Chapter 31:

Continuation of Chapter 29

Screams echoed through the backyard at the sound of the gunshot.

Eyes covered with shaking hands, but there was only silence that followed the sound of a body falling onto the ground.

Gasps.

The blonde mother to be slowly opened her eyes only to let out a squeal. She quickly ran from her spot and went into the arms of her mother. Her cries were no longer able to be contained.

Slowly coming out of their hiding spots, eyes fell upon the still body of the one person that terrorized their friend group. Mixed feelings of sadness, anger, and relief filled them. They felt disappointment as a peer whom they grew up laid still.

Quietness.

It wasn’t until the sound of sirens broke the silence and snapped out of everyone’s train of thoughts. Like a blur, police came rushing into the scene and the paramedics came to take Mr. Jung and Taeyeon’s body away.

“You’ve done well Investigator Shim,” said a man in a suit. His face was void of any emotions, but he gave the young investigator a pat on the shoulder.

Changmin could only show a small smile as he bowed.

He looked around the crime scene and let out a sigh. This was all part of his job, but this particular event had left a bitter taste in his mouth.

Young teens that got into more trouble than they could comprehend. It made him sad that someone so young had to die in such terrible circumstances. This particular situation that had just transpired, Changmin couldn’t help but think about all the possible outcomes that could have happened. Would Taecyeon still be alive? Would he be succeeding in life if his family situation was different?

They were a bunch of what ifs, but they were all life lessons to be learned from. Taking a final look around he could only hope for a proper future for the group of friends and the family that is soon to be growing.

May 16, 2019

Two days had passed since Taeyeon had awaken in the hospital. And Dr. Park had given the green light for both Taeyeon and Mr. Jung to be discharged.

It was no surprise to see a group of ten or more come to aid the two men and bring them home. And when they arrived back in the Jung Estate… despite the happiness of being allowed to come home… the atmosphere brought everyone’s mood down. The events of three days ago were still fresh in their minds.

The group of friends and both the Kim and Jung family were all quiet as they all sat in the long dining table. They quietly ate their food as their thoughts were filled with what had transpired.

Not taking the suffocating air, Mr. Jung had cleared his throat gathering everyone’s attention.

“I’m glad that you are all here at my home to welcome Taeyeon and I back. For that, I am grateful. And I know why we are all feeling very down at the moment,” he looked at everyone’s eyes. Most of the eyes looked down as they made eye contact. He sighed before taking a deep breath to put a reassuring smile on his face. “We may have just gone through something terrible and I understand that although Taecyeon was not a great person, you have all lost a peer. But I beg of you to hold your head up high and let’s move on with a stronger and braver heart”

Taeyeon cleared his throat next, “Thank you all for visiting me in the hospital and for taking us home. But dad is right. We should keep moving forward! We’re graduating in a week and a day! We’re going to be done with high school! I’m fine! Dad is fine! We’re all fine! Let us all stay strong and have a positive light in the future as our worries are now all behind us,” he smiled brightly showing his chin dimple.

Jessica couldn’t help but look at her fiancé in awe. With all the hardships that they all had to face, and the pain they all felt, she was in awe of how he could still be so positive. This was something that made her fall for him harder. He never stopped surprising her. She reached out and grabbed his hand and gave it a squeeze, in which he returned along with that genuine dorky smile she loved.

“I love you” she whispered as she leaned in to give him a kiss on the cheek.

A soft chuckle, “I love you too princess,”

From all that, the mood of their luncheon had lightened. And soon the dining room was filled with noise of laughter and playful banter amongst them all.
