Fate: The First Meeting

Oh. My. God.

Seungyoon became restless when he remembered that he hadn’t called Jinwoo back.

“I’m very, very sure that he’ll be mad at me!”

He took out his iPhone from the pocket and dialled his cousin’s number.

“Or, Jinwoo hyung was already mad at me like crazy!”

The phone rang but nobody picked up the call.

“Jinwoo hyung, don’t be like this! Please pick up your phone!”

Then, a woman’s voice could be heard at the end of the line.

“Yeoboseyo?”

“Is this Aunty Kim?”

Seungyoon guessed as he could recognize that husky voice of hers.

“Seungyoon? Are you Kang Seungyoon, my nephew?”

Definitely, it was Aunty Kim.

Bingo!

“Ya, Kang Seungyoon! When are you going to come home?”

He sighed.

It had been some times that he had been shouted at.

“Hi, Aunty Kim. I miss you. I promise I will go back to Seoul next week.”

“Good, and make sure that you will keep that promise. I put my trust on you, Seungyoon.”

He could hear his aunt was sobbing out of sudden and there was no other reason for that.

“I miss you, Seungyoon-ah. Neomu neomu bogoshipo.”

He knew it.

Aunty Kim was his late mother’s older sister, who had become like his own mother since he was little.

She also considered him as her own son, besides Jinwoo.

“I miss you too, Aunty Kim. By the way, is Jinwoo hyung there?”

“I’m sorry, dear. He’s not at home. He had gone to Hanam and forgot to bring his phone along.”

Hanam?

What for?

Seungyoon was thinking of the possible reason why Jinwoo would go to Hanam.

As far as he knew, Jinwoo didn’t have any relatives there.

Except for his grandparents that passed away many years ago.

Maybe he went to one of his friends’ house. Who knows?

“Do you want to leave a message for him?”

“Too bad to hear that. It’s okay, Aunty Kim. I’ll give him another call later.”

“Okay, dear. Take good care of yourself. And don’t forget to send my regards to your father.”

“I will. Thank you, Aunty Kim. See you soon.”

Taehyun stared blankly at the tombstone.

Seo Hanam.

1945-2015.

May your soul will rest in peace.

Amen.

It was like a dream for him to see his grandma’s name was carved on the tombstone.

It felt like it was only yesterday he lived with his grandma.

14 years.

It was not a short period of time that he had been together with his grandma.

“Rest in peace, grandma.”

He was trying hard to accept that his grandma had gone forever.

Thanks to Uncle Park, he got the chance to visit her grave even though he didn’t get to see her face for the last time.

He pulled out a white rose from his back pocket and placed it on the tombstone.

“I love you so much, grandma. I always do.”

Tears slowly rolled down on his cheeks and he buried his head in his hands.

He then burst into tears as he couldn't contain his emotion any longer.

A few minutes later, a silhouette could be seen walking from behind.

“Hey, gwenchana?”

Taehyun lifted up his head and saw a boy standing right in front of him.

He appeared to be at the same age as him or a bit older.

“Yeah, I’m okay.”

He stood up and wiped away the tears.

“Don’t worry. I bet your beloved one is already in heaven. I’m sure that she didn’t want to see you being sad.”

That boy then took a look at Taehyun’s grandma’s tombstone.

Taehyun forced himself to smile, as he didn't want to be mistaken as a rude person.

“I couldn’t see any of your relatives or family members around.”

That boy looked to the left and right, but couldn’t find anyone near.

“Do you live alone?”

Taehyun became speechless and didn’t respond to any of the questions.

“Okay then. I better keep going. Before that, could I get your phone number?”

That boy searched for his phone inside his jeans’ pocket but couldn't find it.

“Oh crap. I might leave it somewhere. Nevermind.”

He then took out a pen and wrote something on Taehyun’s palm.

“This is my number. If you got anything to ask, feel free to call me.”

Taehyun nodded and stared at his palm.

“If you want, I can give you a job and also a place to stay. If you were interested, do call me!”

That boy waved him goodbye before leaving.

Taehyun then looked up and smiled.

“Grandma, thank you.”
