Chapter TWENTY-NINE

Mark managed to catch up with Soojung and now they were walking side by side, towards the brightly lit Ferris wheel. It was getting dark and Soojung gazed longingly at the huge amusement ride.

He noticed that she was looking at the ride and smiled.

“You want to ride that?”

She turned to look at him and nodded with puppy eyes.

“Can we?”

Mark nodded and Soojung grabbed his wrist, dragging him towards the queue. He chuckled and allowed her to pull him along.

They managed to get into a gondola alone and she sat down. She kept her hands on her laps as she sighed in content.

Mark stopped looking around when she sat down, and moved to settle down next to her.

“You know,” she started softly.

“Hmm?” He looked at her.

“The last time I was at a Ferris wheel was that day I saw Chanyeol with Sora.”

“Soojung-ah…”

“And the last time I was in one, Chanyeol asked me to be his girlfriend.”

Mark lowered his gaze to her hands and reached out to hold them.

“Your hands are freezing.”

Soojung let out a small puff of air and smiled.

“But now, I’m with you.” She finished.

Mark looked at her again, with adoration in his eyes. He absentmindedly caressed the back of her hands with his thumbs.

“Are you okay? About being in a Ferris wheel?” He asked.

“Yeah, I just…” She sniffled.

He let go of her hands and quickly shrugged off his coat, giving it to Soojung.

“But you…”

“It’s okay. I have to keep you warm.”

“Thanks,” she grinned and snuggled closer to him.

During the whole ride, Mark had this irresistible urge to tell Soojung how he felt.

“Soojung-ah…”

“Hmm?”

“I…”

She sat up, turning to face him.

“Yeah?”

“I… Nothing.”

Soojung knew what Mark was trying to do.

He looked like he had something to say to her the whole night. She was curious as to what, but she didn’t press him on it.

The gondola reached the ground and the both of them stepped out.

Mark trailed after Soojung and she couldn’t take his awkwardness anymore.

“Do you have something to say to me?”

She stopped and spun around, making Mark pause in his steps.

“Me? Nothing…”

“Are you sure?”

She took a step towards him.

“Yeah… Yeah, I’m sure.”

Soojung pursed her lips and nodded.

“Okay fine. Let’s go then, I’m still cold.”

She spun on her heels and began walking again.

Mark looked at Soojung's back and finally came to a conclusion. He pulled on her wrist and spun Soojung around to face him.

"What is it?" She asked gently.

Mark gulped and scratched his nape.

"Uh... I..."

Soojung looked at him and cocked her head.

"Well?"

"I... Will you...? Uh..."

Soojung smiled.

She tipped toed and kissed Mark's cheek.

"Talk to me when you are ready to ask that question." She said, as if she knew what he wanted to ask.

She sighed with a small smile and walked, leaving Mark behind.

Soojung was a good 10 steps away from him when he took a deep breath.

"PARK SOOJUNG!"

Mark yelled out, startling the passers-by around them. The said girl whipped around in shock.

"WILL YOU..." Mark shouted.

He took a deep breath and glanced around before looking back at Soojung.

"...BE MY GIRLFRIEND?"

Time stood still.

Then someone cheered.
