Donghae’s POV

He was talking.

And then he was sobbing.

After that he was yelling.

Later there were the sounds of sobbing again.

In my world of darkness where I could do nothing, I constantly felt the presence of another with me.

It was soothing. It made me felt less afraid.

I wanted to open my eyes to look at who it was that had been talking to me but I couldn’t.

When I heard his cries I had wanted to reach out to wipe those tears away but I couldn’t.

I couldn’t do anything at all as I felt myself drift in and out of consciousness.

I heard his voice again.

But other than hearing him I felt him.

He was my face. And this time I also felt an irritating material over my nose and mouth.

‘Hae!!! Hae!’

Something was shaking me gently.

‘Please… Open your eyes please. Look at me Hae!’

With my greatest efforts, I opened my eyes slowly only to shut them closed immediately.

‘Baby… Please… Look at me, please look at me…’

I tried opening my eyes again.

Everything was a blur and I tried to blink hard to clear my vision.

As my vision cleared I realized who it was.

‘H-Hyukkie….’ I croaked.

‘Thank goodness.’ He started sobbing as relief washed over his expression.

I could barely recognize him.

He was unshaven, his hair was a mess and his eyes were puffy with blood shot eyes.

‘Y-y-you look h-horrible…’ I rasped softly.

He clamped a hand over his mouth as he shook hard with silent sobs.

‘Don’t cry…’

I tried to reach out to him and whimpered in pain as I tried to lift up my hand.

He came forward and still my actions immediately.

‘Take it out… The mask…’

He slowly lifted the oxygen mask over my head.

I smiled weakly at him.

‘I’m fine. Please stop crying…’

Despite the dizziness in my head, the dull ache in my chest and the fact that I felt like a heavy lead, I knew I am going to be fine.

With Hyukjae here with me.

I can only get better.

And I have to get better. I have to be well so Hyukjae wouldn’t cry anymore.

Because I am certain that the most painful sight on earth is to see Hyukjae cry.

‘I love you Hyukkie…’

His sobs ceased slightly as he froze.

‘I love you so much Hyukjae… I’m sorry I didn’t tell you earlier.’

Kyuhyun’s POV

Weeks had passed by slowly and Hyukjae is beginning to look more and more like a human being as Donghae began to get better each day.

The cast on his arm and leg was off but was still supported by a brace.

His ribs were still hurting him and every time he so much as whimpered Hyukjae would pale and roughly grabbed whichever doctor or nurse nearby and ordered them to check on his lover.

By now, every staff in the hospital knew of Hyukjae and his antics and would pay utmost attention to Donghae even without being told.

Hyukjae’s wrath wasn’t something fun to witness after all. 

There was once Siwon came by and was nearly beaten up by Hyukjae if not for Donghae’s weak pleas on the bed.

Siwon had left feeling guilty thinking that he had been the one to cause Donghae and Sungmin’s injuries.

‘Hey.’ I called out.

He barely looked up as he uttered, ‘I know it was my fault. You can beat me if you want to. Since I couldn’t do it myself.’

‘Hey…’ I reached over to rest my hand on his shoulders.

He looked over at me with a shocked expression.

‘It’s not your fault. Hyuk is just… It’s just him. He knows it’s not your fault.’

‘It’s of course my fault. I was the one driving. I-‘

‘No. Someone is after Donghae. It could have been me that had been driving. But still, Donghae would still be hurt.’ I said.

In fact, I was the one who failed my duty.

Once Teuk had told Hyuk of what he had found out, I was being tasked to watch over Donghae, to make sure no danger came to him.

But I failed. Terribly.

And Siwon shouldn’t be the one to take the blame on my behalf.

‘Who?’

‘We are still checking. But we do have a clue. Nothing you should be concerned about. Just stop blaming yourself.’ I patted his shoulder and left.

He tugged me back, ‘How could I not be concerned? It’s Donghae we are talking about.’

‘Just leave it to us.’

‘This is weird.’

‘What is?’

‘Why would be anyone be after Donghae?’

I realized my blunter now. I had revealed too much.

I shrugged his hand away from my arm, ‘Like I said. None of your business.’

I proceeded to turn around and saw Sungmin standing right in front, a clutch as a support as he staggered forward.

He had heard everything.

‘Kyu… Who is after Donghae?’ Sungmin asked as he neared us.
