Chapter 45

“This won’t work out Donghae.” she said. My heart sank upon hearing that. Not now. Not when all I kept on thinking off was her. Not when she’s the only reason why I’m happy, why I’m willing to do other stuff.

“HyunAe-ah…” I called in a pleading voice as I held her trying, stopping her from leaving me. I don’t really care about my image right now. If I had any.

HyunAe just looked at me blanky. And that made me loosen my grip. “Bye…” I heard her say before walking away…

That’s my phone. And it brought me back to my senses.

So that was just a dream… I still have HyunAe right beside me… I still have her… I still have her in my hands… she’s still here…

I checked my phone for the call but it ended. It was Heechul hyung, maybe he’s just going to ask me to get him something to eat.

I looked up, still holding her hand, and she slowly opened her eyes.

“Hey…” I said. Her forehead knotted upon seeing me. “Your workmates brought you here when you out at work.” I informed her. “The PDs called me and I immediately went here.”

“Thank you for coming over… but don’t you have work?”

That made me take a look at my watch. Almost 4pm. The event tonight requires us to be there at 7pm. I still have plenty of time.

“We have the afternoon off. I was actually planning to ask you for lunch but then, you’re here.”

“Sorry for the inconvenience.” She said and took her gaze away from me.

“It was nothing. You’re my wife, it was my duty to be by your side at times like this.”

Then there was silence…

“Are you hungry? What do you want to eat?” I asked her after a few seconds.

“Chicken?”

“Chicken it is.” I told her with a smile and dialed a number on my phone.

I called EunHyuk and asked him to bring us some food.

In less than 30 minutes, EunHyuk came with her food.

“I didn’t know that I’m a delivery boy now.” He commented as he handed over the food. “Hey HyunAe. Get well soon okay?” he added in his usual jolly tone. “He rushed over here when he heard that you fainted. Take care okay?

She just nodded.

“Yah. We better get going now. We have a lot of preparing to do.” He said.

I don’t want to go. But we have to.

“Can’t you just go ahead first?” I asked him.

“Alright but be there before 6. We have to go to the event altogether.” He said and headed for the door.  “Bye lovers.”

“Sorry about that monkey. He’s just… jealous since I don’t have that much time for him.” I told her and started preparing the food for her.

“You… You don’t have to do that…” she said and tried to pull herself up from the bed. She even tried to get the container from me. But I took it far from her.

“Hep.” I said and she gave up.

I finished preparing the food and was about to feed her but she declined. She insisted that she can eat on her own. Though that made me feel somehow sad, I let her do what she wants.

I just watched her do her thing the whole time, giving her water whenever she needed one.

When she finished the whole thing, my phone beeped. It was our manager. He’s asking me to go back now.

“I have to go now.” I told her and fixed what she used. “I’ll call Hyeyoo Noona so she can stay here with you while I’m gone. I’ll be back after the event.”

“I’ll be fine with Unnie. You don’t have to come over.” She said and I felt really bad upon hearing that from her. It is as if she doesn’t want me to be with her. “I mean… you should take a rest too.”

“I can take a rest while I’m here with you.” I told her and went over to her side. I leaned down, planning to give her a light kiss on the forehead as I go, but then HyunAe look up at me, making our lips meet. It was a brief kiss. The usual one that I give her. “I’m going.” I said and left.

I didn’t join the others for the dinner and I went back to HyunAe’s side. And I just got in time before she got discharged. I took HyunAe and Hyeyoo noona to their apartment, not our unit because I won’t be around to take care of her there.

“I’ll call you tomorrow to check on you okay?” I told her when I was about to leave. We were at the door. “Text me all the time okay? And eat.”

“Chagi-ah…” she called and threw her arms around me. “Thank you… thank you for caring… thank you for everything…”

"No biggie Chagi... i'm more than willing to do that because... i love you."
