Fifty Four
Stranger No More
Donghae’s POV
Hyukjae held me tight as we slept that night.
His heart still pounding hard and fast from what he had seen earlier. He had also remained silent all the way till we got back to our room.
Once inside he quickly pulled me close and hugged me tight. Murmuring words of love to me as he held me.
I had to wait for what seemed like hours before I could be absolutely sure that my lover had fallen asleep.
Carefully removing myself from his hold over me, I grabbed his mobile phone as well as my own and crept out of our room quietly.
Once in the hallways I moved towards a remote corner near the windows and looked around me.
After making sure that nobody was in sight. I lifted Hyukjae's phone and keyed in his password to unlock the phone.
This was my chance to act.
Based on what I could see today, Hangeng was in a bad shape, and it scared me so much. I understood Hyukjae now. Why was he hiding the truth from Heechul.
But Heechul needed to know. He might not deserve to, but he had a right to know about his own lover.
And through this, maybe, maybe I could finally have a shot in saving all of us by letting Heechul know about Hangeng…. That is, if things went well….
Because Heechul might not be as heartless as they had thought. Recalling the contents of the DVD, he never meant to kill me, despite thinking that Hangeng had died.
Going through Hyukjae’s phone list I managed to find several missed calls from a particular number.
Inhaling deeply and before i could chicken out i pressed on 'dial' and the call was connected.
After just the second ring an urgent voice started, 'You finally called.'
Swallowing drying, I managed to get my nervous voice out from my voice, trying to speak as softly as possible.
'H-hey... I-I'm not Hyukjae...' I began. Eyes darting around just to make sure nobody was walking about.
There was a very brief silence on the other end before he spoke again.
'You are Donghae.'
'Yes.'
'Why are you calling me?'
'To tell you about Hangeng.'
I heard his controlled breathing at the other end and figured that this was exactly what he had been waiting to hear but at the same time, was afraid to hear.
'T-tell me... Is... is he really alive?' He breathed.
'Yes Heechul. He is alive.' But not well. Not at all.
'I want to see him. Name your terms.'
'Never harm any one of us ever again.' I said firmly. This was my chance. The chance that I had been seeking.
'As long as I am sure that Hangeng is well.'
Hyukjae's words echoed in my mind again. This was not good. Hangeng's condition... He might as well be considered dead until he could wake up.
'Heechul... I can only tell you that Hangeng is alive. But... But well or not, I'm afraid that is up for you to decide.'
'How is he!'
'He's hasn't woken up yet.'
Silence
'Bring me to him. Bring me to him damn it!'
'Only if you gave your word to never harm any one of us again.'
'I said bring me to him you idiot! Stop repeating what you had said earlier.'
I disconnected the call. And waited.
And waited...
And it came.
Hyukjae's phone started vibrating furiously again and i answered it quietly.
'Just bring me to him. And yes... I promised. I ing promised all right!' Heechul said.
'Disguise yourself well tomorrow morning. I need to think of how to sneak you in.'
I heaved a sigh.
That went unexpectedly... well? I guess it could be worst.
Either way, I knew I just did something quite reckless.
I sighed deeply, this time I took out my own mobile phone and made another call.
‘Hae.’ The voice called out softly.
‘Tomorrow. They are going to meet.’ I said quickly. Informing the other party the time and my plan in a rush. As well as the place that Hangeng was staying in, the place that I would heading to tomorrow.
The caller sighed out loud, knowing this was something that had to be done.
‘Please… Please be careful. I’ll be watching.’
‘I will.’
For Hyukjae. For everyone else. I will.
