Two years of college passed quickly. Jenny went back every summer and made sure that she kept up her grades and made her parents proud. Kyuhyun had decided to give up pursuing his lawyer career and had joined a boy band.

            His decision to go into the entertainment world had caused great controversy and many nights were spent with him crying to her, asking her for advice. Jenny had helped to provide him with the strength to carry on and fulfill his dream. Now he was getting popular with Super Junior.

            “I’ll be coming back for spring break!” Jenny told him one night in early April.

            “Great, now you get to see your super star best friend.”

            She snorted. “I guess I’m still better because now my math skills are at a higher level than yours.”

            “Not a chance! I’m still going to school. Trust me, it’ll take a lot more than me joining an idol group for you to beat me.”

            They chatted for a while longer and he finally had to end the call. “I need to go. They want me to help host a radio show. Listen to it when you have time! Sukira, Kiss the Radio okay?” She promised to listen and they hung up.

            The show was funny and Kyuhyun sounded like he was having the time of his life. He had opened up a lot more after his beginning hardships with his training days. They ended late so she turned had to turn it off. The twelve hour difference meant that she had to go to class.

            Sometime in the middle of the day, Jenny’s classes ended. She went back to her dorm and found her cell phone blinking with several missed calls. They were all from her mother. Fearing that something had happened, she called them back, waiting anxiously.

            “Jenny! Thank goodness. Kyuhyun’s in an accident. He is in critical condition. Something about his ribs and lungs. They’re trying to revive him right now.”

            The only words that registered in her head was that he was in critical condition. Without thinking, she ran to her laptop and bought a ticket back to Korea. Her best friend was dying and she needed to be there.

            “You didn’t have to come.” Kyuhyun’s mother was trying to be polite but her tears made it clear that she was grateful for Jenny’s presence.

            “How is he doing?”

            “He’s still in a coma. The doctors say that he’s going to be unresponsive for a while. Three other members are involved too but two of them were discharged yesterday. It’s just Kyuhyun. They say he suffered broken ribs as well as lung damage.” She started to cry, thinking about her son’s future.

            Jenny walked into the room and saw him lying there, broken and unmoving. She ran a hand over his hair and felt the urge to slap him awake. This was not the Kyuhyun she knew. She his face and tried to contain her tears.

            Outside, she heard the doctor talk to Mr. Cho. “I have two choices. I can either go through a more invasive and dangerous surgery or I can go through his throat. That may damage his vocal box, but the other may cause a sudden shock to his body.”

            Jenny held still. Both options seemed dangerous. “The kid’s voice is his life. If I allow you to mess it up for him, then what type of father would I be?”

            She looked down at Kyu and cried. For the years before his debut, he had been on poor terms with his father because of this. Mr. Cho had been against Kyuhyun doing anything but be a lawyer. And now, he has finally accepted it.

            Jenny stayed by his side throughout the entire time. When the surgery was happening, she waited in the waiting room. Her head swayed as she tried to stay awake. A few hours later, the doctor came out. “The operation was a success. He should be awake tomorrow morning.”
