Chapter 20:  Here Comes Trouble

The duo decided that a slice of pizza was not enough to hold fulfill their hungriness. Walking out of the roller rink hand in hand, they head toward Taeyeon’s car. Smiling widely, Taeyeon opened the door for Jessica and bowed causing the blonde to playfully slap his shoulder.

They sat in the car deciding where to go but ended up choosing Jessica’s favorite restaurant. It was an Italian restaurant in the heart of Seoul. Taeyeon knew that the place was rather pricey, but he only wanted the best for her and her happiness was all that he really wanted.

Upon entering, the host of the restaurant immediately recognized the blonde and led her to her usual spot. Being the gentleman that he was, he pulled out the girl’s chair and bowed once again.

“Yah, you’re spoiling me…” she pouted as her cheeks grew warm.

He gave his infamous dorky smile and shrugged before taking a seat in front of her.

Picking up the menu, Taeyeon’s eyes scanned the menu. Eyes almost bulging at the price of the entrees. However, with some thought he never really splurged the money he made and decided that this was definitely worth it. Especially on their first date together.

Picking out what they wanted they sat their menu down and waited for the waiter to come around and take their order.

When the waiter came around they placed their orders. Taeyeon however had to flag down their server again before saying, “Can you make sure that there is absolutely no cucumbers on our salads?”

This caught Jessica’s attention. Her face grew pink as she looked down in embarrassment. His efforts surprised her but it also made her feel happy to know that he was making the efforts and remembered her likes and dislikes.

The duo sat in comfortable silence as they looked around their surroundings, not really knowing what to say to each other. When they had placed their orders, Taeyeon couldn’t help but eye his companion. Taking in all her features as if she was going to disappear any moment.

“Staring is rude,” she smirked playfully causing him to choke as he was taking a sip of his water.

Clearing his throat, he scratched the back of his head, “I-I’m s-sorry…”

“I know I’m ugly,” she pouted. “I gained so much weight!”  

His eyes widened and looked at her with disbelief, “Yah! That’s not true! I think… you’re still very p-pretty” he said, however the last part almost came out as a whisper.

It was her turn to blush.

Before she could say anything else their food had arrived. The oldest couldn’t help but let out a chuckle as he watched the blonde’s face light up at the sight of food. She had ordered her favorite, something fancy and something he could not pronounce. While he just picked something quite ordinary; spaghetti and meatballs.

In the middle of their meal, a middle-aged woman came walking towards them. Taeyeon’s eyes scrunched as he vaguely knew who she was. But as she stood there at the side of their table, he noticed Jessica had dropped her fork and was sitting rather stiff.

“Sooyeon-ah~” the lady cooed.

Biting her lower lip, she took a deep breath and turned to the woman. “Y-Yes?”

“Come home…” she said quietly. “Please come home…”

Inhale. Exhale. Jessica looked down biting her lips. She shook her head. “No,”

“Please Sooyeon, come home. We can talk about your little incident at home. Please, I beg you…” it was evident that tears were welling up in her mother’s eyes, but Jessica refused to even look at her. Taeyeon was feeling a little awkward.

“No. I refuse to go home. I will not go home only for you to tell me to kill my baby. I will only go home if you and dad support me and my decisions. That is all, if you excuse me I’m having dinner with the person who has always been there for me,” her voice was stern and cold. A side of Jessica that hasn’t shown in quite a while.

Taeyeon’s eyes widen and he looked away trying to hide his blush. The middle-aged woman looked at Taeyeon with sad eyes with a hint of some anger. He could only bow his head before turning to look at the blonde who now had cold dark eyes. Her face was stern and the glare she was emitting was a side he hasn’t really seen. The temperature in the room felt colder than usual.

Mrs. Jung stood there for a few seconds longer looking at her daughter. She heaved a long sigh before walking away, leaving Jessica to finally slump in her seat. Her companion looked at her with worry, noting the water welling up in her eyes. His hands slowly slide across the table to take hers and they mutually intertwined their fingers. He squeezed them, and at that instant Jessica felt at ease. She gave him a smile, a smile that he had never seen before and it took his breath away.

Neither of them could finish their meal so Taeyeon flagged down the waiter for their bill, however, their bill was graciously been paid for by Mrs. Jung. The young lad couldn’t help but sigh in relief. Getting their leftover box, Taeyeon helped Jessica put on her coat before they walked out the restaurant hand in hand with silence. Taeyeon was too afraid to speak up. He didn’t want to ruin the moment by saying something stupid.
