Chapter 27

Trouble

When Tiffany reached the resort’s restaurant she saw Yuri sitting on a corner table and staring out the window. She slowly made her way to the lone figure.

“Hi. Good morning.” Tiffany greeted brightly.

Yuri was startled at the interruption of her thoughts.

“Oh. H-hi. Good morning.” She greeted back.

“May I?” Tiffany carefully asked while gesturing for the empty seat in front.

“Y—yes. Of course.”

Tiffany sat there across from Yuri. She has obviously just had a shower. With her hair still wet, skin seemed so smooth under the bright sunny day, face so fresh in the morning… Yuri gulped. She stopped herself from staring at the girl. She shifted her eyes outside the window.

“Hey, are you okay? You seem in distraught.” Tiffany was concerned.

“No—I mean yes I’m fine.” Yuri gave a nervous laugh.

Tiffany eyed the girl. Liar.

Yuri felt nervous under the stare. She knew Tiffany didn’t believe her. She sighed.

“I think I really drank too much last night that I ended up having such a weird dream.” Yuri averted her eyes into the cup she was holding in front of her.

“Huh?”

Tiffany kept quiet and waited for the other girl to continue. Last night…

“I had such a weird dream. It was so vivid that it seemed so real.”

“What was it about?”

Yuri paused for a while before speaking. “It was a full moon and the night sky was so beautiful. I sat there alone on the sand and staring at the vast sea ahead. Then…”

“Then?”

“Then…you came walking towards my direction and stopped beside me.”

Tiffany stayed quiet.

“Then….”

“Then?”

…..

“I stood up and faced you. Then we talked…..then….” Yuri trailed off. She couldn’t just tell the girl in front of her that she had a dream about her and in that dream she was kissing her.

“Then what Yuri?”

“……Then I ran.” Yuri shortened the story and left out the kissing part.

“You ran?” Tiffany eyed the girl across from her. It’s not the whole story.

“Y—yeah. I ran. That’s why it was weird. Why would I run right?” Yuri nervously laughed and grinned like an idiot.

Tiffany stared at her for a moment.

“That’s indeed weird.” Tiffany nodded and smiled. You’re really not telling that part huh?

“Yeah. Really weird.” Yuri took a quick glance at the smiling girl across from her. God. Don’t smile at me like that. You’re flipping my insides and raising my insulin level. She still remembered the lines she had in her dream.

“Have you seen the others?” Yuri changed the topic and looked around.

“They went home ahead this morning. The company driver had an emergency at home so he had to head home earlier. The rest also had some other family stuff to do so they left together.”

“Oh.” Yuri nodded in understanding.

“I brought my car. I can give you a ride.” Tiffany offered with a smile. You are such a bad liar Kwon Yuri. That’s what you get for drinking too much.

“Ah okay. Thank you.” Yuri returned the smile but quickly avoided eye contact. Images of her vivid dream kept flashing on her mind. Aish! That kiss felt so real.

“So when are we leaving?”

“Whenever you’re ready.” Tiffany answered still wearing the bright smile.

“Uhh…have you had breakfast already?” Yuri couldn’t think of anything else to say. Way to go creep.

“Not yet. Would you like to join me?”

Yuri stared at her near empty coffee cup. “Uhh…okay.” She then smiled and called out for a waiter.

The two spent the morning together for breakfast.

When Jessica woke up she saw the empty space beside her. She looked around the room but saw no signs of Taeyeon. She slowly made her way out of the room. She heard sounds of laughter coming from the kitchen and made her way there. She saw Taeyeon and the old woman happily chatting while cooking.

“Oh you’re awake. How was your sleep dear?” The old woman saw her entering the kitchen.

“Good morning halmeoni. I had a good rest thank you.” Jessica shyly smiled at the old woman.

Taeyeon turned to face her and smiled brightly. “Hi good morning.”

“G---good morning.” Jessica greeted back. She seems to be in a good mood today.

“Is there anything I can do to help halmeoni?” Jessica offered.

The old woman paused for a while. “Can you please continue this stew while I go check for the mail? I am expecting something from my daughter today.”

“Yes halmeoni.”

“Okay then. I’ll leave you two for a while.” The old woman patted the two girls before heading out of the kitchen.

Jessica stared at the pot in front of her.

Taeyeon watched the girl beside her and couldn’t help but smile. The girl seemed at a loss. Wrong move halmeoni.

Jessica was startled when she felt Taeyeon turn her so that her back was now facing the other girl.

“Wear this first.” Taeyeon placed an apron on Jessica and tied it at the back.

Jessica’s breath hitched. She could feel Taeyeon’s presence and her hands tying the knot on her back.

“There. You’re ready to go.” Taeyeon turned her around and smiled brightly at her.

“Th—thank you.”

“Sure.” Taeyeon smiled again and continued what she was doing on the counter top.

Jessica stared again at the pot. She clearly had no idea what to do next. Then she heard the girl beside her chuckle.

She unconsciously pouted.

“You put these first. Then slowly mix everything.” Taeyeon handed her the chopped vegetables and pointed at the seasonings.

Jessica took some of the ingredients and placed them on the pot. She then reached for the seasonings.

“Wait...” Taeyeon held Jessica’s hand to stop her.

“Just add a little bit of this.” Taeyeon guided her to only put a small amount of the seasonings.

“Then stir it slowly.” Taeyeon was still holding her hand while guiding her on how to stir the food.

Jessica felt her face heat up. She could feel her hand burning from the touch. And her heart racing at the close proximity of her and Taeyeon. She observed the girl from her peripheral view, the girl was smiling and her eyes were twinkling while staring at the food in front of them. She was brought out from her thoughts when she felt Taeyeon release her hand and took a step back.

“There. Just continue doing it that way.” Taeyeon was still smiling at her with eyes constantly shifting between her and the pot.

Jessica nodded and glued her attention on what she’s doing.

I think I’m creeping her out from all the grinning I’m doing. But I can’t help it. She still hasn’t changed. She still doesn’t know how to cook. ^^ Taeyeon still wore the smile. She had a mental battle while preparing the side dishes.

***

“Wow. This stew is really good.” The old man nodded while eating a mouthful of the food prepared.

“Indeed. Jessica cooked it for us.” The old woman proudly stated and patted Jessica who was seating beside her.

“You could be a good wife.” The old man gave her a thumbs up. The old woman nodded and chuckled.

Jessica’s face immediately heated up with the last remark. She was about to protest that it wasn’t her who actually cooked the stew but then Taeyeon interrupted her.

“You’re right harabeoji. It’s really good. Jessica did a lot of effort earlier while cooking this.” Taeyeon nodded and smiled at her.

Jessica knew that there’s no point of protesting and arguing with Taeyeon. “Uhh…Thank you harabeoji.” She shyly smiled and resumed eating.

The breakfast went well with the four of them chatting about different stuff. After breakfast, Jessica and Taeyeon helped wash the dishes and left to look for the mechanic shop.

***

Tiffany gave Yuri a ride home. While on their way the two talked about the stuff they've been through while preparing for the convention. The preparation, the sleepless nights coming up with ideas for the planning, the funny stuff that happened along the way, and the stupid things their colleagues did last night at the party. The two were having a good time chatting that the ride home seemed short.

“But you know your dream was really weird. It was indeed a full moon last night.” Tiffany glanced at the girl on the passenger’s seat.

“Was it? I don’t remember. I must have been really drunk.” Yuri tilted her head trying to remember last night.

Tiffany chuckled.

“Do you remember anything that I did last night?” Yuri curiously asked the girl beside her.

“Hmmm….Let me see…. You were drunk dancing with some foreign girls at the bar.”

“I did?” Yuri held her chin trying to remember the scene.

“Yes you did. And you seem to be enjoying dancing with them. They were a bunch of clingy girls.” Tiffany stared at the road ahead.

Yuri wasn’t sure if she heard a hint of jealousy at the girl’s tone.

“Hmmm… I think I remember dancing with some people.” Yuri stole a quick glance at Tiffany. Are you by any chance, jealous of what I did? But that’s impossible. Yuri dismissed the thought.

“Ohh. We’re here already.” Yuri saw their apartment building and Tiffany pulled off in front of it.

“So…uhh…Would you like to come upstairs?" Yuri hesitantly offered. The end of the convention would also mean the end of working with the other girl. Will I ever see you again?

Tiffany wanted to but she still had important things in mind to do. She hesitantly declined.

“I would love to but I still have some stuff to do…I’m sorry. Maybe next time? You better have some rest first Yuri-ah. You wouldn’t want to end up with erted dreams this time would you?” Tiffany chuckled and looked at the girl in front of her who had just gone red.

Yuri couldn’t help but be embarrassed of how her dreams are working.

“Ye—yeah. I think I should just sleep this off.” Yuri chuckled along.

“So…thank you for the ride. See you soon Fany.” Yuri got off the car.

“See you soon Yuri.” Tiffany smiled and waved at her.

“Drive safely.” Yuri waved back before closing the door.

She watched as the car drove away.

***

After the car has been repaired, Taeyeon and Jessica bid their thanks and goodbyes to the old couple and made their way back to Seoul.

“They were such a cute couple.” Jessica smiled while staring out the window.

“Yeah. Harabeoji seemed to be a funny type while halmeoni enjoyed his humour.” Taeyeon was also smiling while eyes on the road ahead.

“Why didn’t you tell them you cooked the stew instead of me?” Jessica curiously asked and looked at the girl beside her.

Taeyeon took a quick glance at her. “You did the cooking. I was just there to guide you. So technically you still did the cooking.” She grinned and turned her attention back at the road.

“Whatever.” Jessica rolled her eyes.

“But it’s the truth.” Taeyeon was still smiling while driving.

“You know I’m bad at cooking.” Jessica crossed her arms.

“But you did pretty well back there.” Taeyeon took another glance at the sulking girl beside her. She grinned again.

“You’re grinning. Meaning you’re bluffing.” Jessica sat back and stared out the window with arms still crossed.

Taeyeon kept a straight face trying to suppress her smile. “There. I’m not grinning.”

Jessica rolled her eyes.

“Oh come on. I wasn’t smiling because I was bluffing. I just found it funny how you seem to be at a loss when halmeoni left you to continue cooking the stew.” Taeyeon explained trying to maintain a straight face to convince the other girl that she was indeed serious of her compliment back there.

“Yah! I wasn’t at a loss.” Jessica turned to her and glared at her.

“Yes you were.” Taeyeon grinned.

“Just pay attention to your driving. We still have a lot of work to do later.” Jessica turned to face at the road ahead of them.

Taeyeon didn’t say anything more. She focused on driving but still wearing a smile on her face.

*

Taeyeon pulled off in front of Jessica’s apartment building.

“So, see you later at the office?”

“Yup. See you later. Things would be easier now after everything has been settled.” Jessica stated while removing her seatbelt.

Taeyeon nodded.

“Hey, I meant what I said earlier that you really did a good job cooking the stew.” Taeyeon looked serious.

Jessica stared at her for a moment.

“Fine. I believe you. Thank you.” Jessica couldn’t help but blush then she shyly smiled.

Taeyeon grinned.

“See you later. Drive safely.” Jessica hopped off the car.

“See you. And by the way, I think harabeoji is right. You’d be a good wife.” Taeyeon smiled again and drove away.

Jessica was left staring at the retreating image of the car. Her face all flustered up from what Taeyeon said. Her heart began racing again.
