Suddenly

Trouble in Paradise

"Again, again, again!" chants Himchan, as the two of us exit the place. "Yejin-ah, let’s go on that one again!"

I contemplate on his suggestion for a bit, but then eventually shake my head at him. "Hmm, I'm actually getting a little bored of it," I state.

But Himchan doesn't like this one bit, as his sunny grin instantly drops into one of gloominess. "How is that even possible?!" he exclaims, looking bewildered.

My eyes suddenly spot Yongguk making his way over to us, (as we were unfortunately separated from him by a massive crowd of school kids) and an idea suddenly strikes me. "Hey, how about you accompany Yongguk instead?" I casually offer.

Only being able to hear the end part, confusion appears on the said male's face, as he looks from Himchan and me. "Sorry, what's happening?" he asks.

I then begin to explain to him about Himchan wanting to go on the ride once more, and that maybe he could sit with him instead, since I'm not in the mood for the rollercoaster, with sharp turns. Yongguk blinks at me for a while, as Himchan is soundlessly protesting to my idea in the background, and...what Yongguk ends up choosing to do, makes me raise my eyebrows, as Himchan gawks at him.

"Sure, I don't mind," says Yongguk. He then turns to face the other blonde; "Himchan-sshi, let’s go."

Himchan watches him for a bit, before gradually straightening himself up. "Alright," he lightly says, and it's only then, that I spot something strange in that nonchalant tone of voice of his.

My eyes begin to flicker from Yongguk to Himchan, and the more I study the two, the more I can't help but feel as though they're secretly communicating to one another, in some strange telepathic way. There's a strange tension in the air, as the two (much too calm) males begin to head towards the ride once more, and as I watch their backs walking away together, I start to wonder if this is such a good idea.

Shaking that thought to the side, I then start to make my way over towards one of the monitor screens on the wall. My eyes then scan over for a certain screen there, and when I see the two blondes that I'm looking for, I smile a little. The screen is currently showing the two getting into a cart together, and seeing the pouty look on Himchan's face, I can't help but laugh a bit. I watch as he repeatedly points to a certain spot, and his action makes Yongguk shake his head, before reluctantly sitting there. Their cart soon takes off, and a new couple then appears on the screen, being showed to get ready for their cart.

To pass the time, I then walk over to the section where you can see the photos that the ride would secretly take, just before your cart would dive down that ginormous hill. Various pictures of different couples can be seen, and when I manage to spot myself with Himchan, my eyes linger around the image for a bit, to examine the photo. Our eyes are creased, as a huge smile is on our faces, to show how we were screaming with laughter, throughout the whole thing.

The happy expression on our faces makes me soften, because I think it's one of those rare moments, where we're (actually) both content with each other.

This new thought makes me smile slightly, and, taking out my wallet, I then ask the worker there for a printed copy of it. The photo doesn't take long, and after I give her the money, I look at the Polaroid in my hands for another second longer, just before neatly tucking it away into my purse.

“Unnie!” calls out a sudden female’s voice. “Yejin unnie, is that you?”

A young high school girl’s smiling face welcomes my confused one, as soon as I turn around to look at her.

“Omo!” she giddily squeals, upon clearly seeing my face. Her eyes then turn into delightful crinkles, as she then gives her nearest friend an excited slap on the arm. “I told you it’s her!” she loudly whispers.

Extremely baffled at how these three girls seem to know who I am, I then quirk an eyebrow up at them; "Do I...know you girls?"

The girl, who approached me, girlishly covers , as an attempt to silence down her giggling. "We're your fans!" she merrily reveals.

Shocked, I'm taken aback by this, and it makes my eyes round in surprise.

Yongguk would sometimes get a person or two coming up to him from here and there, to tell him how much they love and appreciate his and DJ-ing skills, so it wasn't so surprising to see random strangers approach him, any more.

But...to see someone recognise me out in the open, is a little unusual.

"Which club are performing at next?" pipes up the girl with a simple braid.

"And will you be singing with Yongguk oppa?" adds in the girl with a high pony-tail.

I blink for a bit, still feeling somewhat amazed by what is happening. "I—"

My sentence is suddenly cut off, when the three girls go to cover their mouths, as another audible gasp escapes out from them in unison. I feel perplexed, and when I notice how their gaze seems to be focused on something behind me, I then turn around, to see Yongguk blinking at them, along with Himchan. Yongguk's eyes quickly dart over to me, and in that split second, I can tell that he’s just as puzzled as I am, before returning his attention back to the three school girls.

“Omo!” exclaims the pony-tail girl. She then nudges her friend, the one with the braid, and then loudly whispers to her; "Is my hair okay?"

The trio continue to squeal some more and this successfully stuns Himchan, Yongguk, and I, into a further silence.

"Whoa, I can't believe they're here together!"

“See, I told you, BangJin is real!”

“You know, unnie’s purse is really cute; I wonder where she bought that?”

“Hey, who’s that other oppa with them? He’s quite handsome.”

“But not as handsome as Yongguk oppa!"

"Aish, you're just biased."

As their conversation continues on amongst themselves, two other students appear out of nowhere, to join them.

"Hey, why haven't you guys been picking up your phone?" questions a boy. "The teacher says that—"

And just like that, the girl who had come up to me, blurts out me and Yongguk's name, which causes some recognition to appear on the other two boy's faces.

"Whoa, you mean this is that hot noona, and that awesome hyung, that we saw at Infinitize?" gawks the male.

My eyes happen to glance over at Himchan when this was being said, and I swear I can see an angry vein pop up on his temple, with how he's dangerously squinting his eyes at the two sparkly-eyed boys.

"Noona, can you come on a ride with me?" asks the boy, who's wearing a cap.

His friend then shoot a question over to Yongguk; "Hyung, can you verse me in that hammer challenge?"

The student’s excited voices soon begin to overlap over one another, making me look over at Yongguk, silently asking him what we should do. In return, he gives me an uncertain shrug, but before the group can speak any more, I feel something grab a hold of my wrist.

And the next thing I know, Yongguk and I are being forced to run, as Himchan is dragging us away from those teenagers, who are now looking extremely puzzled.

"Hey, where is that oppa taking them?"

"Noona, come back!"

"Hey hyung, what about our hammer challenge?"

"Unnie, are you and Yongguk oppa dating?"

"Wait, which club are performing at next?!"

"I hope you'll be rocking at VIXX!"

Himchan, provoked by their remarks, turns over his shoulder, to retort back to each comment himself. "For starters, I'm taking them both some place far away from you all!" he begins. "And you, cap boy!" he grumpily yells out, with narrowed eyes. "Get your own noona, can't you see that she's obviously taken?!" Himchan then moves onto the boy's friend; "And I would love to give you this hyung, but Yejin won't be very happy if I do that, so—oh! And they're not dating, you crazy girl; where the heck did you even get that idea, anyway?! And as for that VIXX club, you can forget about that!"

The students all give us a weird look and I can't help but mentally groan to myself, for Himchan's absurd behaviour.

They don't follow us, and when Himchan finally decides to stop and let go of both Yongguk and I, we then all stand there to catch back our breaths.

And as we do so, Himchan seems to be the first one to miraculously recover, as he then goes to give my arm a firm poke. "Yah," he rudely starts off; "Why didn't you tell me that you have fans?!"

I can't help but sigh at his accusing tone of voice. "I didn't even know myself," I mutter. "And besides, why are you so angry, when they were completely harmless?"

"Because!" exclaims Himchan, with a frown. "I just don't like them."

I shake my head at him with yet another sigh. "There are a lot of things that you don't like," I point out.

"But I like you," he quietly mumbles.

This stops me from saying anything else, so then I turn my gaze over to Yongguk, to see him waving at someone. I look over, and it's that the same group of students that Himchan had just forcefully pulled us away from, standing from afar. My lips automatically curve upwards at them, when the two giddy girls go to wave at me. Their excited squeals soon quiet down though, when a middle aged woman suddenly walks up to them. It's most likely their teacher, because the group are now looking rather nervous, as they seem to be lectured by the lady, which, eventually then leads to them all leaving elsewhere.

"You know, this is the first time, that I've actually had to physically run away, from people who just want to say hi me," says Yongguk, looking half apologetic, and half amused.

"Same here," I mumble, making sure to give Himchan a pointed look.

I know Himchan has caught my glare, but is pretending to be oblivious to it, as he's now idly kicking a random pebble on the concrete.

The three of us gradually decide to move on into the amusement park, in search for more rides. Rollercoasters, small, spinning rides, rooms filled with mirrors; we go through a whole bunch of things together, amazingly having a lot of fun. There was a ride that made me feel a little woozy though, where not only did the entire thing spin in a haphazardly way, but the cart that you had to sit inside, was also spinning, making the entire ride extra spiny. I seemed to be the only one affected, because Himchan and Yongguk treated it as though it were a refreshing walk in the park.

Himchan would tease me about it, so when we entered the House of Mirrors, where he had somehow managed to get lost in the maze of reflections, and continuously bump into the walls of glass here and there, while searching for Yongguk and I, I couldn't help but back. The three of us later on went on the Dodge 'Em cars, and although it was just fun and games, I couldn't help but think that the 'bumps' between Yongguk and Himchan, were...let’s just say that it looked as though the two appeared to have this secret intention, of 'accidentally' pushing one another off of this planet, with their constant collision.

The log flumes were exciting, especially the anticipated parts of our log whooshing down the slope. Yongguk and I liked it very much, but Himchan kept complaining that the random water fountains were constantly spraying his head, and only his head. After that, we then headed over onto the swinging ship, where Himchan had used the crazy ride to dry his hair, as though he were in a shampoo add of some sort. Some of the people in the ride gave him weird looks, as he didn't seem to be affected by the swinging at all, and it made me laugh.

After a couple of more rides, it was only a matter of time before I was starting to feel a little hungry, and it was as though the two had both read my mind, because without warning, the sight of a drink and a corn dog both suddenly appear before my eyes.

"What the?" I mumble to myself, while taking a step back.

The drink is in Himchan's hand, while the corn dog is from Yongguk.

And it looks as though they weren't expecting one another to both hand me the editable item at the exact same time, because I then see them turn their gazes towards each other, with a look of surprise, which then easily turns into an unamused expression.

"Yejin is obviously thirsty," says Himchan, with a roll of his eyes.

Yongguk frowns at this, looking as though he's resisting the urge to throw his food at Himchan's face. "Actually, I think she's more hungry than thirsty," he remarks.

They both then turn their attention back to me, and then offer out their item again; "You're thirsty/hungry, right?"

Speaking in unison then makes them both snap their gazes right back to each other, as their intense glaring competition ignites once more.

Stumped, I am at a loss of what to do, in fear of making the situation even worst. "Um..." I then slowly reach out for both items; "You both know that I can eat and drink at the same time, right?"

The two don't say anything to this, but I don't exactly give them the chance to respond, as I then quickly thank them, turn around, and then begin to lead the way.

"Ha, you see that?" speaks Himchan's smug voice. "She took my drink first, so she likes me better."

"That might be true," agrees Yongguk, rather casually. "But she's eating my corn dog now, so..."

Yongguk's pleased comment silences Himchan for a second.

"Shut up," he eventually retorts. "Your argument is invalid, because I'm still Yejin's favourite."

I can't help but silently shake my head at their silly conversation, as I continue to nibble on the food given to me.

Because I guess what they say is somewhat true, that boys will be boys, for a very long time...

———————————————

Our day gradually comes to an end, as the three of us are now making our way out of the amusement park, and because we left through the other entrance, instead of going through the one that we had originally come through, we have to walk through this park first, in order to reach Yongguk's car.

"So did you have fun?" asks Yongguk.

A smile automatically appears on my face. "Of course!" I reply, with a beam. My shoulders then sag down a little; "Except for that lady beetle one."

Out of nowhere, I suddenly feel something drape itself around my shoulders. It turns out to be an arm, and that arm then pushes my head to the left, making me lightly bump against a chest. My eyes blink for a bit, but then they flatten, when I hear Himchan begin to speak.

"There-there," he mockingly coos. "The scary part's over now."

I duck down, and remove myself away from his hold. "It wasn't scary, I just don't do well with washing machine-like rides," I grumble.

Himchan snickers to himself. "Yeah, that's what they all say," he drones, rather sarcastically.

"But it's true though," adds in Yongguk. "Yejin honestly can't do well with those rides, but she can easily take on lightning speed rollercoasters...something that I still find really weird." He then chuckles upon seeing the frown on my face. "But it's a good kind of weird," he assures, still somewhat laughing; "In some kind of way?"

Himchan then blinks at me. "Really?" he says, genuinely looking confused. "It actually makes you feel like vomiting, but you still went on, anyway?"

"Well, you wouldn't stop whining, and I didn't want to be a party-pooper for—"

Suddenly, Himchan's eyes begin to sparkle. "Aww, so you went on for my sake?!" he concludes, rather animatedly. I give him a queer look and am about to shake my head no, when he (without warning), envelopes me into a sudden hug. "Aww," he coos. "I knew you loved me!"

Himchan proceeds to shower me with his physical contact, all while making sure to smother the heck out of me with his so called 'affection', that I only think is exaggerated out like this, to irk Yongguk.

And I think it's somewhat working, because I swear I just saw Yongguk's jaw tighten, a sure sign of him gritting his teeth together.

"Himchan, stop," says my muffled voice.

This surprisingly gets him to pull away a little, and when he sees the serious look that I'm giving him, it causes him to exaggerate a sigh. "Tsk, fine," he reluctantly says. "I guess the Himbear can always show you his love when we're alone."

His bluntness causes me to choke out an awkward cough, as Yongguk is now giving us both an inquisitive look. It happens really quickly, but Himchan flashes Yongguk a cocky smirk, just before returning his gaze to the front. The heavy atmosphere that Himchan’s managed to make within a few seconds, now hangs in the air, as we all continue walking forward. When I glance over at Yongguk's blank face, it makes me uncomfortably swallow, but when my eyes flicker over to Himchan's artificial air of innocence, my lips frown in disapproval.

But the stillness of this awkwardness is only temporary, as a female's voice is suddenly heard from behind.

"Yongguk?" queries a rather melodic voice.

We all stop to turn around to face the person, and just like that, the tension now morphs into a giant ball of surprise and confusion.

It takes me a second longer to figure out who she is, but once it clicks through, my eyes widen, and I'm not sure how to feel. Her once straightened aquamarine hair is now slightly wavy, and dyed to a chocolate brown colour. She's no longer sporting a front fringe, as it's now grown out long enough, to have it split down from the middle, so that it can be tied in with the rest of her hair. The elegant aura that I remember always feeling from her radiating presence is still there, despite how her hair is now styled into two innocent looking low pig-tails, which, greatly match well with her floral sundress.

And as I try to digest the thought of this extremely unexpectedly appearance, I can feel this bizarre (yet somewhat familiar) unsettling sensation stir up inside of me, when Yongguk ever so gently, breathes out her name.

Because I absolutely have no idea how to feel, at the sight of Song Jieun, standing a couple of meters away from us.
