******************************
Daehyun: I don't remember ever agreeing to do a radio show with you. This is all Youngjae's idea...I swear, he doesn't have common sense...
Jongup: The microphone's on, by the way.
Daehyun: Oh crap. Uh...never mind.
Jongup: Since Daehyun is too inept at this, I will do it in his place. Welcome to the next episode of Trainer Teacher.
Daehyun: Hey! Stop stealing my lines!
Jongup: In this episode, we will be looking at something we've neglected to bring up the entire journey, and it has already happened multiple times.
Daehyun: That's right. What we're talking about today is Pokemon Evolution!
Jongup: What is Pokemon evolution, Daehyun?
Daehyun: Evolution is when a Pokemon changes its form to an even stronger form, and the Pokemon may even learn new moves or change its type.
Jongup: Indeed. For example, take Youngjae's Braixen. It's evolved from a Fennekin sometime earlier. It has gained a new form and has become stronger.
Daehyun: Yup. Some Pokemon evolve when they reach a certain level. In Fennekin's case, it reached level 16.
Jongup: There are also some Pokemon who evolve by stone. For example, Petilil, Cottonee and Helioptile. All require the Sun Stone to evolve.
Daehyun: Wait, they're not the only ones on our team which need stones, right?
Jongup: Well, let's go through our Pokemon, then. Daehyun has Cottonee, Monferno, Bagon and Plusle. Monferno evolves when it reaches level 36. Bagon will evolve at level 30.
Daehyun: Youngjae has Petilil, Lopunny, Braixen, Cubone and Misdreavus.
Jongup: Misdreavus evolves by stone. It needs a Dusk Stone. Lopunny's at the maximum evolution and Braixen evolves at level 36. Cubone evolves at level 28.
Daehyun: So, uh, your Pokemon...?
Jongup: Lucario is at the maximum and so is Araquanid. Servine will evolve at level 36.
Daehyun: How about Junhong's? Clefairy, Weepinbell, Meditite, Croconaw and Yamask?
Jongup: Clefairy needs a Moon Stone, Weepinbell needs a Leaf Stone. Meditite evolves at...level...I think 36 or 37, and Croconaw evolves at level 30. Yamask at level 34.
Daehyun: Wow, Junhong sure needs a whole lot of stones, huh?
Jongup: We can buy various stones in Heatstorm. There is a market there mainly for stones. Many rocks are infused with energy from the volcano, thus becoming evolutionary stones. Either that or we can try our hand at mining.
Daehyun: Wait, so Cottonee can evolve when we reach Heatstorm?
Jongup: Essentially, yes, but sometimes, you might not want to evolve a Pokemon right away.
Daehyun: Huh? But don't they get stronger?
Jongup: At the same time, they are less likely to learn new moves and we would have to rely on TMs and HMs, which are quite hard to come by, as well as Move Tutors, which we have to pay Shards to learn a new move.
Daehyun: Huh, I never thought about that.
Jongup: So now you know. Continuing on, for Yongguk's Pokemon...Rufflet is a late bloomer--it will evolve at level 54. Houndoom is at the maximum, Ariados is at the maximum, Grovyle will evolve at level 36.
Daehyun: Wow, means that Rufflet will become some cool bird thing?
Jongup: Maybe. Go search it up yourself.
Daehyun: ...
Jongup: ...
Daehyun: So, last but not least is Himchan's! Man, Himchan's Pokemon really evolved a lot, huh.
Jongup: Well, quite. Floette requires a Shiny Stone, Kirlia needs to reach level 30. Brionne evolves at level 34, Mightyena is at the maximum and Spearow requires level 20.
Daehyun: Hold up, I thought Kirlia has two evolutions.
Jongup: It does. It can either evolve into Gardevoir or Gallade.
Daehyun: Then how do we know which evolution it will evolve into?
Jongup: Depending on the gender. If Kirlia is female, it can only evolve into Gardevoir. Such is the case with Himchan's Kirlia, but if the Kirlia is male, it can evolve into Gardevoir at level 30 or Gallade when exposed to a Shiny Stone.
Daehyun: I...didn't know that.
Jongup: It's almost the same with Snorunt and Burmy. Snorunt can evolve into both Glalie or Froslass, but to evolve into Froslass, it must be female and must be exposed to a Dawn Stone.
Daehyun: Wait, what about Burmy, then?
Jongup: If Burmy is male, it will evolve into Mothim, and if female, evolve into Wormadam.
Daehyun: So some Pokemon evolve differently depending on the gender...
Jongup: Sometimes, the gender of the Pokemon may determine if the Pokemon evolves at all. Take Combee and Salandit. Only female Combee and Salandit evolve into Vespiquen and Salazzle respectively.
Daehyun: Huh. What else determines evolution, though?
Jongup: You've ever heard of Eevee?
Daehyun: Yeah?
Jongup: Eevee, known as the Evolution Pokemon, has the potential to evolve into one of eight possible evolutions. Flareon if exposed to a Fire Stone, Vaporeon when exposed to a Water Stone, Jolteon when exposed to a Thunderstone. Espeon with high friendship in the daytime, and Umbreon with high friendship at night. Leafeon when levelled up around a mossy rock, Glaceon when levelled up around an icy rock and Sylveon when levelled up with high affection knowing a Fairy-type move.
Daehyun: ...
Jongup: ...
Daehyun: Man, I'm...I'm...astounded.
Jongup: It's not that hard.
Daehyun: I...have no words.
Jongup: That's rare. Moving on. There are other interesting ways to evolve Pokemon as well. A Pokemon such as Piloswine needs to learn the move Ancient Power before being able to evolve into Mamoswine. Karrablast and Shelmet need to be traded for each other before evolving into Escavalier and Accelgor.
Daehyun: What about places? Are there any Pokemon that evolve at a certain place?
Jongup: Magneton and Nosepass as such examples. They evolve when they level up at a place with strong magnetic field, such as the Poni Canyon in Alola and Mt Coronet in Sinnoh. In Oakre, you need to level it up at Mt Zaprun near Sparkridge City.
Daehyun: You said something about friendship, right? Earlier?
Jongup: Not friendship. Affection. They're two different things, which will be explained in the next Trainer Teacher episode. Pokemon that evolve with high friendship include Munchlax, Swadloon and Cleffa.
Daehyun: Any other...evolution methods you can think of?
Jongup: Some Pokemon need to hold an item and level up to evolve, like Sneasel needs to be holding a Razor Claw. Some Pokemon need to hold an item and be traded, such as Scyther which needs to hold a Metal Coat. Another strange way of evolution is that Inkay needs to be upside down while levelling up to evolve.
Daehyun: What.
Jongup: Yeah. Inkay needs to fight an entire battle upside down and level up for it to evolve.
Daehyun: Are you serious.
Jongup: Dead serious.
Daehyun: ...
Daehyun: Wait, I remembered something else. How come you didn't mention Plusle and Minun earlier?
Jongup: Because they don't evolve. There are some Pokemon that do not evolve, Plusle and Minun being such examples. Other Pokemon include Pinsir, Kangaskhan and Spinda.
Daehyun: Oh...I see.
Jongup: Evolution is a funny thing, really. Pokemon that evolve when traded? No one knows why it happens, but it just does.
Daehyun: Uh...
Jongup: There are Pokemon authority studying about evolution from other regions, and why some Pokemon evolve and some don't. Till when they find out, we'll never know.
Daehyun: You know, that was a little anticlimatic.
Jongup: But it's...fact.
Daehyun: Oh alright. So, this marks the end of this Trainer Teacher episode?
*door opens*
Junhong: Guys, did you see Himchan's body soap somewhere here? Oh , you're recording...oh my , I'm sorry.
Daehyun: Arceus, Junhong! Get out before you make things worse.
*scuffling*
*door slamming*
Jongup: If that didn't mark the end of Trainer Teacher, I don't know what does.
Daehyun: Okay, so, err...see you all next week?
