Vacation
Mail Order LeoThe next morning, you started planning. There was no way in hell you were going back to work any time soon, not after everything that had happened, so you were doing the best thing possible.
“Yes, all of my vacation days. Thanks. Bye.”
Two and a half weeks, just you and Leo. Last minute tickets and you would be on the beach by the next evening. And, quite literally, you couldn't wait.
You hung up the call, severing your last connection to work for quite a while, thank you very much. You could hear chaos in the background but decided not to venture towards that; honestly, you were more preoccupied by Leo. He seemed very... nervous today, not a feature you had seen in him before, and after everything that happened you were worried. When you first asked him about going on this trip he seemed very excited, but as time passed (granted, it was less than a day) he had slowly come to a quiet thoughtfulness.
“It's all set,” you called to him. He was in the kitchen, somewhere you hadn't seen him in ages. It warmed your heart, though, the semblance of normalcy. He had absolutely insisted on cooking brunch for you, but you had gone into the living room to make the call. You returned to your seat just as he was flipping the eggs. “We're going. It was a miracle to have gotten everything in order that quick, looks like it was meant to be.”
You got a low and obviously distracted hum in response. You leaned on your elbow and tapped on the table, watching him work and trying to figure out what was wrong. There was a lot it could be, but none of that was likely. Unless.
“Is it because we didn't... you know... do it last night?”
The spatula flipped out of his hand as he accidentally jammed it into the pan, sending the pan skittering across the stove top and and spatula across the counter. He scrambled to put everything back in its place. If saying something like that would get him this animated, you would need to pick awkward conversation topics more often.
“What are you even talking about?” He questioned, anxiously flipping the egg again unnecessarily.
“You seem nervous, tense. Is that why? I'm sorry, I just didn't really feel up to it after everything, I--”
“You absolutely do not need to apologize.” As soon as you explained he calmed down, returning to his usual demeanor. He was facing you, watching you carefully with those gorgeous caring eyes. “You never need to say sorry for something like that, do you understand?” He was insistent, refusing to turn around until you acknowledge him. You nodded firmly and you visibly saw his shoulders relax.
“Good.” He went back to the pan. “And I'm not tense.”
“Yes you are.” You hopped out of your chair and walked behind him, poking at the tense muscles in his shoulders. You began to massage them seeing if they would loosen. “Maybe I can help with that.”
He spun around and captured your hands, bringing them to his lips for a kiss. “But that's my job.”
You pulled your hands away, smirking. “Oh look, you seem fine.”
Leo offered a small smile, and turned back to the eggs to plate them before they burned. In true Leo fashion, he didn't respond. Bubbly and excited about the upcoming trip, you scarfed down the food he presented you and grabbed his hand to drag him back to the bedroom.
“We need to go shopping for you at some point, since you don't have a bathing suit. Maybe we can do that there, so we don't need to rush today or tomorrow. Now, what should I pack? Dresses? How many bathing suits? I think I have three...” You were off in your own little world, enjoying the way there was nothing serious to think about. You were digging through the drawers when Leo reached over and mused your hair.
“I'm going to go take a walk, okay? I'll be back in just a few minutes.”
You stopped what you were doing, clothes scattered around you on the floor and an empty suitcase on the other side of the room. Leo already had a foot out the doorway.
“W-wait..” You were suddenly unsure. He rarely, if ever, acted like this. It was making you nervous. But, you had given him his identity as a person, not some doll. He could go for a walk if he wanted. If you went for a walk it was no big deal. Why were you panicking over him going for a walk? He had stopped to look back at you, waiting for you to continue speaking. “Oh, never mind, just, I'll be here if you need me.” You took your phone out of your pocket, the one that matched his. “Call me if you need anything, okay?”
He broke into such gentle and warm smile that you couldn't help but feel more at ease. He pulled out his own phone and held it up as he went to leave again, proving that he could contact you.
“Of course. I'll be back in just a little while, don't worry.” He headed down the hallway.
“I'll be waiting!” You called after him, but you already heard the front door open and shut. You sat in silence for a moment, listening to see if he would come back. When he didn't, you morosely turned back to your clothes. It wasn't nearly as fun or exciting if he wasn't there with you.
Though, it did give you the opportunity to plan a few surprises for the trip. Namely, that lingerie you had hidden in the bottom of the drawer and the nearly nonexistent bikini you had never had the guts to wear. Trying to put aside your cautious feelings about Leo and instead focus on thee upcoming trip, and you couldn't help but break into a small grin. You couldn't even imagine his face when he saw you in something like that. Not that you could actually imagine wearing it, but still. You tucked it into the bottom of your suitcase for later.
