Yoon-eun's car was behind Himchan's as they drove their way from the head office in Seoul to Busan.
On the way, Yong Guk kept stealing glances at Yoon-eun. He wanted to tell her the truth but he did not know how to do so. He was afraid of her reactions. Although they didn't date each other for long but he knew her temper. Yoon-eun might seem nice and all but when she's angry there's no way you can pacify her within days.
“What are you looking at?” Yoon-eun asked after she realized that Yong Guk seemed to be looking at her.
“Erm… I… I…” Yong Guk stammered.
Yoon-eun noticed Yong Guk wasn’t himself so after she stopped the car at the red light; she turned around and looked at him.
“Mr. Bang, are you alright?”
“Yup, I suppose,” Yong Guk replied softly.
The lights changed green and Yoon-eun stepped on the accelerator pedal. Yong Guk became quiet again.
“Mr. Bang, you said you have something to discuss with me am I right?” Yoon-eun asked, hoping that it would help to minimize the uncomfortable silence in the car.
“Y… Yes…” Yong Guk’s voice got softer again.
Yong Guk cleared his throat and spoke again, “I am just curious what Jae Hwan’s father occupation is? I heard that he was always overseas.”
Yoon-eun was slightly shocked that Yong Guk asked about Jae Hwan’s father but she still replied his question, “He’s a photographer so he spends most of his time out of the country.”
Yong Guk took a few deep breaths and closed his eyes. Finally he spoke, “Jae Hwan’s father is not in overseas, and in fact he’s here right now.”
Yoon-eun slammed the brake and looked at him, “What are you talking about?!”
Luckily their car was already near the countryside so there wasn’t much cars, if not the sudden stop was sure to cause an accident.
Yong Guk faced Yoon-eun and said, “Sorry, babe. I shouldn’t have left you and Jae Hwan all alone in France.”
He tried to hold Yoon-eun’s hands but she pulled her hands away.
“I… I don’t know what you are talking about. My husband is overseas for work,” Yoon-eun said while looking out of the window.
“Yoon-eun, I know I hurt you a lot but it was unintentional. I….” before Yong Guk could finish Yoon-eun stopped him.
“Can we stop this topic? I don’t want to continue any further.”
“No, I have to settle this now,” this time Yong Guk was firm. He didn’t want to continue dragging the problem further.
“Stop!” Yoon-eun covered her ears and screamed.
Yong Guk unbuckled his seatbelt and pulled down Yoon-eun’s hands. He held onto them tight and turned Yoon-eun around to face him.
“It’s time to solve the problem, I have avoided it long enough,” Yong Guk said.
Yoon-eun looked at him with tears threatening to fall out of her eyes.
“My dad needed an operation and they needed me to sign on the consent form so I had to go back,” Yong Guk explained.
Yoon-eun kept quiet. She still doesn’t know if she wanted to believe that the Yong Guk sitting in front was her husband.
“After that I had to help my dad with the company’s business because his condition wasn’t really good. I got busy after that and never had the time to call you. I know I’m at fault for not trying to contact you but I did try to get a private investigator to search for your whereabouts. However, he couldn’t find any,” Yong Guk continued.
“When my dad asked me to come over to Seoul to help develop the business here and I saw your name in the staff list I was very happy. Without second thoughts I accepted it and started wondering what will happen when we meet. I sort of expected that you wouldn’t recognize me since I never really told you my true identity.”
“Please, Yoon-eun, give me a chance to make up to you as well as Jae Hwan,” Yong Guk pleaded.
“How… How do I know that you are him?” Yoon-eun asked softly.
Yong Guk sighed, “We knew each other in France, and we met each other at the Le River Café. The first time we met we chatted for an hour. For our first date, you wore a white long-sleeved shirt with a black vest, a three-quarters pants and a pair of white sneakers. You bought along a grey sweater as well. I wore a green shirt with a brown-stripped tie with jeans as well as white sneakers. You even commented that our fashion taste is rather similar."
Yoon-eun bent down and shook her head, she still don’t want to face the problem. There were many times where she wished that Yong Guk would be the one who left her and Jae Hwan behind but now after hearing him saying it out she don’t want to believe it.
She once thought what she will do if Yong Guk really came back into hers and Jae Hwan’s life. However, now that she said the truth out of Yong Guk’s mouth she doesn’t know what to do.
“Can we discuss this after the project problems are settled? I just want to concentrate on work now,” Yoon-eun said while trying to hold back her emotions. She was stuck in a dilemma and she just wanted to put her personal issues on hold.
Yong Guk let go of Yoon-eun’s hands and buckled on his seatbelt.
“Ok but once this whole project is over I’m going to settle the problem between us and don’t expect me to give up so easily again. You need me to help you drive the car?” Yong Guk said and asked as he saw that Yoon-eun still seemed to be controlling her emotions.
“Do you mind?” Yoon-eun asked. She really need some time to clear her thoughts.
Yong Guk got out of the car and swopped sides with Yoon-eun.
Throughout the drive to Busan, neither of them spoke a single word.
