harder than ever because he was crossing his eyes trying to make me laugh. Paije kept shouting the lyrics at Daesung replacing his name with Gi Soon. Then just like in the fan cams of this performance the music changed to Taeyang’s Look Only At Me. Daesung did a y hip before dropping to the stage floor right in front of us. He bit his lip before brooding to our section. Rachel and Paije let out two high pitched screams in perfect harmony. He smirked before rising up to finish the song backing away from the first section. I felt myself become giddy and even though he was no where close to being my bias…I couldn’t help but noticed how good looking he looked up there rocking the stage. I hollered grinning from ear to ear as he jogged off stage. G-Dragon strolled onto the stage straight-faced and serious.

“He’s got to be getting ready to sing-” Kendrick said leaning to me but he was cut off by the intro to She’s Gone by G-Dragon featuring Kush.

I was expecting Kendrick to react…what I wasn’t expecting was for him to out fan-boy Egan. Just about everyone in our section took turns to stare at his behavior in disbelief. The cool, calm and collected Kendrick we had become accustomed too was nowhere to be found. Instead a complete fan boy took his place. He rapped a few words of the lyrics before loosing complete control yelling at the top of his lungs. He kept screaming G-Dragon’s name and jumping up and down grabbing and scrunching his face in excitement. Kendrick did everything except take off his underwear and throw it on stage. G-Dragon spun around into a pose and began singing Hello. Kendrick calmed down a little bit and focused most of his fanning to dancing instead, but every now and then he would build up and explode. I looked at him laughing, the biggest smile playing across my face. And when he looked at me he stopped and smirked before continuing to enjoy GD’s flawless performance.

GD stopped singing giving the audience a serious stare.

“His stage his show…his moves his flow” GD screamed as the familiar trumpet intro began.

My heart leapt out of my chest at the realization of the next song.

“Show’em what you got bro!”

Strong Baby began just in time for Seungri to start singing the first verse. I watched in amazement as his choreography was executed. The spot light was his and I was enthralled at his movements. He was smooth and the movements seemed to pour from his core. He was brilliant and each panda smirk he gave the crowd sent me and Aaliya in a fit of giggles. GD’s part had me pumped up even more, and I felt myself scream out every time he said “baby” in the lyric. His mouth played with the word flirtatiously and I sort of wished one of the large screens would get stuck on that word, replaying it over and over. The song ended with the two of them standing on stage back to back posing. Eventually I noticed T.O.P popping up onto the stage with the cutest look on his face. He looked bright eyed and innocent before adjusting his jacket to the crowd. He walked over to the third section, bent down and began rapping the first part of NUMBER 1. We all went wild as different parts of the video and lyrics danced across the five screens. Taeyang and Daesung jumped onstage just in time to sing the bridge of the song. T.O.P had us jumping up and down with each word and G-Dragon was slaying different reproductive organs mercilessly. T.O.P motioned to the balcony pointing to himself every time he said “I’m your number one”, and I swear I could hear a thousand voices swoon at the same time.

“I’M YOUR NUMBER ONE” They sang together as five individually placed fireworks shot off the stage.

We exploded in sound, cheering and screaming like we were on fire. Another dull YG advertisement appeared across all five of the giant screens.

“I…can’t…function” I said sitting down trying to fathom what I was witnessing.

I rubbed my face finally realizing that it had gone numb from smiling too much. I looked to Paije and saw how her face mimicked mine. She looked at me trying to speak, but it was official…she was speechless. Only the beginnings of letters could be made out…nothing else was coherent. Several people in front of us began messaging their faces too so I didn’t feel stupid in doing it. Rachel had buried herself in her shirt while Egan was closing his eyes counting silently. Kendrick sat happily next to me focusing all of his energy to his ever bouncing knee. Aaliya and Aania were in there own world speaking rapidly in a language I had no hope of understanding. My mind had been officially blown away! The only thing keeping the microscopic bit of my brain, that could actually still function, were the YG advertisements. Even then I felt myself become excited as BIGBANG’s giant faces smiled at me and thousands of others.

T.O.P’s voice began the intro to Love Song and I began screaming like a madwoman in an insane asylum. I completely lost it. I couldn’t stop myself! I had to keep screaming. I don’t know why I had to keep yelling and jumping up and down, but for some reason I had to try and show how excited and overjoyed I was. As if that we’re physically possible!!! Forget singing along…forget dancing…I had to sit. The small headache that I thought I could ignore began competing with the bass of the music. I put my head in between my knees and took deep breaths. My heart was accelerating! Each beat was becoming faster and faster with each lyric delivered by him and the other members. I could not function! It was only by the grace of God that I didn’t fall over and die. And just like that the song was over, and I found it easier to breathe.

When I finally looked up, I saw Taeyang grab a stool and position it in the direct middle of the stage. Take It Slow began playing and I thanked God and him for slowing down the fast pace. I relaxed trying to calm myself down, resisting every urge in my body to scream. The whole arena quieted down and became accustomed to the chill feel he was trying to emit. Taeyang was calming the wild beast within, and I was eternally grateful. Except for a few screams we were mostly quiet as he sang to us, eventually getting us to wave our hands in the same direction. It was very calming and I welcomed the ease of the song; I needed something to bring me down. The song transitioned to another slow jam…You’re My from the same album. I smiled to myself thinking of that night in the club when we sang this together. I felt my heart rate slow down for the first time that night. I allowed my ears to drown in the beautiful falsetto he put forth. Unlike the audio, it wasn’t forced but light and I relaxed in the feel. We cheered as he walked off of the stage and Butterfly by GD began. I was so thankful for them slowing the concert down. The change in pace made it seem like they weren’t out to kill as many people as they could. T.O.P was worried about me not passing out…but I wonder how many others here in this crowd were out cold. Kendrick sat back down and knocked his knee into me. I looked at him suspiciously before ignoring him to glance back at GD. He knocked into me again smirking.

“What’s you're problem?”

“Knee spasm” he lied easily.

There clearly was no spazzing; the smirk on his face told me it was totally intentional.

“Yeah, I’m sure” I said turning my head to face the stage again.

He laughed continuing to watch me before returning his attention back to the stage. GD bowed before jogging lightly off stage as the bubbly ripples began signaling the intro for Baby Don’t Cry. Paije automatically began tearing up at the sight as I stood up. Daesung walked to the middle and began singing as the audience rocked side to side like a rolling sea. I latched onto Paije’s arm and she broke into a weepy smile before holding onto me tighter. When we got to the chorus only a few sections out of the eight sang “DAESUNG DON’T CRY” like the plan. The first few times it was obvious that he didn’t hear it; the shouts were too muffled in order to reach the stage. But enough surrounding people heard it, eventually gaining more voices with each “DAESUNG DON’T CRY.” Daesung sang the second verse unscathed, continuing with the words. This time the sections were determined for him to hear us, so during the second verse we were quiet, counting the beats until we could scream the words collectively. The first three “DAESUNG”’s  took him totally by surprised, he fumbled on the words. He looked at the crowd not fully understanding what was going on, but by the next round of “DAESUNG”’s he choked on the words in realization what we were trying to do. All five giant screens zoomed in on his face and when he got to the bridge he literally sang his heart out.

“Just give me your smile.”

He sang the last part of the chorus teary eyed and choking on sound. The last round of “DAESUNG”’s he almost stopped singing but it was totally fine because the audience took over. And when we got to the ending, he let us finish it not singing anything.

“DAESUNG DON’T CRY…DAESUNG DON’T CRY…DAESUNG DON’T CRY!!!” We shouted at him before applauding and cheering.

“Saranghae” he said smiling with complete watery eyes.

He walked off stage still wiping his eyes. I turned to look at Paije who was absolutely bawling her eyes out, but somehow still cheering.

“That had to be the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen!!!” She sobbed. “Gorgeous…simply gorgeous!”

T.O.P began walking on stage singing Of All Days and I felt my brain meet my pancreas and my liver meet my throat for the first time in my life. I raised both of my arms in the air and swayed from side to side dancing to one of the most beautiful songs I had ever heard. T.O.P walked over to the first section and sang to us, but the way he brooded into the audience…it seemed like it was for me. I pretended that he was searching to sing this song only for me. The familiar chills and rollercoaster stomach rides didn’t come. Instead, this song made me feel like I was falling. Constantly falling with no impact underneath. Nothing but air above or below, and I suddenly knew how it felt to be a bubble. The passion in this song oozed from his being, it took over and hypnotized me in my seat. I closed my eyes, pretending that these words were just  for me.
