Chapter 11 - +Reviews

Youngest of Pieces: Five Years in History (9)

Manager Lee is standing in the hall to 5 Pieces’ apartment, dressed and ready to go to Japan over the weekend with Hannah; and now he is waiting for the usual punctual magnae of the group to come. He has been invited inside for a cup of tea by both Julia and her mother as the ladies seem to be awake this early morning (Carolina is the only one who went back to sleep after the abrupt awakening from the leader), and Emelia has blasted on Maria’s album in the living-room because she is rapping in the first track while the leader is the only one who has left the apartment already to become the princess for today’s hectic comeback schedule that the other members will come visit on later. Hannah, on the other hand, is the only member not coming along this weekend to instead support the leader from afar. Manager Lee isn’t patient at all this morning as he checks the clock on his wrist over and over and over again.

Eventually, Hannah comes inside the hall – he hadn’t heard her come down the stairs because of the music, and she had turned down his two phone calls the past five minutes as if telling him she is coming – and Manager Lee sighs as he thought he would have to come inside to get her moving.

“Are you done?” he asks when seeing the blonde girl finally make her entrance in the hall with her bag, and he sees her left hand has the two fingers wrapped in bandage as it is supposed to. “Do you have your passport?”

His whole face looks surprised when another blonde person enters the hall; Jonghyun is there. They greet each other awkwardly, and Manager Lee tries to catch Hannah’s eye-contact for an explanation to why Jonghyun is there, putting on a jacket as if he is leaving with them, but Hannah is too busy finding her shoes to even notice he didn’t know Jonghyun was there.

“I have my passport…” Hannah mumbles to answer his question, reaching for her sneakers. “Oh,” she suddenly runs out from the hall, remembering something and leaving Manager Lee looking at Jonghyun who is putting on his own shoes.

“So…” Manager Lee clears his throat. “You … came here last night or …?”

“Yes, I came last night,” Jonghyun answers politely with a nod, standing up straight in front of the manager. Manager Lee is taller. Jonghyun looks like he is about to say something more when Hannah comes stumbling inside the hall, holding up a copy of Maria’s album in her hand and smiling brightly at the two men looking at her.

“Maria signed it for Jaejoong Senior,” Hannah chuckles and puts it in her bag before putting on her shoes.

“You will bring one album to your co-star while the director and all the staff are looking?” Manager Lee frowns.

Hannah pouts at him. “Maria priorities Jaejoong Senior and for that want him to have the album first; she will next week personally come with the album to them. Don’t you talk to Appa anything?” She rolls her eyes when leaning down to her sneakers again, putting in her heel before she is done with that and grabs her jacket without listening to Manager Lee defending himself by saying he had heard another story for how they will do. Jonghyun is just smiling at Hannah; she is putting on a black synthetic leather zip-up jacket, the same kind he is at this very moment also wearing – it was the couple jacket he got for them.

They call out their goodbyes to whoever hears them before they get out of the apartment and gets to the elevator – all three of them. The manager feels so much like the third wheel the way the couple talks in low voices with each other (Jonghyun is going to the practice, which lets the manager stop worrying about that) and when they walk inside the elevator Jonghyun wants to take a picture because they are both wearing the couple jacket, and who is better to take the picture than the third wheel? Hannah makes them both chuckle when she covers half her face with a mouth mask, and though Jonghyun had commented on it when they were in the bedroom getting dressed, he loves that she hides her face because it is morning, she is going to the airport and she isn’t wearing any make-up; she is cute, he thinks. They pose hand in hand, standing close together with Hannah covering her face behind the black mouth mask and Jonghyun wearing a cap, smiling prettily.

None of them uploads the picture online, instead keeping it for them selves. Jonghyun makes Hannah laugh because he doesn’t want to walk out of the building because that means their relaxed night is coming to an end and he won’t meet her in a week, and she is awkward because Manager Lee just walks straight out of the elevator to not have to be around them.

Hannah is sitting at the front in the car next to Manager Lee driving to the airport; she has taken off the mouth mask to eat her breakfast while they are listening to Maria’s album on the stereo. Each song is really good, Hannah loves how Maria fits each different song with her voice, and she laughs when eating as Manager Lee is singing to [Princess] when that track begins to play. For some reason, people just can’t help but to sing to the song. He wants her to keep it secret from Maria that he actually sings to one of her songs.

The most hilarious thing is when they have listened through the album and arrive at the airport, and Hannah takes back the CD to bring it along, the radio is playing Maria’s [Princess].

{Instagram, bunny92hannah: PRINCESS is played on the radio, but I just listened to it and it is played again? Captain, your voice is heard everywhere ;)}

It was a picture of herself in the van, holding up the album to show support to it and she tagged all kind of things linked to Maria and her album; in the picture she is hiding herself behind the mouth mask again. She uploaded the picture while walking inside the airport with her manager, being led the right way and listening to him tell her that it isn’t a lot of people at the airport at this hour. Hannah don’t care much about that as she isn’t that new to be at airports; she doesn’t even have to look up from her cell phone where she is now writing a text message to first Maria and then to Jonghyun; maybe because Manager Lee guides her so she just need to stick next to him.

“If you had a hood and sunglasses, you would look like a superstar trying to melt in the crowd,” Manager Lee chuckles about mask. Hannah smiles as she puts away the cell phone; they are standing in the tiny line to check in.

“Or someone who wants to rob a store,” Hannah comments.

She knows it isn’t unusual at all in Asian countries to wear mouth masks; some wear it when they are sick or because of the bad air in huge cities, while idols tends to wear it for other reasons. Hannah has two reasons to wear it; first when she is sick and the most usual one, or the second when she is just tired of her face and wants to cover it. Today it is the second, because for once she is feeling healthy, rested and relaxed; ready to spend the weekend filming in Japan. Like always she is aware that there are fans there; they keep a distance, taking paparazzi pictures of her, and for that she is trying to stay faced to the counter desk, being impolite to her fans by showing them her back but honestly, at times you just want to be like everyone else. That is why she loves the airport in the mornings, when simply travelling like this without her members because there isn’t such a big thing that she is going abroad without the group and the airport is calm compared to how it usually is. For example; after some years travelling back and forth it is the first time Hannah actually sees there is a clock high above on the wall, because she has the time to see it. Okay, normally at the airports she is looking down instead of up because there are so many people there, but today she feels free and actually lifts her head to look at the surrounding.

After checking in, Manager Lee puts his hand on Hannah’s shoulder to cover her with his arm from the fans that have come closer. If she wasn’t used to it, she would have wondered what he was doing when walking next to her but kind of facing her, but since she is used to it she just slinks her hand between them to give a sneaky wave to the fans that are angrily calling at her manager for not letting them take pictures.

Hannah is very clever with one thing. Since she has to use the bandage for her sprained fingers, it is quite obvious if she goes to the airport with it and fans will panic and get all worked up with that she has gotten hurt one way or another, so she is wearing a dark gray fingerless mitten with the fingers cut just enough for the bandage to just peek out a tiny bit (also hiding it in the sleeve to her jacket), enough so you can’t guess if it is to the mitten or not. A few years ago she had to wear a bandage and she used the mittens to not be so obvious about it, and though it is only September, no one will think too much about it thanks to the leather jacket. Hannah does plan a lot of what to wear after all; hiding herself under her clothes.

“Fans always hate on the managers when we do our job,” Manager Lee sighs as they reach the gate.

“True,” Hannah agrees.

“It’s only Manager Lim who is loved for being your manager,” he jokes, and Hannah smiles because she too know that Manager Lim has been loved by 5 Pieces’ fans since the first season of Life of Pieces for the simple reason that he takes care of them. Manager Lee takes care of Hannah too, but in fans eyes it is different.

Hannah and Manager Lee are great at planning, so even if they are a few minutes later than planned they are still on time, which means they sit down outside the gate to wait to board the plane. Hannah sits there with her bag, mouth mask and blonde hair, texting her boyfriend who says he is warming up for practice and Emelia who is writing that she is on her way to Maria’s comeback performance pre-recording with Julia and Carolina. Hannah really wants to be there with them; to cheer their leader on when she is making such a big comeback and to have fun with the ladies to Maria’s songs. But she also looks forward to work in Japan on the drama; today she is filming the drama, tomorrow she is shooting a chocolate commercial with Jaejoong, and on Saturday they are filming the drama again before they will head home, so Hannah can visit Inkigayo on Sunday before the group will head home to Sweden for their Samsung events. Among all the things she does, Hannah is most nervous to promote Samsung in Europe; what if no one is interested at all? What if the few fans there thinks she doesn’t like Sweden at all (there are rumours like that because she is on bad terms with her family) and for that will bash on her during the event? Hannah is suddenly terrified to go there.

She takes off the mouth mask when going through her bag for some chewing gum, and just as she finds the package in the bag, someone walks up in front of her, a tiny voice saying “Excuse me”. Looking up, it is a cute little girl, dressed in a pretty dress and jeans jacket with a colourful backpack on her back standing in front of Hannah with a book pressed against her chest with both arms. The little girl looks at Hannah with big eyes. “Hi… you are Hannah, aren’t you? 5 Pieces’ Hannah?”

It takes several seconds before Hannah realises the girl is speaking Japanese, and before messing up by answering in Korean she smiles widely and answers in Japanese that she is Hannah. The girl is adorable when she giggles and stamps her foot happily when turning away just briefly, as if Hannah wouldn’t see how happy she got, and it makes Hannah smile wider while looking at her.

“Could I get your autograph?” the girl wonders when she looks back at Hannah. “My mother told me to let you be alone, but I told her that it can be one in a lifetime chance to personally ask you for an autograph… She is sitting over there.” The girl turns around and points with her whole arm over at a Japanese woman who on her body is just as tiny as the girl in front of Hannah, so it is easy to see they are relatives. The woman smiles out of embarrassment and waves their direction, not coming over to them but she shyly looks away when Hannah waves back. Of course she agrees to give her an autograph, and the girl looks really happy when holding out the book she has kept to her chest; not until now Hannah sees what book it is and she can’t help but to get surprised.

“You read this one?” Hannah is shocked, looking at the front and the back of the book in her hand while the girl is struggling to take out a pen from her backpack that she has taken off her back. The book that the girl gave Hannah is the Japanese version of ‘Joe – Under Seoul’s Streets’, the first fantasy roman that Hannah released last year. The second book came out this year, but yet it has only come out in Korean.

“Ah, ye, my mother read it for me first. Then I read it two times and I am now doing a project in school about it,” the girl answers happily, almost bouncing up and down when giving Hannah a pen. “Oh, my name is Aika – you can read it here if you want…” The girl takes out a school book from her bag where her name is written nicely at the front and Hannah focuses to write her name and a little message on the first page in ‘Joe’. “Everyone in my class has watched your drama. The one with 5 Pieces. It was really fun. You look very pretty too… My mother didn’t want me to watch the drama first because she knew there were fights in it, but in the end we watched it together; she likes your music too, we always sing your songs together when she is making dinner. I help out with the vegetables. I’m sorry for talking a lot but I am really excited to meet you, you are my biggest idol – 5 Pieces is – but you are my absolute favourite.”

Hannah is just smiling, it’s impossible to not smile at this energetic Japanese girl who keeps talking. Though she is left handed and she is hurt at the moment, Hannah manages to write her autograph and the little message before she hands it back to the girl with that smile printed entertainingly in her face, hiding her left hand under her right.

“Could I ask you one thing?” the girl suddenly panics to look at Hannah with big eyes, the book pressed against her chest anew. “Are you really together with that member of SHINee? Because me and my classmates are really upset over that…”

“Why does it upset you?” Hannah wonders slowly, and she is really curious to know why this little girl is upset at Hannah for having a boyfriend.

“Just because…” the girl answers with a pout; and Hannah really want to just laugh and joke around with her because she is the cutest thing. “My friend said people can only love one thing at a time. If you love your boyfriend, you won’t love your fans anymore…”

Hannah keeps smiling at her, leaning forward with her arms on her knees to look at her. “Do you love your mother?” Hannah wonders.

“Of course…”

“Do you love your father?” Hannah asks.

“Yes…”

“Then tell your friend that my heart is as big as yours; people who are worth loving, I love,” Hannah calmly tells her and the girl is starting to shyly blush. “It would be a sad world if we could only love one person at a time, Aika, and please don’t be upset at me; My fans have a very big place in my heart.”

The girl nods, still pouting, but Hannah think it is out of guilt, so Hannah holds out her pinkie to ask her if she can promise to not be upset anymore, and the girl pinkie swears on it.

“Stop pouting then,” Hannah laughs and the girl smiles shyly.

“I’m sorry.” The girl looks up when her mother comes up to them, greeting Hannah shyly and apologizing if her daughter is disturbing. “Dear, I told you to leave her alone…”

“But mom-”

“It’s okay,” Hannah quickly tells them, smiling at the girl shining up and then at the mother who smiles too. “I’m just waiting for the flight at the moment.”

Normally her manager won’t let her talk with fans, or make sure they don’t talk for long so Hannah somehow expects him to interrupt them right here to say they have to go somewhere even if they are just waiting for the flight, but he stays seated next to Hannah, tensed and looking at them without saying a single thing. The mother smiles widely at Hannah, holding a hand on her daughter’s back. “It’s very kind of you,” the mother says, “my daughter noticed you right away when you took a seat, but I told her to leave you alone as you are obviously very busy… I hope it wasn’t a trouble having my daughter ask for your autograph.”

“It’s no trouble at all,” Hannah keeps smiling at the woman before she looks at the girl, “Will you read the next book when it comes out in Japanese?”

“Yes! Oh my god, yes, of course I will! My mom said she will buy the English one when it comes out on October 10 in Japan; my English is actually better than others in my age.”

While waiting for them to board the same plane, Hannah listens to the daughter and her mother talking; mostly praising 5 Pieces and having ordinary questions about Hannah’s book if it is anything at all about Hannah, otherwise they talk about themselves and Hannah loves to hear it. Even when boarding the little girl keeps talking all until they have to take their seats on the plane, and Hannah can’t stop smiling because she know the little girl keeps an eye on her from afar. They are very talkative, the girl and her mother. Manager Lee smiles sitting next to Hannah, as he too can feel the daughter and mother glancing their direction, and once they are in the air he can’t help but to ask Hannah what she wrote in the book for the girl. She smiles, for seconds being quiet that makes him wonder if she will tell him at all, but Hannah answers that she wrote something like ‘it was nice meeting such a lovely girl as you at the airport. I hope your school project about Joe goes fine. Keep it up, fighting!’

FAN REVIEW: Maria’s album has finally been released and I probably speak for ALL fans around the world when I say FINALLY. This album has EVERYTHING in it! I’m serious here; we all know the track [A Better Day] with EXO Chanyeol’s dark rap that awesomely melts in with Maria’s high voice and it is such a cool song. The cover and all the pictures in the album is perfection from top to toe, but what did we really expect from the model of 5 Pieces? And with her pictures being perfect, I expected that the actual album wouldn’t be as great, but after listening through the songs, I am stuck, I love all ten songs!

The first track is about Maria being a classic girl who can take care of herself, and she can make guys look good too, she makes her own money and don’t need guys to buy her things though guys shouldn’t back away in fear from her because … she is a Classic Girl, deal with it. It’s an awesome song with Emelia’s rap in it too. Half the song went by and I were like “where is EM? Where is EM?” but then she came with her rap and I was like “AWESOME!” – The second track is a really nice ballad about a broken love, and Maria’s voice is just … you have to listen to this song! – The main track [Princess] doesn’t really need an explanation because it is just shouting out MARIA from beginning to end and the music video is freaking perfect and her We Got Married husband Hyunsuk is in it! Check it out – The fourth song actually reminds me of SNSD’s [Say Yes], maybe because Jessica and Sunny are in it and their three voices are just perfect together and Maria is perfect no matter what she sings, who she sings with and in the album (those who have it can probably see it) knows that she thanked them for featuring in her song. Not my favourite song in the album but you can’t say no to one of the songs – Track five is [Boys, Boys], and it is really fun with the lyrics about how boys are seen in the eye of a girl, which can be interesting for boys and it is just fun for girls because we all just agree to it. It’s one of my favourite songs because it is so fun – [Never Give Up] is the song Maria is said to be performing on her comeback, and for my ears it sounds like the most ordinary pop song, but we all know Maria will make it awesome in her performances – The seventh song is [Back Home], the song that brought me to tears because Emelia actually wrote the lyrics to reflect on how it is to live away from your family and that there is no place as home where you grew up or where your family is; random deep info is that the lyrics was written this summer, then when Emelia’s grandmother died, Maria convinced the company to let the song be part of the album (how sweet isn’t that!) and we all know it is a tear-filled song with Maria’s beautiful voice – [A Better Day] has always been talked about because I couldn’t help my first view of the album and Maria looks really cute standing next to Chanyeol in backstage pictures – the ninth song [You Make Me Smile] was commented in the album to be for fans, and according to Maria it is basically just that whenever 5 Pieces performs, us fans make them smile (Maria is my favourite member and I love how she gets her will through, with her own comments in the album written here and there among the pictures), it is a very happy song – and the last track is the beautiful ballad [Thousand Miles Later] that I so badly wants a music video to! 10 out of 10, Maria is just too perfect to be true ;)

“She is rude and fake, I don’t get why people like her at all…”

Hannah opens her eyes, her head dizzy and she covers her face when realising she had dozen off. Her stomach is turning, as if she is feeling sick. It is a lot of noise around her; she is still on set in Japan where they are filming the drama. It’s Saturday, in the evening, and she has barely gotten any sleep during this trip because they have been filming at nights too (they have even taken in on a hotel to wash up, Hannah got half an hour lying in a bed there too), which the result has become that she can barely stay awake. And eating too much isn’t helping either; Manager Lee is on her back every other hour to make her eat; only making her more tired. Whenever a longer break occurs where Hannah gets to sit down for a few minutes, she closes her eyes and dozen off until something wakes her up.

Glancing around, she can see Manager Lee sit around a table with some others, playing cards and betting for fun (earlier today when he asked Hannah for some money, Hannah said no and he went to the stylist to ask her instead). She doesn’t like betting, that’s why she didn’t help him with the money even if it is for fun they are playing.

“You’re doing it again.”

Hannah looks up at her left, taking control over her tired face-expression when seeing Kim Jaejoong stand there with a cup of something to drink – soda or water. She clears and glances down at her hands where her two sprained fingers are still hurting from time to time. “Doing what?” she asks, glancing back at her manager before looking at Jaejoong who is standing with his arms crossed and his hand holding the cup close to his chin.

“Dozing off and then wake up as if you had a nightmare”

“I have slept badly, I’m sorry,” Hannah apologizes.

“You have slept badly all week, nothing new about that. Is it because Minah isn’t here?” Jaejoong is teasing her. “You find my presence boring?”

Hannah looks at Jaejoong with a frown, saying no and shaking her head. “Am I like an open book for you or something, senior?”

“If you were open, I wouldn’t have to ask you questions,” Jaejoong answers, finding it amusing.

“Maybe I’m in English,” Hannah mumbles.

Jaejoong moves a chair to sit down with her, leaning forward with his arms resting on hid legs and he holds the cup in both hands. It looks like water. “What’s going on? You have been this weird all trip, being distant and whatnot. You are happy when we talk about Maria, and do you know that you spoke in Japanese with me half day yesterday when we were filming the commercial?”

“Yeah… I’m sorry for that; I mix up languages whenever I come to Japan,” Hannah breathes out. Maybe she is an open book after all.

“Did you and Jonghyun have a fight? Is that why you’re weird?” Jaejoong wonders.

Hannah smiles apologetic at him, but shakes her head again. “People filmed me at the airport; my behaviour is apparently very rude… I spoke to a little girl, or she spoke to me first, and … that made these people online think I am fake or something- I know it’s nothing, I have been hearing these things for five years, but if I cover my face at the airport, people think I’m rude,” Hannah is muttering, sighing and pouting. “It’s going on my nerves.”

“I thought I told you to not look at comments online.”

Hannah pouts. She knows he has told her that, but truth is that he told her to not look at comments about 5 Pieces’ reality show and she hasn’t really been looking at comments there but people “fans” or “anti-fans” comments on twitter, Instagram and wherever they think Hannah will see their comments. She really doesn’t know why she is being filmed to be hated on, even at the airports.

Being in the spotlight for five years, Hannah does expect herself to get used to this. Sure she isn’t surprised to get attention at airports, which is half of the thing being an idol, and surely comments online are like the basic thing to being known for others, but when 98% of those comment feels hateful, she isn’t really sure if she want to be filmed at the airport anymore. Jaejoong still think she should ignore the comments and she knows he is right.

Before they go on set to film again, Hannah sneaks over to her manager, takes her cell phone from his pocket to text Jonghyun and also to her little brother Kyung Ho, who apparently went to Music Bank yesterday to wish Maria good luck on her comeback – it seems like everyone goes there. Manager Lee doesn’t seem to care that she goes through his pocket, both when taking the phone and when putting it back, as he both is used to it and too busy playing cards. Honggi had texted her earlier today too, asking question after question and eventually writing he is bored since she isn’t backstage at today’s Music Core where the rest of her group is (it is a special festival concert for Music Core today). As if trying to make her jealous he had even sent a picture of himself, Minhwan and Julia, to which Hannah responded with a picture taken of all the people on set working… She isn’t sure what she meant with that picture, but she couldn’t text with him until two hours later again because she had to go film.

Filming in Japan it has only been Hannah and Jaejoong most of the time as they have been filming scenes of them doing a secret mission there. In the drama for episode seven it is the two of them going to Japan on this mission where they have to break inside a building and steal something that belongs to someone or that contains secrets or whatever; Hannah isn’t really sure of the details but she knows it will be revealed in the airing drama.

The same day Hannah went to Japan, on Thursday, the first episode of ‘Mr. and Miss’ had aired in Korea. With them being in Japan at that time they had gotten to see it online through a website for the TV channel; so everyone on set still saw the episode when they had time for it. everyone looked cool and showed their characters in the first episode, and at the end of the episode Hannah made her entrance at the airport; first looking graceful when walking out the arrival gate but when spotting her “husband” (Jaejoong) she became cute as she smiled and ran into his arms. The drama has gotten a very good review, even Hannah was praised for her small scene appearance (the scene of her at the airport was like her only scene in the whole episode) and though that should be everything that matters at the moment because she really has worked hard on this drama, Hannah can’t help but to think of other comments that is being said about her; how can she be fake when talking to a little girl? She really don’t understand people on the internet, it’s like they don’t have any joy in their lives and just have to push other people down because they don’t have anything better to do.

It’s over midnight when the filming ends in Japan, and Hannah has missed her flight back to Korea. Most of them have. To wait for morning when the next flight goes, they all take in at a hotel where Hannah joins most of them in the restaurant for hours as it is especially open for the filming crew; food and drinks are served while they chat and hang out. Hannah is with them even if she knows she should take this as a chance to go sleep; instead she take it as a chance to hang out with the crew for the drama, laughing at their jokes and being joked with when she doesn’t understand.

Hannah likes to hang out with the crew – otherwise she wouldn’t even hesitate to go to a room and sleep – and it isn’t about who is a celebrity or not because it is actually just Hannah and Jaejoong who are “actors” among them, but that doesn’t stop anyone from teasing and fooling around with each other. And with everyone being tired from the weekend’s filming, it is the same effect as if being drunk; if you aren’t fighting to keep your eyes open, you are either talking rubbish or laughing so bad that tears are coming out your eyes. Hannah laughs mostly, making others laugh for some reason when she can’t stop crying and they all end up laughing together around the table she sits by; all of them laughing so crazily at nothing that those around them either wonder what is going on or laughing randomly along.

“It’s all thanks to Hannah,” the female staff member laughs. One of the men hits his hand on the table from laughing at the story she has been telling. Hannah smiles, not laughing like the others but she likes the bathroom story that is just an hour long. “Without her fluent Japanese I would have been kicked out of here with my first.”

Hannah and the female staff member had gone to the bathroom when a woman working at the hotel started to accuse the female staff for being a stalker, almost dragging the clueless Korean woman out when Hannah explained in Japanese that they work together. It isn’t really much of a story but the staff seems to appreciate it, laughing at it and thanking for Hannah’s good Japanese. Hannah’s way of joking is to say something in Japanese and everyone around the table just ‘woaaaaaaah’ at her, though one time Manager Lee was right next to the table and told them that all she said was ‘cell phone’ in Japanese; that time, anyway. Those around the table just laughed it off.

By morning, most of them head to the airport for the first flight back to Korea, others who aren’t in such a hurry get to wait for the next flight. Hannah and her manager get to take the first flight.

While waiting for the plane to take off, Hannah sees the collection of pictures Jaejoong has uploaded on Instagram, and she presses the heart to like it. it is several pictures put into one, but all of them are of Hannah dozing off on set – she is sitting here, sitting there, standing against the wall – in each picture she has her head tilted on the side with her eyes closed. Jaejoong had showed her some of the pictures the first times he took them, but she didn’t know he took five pictures during five different times. Jaejoong had written along to the picture ‘right after these pictures were taken, each time, she told me she isn’t tired. Hannah, I caught you’. Among all the comments, Hannah writes one too, first to defend herself that she wasn’t sleeping all the time on set and then to say that her senior is funny (he is funny). She would want to tell him many more things for those pictures, but decides not to.

When they arrive in Seoul, Hannah and Manager Lee both make calls here and there to set the different schedule because they had planned to have taken the flight last night. What Sunday now look like after arriving in the capital is hospital visit to check Hannah’s sprained fingers, then she will go home to wash up, unpack and maybe pack, then head to Inkigayo where the others are. Hannah wanted to go to Inkigayo first, just briefly to see how things are going, but failed to change her manager’s mind as it wouldn’t be a good plan.

After a brief visit at the hospital, they head to the apartment.

On the way up in the elevator, Jonghyun calls her as he seems to have gotten the text message she sent him when she landed. She keeps talking to him (or, well, Jonghyun keeps talking) while Hannah gets inside the apartment, Manager Lee tells her to hurry up and she goes upstairs while undressing. It is completely quiet in the apartment; the ladies, Julia’s mother and the three pets all seem to be at Inkigayo, but Hannah planned in her head of the things she has to do when coming home so she begins to unpack her bag (Jonghyun is still talking on the phone) and taking out her bigger luggage to repack in that one for the European trip.

The difference of packing going from Korea-Japan to Korea-Sweden is probably the size. Some more clothes to fit, a pair of extra shoes and since 5 Pieces will go from Korea to Sweden, Germany and England on the same trip, it is important for the planning girl of 5 Pieces to watch the weather, but since the trip is just two days long, most of the time will be spent on the flight and the smaller bag need the basics of something to read, write and extra earphones.

She stays on the phone with Jonghyun all until she has to take a shower, which means she is almost done packing, and after getting dressed anew in an ivory logo print t-shirt and black skinny jeans she calls back to Jonghyun, who makes her giggle as he teases her by saying she was fast, ‘couldn’t help missing the sound of my voice?’ he teases.

She has packed her bag – this time a bigger bag and one smaller as this is both a longer trip and it is further away – and she has showered, her hair put up in two simple braids hanging down on each side of her face and to finish her outfit she puts on her couple jacket before heading downstairs where Manager Lee is waiting. Her manager rolls his eyes that she is still on the phone and Hannah grimaces at him to not have him comment before they both walk inside the hall to leave.

Even when they are in the car heading to Inkigayo, Hannah is in the back talking to Jonghyun, ignoring her manager who at first plays music loudly as if telling her to not talk on the phone though he turns the volume down when Hannah kicks the back of his seat.

Before arriving at Inkigayo and before hanging up on the phone, Hannah and Jonghyun talk about 5 Pieces’ trip to Europe’s three countries for their Samsung event tour. Jonghyun is happy that the girls will go all the way to Europe to promote, saying Hannah is silly for her thoughts that it might become a bad trip because fans seem to not like her, and eventually telling her that he loves her and telling her to call the moment she comes back to Korea (they will talk to each other before that).

“Don’t say a word,” Hannah warns Manager Lee when they get out of the van together.

“I haven’t even opened my mouth,” he chuckles, locking the van after him.

“That’s why I tell you to not say anything,” she tells him, smiling at her manager who keeps chuckling. She knows he wants to for the call, for having a boyfriend and whatever. He keeps chuckling and Hannah laughs at it, shaking her head as she walks before him to the Inkigayo building and when hearing some people shouting by seeing her (fans standing outside the building), and just because she is going to see Maria’s comeback performance Hannah waves happily over to the fans that shouts even more and even jumps. Manager Lee suddenly holds down her arms from waving, and just as Hannah is about to glare at him, he whispers that she is showing the bandage. So clueless at times, Hannah had completely forgotten about the bandage that she put back on after the shower. With a pout she hurries inside the building, and only when the door has been closed behind them, Manager Lee releases a sigh as if telling how clueless she is.

“Hannah is here!”

Maria’s dressing-room is like a tiny little party; loud of voices, laughter and music and filled with people working or just being in the way. Hannah smiles widely when she walks inside the room; hearing Maria call out from the other end that the baby has arrived, though she only heard it from others that Hannah is there rather than seeing her in the crowded room.

“How was Japan?” Emelia coolly asks from the sofa on Hannah’s left, sitting there with a blanket and Ace in her arms. Hannah says it was fun while seeing two puppies run around her feet – she hope no one steps on them. While making her way through the crowded room of managers, stylists and others, she sees that the members are doing their own thing; maybe being here all weekend with Maria, supporting her comeback, they are just waiting for it to end. Hannah gets up behind Maria who is getting her now long bleach blonde hair straightened out (she wear hair extensions today, and they are long), and Hannah smiles widely when seeing Manager Lim sit in the corner with some papers, acting busy.

“How is it going for you?” Hannah kindly asks the leader, putting a hand on Maria’s shoulder for her to know the question is directed to her. They can see each other in the mirror on the wall in front of Maria, and the leader is shining brightly.

“I gave G-Dragon my album before. He looked so hot and he said he has listened through the songs already and he likes them all!! Did you see the music charts? Ah, not here on Inkigayo, but the online charts, you know…”

“I have only been in Japan, Maria; I do know these things,” Hannah giggles, smiling widely, flying on clouds because their leader is up there. Though she has been working in Japan, there is no way she would ever forget to watch each one of Maria’s performances. She has watched the performances, looked up the interviews, helping out with the music video viewing on YouTube and of course, sending text messages to Maria whenever she got the chance to show her excitement in how awesomely well Maria is doing. Maria’s comeback weekend has really been awesome, all from the performances to the online comments; Maria is everywhere.

Hannah keeps talking with Maria and their stylist Mi Young, happy for the leader that her album and solo comeback is doing so well.

“They have asked me to perform [Back Home] on Music Core next Saturday,” Maria brings up, and Emelia’s voice from the sofa is heard;

“I’m going to perform it with her!”

“Because Emelia wrote the lyrics, we have decided to perform it together for our families,” Maria is calmly explaining, but her eyes gives her away as they look really excited – whether it’s for today’s performance or for next week’s [Back Home] performance, Hannah don’t think it really makes a difference. “And for her late grandmother… We think our fans will appreciate to know how deep meaning the song has for us.”

Hannah looks over at Emelia, the pale friend joins in another conversation with a smile, chuckling at a joke she tells them. Hannah knows that the song [Back Home] in Maria’s album was written by Emelia before her grandmother passed away and after that it became much more important to have in the album because not just Maria but all the ladies felt it would be a great message to all of their fans and those listening to the song. It is a very touching song. The song is already popular in the country, as everyone with a family can relate to it – most of Maria’s songs seem popular in the country at the moment…

“I think it will be great,” Hannah eventually comments, smiling softly at Maria. The performance next week will be good, both of them deserve attention for the song; Emelia for writing the lyrics and Maria for singing it perfectly. Hannah would love to see it; she have to see her schedule, maybe she can come be backstage that day.

Manager Lee comes up to them after talking to basically everyone else in the room first. “You truly look like a diva now, Maria.”

“I’m a Princess Diva, Oppa, don’t forget that, therefore my song; [Princess]. Duh,” Maria rolls her eyes.

Hannah head over to the sofa after Maria treats the manager like she always do and Manager Lee just walks off as he is too used to Maria’s weird treatment. Hannah likes it. Maria always has a way to talk to the manager, it never changes. The youngest sits down next to Emelia, pouting when Emelia won’t let her caress the cat held in her arms.

It isn’t difficult to be in a good mood around her members. It is a happy time for them with Maria’s comeback, her successful comeback, and the girls are chatting and teasing each other while being backstage; making Hannah forget that she actually is tired. Hannah doesn’t leave the room, though Carolina is barely there at all (according to Julia she is in KARA’s dressing-room), and the youngest smiles with the rest when members of EXO show up to be very supportive juniors to Maria’s comeback. She would have liked it Jonghyun came too. When they are there, Emelia tells Hannah that SNSD came at Music Bank to show their support too, and that EXO had arrived with all the members on Thursday’s M Countdown. the whole SM family show support to Maria’s comeback; Super Junior’s Heechul who came out form the military at the end of last month came to Music bank backstage two days ago too to take a picture with Maria and also to eat of her food, saying she is too tall and doesn’t need it anyway (it makes no sense, but that is Kim Heechul).

Now when some of the members of EXO are there at Inkigayo, the room is more crowded than ever. The boys stand along the wall to not be in the way, but Hannah can see how Luhan steps back and forth as he still seem to be in the way – it isn’t a room big enough for all these people, and the sofa is in the way for them to stand well by the wall. Hannah gets up from her seat, telling him to sit before she walks out of the room just so he can’t say against her, and Hannah just walks right outside the room to stand by the wall there.

Maria had pre-recorded [Princess] in the morning, and she will perform [Never Give Up] live right before the main track airs, but it isn’t just yet she will perform. Hannah lowers her head in a tired greeting to some juniors passing by with their backs bent down so much that she can’t even see their faces and once they stand up they have already walked by her, and she just can’t understand why they greet her nervously as if she is going to bite them if they don’t do it. Hannah doesn’t care abut them, but she does care about the puppy that is walking down the corridor, smelling his way forward. Maybe he thought no one saw him sneaking out the room.

“Michin,” Hannah calls out, not in a strong voice but high enough for him to hear. The brown puppy looks up, waiving his tail when he turns his head to look at her. “Don’t go there, come.”

She moves her fingers by her leg for him to come, pouting at her left hand fingers that haven’t healed yet, and she turns towards the door next to her for the puppy that comes jogging back to follow back inside with her. At times Hannah is amazed by how well they listen and she praises Michin before stepping inside the room together. Hannah stays near the door, looking at all the things happening in the room. Maria is practicing for an interview, nagging at EXO’s Baekhyun who is trying to slink in with his own questions a little shyly and stylist Yong Hyun is giving advices to Baekhyun of how interviews with Maria usually goes like. Emelia is still sitting with Ace in her arms, talking to the members of EXO about their promotions (or are they talking about a game?), Julia and her mother are talking to other stylists and Manager Lim is trying to get Maria’s attention to decide what food she wants to order. Hannah smiles when seeing their manager’s try to get anyone’s attention but everyone is too busy in their own world that not even the mention of food can get them all on the same track.

Eventually the manager can order food and Maria goes to do an interview, leaving the others behind in the room. Hannah takes a seat on a chair that is empty for a minute or two (which means no one else will sit there) and she manages to hear what those in the sofa are talking about now; food. Emelia and Julia are explaining some Swedish food to the EXO members, Julia’s mother in Swedish brings up the Swedish dishes as the two ladies seem to not be able to come up with any good. Hannah think they will eat a lot during their short trip to Sweden, drink a lot of milk because no milk taste as the Swedish one, and Hannah has promised to buy a lot of candy – because there is no candy like the kinds you have in Sweden. The ladies have their basic things to do when they go to Sweden; drink milk, buy candy to bring back to Korea, and to enjoy the Swedish scenery that isn’t anything special at all but actually plain and simple, which probably is why they enjoy it.

The youngest pick up her cell phone from her pocket; after writing a text message to Jonghyun to answer the one he sent to her, she is just about to check Instagram when someone says her name and she looks up. Faces have turned to her and she looks completely clueless at them, quiet all until Julia repeat the question to ask how it went in Japan. A basic question, but Hannah doesn’t like how the members of EXO look at her as if she is going to say something really interesting, and her members just ask it because they can.

“Well… I guess it went okay… We were shooting all the time, so…” Hannah swallows, nervous by the sudden attention. She shrugs her shoulders, looking back down on her phone as if letting that be enough, and she thinks she is done talking too when Emelia continues to talk about her own trips to Japan last month.

“Sunbaenim, what happened with your hand?”

Hannah looks up by the low voice, knowing the question is directed to her as she is the only one with bandage on her hand/fingers. Kai has become a junior, speaking formally to her around these people for some reason. She lifts up her hand to show that the bandage is focused on just two fingers, and she smiles a little embarrassed when Luhan rests his chin on Kai’s shoulder to look at it too. Both of them are sitting at the end of the sofa, closest to Hannah though Chanyeol is standing up by the wall between them, but he is engrossed in the others’ conversation. “I was kicked during a fighting scene. It was just these two fingers,” Hannah tells them, “and I can take the bandage off when we are in Sweden, so it’s nothing serious.” The doctor wanted her to keep the bandage on when they were on the flight, so she won’t take it off until they actually are in Sweden.

“We watched the first episode of your drama,” Luhan tells her. Hannah knows a lot of people think he is girly or cute, but she has always thought he is manly. “Your … character, she is very cute.”

She smiles, holding back her laughter when awkwardly thanking him for that (hopefully, it is a compliment), and she bites her lip when Kai just chuckles. To not let it get awkward, Hannah asks if they want to be in her picture she will upload on Instagram to support Maria’s comeback. Kai agrees to it right away, standing up to get up next to Hannah who has to stand up too, while Luhan takes a few seconds to think before joining them.

“His Korean isn’t the best,” Kai jokes with Hannah to explain Luhan’s slow reaction.

Taking the picture with Hannah’s cell phone, she holds it up with both hands with Kai moving to stand on her left side and Luhan on her right (she really don’t know why she has to stand in the middle) and Kai takes the phone from her hand to manage holding it both further away and steadier; Hannah blames it that she is left handed and that hand is in bandage. Both of the pretty boys standing on both of her sides put on the pretty and simple face-expression, while Hannah gets up a little on her toes and does her own pose with head lightly tilted and v-sign held up right below her cheek with the right hand. Kai laughs adorably with his mouth wide open when she first goes up on her toes, but his face-expression gets smooth when he takes the picture, counting down from three before taking it.

“A funny one too?” Kai suggests, not taking down his hand as he looks at the other two and Hannah giggles as she can see in the frame how Luhan grimaces right away. She kind of imitate them for a funny face, and they all three laughs when they take two more weird pictures, and when sitting down again Kai suggests her to download some app that can help you put several pictures together with some fun stickers.

And for the next fifteen minutes the three of them (Luhan comes and goes) are laughing and giggling among each other while putting the pictures in the same frame and adding funny stickers to it. Kai takes the phone two times to add things too, but it becomes such a mess that they have to start over again.

It ends with three pictures; the first picture and two fun ones, and in one of the fun ones that they kind of have put in the focus, Kai has a pair of sticker ears like a dog, Luhan has a moustache that really fits with the face-expression he made and Hannah has a pair of pink heart-shaped glasses sticker. Once they have uploaded it with Maria’s tag to promote her album, Kai show it to s (he walks around with Hannah’s cell phone, laughing adorably) and he laughs even more when running back to Hannah to show the first three comments.

{Instagram, bunny92hannah: handsome Luhan, blonde Hannah, cute Kai – we are excited for [PRINCESS]!}

Comments arrive such as ‘Dorky you are! LOVE IT’, ‘EXO & 5P? SM love <3’, ‘ur all cuties! Love your hair, why u look so perfect together~ Three angels~~’, ‘growl, stay away from the wolves, baby!’, ‘is it a collaboration?? I would pay for that…’, ‘why do you look so cute? XD’, ‘PRINCESS on Inkigayo tonight! R U all there together?’, ‘Hannah should wear braids more often, it is adorable on you, and more pictures with EXO~ Your friendship is soooo cute!!’

Hannah smiles at the comments and grabs Kai’s arm to pull him over to the mirror, where she takes the phone while he is the one looking clueless all until she takes out the camera. He leans a little towards her with his own v-sign as she takes the first picture, but she makes him laugh when she looks up at him with a surprised face-expression, apologizing when asking if they can take another one – she had shown the bandage. Kai has no idea of how she is supposed to hide the bandage as she is holding the cell phone with both hands, but she takes her left hand behind her back and holds the camera strangely in her right hand, and Kai is standing on her left side so at first when she took back her hand he thought she was going to have it on his back and got confused.

“Ah…” he says when she tries to focus the cell phone to take the next picture. He doesn’t know why she takes the picture towards the mirror; maybe she wants the rest of the room to be seen behind them though you can’t see much of it.

For the third picture, Kai holds up Maria’s album that he saw on the table, and they both tries out to copy Maria’s face-expression on the cover of the album where her face is in a perfect close-up and she has red lips and big eyes and she really look like a pink princess. The pictures get hilarious. That’s the picture Hannah uploads on Instagram.

{Instagram, bunny92hannah: You wanted more?}

This time it is just Hannah and Kai that laugh at the picture and the responses, but that doesn’t make it less funny. Manager Lee actually ask what it is they laugh at, but Hannah grimaces and says it is a secret between her and Kai, and her junior just laughs and agrees to whatever she say.

Maria comes to the room for twenty minutes before she leaves for her performance. The food has arrived and she has gotten just a bite of it before she has to go to the stage. Everyone else stays backstage to look at the screen when she performs, and Hannah becomes a little fan-girl along with everyone else when Maria is being introduced to the stage. It’s only Carolina who is eating in the room, everyone else have decided to wait (Hannah don’t think she can eat much, not after this week where Manager Lee has filled her up with food every other hour). The leader does her performance like she has done the whole weekend. When she begins to perform [Never Give Up], it is like the most basic pop song ever that is just dance and sing flatly from beginning to end but with all songs today sounding like a crazy smash of remixes and confusion, [Never Give Up] is like that perfect little dot in the middle, and Maria really makes the song.

The girls laughs when EXO show their true selves as [Princess] is beginning; they sing along like little fan-boys, and Kai just can’t stop moving his body. Hannah has noticed it long time ago, but whenever there is music, Kai is moving. He is really like a dance machine. He looks all focused and lightly moves his body to the music. That is what makes Hannah laugh, while Julia laughs at Chanyeol and Baekhyun like a duo falsely sings the first chorus. It is the pre-recorded performance, the stage is all pink and bright and Maria with long wavy bleach blonde hair, pink glasses, pink and blue nails, on her finger there is a moustache ring in pink, she is wearing a white and pink striped tank top with a fluffy yellow skirt and she looks just like that typical princess-syndrome girl. But with Maria; of course it works. And anything can apparently been accepted on the stage.

Even in interviews Maria has said that she loves to go all-out, which is why she is going all-out on this princess concept. In one interview she joked that she is being treated like a princess backstage too; which is not true, it is just her attitude and way of joking.

“Hannah, I’m bringing Fast 5 with me,” Emelia points straight at the blonde girl towards the end of Maria’s performance. “I’m tired of watching Harry Putter whenever we go abroad, so I am bringing my collection.”

The Fast & The Furious movie collection that is kind of Hannah and Emelia’s favourite collection (Hannah is such a geek, but she would no way be able to choose which one she prefers out of The Fast & The Furious and Harry Potter because one has hot guys in it and the other has awesome magic in it) is what Emelia mentions, because normally whenever the girls goes on a trip together – abroad for a concert, for promotions, wherever and whenever – they bring movies with them. Normally they tend to have a Harry Potter marathon, which is like the kind of marathon and movies the members of 5 Pieces often watches and Emelia out of nowhere just have to tell Hannah to prepare for fast cars and hot guys.

“Which movie are you bringing?” Hannah wonders. Maria’s performance has come to an end just a second ago, and before they can eat and leave it is the ending of the music program. Hannah is barely even listening to the week’s winner being announced, though she saw Maria stand there in her [Never Give Up] outfit and looking glorious among the other artists on the stage.

“All of them? We have the latest one, right? I-”

“AAAAAAHW!”

Out of nowhere the room burst out in a cheer and Hannah gets such a shock to see everyone around them get up. Carolina even spits out some food when she (a little late) jumps up too in a cheer, and Hannah just stands up to see the TV screen, the whole room cheering and hugging and laughing and eventually it hits Hannah what just happened; Maria won. She squeals and hug her members as if they all just won a big award and she hugs Kai next to her, almost screaming in his ear while he just laughs his adorable laugh and Hannah turns around to scream loudly right out at Julia who does the exact same thing towards her.

Maria won with [Princess] on her comeback stage!

She keeps laughing in amaze, trying to see the TV-screen but fails as Emelia is pushing the girls out the room.

Outside at the stage, Maria had been nervously standing at the front of the stage with the other nominees (like G-Dragon) and the three MCs, her hands held together while smiling at the audience because some fans were screaming out her song while the winner was being counted. She was excited for her comeback, a little extra nervous that she is on the stage without 5 Pieces and her song is running up for first place.

They then announced the winner and the audience began chanting HER song, and Maria just looked around like a confused kitten before MC Kwanghee said she won because she wouldn’t accept the award he held out to her. Maria began laughing when accepting the flowers and award and completely out of it she turns towards G-Dragon to bow to her senior (probably the only senior there for her) and she is laughing and crying out of shock while the MCs tells her to do her speech.

“Oh my gosh!” Maria cries out in the microphone, receiving loud cheers from the small audience. She laughs surprisingly girly and isn’t really sure what to do, what to say, and whenever she gets this lost face-expression she begins smiling widely again. The audience keeps cheering on her and she looks around as if this isn’t real. “Oh my… um…” She takes a hand through her hair, almost dropping the award with too much being held in her hand. “I really want to thank all fans, for … uh… for loving [Princess].”

The audience screams because it is obvious that she did not expect it even if her song was a runner up for first place.

“I want to thank Lee Sooman, our SM Town family, Hyekyung Oppa, Pete too… All the wonderful staff here at SBS… Our Manager Appa, Manager Kim Unnie, our y stylist Yong Hyun Oppa, the fierce Mi Young Unnie… Of course my family in Sweden, mom and dad, my sisters and my brother…” Maria laughs in between, and slowly she is realising that her song has won song-of-the-week after just 3-4 days. “Thank you so much! To my ladies, I love you! To all our fans, I LOVE YOU TOO! THANK YOU!”

She ends with a bow, starting to cry some more and she bows when backing away to let the MCs finish off the program so she can do her encore. Maria just looks up to see G-Dragon lingering and she is fast to bow down at him while he pats her shoulder and congratulates her, and Maria could almost burst out that he is so y but instead she thanks him and bows again and she smiles at Kwanghee and the MCs when they are getting off the stage and she turns around to smile and bow at the audience as her music begins to play for the encore. Maria is the type who cries and she don’t care about make-up or how she looks, she just cries out of happiness and it is nothing to be ashamed about and she is cheering at the same time.

Along with the dancers coming up on the stage is also the other four ladies, and the audience begins screaming their loudest when the ladies runs up to Maria and embraces her all together in a hug. Through the microphone you can hear Maria crying in the middle and the audience is just going nuts while the ladies are laughing and cheering and this week’s winning song on Inkigayo is playing. Hannah gets out of the hug when Emelia does, but the moment they all let go of Maria and their leader is just crying, Hannah embraces her for a real hug and Emelia takes the microphone to give it to Carolina who more than gladly tries to sing the song, but even if Carolina is great in her own way she can not make [Princess] to fit her, but she makes it for fun to the fans (the cameras for the program has stopped filming) and getting help to do the choreography with the dancers. Hannah just smiles while hugging Maria; the leader hugs her tightly, mumbling that she is crying out of shock and amaze that her song won. It is the first time Maria has won something as a solo artist, and Hannah knows the feeling. Which also means Hannah knows how absolutely shocked you get when hearing your solo song win on a music program where you definitely do not expect to get anywhere at all.

This definitely needs celebration; they will eat dinner and remind Maria every minute with help of EXO that [Princess] is the song of the week.
