“D to the O to the N is the masterpiece!” Heechul screamed, throwing his head back and shouting with all his energy. The veins on his neck popped as he exerted all his strength. The girl standing next to him glared at him and tugged on his arm.

                “Ya, shut up! You’re so embarrassing.” Everywhere on the grass of Battery Park, foreign tourists as well as bustling businessmen turned to look their way. A little girl walking by giggled.

                He opened one eye and snorted. “They’re just jealous of my amazing vocal abilities. You stop it. I’ll sing if I want to. Besides, if I don’t practice how am I supposed to be good when I audition? I need to be able to sing my heart out.”

                Lia placed a finger over his lips. “Yes, but be quiet. We’re out in public. I swear I don’t know how you survive in Korea. You seem to have no social conventions whatsoever.”

                 He pouted and dragged her across to stand next to the railings overlooking the Hudson River. He pointed at a couple standing near a tree. The guy had shaggy hair and was stealthily stalking something. The two watched them curiously.

                The girl got up and followed him, laughing and pointing. “That way! No, Yesung, you need to follow it more carefully. If you go too fast, it’ll hide back in its shell.”

                “Shh, Helen, you’re speaking too loudly. You’ll hurt his sensitivities.”

                Heechul rolled his eyes. “Now those two are the weird ones.” Lia observed the two and watched as the male got on his hands and knees and began to imitate the turtle. She smiled to herself. Maybe he had a point.

                “But, I’m tempted to join in,” Heechul whispered. She gave him a horrified look and he chuckled. He threw back his head and started to belt out lines to a recent trot song he had heard on the radio. The crawling guy looked up and seemed to be personally offended.

                “Shh!” He put a finger to his lips and glared sternly. The girl next to him raised an eyebrow and she shook her head. He had just scolded her for being loud and now he was about to embarrass himself by yelling at a random stranger who looked just as sassy as she could be.

                Helen nudged Yesung with her foot and put a finger to her lips. “Don’t pick fights with people you don’t know,” she hissed.

                Yesung stood up and looked personally offended when Heechul didn’t stop singing. “I told you to stop singing. My turtle has sensitive ears. And you’re scaring all the bugs away.”

                Lia stood off to the side and wanted to hide as Heechul gave the other guy an equally vicious glare. “Well, I happen to think I sing well. Your turtle should be lucky to be serenaded by me.”

                This caused Yesung to fling back his head and belt out the same exact lines to the trot song the latter had been singing. A group of tourists stopped to stare and Helen hid her face in her hands.

                Heechul started throwing his head backwards and forwards, imitating the crazy style of rock stars. He began thrumming an imaginary guitar and screeched at the top of his lungs. Not to be outdone, Yesung placed his arms limply at his sides and began loosely shaking all his limbs in an imitation of an octopus dance.

                As if to retaliate, Heechul darted forward and snatched the turtle, placing it on his head and jerking it back and forth, imitating the snake charmer. Lia moved closer to Helen and started to pull her away. “Hi, I don’t know you but can we pretend we don’t know them?”

                Helen nodded and slowly backed away. “I knew Yesung was weird, but this, this thing in the middle of the streets is ridiculous.”

                “Yeah, we can always just walk away.” The two girls began to meander their way down the streets when they heard shouts behind them.

                Yesung and Heechul were running chasing them down. Heechul had his hands on his head as he tried to keep the turtle and Yesung was hopping and running.

                “Where do you think you guys are going?” They began to break out into song. It was random and Heechul’s voice was obnoxiously off key as he tried to out-sing Yesung.

                When they finally caught up, Yesung grabbed a glass bottle from his pocket and presented it to Helen. “Here, a bug for you my dear!”

                Heechul placed the turtle in Lia’s hands and said, “My gift is bigger and more alive than those fluttering flies you have in there.”

                The two girls stood there, unsure of what to say. Life couldn’t really get any more embarrassing than this. Yesung and Heechul both stood before them, smiling, with their eyes begging for some sort of forgiveness.

                Heechul stood in the middle of the road, not caring that he was blocking runners and began to do the Gee dance.

                “I’m so sorry, I was a pabo!” he sang and Yesung decided to join in. Onlookers were forming a circle around them and many were nudging one another and pointing and whispering.

                To save them any shreds of remaining dignity, the girls took them by the arm and dragged them off the streets.

                “I swear,” Lia groused, “you think you’re funny but you’re really, really not.”

                Heechul chuckled. “You know you love me,” he sang.
