Chapter 13 - Princess

Youngest of Pieces: Five Years in History (9)

“This will be the most awkward scene I’ll probably ever do,” Hannah laughs loudly to the staff at the apartment set for the drama ‘미스터와 미스’. She is sitting on a chair by a laptop in the apartment they film as her and Jaejoong’s place for the drama, sitting tailor in the chair and a hand on the laptop while talking and laughing with the staff and the director.

“Won’t the scene we are filming tomorrow more awkward then?” the director asks with a smirk, “When you will be tied up and beaten…”

“It will be awkward and embarrassing, but I have done that kind of scene before, this scene is more embarrassing,” Hannah can’t stop smiling when talking to them, worrying about today’s filming.

After coming back to Korea yesterday, Hannah had about three hours of rest before she went to the drama filming, where was at until one in the morning, she went home to get some sleep and has been on the set today since ten in the morning. Now she is the only one on set who will film, so without any of her co-workers around she feels she should be the one setting the mood and talk, which she does without much trouble as they are currently going through the scene she will film. They are filming for episode 8 already, while episode 3 airs on TV tonight. SBS airs the drama two days in a row, so on Wednesdays and Thursdays the drama airs around 10PM. Hannah watched a bit of yesterday’s episode when she was on the set (it’s fun depending on where they film they can actually watch the episode airing while filming) but it was just a few minutes.

Hannah is wearing a 58-print loose-fit sweater in wine red (it is really cosy, Hannah is thinking if she somehow can buy it when they are done) and a pair of shorts that aren’t really seen when she is standing up, and she is in socks, having bare legs and hair loose. For the scene they film today, Hannah’s character is supposed to be at home (the apartment) and she will let loose and dance around the apartment to some music as she is by herself. She will clean like that, and then she will put her hair up and begin to cook in the wait for her husband to come home, when she will be interrupted by some people trying to kidnap her but Hannah’s character is a secret agent so she sends a warning to her husband to not come home and later today they will film the scene of Hannah running without shoes away from the kidnappers – after a Japanese mission that they filmed just this past weekend, the bad guys will find out where they live and kidnap Hannah (she won’t be able to run away from them) and torture her to find out where the thing they stole is. It will be a lot of action, and to episode 9-10 it will be a lot about Hannah and Jaejoong’s relationship as he will try to save her but their agency won’t let him because he makes it too personal and so on. Hannah really looks forward to how the result will look like, but at the moment she is troubled because she is supposed to be dancing around in the apartment. That is what she thinks is awkward and embarrassing.

“Just choose the song you think will fit,” the director tells her.

They have created a list of songs she can choose between, some are Korean but there are actually a few international songs too. Hannah goes through every song, hears the staff comments’ and to a few she actually gets up on her feet to try move along to it, and eventually she chooses Ricky Martin’s [Livin’ La Vida Loca] because it is one of three songs she has actually heard before and she really likes to randomly dance along to it.

Hannah practices her scene, knowing where she is supposed to walk as if she is following a red thread through the room and the director tells her to just go from place A to B in the room while dancing and enjoying the music, pretend she is alone at home cleaning up and she is having fun. She needs the practice even if the director just told her to go with the feeling, but since they will be filming from many different sides it doesn’t really have to be a practice either, just a bunch of crazy clips of Hannah happily and freely dancing around. What the focus is on is a woman dancing freely; hips moving, hair flying, happily moving around with a female body, the usual thing that is what women can recognize themselves in and what men seem to like watching. Who does not dance to fun music when cleaning up at home, alone?

Hannah ends up laughing as soon as he says ‘cut’ between the takes, and she is so awkward that she hides her face and runs away hiding from the staff, making them all laugh with her shy behaviour but they tell her she is doing really good and compliments her while Hannah just stays embarrassed. Manager Lee probably has the best time among them all; he films her doing the scene of dancing around, filming from the back where he is standing with the staff and one time he almost ruins a scene by laughing.

The blonde girl is quite surprised when she looks at what they have filmed, at how fun she actually seems to have in the clips, dancing around and moving to the song.

“You should start having some faith in yourself, Hannah,” the female drama stylist Kang Min Na tells the girl while braiding her hair for the next scene.

Hannah just grimaces, the stylist laughing again to tell her she is cute.

The stylist doesn’t finish the braid, instead when it is long enough she holds it over Hannah’s shoulder for the youngest to hold it in both hands, to in the scene finish braiding it, and Hannah for that has to hold on to it until they will do the scene, but it is just a few minutes to that. Her arms get tired though, the blood leaves her hands and she is jumping right before they do the scene just to get occupied and energized. No matter what Hannah does between the takes, the staff always likes it, laughs at her for doing the weirdest things – for Hannah it isn’t weird at all, but she hangs out with 5 Pieces, so everything she does seem pretty normal.

In the scene she heads to the kitchen while finishing braiding her hair, starting to cook (which Hannah in reality can’t do but in the drama she looks like a professional) and it is also there she will be warned by the security that someone is coming.

Now having a braid hanging down her back, they film the scene of Hannah fighting in the apartment against these intruders. She uses the kitchenware to fight them, uses her knowledge in the apartment to fight and it is actually fun to get help by the directors and fight captain to do the whole scene. It is exciting and Hannah is actually jumping again between the scenes, being cute with the stuntmen playing the bad ones; they are all dressed up in black from top to toe like ninjas, doing these amazing stunts while Hannah uses kitchenware and it is really fun between the takes because once again the blonde girl is setting the mood. Though Hannah disappears now and then for her schedule with 5 Pieces (almost like every weekend) she has never worked with such a cheerful staff before; every day working with them is a lot of fun, she has such joy to work with these people. Yesterday, Maria had showed up when they all were at the set working, and she had brought her album along, all signed and pretty to hand out to the staff and thanking them for taking care of Hannah and hoping she isn’t too blonde at times for them. She is the perfect leader.

As soon as they are done shooting indoors, Manager Lee is standing with Hannah’s cell phone in one hand and something to eat in the other. Hannah takes the cell phone first, checking a text message when Manager Lee holds up the other hand for her to eat something.

“You are still in on giving me a ride later?” Hannah asks him, taking the food and a seat.

“I’m your baby-sitter; I need to make sure you come back to filming after dinner,” Manager Lee answers with a sigh. She is focusing too much on the cell phone, probably texting her boyfriend that there is no change in their plans.

Jonghyun got some time off, Hannah got some free time between her filming; they decided yesterday to go eat dinner today and Jonghyun just has to ask Hannah every other hour if she is excited or if she remembers it. It seems like it will be a great day; the filming is going just perfect, she is in a great mood and she is going to meet her boyfriend later, it just couldn’t be better at the moment.

The weather is good this Thursday afternoon; the sun is shining and the asphalt is warm when Hannah puts her feet on it, only wearing socks and no shoes. Again she is laughing, nervous that she is supposed to run down the street in the same clothes she wore indoors and she is supposed to run in a car belonging to the bad guys, getting caught though she was so close to get away. They do the scene over and over again, Hannah running along the street and then jogging back in embarrassment before she looks at the screen with the director at what they filmed.

What is weird with filming outdoor is that a crowd of curious citizens always gathers. As soon as they saw cameras and lightning being put up outside, they got curious to what was being filmed and lingered around on a distance; cheering when Hannah made her appearance on the street and staying to see her do her scene. The citizens watching are actually pretty good during the filming by staying quiet but when knowing no cameras are rolling they are shouting and showing support to Hannah and the drama.

Hannah smiles when the stylist wraps a blanket around her legs between the takes.

“Your style will be recognized, indeed,” the stylist jokes after hearing some guy complaining that Hannah is covering her legs. Hannah laughs at it.

“And you will be proud for dressing me,” Hannah rolls her eyes. Hannah’s character in this drama knows of her body, always wears clothes that one way or another show off her body the best possible way. In the two episodes of the drama that have aired so far (though she only made her appearance at the end of the first episode, not all too much in the second), her clothes have been fitting and feminine without revealing anything else but her legs. She has got good response for it; there is no need to wear little clothes to look good, and though Hannah is uncomfortable with the fitting clothes, it looks absolutely gorgeous on screen.

“You were doubting me in the beginning though,” the stylist comments with humour in her voice, and Hannah admits to that. She couldn’t hide her reaction when she first were trying clothes for the drama with the female stylist, but the stylist got her will through and it turned out to be a great thing. “I don’t blame you; I was a bit crazy for working with you, I admit that.”

“Not really crazy,” Hannah giggles, “Maybe a little eager.”

The stylist giggles too, patting Hannah friendly on the arm. “You’re too kind.”

Hannah laughs at the comment, smiling at the director who they walk up to.

Before continuing with the scene, Hannah sends a text message to Jonghyun, writing ‘I will be just a little late… sorry, I will try to hurry’

It takes more time to finish the outdoor scene than they all planned; Hannah doesn’t make any big mistakes when filming, it is just them turning the cameras to film this angle, that angle and some other things that takes out on the time. But as soon as it ends, Hannah thanks them all for their hard work, waving to the staff and laughing when saying she will meet them all in three hours (after dinner), and she almost runs to the van with her manager to get to the restaurant as fast as she can. She can’t help but to laugh on the way to the van at the citizens that have been watching the filming from afar who are now screaming at her hurrying away, some asking where she is going and others saying she looks pretty.

Getting inside the backseat on the van, Hannah actually begins to change clothes when they are out on the road. She hide behind the seat in the very back, treating the sponsored clothes well while just throwing on her own clothes; a black v-neck raglan-sleeve t-shirt and a pair of leggings that she struggles to pull on in the backseat, and Manager Lee first laughs at her before he puts up the volume and sings along to Maria’s [Princess] that again is played on the radio. He is also in a good mood, and Hannah crawls out to the front to search for her boots that are supposed to be somewhere – she finds them in a plastic bag by the passenger seat, but only when she has taken a seat to not worry her manager for not sitting down while the van is moving.

“You’re okay with this, right?” Hannah asks her manager when they are getting closer to the restaurant. “Just waiting at the restaurant for me…”

“In case you’ve forgotten, I have made plans,” Manager Lee smirks.

“Right… Your mother set you up on a date,” Hannah leans her head back with a big smile at her manager.

Manager Lee shakes his head at how she jokes with him. “I asked out a woman on a date; my mother has nothing to do with it,” he tells her, chuckling when Hannah just nods, pretending she doesn’t believe him while she actually is excited that her manager is going out. He is going to a restaurant nearby where Hannah and Jonghyun will meet, his date will last as long as Hannah’s and it is a little fun that they both have the same time to keep while trying to live normal lives on the side of their manager-artist relationship. She will still ; that is kind of what they do within this family, everyone teases the ones who go on dates, those who likes someone, and has a boyfriend or … something like that.

He stops the van outside the restaurant and Hannah smiles at him while pulling on her boots.

“I want all details later,” Hannah tells him, “about your date. I wouldn’t mind a picture either.”

“I’m not going to take a creepy picture of my date for you to see,” Manager Lee chuckles and almost pushes her out. “Hurry inside, we are both late already.”

“Bye,” Hannah giggles and hurries out the van with her bag, getting inside the restaurant with her head down. She always tries to not get too much attention, but with blonde hair it is quite impossible. The people at the first floor in the restaurant look all after Hannah when she is lead to the elevator in the back, and the waitress gets inside with her to take her to the third floor; the private section. Hannah takes her hair out from the braid, freeing her hair down her shoulders and slightly admitting to herself that she is nervous; maybe excited, to go on a simple dinner with her boyfriend – even if she is late.

The waitress shows her to the right room (this is something they don’t have in her hometown; a restaurant in more than two floors and also a whole floor for people who pays for some privacy) and then leaves, letting Hannah open the door by her self.

Inside the room is a single table prepared with glasses and fancily made for dinner, and standing up from one chair is SHINee’s Jonghyun. Like always he is dressed well in a dark blue t-shirt and ripped jeans, a black cap is lying on the table and he is like always looking handsome.

“I’m so sorry for being late,” Hannah apologizes right away when getting inside the room, hoping her face do look apologetic, but she must do something right because he keeps smiling when embracing her in a hug.

“20 minutes is nothing,” he chuckles and kisses her hair. She can’t stop smiling either. “You’re worth waiting for, believe me. But I did order already, so let’s just sit down and enjoy the meal, alright?”

Hannah giggles a little when taking her seat; he is as charming as always. She looks at him with a big smile after taking her seat, watching Jonghyun look at her when he takes his. “So what were you doing while I was being late?”

“I… was keeping a track on you, actually,” Jonghyun chuckles and reaches over his cell phone to her. “It’s fun to see what you are doing while I’m waiting for you.”

“Oh my god… they are so fast!” Hannah bursts out when seeing fans have already uploaded videos or pictures of when she was filming the scene outside less than an hour ago.

“I must say it will be fun to see that part of the drama; you running…. But how did the dancing scene go?”

Hannah gives back the phone for him; waiting to answer his question to after their dinner arrives as a waitress enters the room, so when they are alone again she answers it.

Their dinner is normal. Hannah thinks so at least. They eat, talk and really enjoy the time; maybe the subjects aren’t the conversations normal couples have as it is a lot about SHINee’s upcoming comeback, Maria’s popular album and Hannah’s drama. She really enjoys watching him eat, for some reason that is the most entertaining part of their dinner, though she likes everything about it. It’s the typical Jonghyun that she knows; he makes her laugh and he is so simple, so natural by just eating, talking… the way he moves. Hannah feel obsessed when they sit there and she finds herself really looking at every movement he does, but when she can only see him once a week, she can’t help herself.

But like always, it ends too fast. They do finish their dinner and sit there to talk a bit before Manager Lee reminds Hannah of the time with a text message. That puts the couple in a conversation about Manager Lee’s date (Jonghyun can’t stop giving off the weirdest laugh when imagining Manager Lee trying to impress a woman) and it is true that everyone teases the person who goes on a date; Hannah promises Jonghyun to give him the details once she has gotten them from her manager, though if it is something she shouldn’t say she won’t tell.

“You’re working late today too?” Jonghyun wonders when they are leaving the restaurant room. He has his hand on Hannah’s back, guiding her out and his simple touch makes her whole body tingle.

“Mm… Or, I’m not sure it’s working; we won’t be filming any scenes. There are tons of interviews and we decided that we will watch the third episode together,” Hannah answers, unable to hide her excitement for tonight’s schedule. She is tired after eating but she is so excited that she doesn’t care, and she bites her lip with a smile when looking up at Jonghyun who smiles back at her.

She smiles wider when he touches her cheek, just naturally while walking to the elevator. “I met Julia and Carolina at the agency earlier,” he brings up as they stop outside the elevator, waiting for it. “They said you are all recording for a song Hyekyung Hyung is excited for.”

“Yeah… We are all supposed to record it today; I will do it on Saturday instead, Maria too, I think, because she is filming We Got Married today after M Countdown,” Hannah answers and they step inside the elevator together. “But I don’t know what song it is, other than Hyekyung Oppa is excited – but he always gets excited when he is producing something.”

“I know that,” Jonghyun laughs. “And I like him for it. He gets all into his work and can be in the studio all day, coming with crazy songs and all that…”

Hannah just smiles at him. “That sounds like someone else I know,” she teases. She reaches out her tongue when he hugs her shoulder, bringing her in for a quick kiss right before the doors to the elevator opens on the first floor and they walk out, without holding hands or showing off that they are a couple. Just two friends who have just enjoyed each other’s company, though everyone knows it is more. Hannah is happy for that. That she has a boyfriend who she doesn’t always have to stick next to in this boyfriend-girlfriend relationship but they are best friends too, someone to talk to and someone you don’t always have to look your best in front of; but loves the attention he gives you when you now do dress up.

“The first episodes of Mr and Miss have aired, and the response has been very good. A lot of our readers are probably curious to know how 5 Pieces’ pretty youngest Hannah prepared her self for this scandalously fun and on top of that, married character in the drama?”

Hannah is sitting for a solo interview with a female magazine. She is prettily dressed in an almond puff-sleeve chiffon panel long top, a pair of denim blue jeans shorts and a pair of faux-leather high-heel boots in camel-colour that she and actress Shin Minah had been talking so much about that their male co-stars had to step away from them (girls…). They have been doing interviews for magazines and entertainment programs, both as the whole cast, just a few or individual. But this is something Hannah knows; answer questions she has been prepared to answer.

“Preparing for the drama, I went through combat practice – which was tough and precious – and I looked over the script a lot of times. All of us actually wrote an essay about our characters, which was quite the challenge as we had to live in our characters before we had even met the rest of the cast and then we went through it at the script reading. I think I prepared a lot for the drama but I think the directors and staff helped me out the most once we started filming,” Hannah answers and she nods when the female interviewer nods.

“How were your first acting experiences…? I believe it was in Japan?”

“Yes… My very first acting role was a year after my debut with 5 Pieces, and it was for a drama in Japan. I got a small role just out of luck, but it definitely wasn’t easy as I couldn’t speak Japanese and I had never acted before. Because my role in the first drama was so small, I went to about fifty auditions during my stay there, while I was also taking acting classes and learning Japanese at the same time. I later got a bigger role in another Japanese drama, which was more successful and where I really think I got to grow a lot.”

“How has your acting experience been like in Korea after that?”

“Here in Korea I have gone on auditions a little now and then, depending on my other activities. For Mr and Miss they came to look after me,” Hannah answers with a smile. A man photographs her a little now and then during the interview, maybe hoping to get a good picture of Hannah talking. “Even with foreign characters, they usually want to cast someone who is Asian, so I was turned down a lot for not being that.”

“But you still have gotten some impressive roles…”

“Yes,” Hannah laughs, taking a hand softly through her hair. “I went on auditions even if they wanted a Korean for the role because I thought that if I got the chance to show myself, they might give me a chance – I got a chance in Midnight Dream.” She acted as one of the main characters in that drama last year.

“Which process in filming a drama to you prefer between Korea and Japan?”

“Oh, that’s tough,” she giggles. “I think it is more about the directors and the staff rather than the country, so I can’t answer that.”

“Alright, that sounds good. In Mr and Miss you are acting as a married couple with JYJ’s Kim Jaejoong; your chemistry is very high anticipated and from what has been seen so far, you both seem very sure in your character. How has it been acting as a married couple with him?” the interviewer wonders.

Hannah holds her hands together; her forehead wrinkled just a bit when thinking of it. “First off I should say that I am a huge fan of him and each time we have been filming he has been really nice to me even if I mess up; Jaejoong senior have given me a lot of helpful advice during filming too.”

“I also would want to ask how your boyfriend thinks of your character and if he has he watched the drama?”

It’s obvious the woman takes it careful on this question, but since the press-conference, Hannah has prepared herself for questions like these. She is after all acting as a married woman in the drama, and several months ago the world got to know she has a boyfriend – of course media wants to know his reaction to it all. Jonghyun too has said he is prepared to answer questions about Hannah once he is doing his comeback. Hannah automatically shrugs her shoulders at first before she says something.

“He has been watching the drama, though I haven’t gotten a specific comment about it,” Hannah kindly responses, though she thinks of the text messages Jonghyun has sent to comment almost every line she has spoken in the drama, every outfit she was wore and he has either teased or made her blush when commenting on her face-expressions/smile/eye-smile… He has given her a lot of comments, but the interview is not about her private life.

As long as she knows how to respond to the questions, every interview goes well. But she only has time with one more TV interview with the rest of the cast before they almost run away at the end of the interview because the third episode of their drama starts airing on the TV and they do not want to miss it. They haven’t watched a full episode together yet, and today it is the third episode airing, which they are all excited over as it is an episode they do remember filming and in the drama their characters work together for the first time. The one who had interviewed them is doing a reportage about Mr and Miss; the fun part is when he on TV next week will say that the cast suddenly ran off, only to be found sitting in front of the television where their drama was airing. It is a fun reportage about the cast getting close behind the scenes; fans will like it.

The cast and some of the staff are sitting down in front of the TV, laughing and commenting at the episode and eating some snacks. It is like an unofficial break, just to watch their episode. Yeah, Hannah really likes hanging out with them; laughing uncontrollably at Lee Joon Hyuk’s comments and jokes.

The next day, Hannah is filming the scene that the director has looked forward to; the kidnapped character Hannah is playing will be “tortured” and interrogated by the bad guys. The keys to the scene is Hannah being tied up to a chair, looking very beaten up (and y…) and that is about Hannah’s scene in a whole episode, repeatedly being shown while her husband and secret agent team tries to find her. It is an important scene, a fun scene to film too, though the actual scene probably won’t get too much attention in the episode because the rest of the agent team will be in the focus.

Hannah has fun though. She isn’t all that comfortable wearing the loose-fit sweater and shorts and socks that she wore yesterday when sitting on the chair tied up with hands behind her, but with bruises and a broken lip make-up, she is having fun acting out her character that is playing with the bad guys even if they hit her for it.

“You are probably the only one of us who so innocently enjoys doing those kind of scenes; being tortured and also the fighting scenes,” Kim Jaejoong is shaking his head with a smile when the director calls Hannah over to the side to see what they just filmed. Hannah shyly smiles, hurries to take her seat next to the director with a blanket around her legs and looks at the little screen. Jaejoong is waiting for his big I-am-your-saviour scene, and instead of resting in another room he had decided to watch a bit of Hannah’s filming. She admits she maybe is a little too innocent between the “camera’s rolling”, giggling and smiling endlessly because she really has so much fun filming this, and then “action” and she gets the playful character again.

“Really good,” Jaejoong whispers behind them.

The director chuckles at him commenting; it’s the third time this hour. “As always, Jaejoong; Hannah has twice the energy as you do.”

“Ouch,” Jaejoong pretends to have been hit in his chest for those words and Hannah laughs at them joking with each other, knowing the mood is light. The director stands up, asking Hannah if she can do it just one more time from another angle and he pats Jaejoong on the back while the perfect star jokes it could be the age difference between him and Hannah (that makes her have twice the energy).

“Yeah sure,” Hannah rolls her eyes at it, smiling because they are just fooling around, and she giggles when going back to her chair in the centre.

Her hair is in a braid today to not make yesterday seem all in vain, it is a little messy and dirty, but Hannah really likes it. She took a picture earlier that she sent to Maria, wishing her good luck on today’s Music Bank. Maria had won yesterday on M Countdown. Hannah saw it on her phone when getting back to set after dinner; she only saw the end of the whole show but that means she saw Maria’s performance as well as when ending where Maria won and all the dancers (including Emelia) came on stage to lift her up in celebration. The youngest gave their stylist a call, so the moment Maria came backstage where he was, Hannah and her manager got to congratulate her over the phone.

During the scene where Hannah’s character is being rescued by the team, Hannah is supposed to smash her chair in one of the bad guys (because she is the kind of girl who rescues herself, though she needed some help this time) and they use a special stunt-chair that will easily get destroyed, but during one of the takes, Hannah misses the guy completely because she is supposed to do some twirl and hit him with her back and when she misses him she just twirls another round and squats down laughing towards the others for failing.

“I’m sorry!” Hannah apologizes with a laugh, and by now she know that the staff just laughs with her at the mistakes, and she tries to stop laughing when she gets help to stand up and to take her position to do it over again.

Re-doing it, this time the guy is actually way too fast in his movement that Hannah falls down on the floor, the chair breaks completely under her body and the whole crew runs up to her, but Hannah is the crazy one who just laughs.

“That’s not fun!” one of the staff laughs back at her for making them scared, grabbing Hannah’s arm to help her sit up while another asks if she is alright.

“I’m fine, I’m fine…” Hannah laughs.

Don’t think she is the only one making mistakes or falls; everyone does it, all the time. The crew gives the same reaction every time and whenever something happens with Hannah, she laughs it off even if it hurts (this time it doesn’t hurt, but she can’t stop laughing wondering how it must’ve looked like). The director had once commented that no one laughs so much as Hannah when she does these kind of mistakes; according to him, it makes her the happiest person on set who lifts up everyone else’s mood. That’s actually a good thing.

Hannah likes when things are smooth like this, when good things happens and the nights she cried are put behind her – even if they one day will be brought up again – and for this moment, when filming the drama where she is another person, she is sure she won’t recognize herself once she sees the episode, but then again, somehow, she knows it is her. She is one person with a lot of different sides to herself, sides that surprises people or that surprises her, sides that she isn’t satisfied with while others are…

Just today, Hannah is very satisfied. She doesn’t think she deserves the positive response from the staff about her acting, but it makes her keep her effort on the top and with Maria’s album and song doing super great everywhere (topping the charts for music video, online, on the radios, fans love it…) it seems for some reason that the whole group is in a good mood because of that. Good things do happen without bad consequences.

Most of the day they film for the drama; during one break Hannah sees that Carolina has sent her a link to an article that comments on Hannah’s acting in the first three episodes of ‘ 미스터와 미스’ that have been shown so far. The girl just looks through it briefly, more interested in the comments than the actual article because the sites Carolina goes through are usually one-side written. Most of the comments are surprisingly good, saying that Hannah is a pretty good actress and even giving examples that her confidence in the drama is boosting out while her personality in reality seem to be the opposite. Hannah admits she definitely is not the confident young woman who knows of her uality and can put it to use, or anything that her character is, but maybe that’s why it is so fun to play her. It’s a challenge Hannah more than gladly takes on.

In the afternoon, Hannah leaves the set to go on another schedule; 5 Pieces’ Samsung Event in Seoul. Usually at the events the girls perform [Daze], but today they are also having some solo performances; Maria will perform [A Better Day] with a special appearance of rapper Emelia, Julia will perform Julia’s [I’m Sleepy] that usually features SNSD’s Yuri but today will feature Carolina. Hopefully, no one will care that Hannah doesn’t perform anything special; she is instead behind the stage, enjoying her members’ performing.

Hannah has no Mr and Miss filming on Saturday, but like always she has other things scheduled to do. In the morning she packs for their Spain trip tonight, and then she heads to the agency to record the song that the other ladies have been speaking so high about as they recorded it the other day. She is wearing a black v-neck 3/4-sleeve t-shirt and a pair of black skinny jeans to her favourite lace-up platform ankle boots (yes, the pair she got from a Chinese fan and have been using a lot for this past month). The t-shirt is long like most of her t-shirts, but this one is a little longer and comfortable to wear, especially during recordings.

Pete and Hyekyung are always so relaxed when greeting Hannah. Even in the morning, they are drinking coffee and listening to their own music. Hannah puts her things on the sofa by the wall; her jacket and bag, and takes Hyekyung’s chair to sit down next to Pete while the genius is sitting on the big table in the room.

“I have only heard parts of the song, the ones that Carolina sent me,” Hannah tells them when Hyekyung sends over a paper to her with the song’s lyrics.

“Yeah, but that isn’t much at all. The other ladies doubted the song first, but once they sang it, it was perfect,” Hyekyung smiles. He seems excited, and when he gives a nod to Pete, who searches on his computer screen for the song. “And I do not want to hear you say it is not fitting for 5 Pieces’ image; because this is my song.”

Hannah smiles when the music begins to play in the speakers, starting of with Carolina’s voice, like an opening of the song; the music only starting when she has begun singing. Hyekyung says they have added the fingers snapping in the beginning just to give off the right feeling, and Hannah does think the fingers snapping really gives off the vibe of the song in the beginning.

They listen through the whole song, some parts missing and Hyekyung points out Hannah’s parts, though the other ladies seem to have completed most of it.

“What I would want to begin with is to take this part,” Hyekyung points at the paper in his hand for Hannah to see. “The whole first verse was supposed to be yours, and Maria would take the one after the chorus, but we divided them like this instead so she takes the first half and you take the second half and then vice versa for the other verse.”

Hannah nods, understanding since he shows on the paper. It is an upbeat song, filled with instruments and having some new beat to it but it is definitely not the new techno sound, more like an old style. Hannah loves it, though she is also sceptical as this is not the kind of image, style or anything that 5 Pieces have ever done or tried before. So she loves the song but isn’t sure if 5 Pieces can pull it off.

“It’s powerful, isn’t it?” Pete is smirking.

“You want me to take that part?” Hannah spaces out at Hyekyung. She can understand why Maria got it; her voice is perfect. Carolina would fit for it too, so Hannah can’t understand why the mascot hasn’t gotten that part.

“Could you at least try it before complaining, please?” Hyekyung sighs. He isn’t a morning person.

They play the song again, Hannah following the lyrics as it passes by in the beginning and she listens clearly to Maria’s part to know just how she can try making her voice fit after perfection. Hyekyung gives the thumb up as they stop the music after Hannah’s two lines, but he gives her directions to change some things. He always want to hear how the ladies react to the song when singing it for the first time after just listening, and then he helps out to let them know his idea, and then they mix it before Hannah gets to go inside the booth to try record it to see how it ends up.

It’s a great tone she makes in the song. The first time Hannah sings it, she does it perfectly, but Hyekyung is a perfectionist so they sing it a few more times before he realises the first one was perfect. Hannah gets out of the booth to look through the next part, and she takes off her high-heels to be more comfortable.

“I don’t know why you wear those things if you still will take them off; Maria does the same thing,” Pete shakes his head, looking at the high-heels she puts on the side.

“They look good. And Maria always take her shoes off when she records,” Hannah comments.

“What about you then?” Hyekyung chuckles and sits down on the table again.

Hannah shrugs her shoulder with a smile, “My feet need variation, that’s why I take my shoes off.”

The duo laughs at her, but only because she uses the word ‘variation’; people always get impressed when she says a Korean word they think is too complicated or hard for her. Hannah just reaches her tongue out at them, used to surprise people because they never seem to have high expectations on her language knowledge. Instead of feeding them on more fun because of her Korean or shows, Hannah puts their minds back on the most exclusive song 5 Pieces have ever recorded – Hannah must say it is a song more different than when they recorded [Daze]. Hannah isn’t really sure if it fits 5 Pieces, if her voice works well to it at all, if they ever will even release this kind of a song; it isn’t their style. Hyekyung has faith in it, and Hannah can understand why, because he is the one who has formed 5 Pieces’ image with their songs, such as [Original] that basically is 5 Pieces’ successful song that opened up their path.

Though she isn’t sure about the song fitting 5 Pieces’ image it surely is a song fun to record, fun to sing to. The recording goes well, a little more repeating than necessary but the genius duo is very satisfied once they finish, and Hannah is also in a very good mood leaving the agency. Surely it is a fun song; she could image the girl-group performing it, not much in a K-Pop style as the actual song sounds like something else, but with time, Hannah begins imagining it is exactly the kind of song 5 Pieces will have in their comeback.

“I’m pretty sure you can find someone else for that,” Manager Lee chuckles in the van heading to Music Core.

Hannah smiles, looking out the window while her manager is on the phone with his mother, who wants him to help out with something (and meet some girl) and he begins explaining his date from the other day, and the things he has told Hannah is the opposite from what he tells his mother. But Hannah stays quiet, smiling wider and wider all until he is done with the phone call and she looks at him, having the most teasing smile she owns. “You told her you are meeting the girl again?”

“It’s the only way for her to back off,” Manager Lee mutters. “I keep telling my mother that I don’t want her help in finding a girlfriend, but she doesn’t seem to hear me. And I told you, Hannah, that girl I met was really weird. She has five dogs and six cats, she helps her neighbour-”

“You have told me that,” Hannah giggles. “I don’t know why Korean mothers are so worked up in their son’s love life… It’s really weird.”

“Are you saying Swedish families aren’t the same? That you don’t care who dates who?”

“Among friends and siblings; yeah, sure,” Hannah shrugs her shoulders. “My mother would just want me to date a guy – who she will like – but she wouldn’t actually try to find guys to me, or push me to meet someone. That’s what I think is weird.”

Manager Lee agrees that his mother is weird, but that the girl he met the other day is also weird. “All girls are weird…” he sighs while parking the car, getting out with Hannah. “You ladies are all weird too.”

“That’s nothing new,” Hannah giggles and stumbles after him out the van. “But guys are weird too, you know.”

“Oh, don’t start on that!” he whines and Hannah hits him on the arm, them both laughing when getting inside the building to go cheer on Maria. “You do know that you are the only member who hasn’t been backstage with them all week? All the other ladies have been backstage with Maria every, single, day.”

Hannah gives him a glare. She is well aware of that she has been working every single day when Maria has been performing, last week she could come just one day too (but then she was in Japan the other days) but she has showed a lot of interest in it by sending text messages to Maria daily, then congratulating her when she has won on music programs (it’s unbelievable that Maria has won on three music program so far, she deserves it) and the leader has been so happy and excited every single day even if she is at the moment the one working the hardest among the ladies. Hannah has said she is sorry for not being there every day like the other ladies, but Maria laughs it off and says she knows Hannah wants to be there but she has to focus on her drama filming at the moment. Understanding, that is a key to their friendship.

“Oooh, it’s the important Sunshine!”

Hannah laughs when FT Island’s Minhwan gets visible in the corridor, greeting her with the nickname Honggi uses, but Hannah runs up to him because he is holding 5 Pieces’ cat Ace in his arms. “What do you mean with ‘important’?” Hannah asks when coming up to him, her all attention on Ace who is lying on his back in Minhwan’s strong arms, and Hannah talks to the cat; “Hello, pretty boy, why aren’t you with the ladies, hu?”

“Ms Important is the one who works all the time,” Minhwan answers the question she had asked him, cuddling with Ace in his arms and they laugh as Ace puts his paw on Minhwan’s neck. Hannah pouts at the answer he gives her, not wanting to be Important because she works; all of them works. But she knows what he means; the only lady who hasn’t been there all day with Maria.

Manager Lee keeps walking, thinking Hannah can take care of herself, and she is too busy with Minhwan and Ace to care following. FT Island is making a comeback this weekend with [Memory], which Hannah of course has checked out already. She talks some with Minhwan and also greets the other members of FT Island whose room is nearby and they all have to comment on her drama, though Hannah isn’t sure if they actually have seen it, but as the band have to go prepare for their pre-recording so Hannah takes Ace in her arms to go to see how things are going for Maria – the actual reason she is here. According to Minhwan, Emelia had left Ace with him when running back after Carolina to try order some food they all like and not just what Carolina likes, and haven’t returned for the kitten yet.

“Woah, where did you find him?!” Julia begins laughing when Hannah enters the room with Ace resting in her arms.

“Minhwan had him, said Emelia left him there,” Hannah answers, with a quick glance in the room noticing Maria isn’t there, before she takes a seat next to Julia around the table. Emelia isn’t there either. “Where is everyone?”

“Doing interviews,” Julia chuckles, “Emelia is doing it too because they are performing [Back Home]; you should’ve seen them pre-recording it earlier. It was really good; you will see it when it airs.”

“I thought they were pre-recording [Princess],” Hannah looks confused.

“No…”

“They were,” stylist Yong Hyun answers, noticing Julia is saying the wrong thing. “It was decided just the other day they would pre-record [Back Home] instead. I didn’t listen to the details, but that’s what was decided. They both looked really hot and sad, so don’t run away somewhere because we will all sit here and cry together.”

“You’re getting too sentimental,” Julia laughs at him.

Hannah giggles, looking down at Ace who is almost sleeping in her arms. He is always so comfortable in arms of people; he would fall asleep in the arms of a stranger as long as he got the right connection to the stranger. The two puppies are in a box by the wall, mixed up with their legs sleeping peacefully and looking as adorable as always, but Ace stays in Hannah’s arms even when Emelia and Maria comes back to the room. It’s really loud when they return; the ladies talk and enjoy the food that Carolina arrives with, and the puppies are suddenly up on their feet, keeping their bright eyes focused on everyone eating. Hannah is still sitting by the table with Ace in her arms, slowly eating one bite at a time of the bibimbap she has for dinner, the rice mixed with vegetables, fried egg and sliced beef is really delicious to eat with a spoon. While eating, members of FT Island drop by just to announce they will be leaving for their concert tonight, and Maria even gets to feed Jonghun some yummy dinner, to which he has to boast to s that Maria actually shared some food (she is known as a big eater even if she is super skinny) and Honggi tries to get a bite too, but Julia gives him one instead as Maria can’t stand giving away two full spoons of her dinner.

“You take so long to eat…” Carolina comments with her lip hanging hungrily. She has kept her eyes on Hannah’s food for an hour as the youngest still hasn’t finished eating, but Hannah just takes another small bite of her yummy dinner, not giving in to the eyes looking at her food. “Do you want any help with that…?”

“No.”

“Hannah eats slowly lately,” Manager Lee comments. He is sitting in a chair further away, eating a Clementine – everyone keeps eating. “Because she knows she will have to finish eating all of it, she eats it slower.”

Hannah grimaces at him. She eats slowly because she doesn’t want to waste the food even if she is full, and one meal is too huge to eat in ten minutes like her members. And then they eat half an hour later again! Hannah can eat a little every half hour, but to eat a big meal takes a long time and she stays full for longer too. She finds herself much clever than the rest, and like always they don’t care about that. Hannah don’t mind, other than the hungry members taking turns glancing at her food, like today with Carolina. Even when Hannah is done eating, Carolina keeps looking at it. She is weird.

By the time Maria is performing, Carolina is scraping off the little food scraps they have and the others suggest her to eat a Clementine instead if she is still hungry – she doesn’t take a Clementine.

The youngest is all focused with the performance showing on the screen; Maria and Emelia performing [Back Home]. The fun part is that Emelia is sitting right next to them, the most critical judge to this performance as she is the one who wrote the lyrics and this is their first time performing the song. Emelia doesn’t sing, instead she plays the guitar on the stage with Maria singing and in the background it is pictures hung up with Maria and her family, also of 5 Pieces when they went to school together (the actual picture is six years old) and also pictures of Maria happily in their home town. Just pictures they have found of Maria. There is one picture with Emelia and her grand mother too, an old picture of a young little Emelia with glasses and long dark hair, definitely not the cool rapper she is today. It really is a beautiful song – a beautiful performance.

It’s the last performance of the show. Maria had performed [Princess] before the pre-recorded song aired, and when [Back Home] ends the TV-screen shows the current stage with all the artists standing there for the ending, and for the announcement of this week’s winner. Hannah is so happy that Maria has won on music programs; first on Inkigayo last week, then on both Show Champion and M Countdown this week. Yesterday it was G-Dragon who won – obviously he won, he is the G-Dragon – and just because Maria is able to stand next to such a big artist as him makes Hannah really proud. The room is filled with talk now after the performance, comments and praise from the stylists and managers in the room with the ladies agreeing and commenting too. Hannah is proud as a member of the group and as a friend, and she know that everyone in the room share the same feelings.

Hannah begins laughing and cheering, the babble in the room interrupted by them cheering.

Their captain has won her fourth time with [Princess], this time on Music Core. Their trip to Spain tonight will be another cheerful trip.

(The article with the headline ‘Maria Dedicates Her Song [Back Home] To Emelia’s Late Grandmother’ has a comment written in it by Maria from an interview where she says “The song [Back Home] is a song I think everyone living away from their families can relate to, whether it is your child or parents or just a friend. It is a song I would want to dedicate to all families in the world and also with tonight’s performance on Music Core to Emelia’s grandmother who passed away soon after Emelia had written this song.”)
