THE SADDEST MAN IN THE WORLD - Chapter Eleven

Seven Incarnations

The two kids were almost asleep when they came back from their winter themed date. Kim had to carry Lilly up to her room. Gerald meanwhile bullied the very sleepy Thomas upstairs to his bedroom. Kim and Gerald parted with each other with a smile. Kim let out a big sigh as she closed the door behind her.

IT was still raining heavily outside and lightning flashed almost every five minutes. Every time the obligatory thunder crashes, Kim’s heart jumps from the angry boom. She had never fully outgrown her own childhood fear of the thunder, despite the brave face she often puts up.

Kim slowly tucked Lilly in her bed, careful not to wake her up. Seeing that the young girl has left all her cares with the world, Kim got up and readied herself for bed. She took a quick shower, brushed her teeth and tucked herself in beside her now snoring sister. She tried to close her eyes but her thoughts have no plans of letting her sleep. Every time her eyelids shut down, thoughts of Gerald’s princely face come swirling into her senses. His striking visage came swooping down to give her a kiss; her vision was so vivid, it was almost like she could touch him. She found herself pouting her lips, kissing an imaginary vision of him. Kim sat up in disgust. She must be losing her mind.

She hastily put on her fluffy slippers and head downstairs to get herself some warm milk. Her mom used to tell her that if she ever had difficulty sleeping, warm milk does the trick. Like most things she believed in, she followed it blindly, without ever questioning its logic.

She got some boxed fresh milk out of the stainless steel fridge. She poured a glassful in a small sauce pan and patiently warmed it on the stove. She could have microwaved it and saved herself the time, but it was another thing she didn’t believe. She was so against microwaving food.

When her milk-warming procedure was done, she headed back upstairs. As she walked by the landing, she saw that the basement lights were on. Knowing that it was most probably Gerald, Kim slowly headed down the stairs. There, she found him watching a US sitcom with a glazed look over his eye.

“Can’t sleep?” Kim called out.

Gerald looked back, “Hello, I’m back to my sleepless routine...”

“The last two days you’ve been sleeping really well that I thought you might have made that insomnia story up...” Kim smiled back at him.

“Well, that was because I was with you,” Gerald answered matter-of-factly. “Somehow, sleeping comes naturally to me when I’m with you...”

“I don’t know whether that’s a compliment or not...” Kim said sardonically.

“Believe me, it’s a compliment...”Gerald said, then tapping the space beside him on the couch, “Come, sit down, keep me company...wait, is that warm milk on your hand?”

“Yes...” Kim said with a raised eyebrow. “You want some? I could make you one...”

“No, I like the one in your hand...” Gerald answered.

Kim gleefully slumped on the cozy sofa, close enough beside him that she could smell the clean soapy scent his skin emanated. HE must have showered just now, Kim inferred.

“Please...” Gerald begged her to give him some milk. “just a sip...”

“You’re such a baby!” Kim laughed as she made him take a sip of her drink. Her laughter became uncontrollable that her hand shook. Gerald had to place his hand over hers to keep them steady. The mere contact of their skin made Kim quiver. When he surfaced, he had a milk moustache that Kim happily cleaned up with her knuckle.

“You have a moustache...” she explained.

“Thanks,” Gerald said sheepishly. “It really is delicious...”

“The milk?” Kim made sure.

“NO, the whole drinking from your hands thing...it was fabulous!” Gerald answered smartly. “Of course...it’s the milk!”

“I was just asking...grouch!” Kim replied with a laugh.

For a minute, they just sat there staring at each other. Kim wasted her time watching how gorgeous his lips were. Gerald meanwhile contemplated how y her filmy pyjamas top come tantalizingly close to revealing a part of her cleavage. HE had to force himself to look at her face instead, which of course, was a happier proposition considering how beautiful she was.

“What are you watching?” Kim asked, diverting his gaze.

“Oh, I was with my friends...” he answered.

Kim paused for a minute. Then, she looked up the wide screen TV. Then, she understood what he meant. “Oh, you mean FRIENDS... I love this show...”

“Me too....I could literally spend hours watching them...” said Gerald. “Who’s your favourite character?”

“In the beginning I thought I was a Rachel...” Kim explained. “Later on, I realized, with my OCD tendencies and all, I think I am more of a Monica now. How about you?”

“I was a Chandler all throughout!” Gerald said.

“I like Chandler the most among the guys!” Kim admitted happily. “I really love his one-liners...”

“I am glad...because it’s Chandler and Monica that ended up with each other...” Gerald chuckled. “Another sign that we’re meant to be...”

Kim could not find any smart retort to his observation. Gerald, feeling she was a bit taken aback, diverted the subject back to the episode that they were watching.

“This episode is one of the bests...Ross’ wedding....” Gerald said. “What do you know! This is the first episode where Monica and Chandler hooked up...”

Kim ignored his last banter, though it made an impact on her.

“Their jokes never get old, no matter how many times you watched them.” Kim added non-committedly.

“Exactly the thought I have in mind!” Gerald agreed. “I have the whole ten seasons of them, and no matter how many times I’ve seen most of the episodes...they seemed funnier each time...”

“Frankly, I’ve never met anybody who has watched them that relentlessly...” Kim admitted with a warm smile.

“I am not that obsessive about them,” said Gerald. “I just find them comforting to watch, especially on my down days...”

“Why, are you feeling down?” Kim said in alarm. She never would have thought that he was feeling somewhat sad. An hour ago, he seemed really happy with her company.

“Oh no! It has nothing to do with you...” Gerald assured her, sensing that she was somewhat bothered. “If you are like me who’s been too sad for too long, you just get used to being down a lot of the times...one minute you’re happy, the next minute you’re sad. I wish I could explain it better, but that’s just the way it is...”

“Here I was, under the impression, that we are making strides...but I guess not...” Kim replied disappointingly.

Gerald held her hand to give her the reassurance that she needed. “Kimmy, we are making strides. I am much happier now than I could ever remember in a long while...you’re like my happy pill...”

“But then...” Kim said obstinately.

“Kim, it’s just me...it’s natural for me to be sad. I have lots of moments that I just can’t explain why I am like this...” Gerald squeezed. “but the most important thing is we are doing something about it...and that now you are on my side to help me...I am very positive that soon, these sad times will go away...”

Kim smiled. Gerald touched her nose. After a few languid seconds of just looking in each other’s eyes, Gerald slowly moved his head closer to Kim’s. Kim moved slightly backward but Gerald caught her chin with his index finger. HE slowly cupped her chin towards him. Kim followed his bidding. She closed her eyes in the anticipation of his warm kiss.

Suddenly, a really loud obtrusive thunder sounded. IT was so loud that the basement almost shook from its wake.

“Mommy!”

IT was Thomas. He has managed to make his way down the basement without the two of them noticing. He had his hands on his ears, his Sponge-Bob Squarepants stuff toy lying on his feet.

“Tommy...” Gerald groaned at the little boy’s intrusion. He was that close to losing it again with Kim. He cursed under his breath, “I should teach you how to knock, boy...”

Kim heard what he said and she smiled back at him. She then readily went over to where the little boy was standing and knelt down and hugged him.

“You can’t sleep, honey?” Kim asked.

Little Thomas shook his head.

“Is it because of the storm?” Kim said.

Thomas nodded. His little body was still shaking from the fright.

“Why is Mr. Thunder so angry all the time?” his young voice squeaked.

“He is not angry, sweetie...” said Kim. “Mr. Thunder actually is feeding all the plants with his giant voice. The louder he is...the more plants will be growing...”

“Really?” It was actually Gerald who was curious. “How is that possible? All the while I thought Mr. Thunder was just playing bowling...”

“Silly daddy...” Thomas said.

“It’s true...” Kim continued. “When there is thunder and lightning, plants grow better. Whenever a lightning flashes...it releases Nitrogen into the air...plants need the nitrogen to grow...”

“Wow, Kim...I didn’t know you are such a science wiz...” Gerald beamed at Kim. He was amazed.

“Well, I am not really that smart...I just tend to watch discovery channel a lot!” Kim revealed. “Besides, there are lots of things that you don’t know about me...”

“I’m very excited to discover them...”Gerald said with a wide grin. “Don’t worry...I’ll get there sooner than you think...by then, I’ll know you through and through...”
Kim blushed.

All throughout their exchange, Thomas was eyeing them oddly. It was as if he was about to say... “Hey guys, I knew you like each other, but could we just get the focus back to me here...I am the one who almost wet the bed in fright...”

“Oh, Thomas...where am I?” Kim switched back to the little boy. “See, honey, the plants will grow better if Mr. Thunder and Mr. Lightning do their thing. The louder Mr. Thunder roars and the brighter Mr. Lightning flashes...the happier are our plants...”

Thomas looked back at Kim disbelievingly. “Is that true?” He then, switched his gaze to his Dad. “Daddy, is that true...”

“Yes, Tommy. It’s true. Mommy Kim is smarter than daddy. She knows all of these wierd things...”Gerald regaled back to his boy. “You can even ask her why our dog Sneakers likes to sniff our neighbor’s dog’s !”

Kim gave Gerald an incredulous look.

“Yes, Mommy...why do dogs like to smell each other’s ?” Thomas asked, following his dad remark.

Gerald cracked a hearty laugh. “I was so bummed out last week why I could not answer that question...”

“Come on, Thomas!” Kim ignored Gerald’s laughing. “Let’s go to bed...I’ll read you a story, if you like. Let’s leave the -sniffing for tomorrow, okay?"

Thomas obediently nodded.

Kim immediately led him up the stairs, leaving Gerald in hysterics. In Thomas’ bedroom, Kim lay beside him as she read him his favourite book. It was P.D. Eastman’s “Are you my mother?”

Kim could not help but feel for Thomas, as the story of a little lost bird, hit too close to home for him. Every word in that simple book hits sharply at Kim’s heart. As she was reading to him how the little bird fell from the nest, tears started to fall from her eyes. It was especially hard for her to read to him the parts where the little bird was asking everyone around him, if they were his mother. She felt that Thomas was like that little bird...he was struggling to find his way back home. Kim began to think, what if, like in the book, she wasn’t the mother for him? What if she was just one of the other random strangers he asked? Somebody not meant to nurture him? A lot of disconcerting thoughts entered her mind. The biggest one thereof...Was she capable enough to be Thomas’ mother?

A few minutes later, Gerald came in the room, catching Kim almost bawling now. She blew her nose on a piece of tissue she had on the bed side table.

“What is that you’re reading...I thought it was a children’s book?” Gerald asked, laying himself down on the end of the bed, by their feet. He looked at them fondly from the light glow of the bedside lamp. He was especially intrigued at how Kim was getting all misty.

Kim hastily put the book down and wiped away the tears. “It’s such a sad story...let’s change it.”

Thomas nodded. He immediately took off and grabbed a book from a small bookshelf on one side of his bed. When he came back, he had a small picture book about Christmas. He immediately jumped on to the bed, slightly disturbing Gerald, who looked like he was finally getting sleepier by the minute. A few seconds later he was snoring.

“Do you like this book?” Kim asked, perusing quickly through the pages.

Thomas smiled and said, “IT’s one of my favourites...It’s about Santa Claus giving toys to kids....”

“Do you think Santa will give you a gift this year?” Kim asked him.

“Yes, Mommy...” Thomas answered.

“Have you been a good boy?” Kim said.

“Yes, of course!” said Thomas confidently. “I even got my gift already...”

“Really? What did you ask from Santa this year?” Kim asked once more.

Thomas hugged her immediately. “A mommy....”

Kim heaved out a sigh as she hugged him tightly. If only Thomas knew how much she wanted to be just that. But right now, she wasn’t sure with herself if she could do it. She had never been anyone’s mommy before. She didn’t have a handbook to use as a guide to process all her feelings. All she knows is, if she was indeed his Christmas wish, she should do everything she can to fulfill such role. But it meant that, to be Thomas’ real mom, she had to be Gerald’s wife. That’s actually the fact that made her much more nervous.
.
.
.
Kim woke up the next morning alone on Thomas’ bed. She groaned as the sun came blazing on her face. She immediately thought of putting curtains on their huge windows. She sat up straight. The room was big like any other rooms. It was clean and clutter free but it lacked the feminine touch. Kim made a mental note on how she was to rearrange the furniture and how to redecorate each room once she becomes a permanent settler...if that was ever going to happen...

As she stretched her arms out, her eyes fell on the very large stuff toy at the foot of the bed. Kim almost yelped until she realized it was just a harmless cute teddy bear. ON its lap was a letter which says, “READ ME.” Beside the huge teddy bear were a small whiteboard and a black marker. Kim went for the letter first. It read:
.
.
.
Dear Kim,

Like I mentioned yesterday...I have to say ten thousand I Love You’s to you by the end of the day. Beside Teddy are a marker and board for you to keep track. Thanks.

Gerald

“What the heck is he thinking now?!” Kim groaned.

Even if he explained to her briefly the plan for the day, Kim was still curious why and how things shall unfold. Kim excitedly made her way to her own bathroom to shower. She was almost ripping through her clothes in haste. After her very, very quick shower, she made her way down the stairs in a pair of casual jeans and a pretty pink blouse.

She found all three of them on the kitchen, all showered and clean. They were joyfully sharing a healthy breakfast.

“Good morning, ate!” Lilly greeted her first.

Thomas then greeted her, but his mouth was filled with cereals that it sounded really funny. Kim went around and gave the two kids a kiss on the cheeks.

She then sat on her chair and met Gerald’s gaze. There was a hint of excitement in his eyes too. He swallowed his last bit of pancake like it was his last. He then finished the rest of his orange juice in one giant gulp.

“Now what?” Kim said.

“Are you ready?” Gerald asked, his smile as wide as ever. He then stretched out his arms, then proceeded to flexing them. He looked like he was to embark in some insane feat of physical strength.

“By ready, you mean this?” Kim asked, showing him her white board and marker.

“Yes...I’m ready on your command...” Gerald said.

“Wait! Could you explain to me why we are doing this again?” Kim asked.

“Well, like I said. IT’s something that I needed to do to convince you...that what I’m trying to say is sincere...” said Gerald.

“But I didn’t say that I doubted any of what you said...” Kim reasoned.

“I just would like to get it out there...to say it to the world....besides, it’s one way for you to find out that what I’m saying is true....” Gerald explained.

“How certain are you that I’ll believe it?” Kim said with much consternation.

“By then of the day, there are two things I can guarantee myself. One, you can no longer deny to anybody that I have indeed said that you. You can’t even say that it fell on deaf ears, because with Ten thousand I Love You’s...one of them will certainly get to you. Secondly, I fervently hope that by the end of the day, you will finally believe me...that I, in fact, love you...”

Kim was silent. Deep inside she wanted to tell him that she didn’t need him to say 10,000 I love you’s for her to believe him. Right now she believed him already. But somehow, Kim felt that he needed to go through this exercise. IT was his way of making up for his past mistakes. It was his way to assure himself that Kim was hearing him....that she was listening. It was like a self-inflicted sacrifice that he needed to go through. She really felt for him.

“I really like my chances, Kim....” Gerald added with a weak smile. “I mean, out of those ten-thousand, I’m pretty sure you’ll believe one of them...”

Kim sighed.

“Who knows, by the end of this thing, Kim....you’ll be answering to me an ‘I Love You’ of your own...” Gerald said, raising both his eyebrows mischievously.

“Don’t bet on ten thousand...” Kim quipped.

“Oh, I don’t need ten thousand, Kim...” Gerald said. “All I need is one...”

Kim smiled once more. He was such a talker.

“Come on, enough talk. Let’s get this show on the road...” Kim said, challenging him.

“Okay, here goes...” Gerald said. “I love you, I love you, I love you....”

Gerald, almost without breathing, then went on an “I Love You” spree...

Thomas and Lilly looked oddly at Gerald. Kim meanwhile was busy counting down his I Love You’s...

“Why is daddy saying I love you like a mad man?” asked Thomas.

“Can’t you see Tommy?” said Lilly smart-assly. “Your daddy is professing his love to my Ate.”

“Then why does he have to say it many times?” Thomas grumbled curiously.

“IT’s the way it is, Thomas...” said Lilly, clutching her hand giddily close to her heart. “That’s how older people who are in love do it...Don’t worry, Thomas...you’ll understand how it is to be in love once you experience it....”

“You mean I have to do that too?” Thomas said.

“If you want to win a girl, YES!” Lilly said with glee.

.
.
.

Gerald meanwhile was almost out of breath. He managed to squeeze in a few words in between barrages of “I love you’s...”

“How am I doing?” said Gerald, taking time to swallow some saliva to relieve his drying throat.

“Five hundred sixty...so far!” Kim said, looking down on her whiteboard.

“Only that much? It feels like it might take forever to finish this...” Gerald said.

“Well, we’ve only been at it half an hour...” Kim said,
taking note of the time.

“Really? I must get on with it then...” Gerald said, after hastily downing some water.

“Yep, you should...stop talking nonsense and get on with it...” said Kim, doing some math on her head. Since they started almost lunchtime, he needed about two thousand I love you’s by the hour till sunset.

“Okay, back to work....” Gerald said, sitting on a stool in front of Kim’s face, staring her down with his piercing gaze... “I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you....”

“Stop staring at me like that...” Kim protested, making marks on her whiteboard.

“Why?” Gerald said briefly. “I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you....”

“I can’t concentrate...” Kim said.

“That’s the purpose,” Gerald smiled. “I wanted to screw your counting so that I can finish sooner... I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you....”

“Shhhh....conserve your voice...” said Kim, playfully.

“Yes, maam...” Gerald said with a mock salute. “I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you....”

.
.
.

At first it was fun. But by the time they reached the afternoon, it was more like agony. It started to take a toll on Gerald’s voice. His throat was so dry, that his voice sounded really hoarse. Kim wanted to stop him but he was determined to finish it.

“How many more?” Gerald asked in his husky voice. “I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you...”

“A thousand more to go...” Kim replied, her total now reaching nine thousand.

“Good...” Gerald said. “I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you....”

Kim looked at him with pride. He was so determined to do this for himself...and for her too; though she knows it was more for his benefit than hers. She had so much respect for him now. He was unlike most man she had met. He was different.

“What are you thinking?....I love you, I love you, I love you...” asked Gerald.

“Nothing...I was just thinking what I did to deserve this attention...” Kim said in all honesty.

“Just being your beautiful you...” he said courtly, beaming at her. “I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you....”

“You always know what to say and when to say it...” Kim admitted.

“Well, I’m a man of a few words...” said Gerald ironically. “...and I only say what I really mean... I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you....”

.
.
.

An hour later, they were almost done... The race has now shifted on whether Gerald’s voice can make it to the finish line. They were back at the kitchen, agonizingly waiting for the completion of the brazen task...

“Come on...fifty more to go!” Kim egged him on excitedly.

Gerald’s voice was so hoarse, it was painful to hear him speak. Yet, he went at it in reckless abandon. The kids were at his side, also trying to motivate him.

“I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you....” Gerald said.

“Go, daddy! Come on, faster...” said Thomas.

“Tito Ge, faster...” said Lilly.

“I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you...” Gerald said, his eyes wincing from the pain.

Kim didn’t realize up to now how much harder it was turning out to be. Seeing Gerald grimace like that made her uncomfortable. It made her cringe at the thought that she was responsible for this. Gerald had so much wanted to prove to her that he meant what he said, that here he was, flinching at every I love you that emanated from his mouth.

Kim felt guilty. She was even encouraging him earlier! She was fully responsible for his misery. IT made her really feel mortified. Shamefaced as she was, at the back of her mind, she thought it was really flattering that he was doing it for her.... and just for her alone.

He was so close now. Kim held her breath.

“I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you.....” Gerald recited.

“Ten more...” Kim announced.

“I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you...” With the last few ones, Gerald was enunciating each word slowly and clearly. It was as if he was meaning each and every word.

“I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you...”Gerald said, pausing briefly at the end.

Kim and the kids held their breaths. Thomas was struggling to count using his stubby, uncoordinated fingers. Gerald was down to one more.

Suddenly, he hastily got up of his seat. He made his way to fridge.

“One more...” Kim said in a low voice.

Gerald turned around and revealed what momentarily took his attention away from the task. He had on his hand a long-stemmed red rose. He slowly made his way to Kim, who was sitting on the kitchen counter. He stopped in front of her and looked directly into her eyes.

“This final one means to me the most...” Gerald croaked. “Kim...I love you....”

She was so overwhelmed that she hugged him. The two kids jumped in glee. For some reason, Kim felt tears fall from her eyes. She was overwrought with emotions that she herself could not speak. She just hugged him with all her might. What he had done was no ordinary feat in her book. IT was the most chivalrous thing anybody has done for her. In fact, for her, it was the most chivalrous thing anybody has done for anybody in the history of chivalry...period.

“Did you really mean each and every one of that ten-thousand?” Kim asked.

Despite the ten-thousand I Love You’s she just heard...it seemed like she needed more validity from him. She can’t get enough from hearing them from him. The more he complied, the happier she became.

“Every...last one of them...” Gerald answered hoarsely.

Kim smiled at him, then quickly giving him a quick peck on the lips. “That’s your prize...You really did good, honey...you really did good...”

He mouthed, “Thank you...”

That’s when he had lost all of his voice.

.
.
.

They spent the rest of the evening lounging on the den. They watched one movie after another. Since, it was Thomas and Gerald’s play night too, he later allowed them to make a mess out of the basement. Thomas took out all of his toys for Lilly to play with. All four of them played endlessly till the wee hours of the morning. All that time, Kim didn’t allow Gerald to speak. His voice was so hoarse, it was horrible. He carried with him the whiteboard and uses it to communicate with them; but most especially to Kim since the two kids were too slow to read. They played until the kids got sleepy. Kim took both kids up and tucked them to bed.

After making sure that the kids were asleep, Kim went back downstairs to check on her patient. She had given Gerald ginger tea for him to drink. By the time she got there, she found him watching a movie without the sounds on.

“What are you doing?” Kim asked.

Gerald wrote: “I wondered what it was to be deaf-mute.”

Kim laughed. Gerald smiled back at her.

“How are you doing so far?” Kim asked.

Gerald scribbled some words quickly. “It’s very hard...”

“Why?” Kim said out of the blue.

Gerald groaned at the prospect of having to explain his answer. He wiped his slate clean and wrote...

“It’s hard to not be able to say what you want to say to somebody...” He quickly erased somebody and changed it to "you."

“But, you spent the whole afternoon saying them to me!” Kim answered cheerily.

Gerald once again scrawled something on his whiteboard. “I have more to express than just I love you’s...”

“Write them down then?” Kim said.

“Don’t have enough space...” Gerald scribbled away.

Kim’s eyes widened and said, “Find other ways to express them then...”

Gerald thought for a second. Then, his eyes glimmered as an idea came to his mind. He wrote to her... “Can I ask you a question?”

Kim nodded.

Gerald then stood up and hastily went to the big stereo player. He placed a CD on it and blasted out a song. It was an old Corr’s song. Gerald faced Kim, a big grin on his face as the lyrics hit Kim...

(CORRS: Lyrics) “What can I do to make you love me? What can I do to make you care? What can I do to make feel this? What can I do to get you there?...”

Kim smiled as she understood the game he was trying to play. She stood up and went through his CD collection. She saw one that would fit and quickly inserted a CD into another player. Through the song, she gave him his answer.

(BOYZONE: Lyrics) “Everybody's so mixed up about love these days, and everybody's trying to work it out in different ways, I don't really need to know your aspirations, What I need from you babe, Is good conversation, To put my mind at ease...”

Gerald exploded in fits...he quickly wrote on his board. “Boyzone?”

“Hey, it was the best I could find from your limited collection...” said Kim, chortling. “Besides, I love Ronan Keating...eventhough the song is obscure...”

Gerald quickly stood up and once more perused his CD tray. He picked one up and blasted out the lyrics he wanted her to hear. He grew more serious this time...

(CHICAGO: Lyrics) If you leave me now, you’ll take away the biggest part of me...No...baby please dont go... If you leave me now, you’ll take away the very heart of me...No, baby please dont go...cause I want you to stay...

“I will not go away...” she said to him with a half-smile. Kim slowly made her way to the CD player. Then she put on a CD of her own. When she faced him she said, “I’ve got something to say to you too...”

(DIDO: Lyrics)... and I.... want to thank you, for giving me the best day of my life, Oh just to be with you
is having the best day of my life...

Gerald faced her now with a bit more delight on his face. Kim felt all warm fuzzy. Every time he smiles at her she could feel a tingle from the tips of her hair to the tips of her toes.

Gerald immediately went back to the player and put on another song.

IT was Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On... Gerald naughtily looked back at Kim, his eyebrows raised mischievously...

(MARVIN GAYE: Lyrics) I've been really tryin', baby...Tryin' to hold back this feelin' for so long
And if you feel like I feel, baby...Then come on, oh, come on. Whoo, let's get it on... Ah, babe, let's get it on...Let's love, baby...Let's get it on, sugar...Let's get it on...Whoo-ooh-ooh

Kim laughed incessantly. “That is so cheesy...but believe me, I have an answer for that.”

Kim went back to the CD rack and picked out the song she wanted to play. She glanced back at Gerald. The music flowed smoothly.

(FREESTYLE: Lyrics) Let's take it slow (so slow), Anywhere you wanna go...Baby for you, I'll lay it all on the line...You oughtta know (oughtta know)...Boy I ain't got nowhere to go...I'll give it to you, only to you...
We gotta take it real slow...

Gerald smiled back. He wrote on his board. “What about this?”

(BOYZ2MEN: Lyrics)
Close your eyes, make a wish
And blow out the candlelight
For tonight is just your night
We're gonna celebrate, all thru the night
Pour the wine, light the fire
Girl your wish is my command
I submit to your demands
I'll do anything, girl you need only ask

I'll make love to you
Like you want me to
And I'll hold you tight
Baby all through the night
I'll make love to you
When you want me to...
And I will not let go
Till you tell me to....

Gerald smiled proudly at his selection. He faced Kim who is now red all over. She immediately ran to the CD player to change it . She picked out a Janet Jackson song...

(JANET JACKSON: Lyrics)
There's something I want to tell you
There's something I think that you should know
It's not that I shouldn't really love you
Let's take it slow

When we get to know each other
And we're both feeling much stronger
Then let's try to talk it over
Let's wait awhile longer

Let's wait awhile before it's too late
Let's wait awhile before we go too far

*******

Kim smiled back at him.

Gerald immediately scribbled on his board. “No harm in Trying...” He shrugged his shoulders like a ten-year-old, that Kim burst into laughter.

Gerald then wrote again on his board... “What do you suggest we do now?”

Kim immediately went to the stereo. With trembled hands she put on a song... A few beats into the song, Gerald’s eyes lit up.

As the familiar melodic bars of the song’s introduction played on, Gerald looked at Kim with his eyes as wide as saucers. He immediately wrote on his whiteboard, “Really, are you sure?”

Kim smiled at him. Then, she nodded. Gerald ran over to the couch where she was. He threw his white board in the air as he dove for her.

“Is this waiting a while?” he said in a low grumble.

“Will you ever shut up?” Kim answered.

“I will now...” Gerald said with a smile as he lay on top of her.

The song played on, and they willingly enacted the lyrics...

(SIXPENCE NONE THE RICHER: Lyrics)
Kiss me out of the bearded barley
Nightly, beside the green, green grass
Swing, swing, swing the spinning step
You wear those shoes and I will wear that dress.

[Chorus:]
Oh, kiss me beneath the milky twilight
Lead me out on the moonlit floor
Lift your open hand
Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance
Silver moon's sparkling
So...kiss me...

I know it’s another songfic...I vowed to myself never ever to make another one, but I just can’t help it. How are you guys liking it? Tempted as I am to include a lot more scenes in it, I have to cut out parts that had been done before. I am just trying to create something unique for the two of them. Hopefully I did them justice...more to come for day 5 ---

Birthday...is the theme.
