Prologue

"Air. I need air." I thought. My hands were thrashing around me, as if the action itself can provide me with the oxygen that I really need. My lungs felt like it would burst any moment. I can't really see my surrounding for everything is silhouetted. I tried to open my mouth to shout out for help, but all I got in return was salt water drawing into my mouth. The motion forced me to swallow the salt water. Big mistake. It took what little oxygen that remained in my lungs and cause me to involuntarily breathe in through my nose and mouth again. 

"Is this the way that I would die?" I thought. "How pathetic." My body start to get numb from the cold. I can hardly feel my numbed legs and my arms stopped thrashing in the water. "I'm tired. Oh please God. Someone save me. I don't want to die now. There's so many things that I want to do." Flashes of faces passed through my mind. My umma, my ^*namdongsaeng, my best friend NaNa. 

Just as the thought came into my mind, I felt something or rather, someone tugged at my hand. I just got a glimpse of a silhouetted human body in front of me and my right hand in his (or is it her?) grip. "Please don't let go. My eyes are getting heavy." That's the last thought that I remembered in my mind before darkness closing in on me. I felt secure by that hand grip, as if everything will be alright.
