Chapter 1

'Betterer' Isn't a Word

Jungkook was lying on his bed, staring at his ceiling and sighing.

He was in a predicament.

A very, very large predicament.

He was very much in love with his best friend, Kim Taehyung, and he had absolutely no idea what to do about that. If he confessed, there were four possible scenarios that could happen. One, the most unrealistic, Taehyung would accept his love with open arms, and they would live happily ever after with twelve dogs in Hawaii where they would never have to worry about taxes or the IRS again. Two, the most realistic, he would refuse, lock Jungkook out from his heart and throw him to the curb, never to look back at him. Three, he could think that Jungkook was joking and just laugh it off, not speaking of it after that because it would put them both in an awkward situation, or four, he could just not hear him at all, and Jungkook would never again gain the courage to confess. This kind of stuff is a one time deal for a guy like him.

How might he have gotten in this situation, you ask?

Well, Jungkook himself doesn't really know. He doesn't really even know where to start. The story is quite long, but let's start from here:

One day, he was sitting in his room when he suddenly started thinking, "hey, you know what's not appealing? s. You know what is appealing? ."

That may not have been exactly how it went, but you get the gist of things.

Anyway, so here he is, gay and confused, trying to figure out how to go about doing things from then on. He hadn't told anyone, fearful of their disapproving gazes and stern words, but his mother still found out. Maternal intuition, you know?

Every once in a while, Jungkook started receiving these 'anonymous' notes that said 'if you ever need someone to talk with, your family is always there for you' and 'be who you want to be and don't let anyone change you'. There was also that time when he found a gay magazine buried under his children's books that he then took and threw into his mom's room, screaming the entire time.

His family stressed him out, but he loved them nonetheless.

Back to Taehyung.

Jungkook first met Taehyung when he was in middle school. He had just entered the sixth grade, preparing for the dangers that came with being in a new school, and the first thing he did was run head first into an older student, sending the both of them flying.

Great.

Just wonderful, really.

As the huge mess that the entirety of Jeon Jungkook is, he got up, dropping all his books in the process, and went to help the older up. Tears were ready to fall as he shakily reached out a hand, and the other student was staring at him with a discontent look. Jungkook silently whimpered, and he started retracting his hand when the other student beamed and grabbed his outstretched hand to bring himself back up, almost pulling the young boy down with him instead.

Startled, Jungkook started stuttering, not quite sure what to say or do, but the other student was quick to save him.

"Nice to meet you there! I'm Park Jimin, I've never seen you around the school before, so I'm guessing you're a new kid? What's your name, new kid?"

"J-Jeon Jungkook, n-nice to m-meet you too."

The older student, now known as Jimin, started talking Jungkook's ear off as he slung his arm around the younger's shoulders. He began leading him away from the mess that was where they just fell and towards Jungkook's class, which, by the way, he didn't know what class the kid even had, but Jungkook swiftly squirmed out of the hold and went back to the front gate. Confused, Jimin looked to him only to realize that, yes, the kid's books were still on the ground.

"Oh. Right. Here, let me help you with that."

Jimin reached down to grab Jungkook's books for him while Jungkook tried to pick up as many as he could to take the burden off of the older student, and they ended up both grabbing the same math notebook, Jimin's hand on top of his.

They stared into each other's eyes, and Jimin smiled before taking the book out of the younger's hand, placing it on top of the neat pile he had organized. Then he took the rest of Jungkook's books, laid them on the pile as well and grabbed the younger's hand this time, leading him to his class.

And that was the day that Jungkook first fell in love.

Now you may be wondering, what the hell does being in love with Jimin have to do with Taehyung? Well, let me tell you.

Park Jimin was popular. Super popular, like the most popular student in the entire school. It had gone around school very quickly that he had helped a sixth grader. Him, an eighth grader, helped a sixth grader. Jimin had run to him whenever he could, hugging him, laughing with him, feeding him at some point. Everyone was envious. They wanted to be Jimin's friend. They wanted to talk to him. They wanted to be fed by him. But no, this new kid, Jungkick or something like that, got to talk to him. On his first day of school.

And they were ready to kill. New kid, new blood to be spilt.

The next few days at school, Jungkook felt like he was in hell.

Death stares were coming at him from every direction, and he couldn't help but feel like crying. He didn't know what he did, he didn't know why everyone hated him, but he was sad and all he wanted was a hug from his Jiminnie because his Jiminnie would make everything better and he would tell Jungkook that no one hated him and that he was the most precious thing in the world and they would talk about dancing together and singing and they would laugh together and just in general have a good time because his Jiminnie knew how to make things better because his Jiminnie was smart and just knew what to say at the right time and his Jiminnie knew how to make him happy and how to make him smile because his Jiminnie just understood what he was feeling and-

"Ow!"

Jungkook fell over, back flat on the ground and was now staring up at a broken fan, trying its hardest to continue spinning even though it knows that it can't. He couldn't help but want to keep staring at that struggling fan, slowly turning in a circle when a head of pink hair popped into his view. Jungkook's eyes widened, taking in the sight of the very concerned but still very handsome stranger in front of above him.

"Oh my god, are you okay? I totally was not looking where I was going and I just took you down, Jesus, I don't think anyone would be alright after that. You hit the ground with a really solid thud man and- oh my god! You're Jungkook! Hi! I'm Taehyung! Wow, Jimin was telling me all about you yesterday! He said you were the cutest kid he'd ever seen even though he knows me, but now I can see that he's totally right! You are absolutely adorable and I could just squish your cheeks together until- oh gosh, you're still on the floor. Maybe we should take you to the nurse, you seem really out of it. Alright Taehyung, you can do this, the kid can't weigh that much, and even if he did, why else did dad make you carry all those bags of rice? To prepare for this, of course. Thanks, dad, you're really looking out for me. Here it goes."

Taehyung went to scoop Jungkook off of the ground when the boy scrambled up and against a wall, eyes giving Taehyung a crazy look.

"Oh, I guess you're okay then. Come on, my class is near yours, let's go together." Taehyung then smiled lightly, gently holding out his hand. Not sensing any further danger, Jungkook grabbed the hand, allowing himself to be pulled up onto his feet.

On the way to the classroom, Jungkook noticed that almost everyone in their path was moving away for them and that they were also waving and shyly saying 'good morning' as they passed by. He just nodded in their general direction while Taehyung was all smiles and greeted them back enthusiastically.

You know how I said Jimin was the most popular kid in school? Yeah, I was lying. Taehyung is the most popular kid in school. Jimin's just his best friend, which in turn makes him pretty damn popular too.

Of course, Jungkook didn't know this. Jungkook never knows these things. He missed the memo.

"S-so, umm, Taehyung, you know Jiminnie?"

Taehyung turned his head and smiled at him, nodding cheerfully.

"You bet I do! Chimchim is my best friend. He and I have been toughing it out together for years and years. We're always together, but I had a really bad cold at the beginning of the school year so I missed some school... That's probably why you haven't seen me around yet! Minnie said that you were a new student so it makes sense that you didn't hear anything either!"

Suddenly, Taehyung leaned really close to the younger's ear, whispering very quickly.

"Have you noticed all the students staring at us?"

Jungkook nodded very carefully, making sure not to make any large, sudden movements. Taehyung just gave him one solid nod.

"Apparently people keep talking about me, but don't listen to anything they say! I know they're out to get me, but I have to keep a low profile." He straightened up, stopping Jungkook in the process, made some shifty eyes and then sprinted down the hall, dragging the poor boy along with him.

Jungkook was absolutely perplexed and scared out of his mind, but also oddly intrigued. Taehyung started laughing at some point in their trip down to his classroom, and he couldn't help but let a smile creep onto his face as well. When they reached the doors to their rooms, Taehyung squished the younger's cheeks together with the palms of his hands, cooing at him before he waved goodbye (quite drastically, might I add) and slipped into his own class.

Jungkook had a dumb smile on his face for the rest of the class, but no one had the heart to ask him what had happened.

At lunch that day, Taehyung had latched onto him and brought him to their table where there was an extra person sitting beside Jimin that he didn't recognize. He was soon introduced as Oh Sehun, and though he didn't seem to ever want to do anything, he and Jungkook got along pretty well.

The next day, people were no longer looking as though they were ready to tear Jungkook limb from limb, and that was all thanks to Taehyung managing to convince them all to 'shut the up and leave the goddamn new kid alone' because 'he's the sweetest, cutest little thing ever and he does not deserve this kind of behaviour'.

Jungkook felt very proud to now call Taehyung his friend. As time went on, however, the younger became very aware of their , though only of two years. Jimin and Taehyung were all graduating next year, and he would be left alone, again.

So he made the most out of this last year with them, and then said goodbye as they went off to high school.

Now before we get all sad and depressed, no, Taehyung didn't move to some foreign country without telling Jungkook, forever leaving him in the darkness and not contacting him until ten years later when they miraculously find each other in the streets of Rome. That doesn't happen in real life. Instead, they did what you normally do with normal friends, if you can call Taehyung normal. They stayed in contact through the years, Taehyung telling Jungkook to hurry up and get older because then they could go to school together and Jungkook telling him to shut up because he doesn't have any good comebacks.

Trust him, he would if he could. Thank god that he just graduated and would be going to the same school as them starting next year.

He was very excited to finally get to go to classes with both Taehyung and Jimin, and since their school was a self-paced school, he decided to learn ahead of his year and share a class with Taehyung. That way, they would be able to talk more. The more and more he talked to Taehyung though, the more he realized that the feelings he had for him may not have been as platonic as he had wanted them to be. Actually, nowhere near.

So, why not confess, right? Sure some bad things might happen, but it couldn't be anything too terrible, right?

Obviously, Jungkook had not thought this through. Most certainly not. You can very clearly see what thoughts he had after he had thought it through. All negative. One thing led to another, and before he knew it, there were millions and millions of doubts planted in his head, the root of the problem being one single person.

This is where Jung Hoseok comes into play.

Chapter 36: Aww, this story was just beautiful! Now, this comment's gonna be huge but just bear with me.

Firstly, I'm NOT a silent reader, please don't think I am. In fact, I actually comment a lot (one in each chapter) but this story had me hooked. I couldn't stop reading it, I didn't even think about scrolling to the comments to leave a message. I scrolled down and hit the 'Next Chapter' as soon as I saw it, and started off with the new chapter. I was reading a whole lot of angst and drama fan-fictions, and I needed a story that's just pure comedy and fluff, something cute and light to make me smile. Thankfully, I found this wonderful story. Unfortunately, I found this story on the last day of my Spring break. So, school came in between (it's been 2 days of school actually) and that just made me very determined on finishing the story than commenting on it. So, I decided to leave this comment at the last chapter.

Now, back to the story. I see you're a ChanBaek/BaekYeol shipper and that's probably what you mostly write. To see that you took your time to write a TaeKook/VKook story itself made me gain respect for you. This story was just an amazing roller-coaster, it gave me mixed feelings and some moments made me squeal while others had me cracking up. There were also times when I felt sad because Taehyung and Jungkook were deeply in love with each other, but they were too dense to realise it or make a move. Reading about Yoongi's family also made me sad. All turned out to be good and well in the end though. This story is just perfect; it has the right amount of fluff, comedy, romance and a little bit of angst. It was overwhelming with pure creativity, to be honest, and I absolutely loved it.

You see, I'm a writer myself. Sometimes, we need a break too. I decided to look for a fun story to read, and I didn't think I'd find the right story at once. Surprisingly, I did! It's your splendid story! I'm so glad I found this, it was truly an excellent ride for me. I didn't get bored out of it, nor did I want to give up reading it. I'll look forward to more stories from you, I'll read them when I'm free. Good luck <3
