Chapter Nineteen

The Kiss

A small frown appeared as you watched Lay walk off down the hall. Your stomach twisted in a knot as a strange feeling came over you, like something just wasn’t right, you had to follow him. Lay was your friend and you cared about him a lot and recently Lay has had that unpleasant look in his eyes on more than one occasion. You weren’t going to stand by and watch him get hurt.

“I’ll be back in a second.” You quietly said to Mina and Eunhee, who nodded, too caught up with Kirs and the others to be too careful about what you were doing or where you were going.

You followed Lay who had already made it down the hall and had turned right to go up to the third floor. Throwing a quick glance behind you to make sure no one had noticed you were missing, you continued to follow Lay up the stairs. Your steps were quiet and your breathing was calm, you didn’t exactly know why you were being so secretive but it had just turned out that way.

You grew confused when you reached the final step, looking to your left and right only to notice that Lay was nowhere to be found. Just an empty corridor with doors leading to who knows where.

You stood there for a moment, debating on what you should do next. Well, it’s not like I can stand here all day. You had one last look around when an in particular door caught your eye. It was opened a little bit but it looked dark inside, you grew weary, but decided to head for that door anyway.

He should be in here, right? You reached the door and there was no noise on the other side of it, you swallowed and lightly tapped.

“Hello- GAH!” You jumped with a terrified scream as a hand suddenly pulled you inside the dark room.

Lay flicked the light on, “Shhhh! Calm down!”

You placed a hand over your frantic heart, feeling it beat out of control from Lay’s sudden appearance. You slapped his arm, “What was that for?!”

“I could ask you the same thing,” Lay said as he took a step back from you, “Why are you following me around so suspiciously?”

“I was worried about you- is this your room?” You asked as you finally took in your surroundings of a very lavish room. Everything was so neat and clean, there was not a speck of dust to be found and there was not a single pencil out of place. You let out a low whistle, “You got quite the set up here, don’t you?” You gazed around his room, from the big double bed that had a grey, black and green theme to the study desk in the corner of his room.

Lay raised an eyebrow, “Worried about me? Why?” He asked, your attention finally back on him rather than his furniture.

“I’ve been watching you,” You said lightly.

“Watching me?”

“Yeah,” A small frown began to form, “Somethings bothering you lately. I can see it.”

Lay chuckled. Too cute. “How did you notice?”

You scoffed, “I’ve spying on you since you first came here, remember? I’ve always been watching you. Even if I didn’t know it was actually you…” You trailed off, confused by your own words. “Anyway.” You shook your head as Lay waited patiently with an amused smile. “What’s up? What’s got you so uncomfortable?”

Lay his lips as he deliberated whether should be completely honest with you or not. “Well, you see…” He started, a bit nervously as he averted your concerned gaze. “Luhan is getting on my nerves.”

“Oh,” You smiled, “Did you lose a yu-gi-oh battle or something?” You joked with a laugh but stopped when you saw that Lay wasn’t amused. “Sorry.” You said curtly, “Continue.”

Lay sighed, “You like him.”

You started to feel a bit uneasy. Where is this going? “Ah…” You smiled nervously, “Yeah, I do. Everyone knows it already, right?”

Lay nodded in agreement. “That’s true,” He said seriously, “But he’s going to hurt you. And I don’t want him to do that, because I like you.”

Your smile slowly vanished as you were left feeling a bit confused. “Hurt me? Hurt me how? And like…?” You swallowed nervously, your throat suddenly feeling dry, “Like as in like or are we talking friendship or-”

“I’ve been in love with you since the first time you spied on me while I was dancing. Even before that I would watch you sometimes.” Lay stated strictly, walking towards you to entangle his hand in yours.

You couldn’t look in him in the eye, you were firmly staring at the floor as your hand trembled in his. This can’t be happening. This isn’t happening. Lay softly squeezed your hand to try and gain a response out of you as the silence was beginning to worry him. You took small deep breathes as you tried to collect your muddled and severely confused thoughts. Lay was Luhan’s friend. Lay was your friend. You hadn’t even once considered him as a love option until you were forced to three minutes ago. Your heart and your head were screaming out to say something but you just couldn’t make a sound. This was happening too fast, too soon, and most of all- too sudden.

You tried to muster up as much courage as you could, “Love is a serious word, Lay. Don’t just throw it around meaninglessly.” Your tone was serious, somet
