Ever since that night, Yoona and Kyuhyun were no longer friends. Oh yes, Kyuhyun had tried to contact her, but she had changed her number and vowed to never open the door to him. Her parents were bewildered at this sudden change in their daughter, but made no comment. Yoona, on the other hand, found herself liking Changmin more and more.

                The two were sitting underneath the shade of a generous tree and laughing at the jokes they were sharing. Changmin did not go back to his nerdy look but kept his camera with him at all times. “Smile, Yoonie!”

                She struck a cheesy pose and winked at the camera, sure she looked ridiculous. But Changmin smiled and gently lowered the camera, leaning in to pull Yoona into a kiss. She froze a bit, not sure how to respond. But he was soft and searching and she yielded. When they broke apart, Yoona smiled dazedly at him and Changmin waved a hand in her face.

                “Earth to Yoona! Calling Ms. Im Yoona back from whatever alien planet she just traveled to.”

                “Gah!” she jumped on top of Changmin and carefully placed his camera elsewhere before tickling him. “I am from the Tickle Planet! Tickle, tickle, tickle, tickleeeee.” Changmin guffawed and used his strong hands to pick Yoona up away from him but her legs s under his and she started tickling him behind the knee. “You can’t ever escape my wrath.”

                There was a loud cough from above them and Yoona looked up and nearly choked. Changmin sat up and placed Yoona against his lap and stared up at the intruder. It was Kyuhyun and he looked tired, tired and dead, as if all the life had been out of him.

                Ever since the night of the party, Kyuhyun had been unable to get Yoona’s face out of his head. It was as if she had drugged him with her every essence. He could not get past the disapproving look she had given him when she saw him with Jessica. He could not seem to forget the sensual way she danced against Changmin and the irritating urge he had to rip the latter to shreds. It had taken him a few weeks of trying to contact her and being rejected to realize the inevitable. It was true. He, Cho Kyuhyun, is helplessly in love with Im Yoona.

                And so he had tried to work up the courage to tell her, but she never seemed to be available when he called. Her home was no longer welcome to him, and whenever he saw her, he was with Jessica. But now, Jessica has gone back to America and Kyuhyun was desperate. His parents have noticed the decline within him and he knew that if he kept it quiet any longer, he would die.

                So he decided that Changmin or not, he would tell her now. He approached the two and felt a sharp piercing to his heart as he witnessed their flirtatious actions. “Yoona.” He only had eyes for the slender brunette and his throat constricted as he saw Changmin’s arm tighten around her waist.

                “I’m sorry. I’m an idiot. I acted stupidly and now I’m afraid I may have lost you. Yoona, I know it took me a long time to realize, but I really do love you.”

                Yoona didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. The cheesy confession would have made her happy had it came one month before. Instead, it only made her feel the pangs of regret and what-if. She felt Changmin stiffen next to her, unsure of how she would respond.

                Kyuhyun dropped on his knees. “Please, forgive me. You know that we fit together. I’ve known you since forever and I honestly love you. I know you may be skeptical, but look at how much it’s been tearing me apart. Please Yoona.” Then he uncharacteristically began to cry.

                Yoona fought back the tears that rose as she watched the boy she has known all her life cower in front of her and beg for her. Never has she seen him look so lost, so alone. Every fiber of her heart wanted her to break out of Changmin’s grasp and go to Kyuhyun. But in her heart she knew. They have known each other for forever, as he put it. And it had taken him this long to realize. Did she really want to hurt the boy who has realized her beauty and appreciated long before this best friend had?

                She reached a hand out and Changmin surreptitiously let go. This action broke Yoona’s heart. Even without hearing her decision, he had assumed the worst. Not only has he assumed the worst, he has already accepted it.

                She ran her hands through Kyuhyun’s hair and he looked up at her with so much hope, it broke her heart. His eyes begged her for an answer and she cupped the tears that were still spilling from his chocolate brown eyes. His perfect lips started forming his question.

                Then she withdrew. Yoona took back her hands and shook her head. She closed her eyes and shook her head so she wouldn’t have to see the hurt in his eyes. She didn’t want to see the way he would take her rejection. It wasn’t his fault it was too little, too late. He could not expect to come in now and take her away from Changmin.

                She reached out a hand and picked Kyuhyun up. “Go, Kyu. Go and live a happy life. Don’t be tortured by me anymore. It’s okay. I forgive you. We can still be friends. You need to be happy, please.”

                There was a sharp intake of breath as Changmin expressed his disbelief. He had won. In the game that he knew from the beginning he had no fighting chance, he had won. He looked at Kyuhyun and saw the hurt, saw the despair. And he wanted to do what he knew was right.

                “No, Yoona. You belong with him. You should be with him. Look at how much pain he’s in.”

                Yoona turned to stare at Changmin and for a second Changmin thought she would change her mind and listen to him. But then Yoona traced a finger down his cheek and smiled up at him. “No. I belong with you.”

                Kyuhyun, upon hearing this, turned to walk away. He was an idiot. He acted too late, and now he had to sacrifice the consequences. When he had walked far enough so that they wouldn’t see him, he took out the stash of pills he had prepared in case things had gone wrong. He smiled wryly to himself as he looked out towards the Han River.

                It was a beautiful day, but it was a cruel, cruel world. Kyuhyun was ready to say goodbye.

                When Yoona and Changmin found his still body, Yoona cried. But in her heart, she knew she had done the right thing. “You’re an idiot, Cho Kyuhyun. But I still love you.”

I'm so sorry guys for making the ending be so dark... But I hope you will enjoy it anyway.
