Myung Kiha

It was the name on everyone’s minds ever since Sooyoung’s spirit-controlled hand etched the characters out on the soot-covered wall in the club. Changmin had been the first to snap out of his shock, whipping out his phone to call Siwon and give him, Yoona and Amber more specific directions, while Yunho, Kris, and Kyuhyun darted out and pulled Sooyoung back to safety when she felt the spirit let go of her. They had a lead. It was merely a name, but at least they had something.

“He died in that club that night, alright.” Siwon said by way of greeting when he burst through the doors of the base with Yoona and Amber hot on his heels. “And apparently, he died a hero too.”

Changmin looked up from monitors he and Kris were watching. “Died a hero?”

“Exactly what I said.” Siwon nodded once, smiling gratefully at Seohyun when the young medium handed him coffee in a paper cup. “He saved the life of his then-girlfriend and, according to her testimony, left her outside to help rescue those stuck inside.”

“Damn.” Heechul let out a low whistle from his spot on the sofa. “Who’s the then-girlfriend?”

“Yoo Jinjoo.” Amber replied. “From what we managed to find out about her, she still lives here in Seoul. Married and with children.”

Yunho was already on his feet. “Got her address?”

“Yup.”

“And there’s more.” Yoona chimed in then. “Myung Kiha was the scheduled DJ for that night.”

Jessica frowned. “Didn’t the fire start in the DJ booth?”

The younger woman nodded. “Exactly.”

Kyuhyun exchanged a look with his brother. “We should split up. Some of us should go and visit Yoo Jinjoo while the other half should stay behind and continue researching on the survivors and victims.”

To the twins’ combined surprise, no one protested when they took it upon themselves to split everyone up, instead of everyone getting a choice on what to do. As it was, Kyuhyun was taking Amber, Siwon, Yoona, Yunho, and Jessica with him; the group being the one designated to head to Yoo Jinjoo. Changmin, Heechul, Seohyun, Sooyoung, and Kris were all to stay behind and research with strict instructions to inform the departing group of the latest developments, whether through call, text or Changmin and Kyuhyun’s far from normal means of communication.

Heechul stared at the sheets of the paper scattered all over the long table before him. “Maybe it’s possible…”

Changmin arched an eyebrow. “Which?”

“Those spirits… they said they were murdered, right?” When the younger man nodded, he continued. “What if the cause of the fire was a lot more personal than we think?”

Seohyun pursed her lips in thought. “What do you mean?”

“What if… what if only one person was the target?” Heechul finally looked up from the papers to look at his teammates. “And all those other people who died are mere collateral damage?”

“Then that person will pay.” Kris clenched his jaw. “We know for a fact that person’s alive, because all those spirits won’t ape this way if he or she’s in there with them. We’ll hunt him down.”

Sooyoung nodded, silently and secretly wishing for a vision to come her away and help them.

“I’ll do most of the talking, alright?” Siwon spoke to no one in particular in the team waited outside Yoo Jinjoo’s home. “We need her to believe that this is an official police investigation and that the case has been legitimately reopened. Of course, it really will once we get sufficient evidence now that Chief Ahn believes this thing you guys do… but she doesn’t need to know that.”

Before anyone could reply to that, the front door was swung open, revealing a petite but rather frail looking woman in her thirties with jet black hair that reached her waist and snow white skin. The number of people waiting outside seemed surprise her and, zeroing in on Siwon, apprehension and hesitation crossed her face even as she managed a small smile in greeting. “Can I help you?”

“Good afternoon, ma’am. Sorry to disturb whatever it was you were doing. I am Officer Choi Siwon and this is my team of private investigators.” The policeman showed his badge and managed his most charming but professional smile. “Are you Yoo Jinjoo?”

The raven haired woman nodded slowly. “That would be I.”

“Would it be alright, ma’am, for us to come inside?” He asked

The hesitation was there once more, but she moved out of the way and granted them entry. “What’s going on?”

“We just have a few questions about the Endless Night fire ten years ago.”

Kyuhyun winced when Jinjoo blanched and became shades paler than what was healthy, but the dark haired man was forced to zone out of his surroundings when he felt the familiar presence of his brother in his head. Anything?

I’m afraid nothing substantial and legitimate yet, brother. Changmin replied. But Heechul hyung h

Chapter 66: Just wanted to say thank you for the update and thanks for coming back. I absolutely love the tone, style, character development you've skillfully expressed. I know real life and lack of inspiration can make it hard to create, but I will wait patiently, whether it's two months or ten years.
