Chapter 24A

In Another World

Three days went by so fast after Changmin's night stay at Yunho. For these two days, Changmin slept in the cat spa just like how the first day he was away from Junsu's house. He would take Gramps away from the cage and the kitten would happily sleep by his side like a cute kitten he was. Gramps would continue to stick with him until he woke up. Gramps would sleep throughout his chores in the morning in his pocket. Somehow Changmin wasn't bothered about it. Maybe Gramps was comforted by his heartbeat and his heart was eased by how comfortable he was with Gramps. Gramps took care of him in that way.

This morning, he woke up and petted Gramps' head. He cleansed himself and then started to take care of the spa. He wiped all the cabinets in the showroom and vacuumed the floor. Gramps was in his pocket as usual, purring and comforting Changmin. At least Changmin was assured he wasn't alone.

Changmin opened the spa, and to his surprise Yeon Hee was the first customer to walk in.

"Oppa!" Yeon Hee was excited to see Changmin. "Why don't you come to see Dr Kang?"

"I have an appointment with him today. I'll go see him."

"Okay, then. Omo!" Yeon Hee noticed there was a kitten in Changmin's pocket. "It's so cute!"

"Don't touch it! It's mine!" Changmin backed away. Gramps groaned and went back to sleep.

"Oppa's? You can own a cat here?"

"Gramps is only comfortable with me." Changmin smirked. Yeon Hee pouted. Changmin let Yeon Hee played with a few cats that he let go from the cages. Yeon Hee was a very passionate cat lover, she approached almost all the cats and kissed them at least once. Some cats responded positively and purred and lied on the floor to have their belly rubbed, but some responded negatively by giving her the evil eye and went to Changmin instead.

More Changmin's colleagues enter and more customers came too by the time Yeon Hee had had her fun and needed to go to work.

"I'll come again, oppa. And I think you will see me again when you come to Dr Kang's today. He asked me to tell you because you haven't bought any phone yet. He wants to do a psychiatric assessment on you,"

"Psychiatric?"

"For your memory. Didn't Junsu-ssi tell you about this?" Changmin didn't answer. Upon seeing that she had potentially spilled something that she shouldn't, Yeon Hee scratched the back of her head. "I-I think I'll go first, Changmin-oppa. I'll see you later."

"Okay," Changmin sent her to the door. When she left, he sighed heavily. He felt alone again.

A phone? He should buy one, but he didn't have enough money yet. He even had to scrap by only using the money he obtained from the job. If he was doing the modelling job, he might have more money.

Are you crazy, Changmin-ah?! The thoughts scolded him. He couldn't be that desperate just to expose himself to danger just for a phone.

He would get buy, he consoled himself.

"Changmin-ah!" he jumped out of his trance when he heard Kyuhyun called him. Kyuhyun's head popped up at the cats' back room. Changmin smiled at him, and he noticed there was a naughty smirk playing on Kyuhyun's lips.

"What?"

"He's here to see you..." said Kyuhyun in a sing-song tone.

"Who?" in his head, he could only think of Junsu. Did Junsu come to see me? He felt a smile crept up on his lips, his heart fluttered and he was nervous as a girl.

So much for avoiding Junsu.

"Ah, there you are!" he heard someone else's voice behind Kyuhyun. Changmin saw Yunho emerged and somehow he felt disappointed. He didn't know it showed on his face.

"Are you expecting someone else?" Yunho approached Changmin, and Kyuhyun quickly ran away when Yunho gave him a look. Changmin opened his mouth to answer 'Junsu' but decided against it. "Junsu-ssi, perhaps?"

"Um...why do you say you come to see me? You can just come. It's your spa."

"Aish...you are such an ignorant kid." Yunho ruffled Changmin's hair.

"How is your injury?"

"I'm good. Nothing to be worried of, you know." Yunho nodded and grinned at Changmin. They went to sit at the table located near the cages. "Here." the older man handed him a paper bag. Changmin took it and pulled out a box that was inside it. It was a brand new phone, one with the latest technology and the current 'it' phone.

"Oh...." Changmin looked at Yunho and back at the phone.

"It's for you." Yunho said with a smile on his face.

"No!" Changmin pushed the phone back to Yunho. "I can't take this. It's too expensive!"

"I know you must say that. But please take it."

"No..."

"You can't buy phone with how much you earned right now. It's impossible!"

"But the phone..."

"Take it as collateral from me. Like I'm bribing you to not tell anyone about what happened that night and as a gift for you because you took care of me,"

"But I did it because someone would do it,"

"No one cared about me, Changmin. My family was not here. They're far from here, and I have no other supporter. It's been a long time since I bought something for someone,"

"But..."

"Chang-dola..." Changmin froze.

He hadn't heard that nickname for centuries.

His hyungs always called him that in their early days. They pampered him so much because he was so young, much younger than them. But when the maknae started to bully them without a cause, they stopped calling him that.

"Take it, please." Yunho said, again. "It's a gift from a hyung, anyway," Changmin couldn't help but smiled.

"Ahh...you really make me feel bad," Changmin laughed. He looked at the phone and sighed. The gift was really tempting.

"Take it, please. For the sake of our relationship," Yunho pushed the phone once more towards Changmin.

"Well, if you insist..." Changmin held the phone in his hand, carefully gauged its weight in it. He glanced shyly at Yunho and pushed a button on it. Nice. It was a touch screen phone, a good one.

"Do you like it?" Changmin nodded. He mumbled thank you again. "I already put my number and the cat spa number."

"Thank you," Changmin checked the phone out and felt really happy about it. Yunho smiled when he saw how excited Changmin was with the new phone. "I will use it wisely."

"Use it however you want to," Changmin returned the smile, and felt like he was being doted just like how it was with Yunho. His Yunho always spoiled him like this, always making sure the maknae gets what he wanted.

But he was helpless to make them stay and that took away his happiness.

***

Changmin went to Dr Kang's office after lunch hour, the said appointment was scheduled that particular time. His mood was light and positive due to the unexpected gift he received this morning. After Yunho left the spa, most of the workers practically showered him with questions as if they were really seeing each other. Changmin if he wanted to say was a bit embarrassed about being paired up with someone he didn't have that kind of feelings. He felt the bond between them was extremely platonic. To help with that this Yunho acted quite similarly to his Yunho.

That was so different from how Junsu and Jaejoong from this universe with comparison to his Jaejoong and Junsu.

Changmin waited for fifteen minutes before Dr Kang was free to see him. Dr Kang looked the same as he last saw him with the bright smile and the sparkling eyes. Dr Kang offered him a seat and Changmin saw Yeon Hee slipped inside the room. Yeon Hee smiled at him and when Dr Kang cleared his throat, Yeon Hee corrected her composure. Changmin liked this girl.

Changmin listened intently as Dr Kang explained that his wound had healed perfectly and he only needed to do some psychiatric assessment today. Changmin obliged and instantly he was reminded of the last night he was at Junsu's. It must be Junsu who asked Dr Kang to do this to him.

When he answered Dr Kang's questions he couldn't help but felt burdened.

Junsu didn't believe in me. The statement brought a weight on him, and he was hopeless again. Junsu still thought he was having his imaginary self took over him. It was something only a schizophrenic patient would do and Changmin was sure that he wasn't.

But what if he was?

What if actually he was actually living a dream?

How could he explain it?

Changmin watched Dr Kang. Dr Kang was asking him a question but his brain didn't interpret anything that the sensory impulse his ear drums gave it. Changmin was lost in his own membrane, a thin and transparent membrane. The membrane was impenetrable, so strong from outside's wavelength. He blinked.

What if the dream that he had before was just dream? What if this was the real world?

But Yoochun said it wasn't.

No, Yoochun never said anything if this world was a fake. It must be a real world too.

"I'm confused." Changmin blurted out suddenly. "I'm confused." he repeated the words and felt his heart took an increasing pace. His mind boggled into a difficult thoughts again that he felt an aura of a headache coming.

"Are you okay, Changmin-ssi?"

"I'm not okay." Changmin said, his face paled. "Your questions, please stop it." Dr Kang held onto the papers tightly and he nodded.

"Take your time then,"

"I need to go out. I can answer your questions later but not now. I need air." Changmin caught a glance at Yeon Hee. She was worried. Changmin stood up and went outside.

Junsu was there. Changmin froze.

Junsu who was sitting on the waiting room looked up. He was well dressed in his flannel and vest, might be he was from the academy. He was folding his arms before his chest when Changmin came out. His face remained emotionless, never relayed any information on how he's feeling at the moment.

Upon seeing Changmin, he stood up and walked to him.

"Let's go home."

"Wh-what?"

"You heard me." Junsu's voice was as cold as ice. Changmin was startled but he followed Junsu eventually. Both of them climbed into Junsu's Ferrari and stayed silent until they reached home. Changmin was already jumpy when he got out of the car. Junsu hadn't say anything yet.

Once they were in the house, Changmin noticed that nothing much had changed. It was not dinner time yet and it was still early so Changmin didn't know how he would survive the day in this awkwardness.

"What did Dr Kang diagnose you?" Junsu opened his mouth after he took off his vest and sat on the couch in the living room.

"Diagnose?" Junsu didn't say anything. His face was still stoic. "He didn't diagnose anything because I couldn't complete the test,"

"Why?"

"I was confused."

"Confused?" Junsu looked at Changmin properly this time. Changmin averted his gaze away. Junsu watching him made Changmin uneasy. He sat awkwardly on the kitchen's chair and accidentally he saw the whiteboard.

There they were. There were the numbers that Jaejoong mentioned before. The numbers of how many men and women Junsu had slept with. Junsu counted every single one of them yet he never wrote anyone's name down. Changmin noticed from the last time that the number on the men's blue marker had increased to one more. One equalled to Changmin. Changmin was in a group of men that Junsu had slept with and had become as common as the number itself.

Changmin was hurt when he thought Junsu thought of him that way. Thinking back, Junsu had never said anything endearing or loving to him. Junsu never said he liked Changmin. He only let Changmin called him hyung, just because the younger man insisted to. Junsu must have done this so much before, according to the numbers, he was quite promiscuous. And he swung both ways, just like how Jaejoong said it.

At least I'm loyal to a certain side.

In fact, Junsu was crueller than Jaejoong to let Changmin's feelings swayed like this.

"Why don't you find me earlier?" Changmin asked, out of frustration. Junsu's eyes widened. "You could have search for me."

"I don't want to chain you down,"

"Why? So you can bring more girls home?" . Now Changmin couldn't live with himself anymore. He sounded like a hurt girlfriend.

"What are you talking about?" Junsu frowned. He was loosening his tie.

"I'm talking about your promiscuity! I can't believe you let me go just like that after what you did to me,"

"I don't let go of you."

"But you didn't go out and find me. You left me alone after that night cold and . I could barely walk because of what you did. I was against it but you forced me!"

"What are you implying?" Changmin's jaw dropped open. He wanted to cry. Didn't Junsu remember?

"I can't believe you like to play with someone else like that!" Changmin didn't wait long. He dashed to the bathroom and hid himself there. He wanted to cry but he couldn't cry in front of Junsu.

It was because of Jaejoong's words he became this insecure again. He thought he had found his comfort, his sanctuary in this whole new universe but he was ultimately wrong. Junsu would be as cold as he was. He would never been able to love someone like him.

He was just a number.

Changmin looked up at the ceiling to prevent the tears from rolling down.

The question had always anchored him down.

Why couldn't he control his emotions when it comes to Junsu?

Why couldn't he stop these tears because of Junsu?

Why couldn't he be stronger? Why does he have to be weak because of Junsu?

Changmin closed his eyes. He remembered his last dream after he met Jaejoong.

His Junsu fainted upon hearing about his disappearance. His Junsu loved him. His Junsu cared about him. His Junsu was worried.

But why did this Junsu have to be this cruel? It's not fair!

Changmin bit his lower lip and walked out from the bathroom only to find Junsu was out of the house again. He was frustrated. He wanted to reconcile with Junsu even if he was mad at him. But why did Junsu have to do this to him? When everything about them started to fall apart, Junsu would run, disappear and never talked about it.

Well, what do you expect, Changmin-ah?

Changmin sighed. He went to the door and the door was not locked. Junsu just left it like this.

I was debating whether or not to post this comment since it's going to be really, really late (I see that you completed it in April and it's December now) but then I realized I couldn't go on without telling you about how beautiful it is.
The characters have so much depth. I love how Junsu seems so nice sometimes and then at others, he's harsh and cold. I love you you revealed why that was so, and why it meant everything. I love how Changmin managed to worm himself into Junsu's heart even though he's not the Junsu he was wishing for. Then there's Yunho whom was so charming and nice, and I thought that he genuinely did love Changmin, and then bam. But it makes sense, and that's why I really enjoyed reading this. I love how Jaejoong was so cold (for no reason, it seemed at first) and evil and dark, but then it ended up being Junsu's fault (not really though)and it all connects. And Yoochun, the manhwa artist, and I don't think words can really describe what a character he was. And his brother, who was so protective of him although he was the one sick.
Oh, and the wishes. The wishes are so sad. The ones about changing his hyungs, and when they actually did change, he didn't want it anymore. (not really for Junsu's case)
I don't read minsu stories much, but this. I spent hours reading this and I honestly couldn't stop. It's basically everything I'm looking for in a story. You're a really talented author!

Far out, I was so emotionally involved in this fanfic I think at one point of reading I nearly started crying OTL But anyway, this story was so beautiful I can't even describe it. I was surprised at Jaejoong's character at first since it was so different to what I normally saw in other DBSK fanfics but after he broke down when Junsu died I understood why :c This is actually my first Changmin X Junsu fanfic, I was in the middle of searching for Yunjae fanfics but ran across this one, I think I have a new pairing now C: Anyway, thanks for writing this story!
