Jessica offered to help Donghae’s mother to wash the dishes. The middle-aged woman refused at first, saying that a guest shouldn’t be doing any of the chores, but Jessica reasoned that it was her way of saying thank you for the meal. Before she could say anything, Jessica started doing the dishes, so she just chuckled while shaking her head before joining her.
“Auntie, the food you cooked was really delicious.” As her eyes were focusing on the dishes and her hands were scrubbing the dishes, she smiled.
Mrs. Lee looked at her with a smile before looking back at the dishes. “You really think so? That really means a lot to me. Thank you, dear.” She took this chance to get to know the girl, so she just kept the conversation going. “So you and Donghae started off as co-workers, then turned into lunch buddies, right?”
“Yes, that was how our story started.” A thin smile formed on her lips as she remembered.
“And then you thought she hated you and you had a crush on her, right?” Mr. Lee looked at his son who was sitting right beside him.
Donghae closed his eyes and threw his head back as her remembered the earlier days. “That was what I thought, dad, then our boss explained to me that she was just quiet.”
“Then you just became friendlier to her and no longer thought that she was Maleficent?”
“We ate lunch everyday when my grandparents left for a trip and we started chatting more, but I still didn’t talk a lot.” Jessica smiled at the memory. “Donghae really made an effort to become friendly.”
“Did you ever think that you two would be close?” Mrs. Lee was asking like a host of a talk show as she wanted to get all the details from the girl herself.
“Not a chance.” Donghae looked at his dad, then let his eyebrows meet in the middle as he was in thought. “Probably a 1% chance? I never really expected that we’ll be like best buddies.”
Mr. Lee smiled at his son. “You never even imagined that you two would date?”
“It was never impossible. There was still a very slight chance in the scale that it could happen, that’s what I thought. I do think about it sometimes, but I also thought that it was impossible. He is the only friend that I had that I have confided to and I feel really happy when I’m with him.”
Mrs. Lee smiled upon hearing those words. “You enjoyed his company?”
“A lot! Of curse, I do.”
“Yeah, I figured. You even spend weekends in Seoul a lot.”
Donghae looked at his father apologetically.
“Don’t worry, son. We’re not holding it against you.” He smiled and wrapped his arm around his son for reassurance.
“My husband and I would even be happy whenever he would tell us that you two were together.” Mrs. Lee giggled laughed loudly. “As long as our son’s happy, we’re more than happy.”
“Sorry again, auntie.” She removed her gloves before placing her arms beside her and bowed her head to the older woman.
Mrs. Lee removed her gloves before grabbing Jessica’s arms. She had a huge smile on her face. “I already told you, dear. You don’t have to be.”
They were finally done with washing the dishes and made their way to the living room. As they walked, their conversation didn’t end just yet.
“You really had no idea that he has feelings for you?” She looked up at Jessica who was a few inches taller than her.
Donghae shook his head as his lips were pressed together. He turned to look at his father to answer his question. “Not at all.”
“The confession was shocking, right? Mr. Lee’s eyebrows were raised.
Jessica sat on the couch across from Donghae’s mom. She nodded before giggling as she remembered that day that was not too long ago. “We had an unusual way of finding out.”
Mrs. Lee’s eyes were already crescents because of her smile. “And it turned out to be happy, right?”
“It was like Christmas day, I guess.” Donghae’s smile was wide as he nodded.
Mr. Lee only watched his son’s reaction and chuckled at him. “Let’s go back in.” He looked up at the sky and notice that it was darker. “It might rain soon. You know what son, I’m really proud of you.” He smiled at his son before patting him on the back. The father and son walked back inside and joined the women in the living room.
The four of them had a lovely chat and Donghae’s stories and pictures from the past were revealed. From the cute ones to the most embarrassing ones, it sure
