A sinister melody resonated within the small noraebang room. Baek Hyun had entered random numbers on the karaoke machine even though he had lost his desire to sing. He kept watching the girl in front of him as she had lied down on the couch and fell asleep. Traces of tears were still visible on her face.   It has been a half hour ever since he made up his mind to call Nam Woo Hyun. A part of him hoped that the idol wouldn’t appear, so that he could proof to Hyun Mi that he wasn’t a good guy. Besides, he must be very busy with his idol life. Even when answering the call, he could tell Woo Hyun just woke up judging from his exhausted voice.   Since the duration of their noraebang session was almost over, Baek Hyun decided he no longer wanted him or Hyun Mi to wait. He figured that the idol wouldn’t appear in the end. With that, he got up on his feet, ready to wake Hyun Mi up.   At that moment, the door creaked open.   Baek Hyun looked up in surprise, standing face to face with the idol. He was panting out of breath, looking as if he had run a hundred miles. He noticed the idol wearing a cap to cover his messy hair, and not even bothering to cover up his face with a disguise at such an hour.   “Where’s she?” was Woo Hyun’s first question. He then saw Baek Hyun slightly making way, revealing the person he was looking for. Without saying anything, he immediately knelt down besides her while grasping her hands in his.
Baek Hyun observed his movements. He didn’t want to admit it, but he could see how the idol really cared about her. Perhaps it was at the same level as how Dong Woo would’ve cared for her. Once again, he felt defeated.
“What happened?” Woo Hyun asked, his eyes fixed on Hyun Mi.
“She passed out from drinking,” Baek Hyun answered.
“Drinking?!” Woo Hyun’s tone was filled with shock and worries. He glanced over to the coffee table and noticed a bottle with two small shot glasses next to it. “Why did you let her drink? You know she can’t drink!”
Of course it was something Baek Hyun was well aware of. He felt strange knowing that there was another guy who knew her as well as he did – or maybe even better. He watched the idol getting up while giving him a death glare. “What was I supposed to do? She was crying non-stop because she was thinking of you,” Baek Hyun replied.
At that, Woo Hyun was silenced.   “Anyway, now that you’re here, I trust that you will take care of her,” Baek Hyun said as he packed up his stuff and got ready to leave. He felt Woo Hyun’s arm on his shoulder, halting his movements.
“Even though I don’t know why you’re doing this, but thank you,” Woo Hyun told him with the most sincere voice.
Baek Hyun brushed his hand away and turned to face him. “I’m not doing this for you. I’m doing it for her.”
“I know, and I thank you for that,” Woo Hyun said as he gave him a slight bow before focusing his attention back to Hyun Mi.   Baek Hyun couldn’t help but stare involuntarily. His body wanted to move away, but his heart felt like he should tell him more. “You know, I confessed to her again today.”
Woo Hyun froze in place. He was definitely listening.
“I told her to give me a chance,” Baek Hyun said. Unknowingly, he could feel the tears starting to prickle his eyes. “I told her that I would never hurt her or make her cry the way you did.”
Woo Hyun stared at him. His eyes gave off the illumination of sympathies.
“Even so, she still chose to reject me saying that she has never stopped loving you,” Baek Hyun continued as he bit his lips, trying to hold back the tears to no avail. His shoulders started bouncing furiously as he glared at the idol. “I will forever be her best friend, and nothing more…”
Woo Hyun was speechless. He never thought he would see the cheerful and witty Baek Hyun in such a fragile state.
“Make her happy,” Baek Hyun stated as he softly jerked Woo Hyun’s arms. “Don’t make me regret giving up on her, once and for all.”   Woo Hyun admired the courage it must’ve taken for Baek Hyun to make his final decision. As he was about to walk out the door, Woo Hyun stopped him for the last time. “Byun Baek Hyun, that’s the one thing I can promise you,” he declared.   Baek Hyun gave him a small nod before leaving the room, not looking back again.   Counting Stars at Night – Sunny Hill   Woo Hyun decided to ride the bus to take Hyun Mi home. Seeing her tired and puffed up face made him unable to wake her up. They couldn’t possibly ride his motorcycle in this state, so he decided to leave it at the noraebang place. He can always go and pick it up later. He remembered which bus to take since his own dorm was around the same neighborhood.   He carefully placed her to sit against the window as he took the seat next to her. All the while, Baek Hyun’s words kept ringing in his mind. Did he really made her cry that much? Had he been hurting her all this while? He thought that being patient and keeping a distance was the right thing to do. But judging from the new obtained information, it seemed like his actions caused the person he cared so much about to suffer.   Slightly, he glanced at her, wondering what his next moves would be. He noticed her head pivoting towards the glass, slightly dropping before lifting it again. Gently, he placed his hand against her cheek to prevent her head from hitting the window. He tilted her head so that it would rest against his shoulders instead. As he did so, he noticed a smile forming on her face. Seeing that, he could feel his heart race faster. It was a sight he could only imagine based on his hazy memories of her. Undeniably, he still liked her.
After the bus had arrived at its stop, Woo Hyun remembered the route and distance it took to get to her house. It was the exact same path he walked on after he had first declared his feelings to her. It brought back a lot of nostalgic feeling. He carried the girl on his back as her arms hung loosely around his neck. Being able to hold her from so up close gave him a jovial feeling he had been missing.   “Hyun Mi ah, mianhae,” Woo Hyun spoke, even though he knew that she couldn’t possibly hear him. “I’m sorry for being so stupid. I should’ve run after you the moment you told me you wanted to break up. But technically I couldn’t, since my head was i
