The Court of Rogues
A tear trickled down your cheek as Kibum left the room. It was too much to bear right now. You sank to your knees next to Donghae’s bed. “Oh, oppa, please wake up soon,” you whispered, gazing down at his face. “Please, please wake up. I need a friend right now.” You felt a gentle hand grasping your shoulder and pulling you upright. Startled, you looked up into Kyuhyun’s soft brown eyes.
He smiled at you nervously. “I- I know I haven’t been a very good friend to you, ----------, but... let me be here for you now.”
And he grasped your hand and pulled you into an embrace.
You were startled at first, but soon relaxed as he held you. The tears started, slowly at first, but before you knew it, you were weeping openly into his shoulder. He only hugged you tighter. You couldn’t explain it, the feeling that welled up inside you as you sought shelter in his arms. You just felt... complete.
You stayed like this for a while.
Then, a whisper... so soft that you could barely hear it. “Hey... did I... give you my... permission?”
You broke from Kyuhyun’s embrace, turning towards the bed. There was your fishie, your always smiling best friend, Lee Donghae. He gazed at you with eyes that were barely open, and he definitely looked in pain, but still managed to smile a little.
“Oppa!” you cried in sudden joy. “Donghae oppa, you’re awake!”
Kyuhyun looked down, smiling too. “How are you feeling?”
“Like I got hit... by a ton of concrete.”
“That’s pretty much what happened,” Kyuhyun replied, grinning. “But you got through it okay.”
“Yeah...I-I think I’m getting better now. Still... so tired,” said Donghae, sleepily closing his eyes. They flew open a few seconds later. “Kyuhyun!” he rasped. “You... have to tell them... tell them that it was..... Kibum and Jaejoong... I saw them without... masks during... attack. --------- is innocent...” His eyes closed again, the effort of speaking tiring him for now.
“That’s one witness,” came a new voice from the entrance. You spun around as Yesung, Leeteuk, and Siwon came striding in.
“Wha...?”
“We came to see how Donghae was doing,” explained Siwon kindly, “and we happened to overhear him saying that it was Kibum and Jaejoong. But we need more concrete proof than that.”
“I don’t have anymore proof,” you replied bitterly. “Either you trust my word, or you do not.”
Kyuhyun cleared his throat. “I happen to have proof,” he announced. “I recently obtained a video from... a few Rogues who survived the raid in Pusan. Ryeowook should have decoded it by now.”
Leeteuk nodded. “At last. Shall we pay a visit to our techie, then?”
