Jonghyun’s heart broke into a thousand pieces as tears fell down Kibum’s cheek. Key’s gorgeous eyes were now red, and filled with salty tears. Jjong could see how the other boy shivered, biting his cherry lips. After a short but unbearable silence that seemed to go on forever, Kibum finally spoke in a broken voice. “Was it all a lie? Am I just so unimportant to you that you didn’t even care how I felt? Have you ever cared about me, Kim Jonghyun?” Kibum’s questions stopped Jonghyun’s breathing. Was that really what the other boy thought? Did he really think that Jonghyun had lied the whole time? Did he really think he meant nothing to Jonghyun? “A toy to play with, is that what I am to you?” Kibum wrapped his arms around himself, as if he was trying to protect himself from Jonghyun. He looked so fragile and vulnerable at that moment. No, this wasn’t supposed to happen. Key wasn’t supposed to be hurt. Jonghyun never thought that everything would go this far. He wanted to apologize. He wanted to tell Key not to cry. He wanted to tell him the truth that he just lied to the other boy to make his older brother stay with him, because he couldn’t handle the loneliness if Onew left. Having to e-mail his parents was bad enough; he didn’t want to have a brother in a faraway land too. However, he was neither able to move nor say anything. He just stood there, frozen, watching his Kibum cry his heart out. The nightmare that Jonghyun thought he had forgotten appeared on his mind once again. ______________________________ “So, a bet, huh?” The Diva asked, clenching his teeth together, causing his voice to sound dangerously low. “Key, I can explain,” stuttered Jonghyun in fear. “You don’t deny that it was only a bet? Kim Jonghyun, how dare you?!” Key yelled loudly all of sudden, and ran towards the player, kicking his stomach hard. The younger boy was too calm, as if nothing had happened, even though Jonghyun could see tears forming in Key’s red eyes. This was definitely not the reaction Jonghyun had expected at all. Actually, he thought Kibum would cry, or be so mad that he would even beat Jjong, but seeing the younger boy lifeless, without any emotions was a million times worse. It was as if Jonghyun had killed the boy’s soul. “Key, let me explain, please.” Jonghyun said after a short moment which had seemed like hours. “Hey, Jonghyun,” Kibum finally spoke with an unexpectedly calm voice. “I just met Mrs. Park. She was the one who said I could go upstairs. I hope you don’t mind.” Key tried his best to sound “normal”, but his voice was too broken – just like his heart. His face was pale, his hands were shaking, and his eyes were dead.  His legs felt like they would give up any moment. Yet, he had to stay strong, because that was his way to suffer through pain – stay strong and survive. “Please, listen to me. I’m so sorry.” Jonghyun tried again, but Key didn’t seem to listen to him. The younger boy was still standing there, unmoving. “Taemin is waiting for me at home. I should leave now,” Kibum bitterly faked a smile and left silently. Jonghyun’s eyes followed Key’s every step while his heart jumped in panic. “It’s not what you think. Please give me a second to explain.” He said, grabbing Key’s wrist tightly as he caught up with the younger boy, causing their eyes to meet each other. For a moment, Jonghyun froze. He could see tears in Key’s eyes. The boy looked so hurt and Jonghyun knew he was the one who caused this pain. That was the moment his guilt hit him, and Jjong realized what he had done.   “Okay, explain,” he heard Kibum say, or rather whisper, and saw him look away. “Thank you,” replied Jonghyun before sorting out his thoughts.
