Remember when you once told me when I become older, I would finally understand?

I was looking up and saw the broad sky in paper planes and peri-winkle blues.

I remember reaching out and drawing a random line for you, traced it all over the globe and back to your wise heart so that when I become older, my head would be full of understanding and I’d be able to navigate back to my place, and settle down with you.

You said that our worlds were too distant and different.

You, with your job and bills to pay.

And me, with my honey-sweet, sweet dreams.

I remember nodding my head and pulling back my long black fly-away hair over my shoulder, thinking that if we’re alive together against all the odds and centuries, that’s close enough for me.

I kissed you then, and you told me I was great.

Joyful smiles on Fridays great, Hearty-laughs great and giggles great.

I’m older now and I do understand that dotted lines get tangled or just fall away completely, and you were right when you said that things aren’t quite as pretty as they are in my party-hat head.

I’ll draw new things for you and cheer on my birthdays for you.

And I hope that someday you will find somewhere nice to land.
