Chapter 34
Love Matters.Tiffany shook her head in disapproval when she heard everything from Jessica's mouth this time; why didn't her best friend say anything to any one of them from the beginning? She knew Jessica was selfless most of the time but Jessica was going to far with this. If they were truly best friends or family for that matter, Jessica should have breathed a single word to them - it was already too painful for her to withstand with them, much less stand alone.
“I thought you knew us better than that. No matter what problems I’m having with TaeTae or anyone for that matter, you should know that I’ll always be here for you. You’re my best friend and you’ve been through bad times with me, why can’t I do the same for you?”
Jessica lowered her head more, twiddling her thumbs together as she felt guilt fill her entire heart. She didn’t mean to make them feel as if they were worthless in her life; all she wanted was to let everyone settle their own problems while she settled her own.
“Fany,” Sunny glared at the younger one and shook her head, wrapping one arm around Jessica’s shoulder, “this is not the time to blame her for it. We came to focus on their anniversary.”
All of a sudden, Tiffany's eyes widened and she made her way towards the room further down the hallway; she had been so focused on Jessica's issue that she completely forgot about the kids. She didn't know if it was her brain that had seemingly turned to mush or the lack of focus; she walked to the room and looked for the kids, only to remember that the twins were out with Yuri.
Tiffany walked back into the living room with a deep embarrassed blush on her cheeks, especially with Sunny and Jessica unable to hide their own amused smiles. She must have looked like a fool to them when she was supposed to be a problem-solver; they were not going to let her live this down, especially Lee Sunkyu.
“Sica, you know this is harmful to both Yoong and Soojung with the way you two are acting. They’re so worried for you… and do you even remember what day it is?”
Jessica sniffled into her palms and whispered, “of course I do. It’s our anniversary.”
Sunny didn't like how hurt her cousin was but that was definitely a biased point of view; she didn't know how hurt Yuri would be by all these revelations. Yuri doesn't have the faintest idea of how much Jessica had suffered on her own; he would probably be in more pain when he realises why she didn't tell him. Jessica didn't even tell her own husband about it - it was going to look horrible for him.
“Are you going to tell Yuri about it then?”
“Tell me what?”
Everyone froze in horror when they saw Yuri standing at the door with the twins holding both his hands. He might have sounded shocked but his expression was calm enough to scare the living daylights out of Jessica. Yuri seemed to have heard something before that and it was scaring all of them; what if he happened to hear every single thing they had said?
Tiffany supported herself with her arms and walked towards Yuri, leaning up to give Yuri a kiss on the cheek. “I think you and Sica should have a good talk. It’s your anniversary today so don’t let anything spoil that. I’ll take Yoong and Soojung upstairs with Sunkyu.” Tiffany didn't leave any room for negotiation as she took her godchildren, leading them upstairs to their room with Sunny.
Yuri didn't know what to expect, not when Jessica's eyes were so red and swollen. He thought she was angry and she cried last night but he didn't expect her to cry this morning too.
“Sica… what were they talking about?”
“Sit down, Yul. I don’t think you can take the shock of it.”
Jessica clasped her fingers together and covered her face entirely; tears were already flowing down her cheeks at the thought of Yuri knowing that the chances of them having more children were very low indeed. Yuri wanted more children and Jessica knew it; the guilt only strengthened when she remembered having even more with Yuri, hoping to maybe get a second shot at it.
“I… I said that I signed the papers because I felt worthless and helpless, right?”
Yuri nodded unsurely, afraid to find out what Jessica was going to say… though he did have an idea already. Jessica frowned almost immediately, her heart racing in complete fear. She went down on her knees in front of Yuri and looked down at the floor, mentally praying that Yuri would forgive her in time to come.
“Sica! W-What are you doing?!”
“No, Yul. Listen, please.”
“I’m not going to listen until you get up. You’re my wife and I will try my best to understand your actions. Get up, now!”
When Jessica didn’t move, Yuri bent down and held Jessica in his arms before pulling her up with him. His tears started to drip down his cheeks after realising how bad things could be for them. Jessica was never someone who’d cry and beg for forgiveness, especially not for something like that. Yuri sniffled a little and fell back against the couch, Jessica’s heaving back resting against his chest.
Yuri wrapped an arm around Jessica’s shoulders and embraced his wife tightly. “Sica… tell me, and I’ll try to understand. You’re my everything, baby. Please don’t ever kneel in front of me.” Yuri whispered and Jessica felt even worse after hearing how heartbroken Jessica was.
“C-Children is out of the q-question now.”
There was silence for a while; Jessica knew Yuri needed time to accept this. What she didn’t know was that Yuri was more than relieved after hearing that. Yuri has been waiting for Jessica to admit all this to him for a long time now; it was kept a secret from him because Jessica didn't want to burden him even more - he could understand that. He was waiting and waiting; a long-standing suspicion.
