Chapter 2 - The Lengths I Go

A Thousand Tales - A Collection of One Shots and Short Stories

Heechul in a breath and reminded himself to breathe. So the little girl can be a vixen as well. He chuckled as he pictured her face when she smirked and her lips. Oh she thinks she’s so clever doesn’t she? He couldn’t explain it. But there’s something about that tall tomboyish girl that drew him to her. She’s detached and honestly a clumsy, silly goose. But there’s something endearing. Maybe it’s her large eyes or it’s the way she always has something smart to say.

He shifted in his seat and grinned widely, not caring that Ryeowook was staring at him curiously. “Hyung are you okay?”

He only nodded. “Oh yeah, oh yes.”

When the concert was over, he stood up from his seat and went to the backroom. He walked rapidly down the hallways and could hear the squeal of girls as they teased each other in their dressing room. To be honest, he loves Girl’s Generation. They are a group of fun girls, with great personalities. But they were so easy to figure out, so easy to please. They acted the part of the classic female idol and just weren’t interesting enough for him.

But then there’s Sooyoung. She can be just as loud as the rest of them, but she had this detachment that made her very intriguing to be around. She had a brass, snappy voice and adorable cheeks. Her hair, which she’s not scared to keep short, sets off her large eyes and she was tall.

He walked into the room and immediately the girls surrounded him once more. He shrugged them off gently with an apologetic smile and they pouted. But he motioned towards Sooyoung and Yoona couldn’t help but giggle. She knew that for weeks her oppa has been plagued with thoughts of their resident weirdo. She took Jessica’s hand and led her away to where they could observe from a safe distance.

He slid up to her and tapped her left shoulder. She twisted her head to find… nothing. Rolling her eyes, she faced right to find nothing. What? Sooyoung turned around and was prepared to growl at whatever member was messing with her. Instead she was face to face with Heechul. She took a step back and he held out a hand to steady her.

A look of slight irritation entered her eyes and he couldn’t help but laugh. “So, I see you’re learning from the master. That trick up there on stage, what was that about?”

Sooyoung shook her head to sweep the hair away from her eyes. “What in the world are you talking about? Run Devil Run is a very come hither song. I was just going with the theme. What did you think I was doing?”

He shrugged. “I don’t know, you tell me. Was there any reason why you happened to be looking over at me when you did it?”

She let out a loud laugh. “Oh, ahaha, you’re a conceited one. I was actually staring at Eunhyuk-oppa. I like his red hair very much. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to change. We’re going out to celebrate later.”

He stuck out an arm as if to stop her but let it drop. “Okay, if you say so.” And he left, leaving Sooyoung with a hundred unanswered questions.

Heechul was thoroughly confused. It wasn’t often, if it did happen, for anyone to reject him. But that was clearly what Sooyoung was doing. She was outright shutting down his advances, and that hurts. He couldn’t possibly imagine why. Maybe there really is something wrong with her head.

He walked up to Yuri and whispered, “Where are you going to celebrate?”

Yuri smiled knowingly. “Oh it’s the Korean BBQ place that just opened up. It’s a few blocks down.”

Heechul stored the information in his head and walked back to where his very curious members were waiting. But rather than answer their pestering questions, he waved goodbye with a quick, “I’ll be home late,” and went to a nearby toy shop.

The amount of effort Heechul was putting into this baffled even himself, but he found himself smiling as he examined the stuffed animals, and saw a baby pink pig. Considering how they all made fun of her for being the biggest eater, he found this appropriate and bought a bouquet of flowers to go with it.

An hour later, he found himself peering into the windows of the new restaurant, feeling very foolish. She better be worth it. This stalking business is enough of a blow to his ego. They were situated in the far left corner of the room and he could see Sooyoung standing on a chair heralding her members with a funny story. He smiled to himself. What a dork.

Once or twice, he saw a passing pedestrian give him weird looks but he ignored them, keeping his attention solely on Sooyoung. When dessert was being served, he pushed his way through the door. Yoona saw him first and he placed a finger against his lips, shushing her.

When he reached the table, he slipped his hands around Sooyoung’s eyes and felt her squirm underneath his hold. “Ya, this is not cool. Whoever it is, I’ll kick you so hard it’s going to hurt.” With that she elbowed him in the gut.

“Oomph,” he let go of her and doubled over. The flowers fell into her lap and so did the stuffed toy. She stared at the objects in front of her before shyly raising her eyes to look at him. But when she saw it was him, she threw the pig in his face.

“That’s not funny! You got the wrong girl, you pabo!”

Now Heechul was furious. What in the world did she mean “the wrong girl?” He raised his eyebrows and growled, “What is that supposed to mean?”

Sooyoung laughed. “This is a joke right? I mean, you like Yoona, Yuri, anybody but me. Guys, my birthday is in a few more months, this is still too early.”

But the rest of the girls looked just as shocked as she did. Then it hit her. Kim Heechul likes her. Her, crazy, obnoxious Choi Sooyoung. There was only one test she could give him.

“You, get up on this table and dance Oh! with me. Now.” She saw him blanch and look nervously around the restaurant. Every one of the patrons was staring by now. Then he looked at her and sighed.

He hopped gingerly on the table, grabbed the flowers and stuffed pig to use as his pompoms. “Oh, oh, oh, oh, Sooyoung saranghae~” He sang, much to the delight of their watching audience. Sooyoung blushed and laughed. He really was adorable doing it. When he finished, he grabbed her and whispered, “It’s your turn. Do Sorry Sorry and apologize for making me suffer that.”

She obliged and it wasn’t long before the two of them started having a dance battle by themselves. She heard Taeyeon get up and whisper, “We should leave this four-dimensional  couple alone now.”

The moment they left, Heechul grabbed her arm and led her outside. “We’re a couple. Look at that.”

Sooyoung swatted his arm and was about to protest when he silenced her with a kiss. “Be quiet. I’m always right. That’s rule one of this relationship…”
