“You look happier these days.” Hakyeon said as he sat down beside Taekwoon who looked up from the screen he had been monitoring.  Hakyeon’s knowing smile was a giveaway, but Taekwoon chose to ignore it. He had told everyone about her, but they had never had the chance to meet her.

“Mhmm.” He said, turning the screen off and pushing it back into his bag before standing up and heading out into the car. He was silent on their ride back as well.

With The Closer promotions, he was certain he wasn’t going to meet her for his birthday. He was trying very hard not to be grumpy about it either, but he really was. So he huffed as he stood outside their practice studio, Jaehwan was with him, holding him back from entering since they were preparing his birthday cake.

“Give it a few minutes, it’s a pretty surprise.” Jaehwan chattered excitedly as Taekwoon rolled his eyes. What kind of a surprise involved them telling him it was cake?

It was pitch dark when he entered the room and Jaehwan hit the lights and the rest of the members charged ahead with a cake decked with colourful candles. Taekwoon grinned, at least there was cake at the end of the day and his loving members.  Jaehwan jumped around excitedly beside him making him chuckle and blow on his neck before turning to the cake to blow on the lit candles. Except when a female voice joined the celebratory singing, he looked up. Her cheeky smile grinned at him from her spot next to Sanghyuk and he gaped.

“How?” he stared at her as she nudged Sanghyuk.

“We’re in the same college.”

Then there was cake shoved in his face and the rest of his group crowded around him as she laughed at his shock. Hongbin bounced towards him asking him if he liked the surprise as Wonshik nudged him towards her and she pulled him into a tight hug.

"Happy birthday." she whispered into his chest.

“Yah Kim Minah, why do you know these fools?” he grumbled, hugging her tighter and resting his cheek on top of her hair.

“Who are you calling fools hm?” Hakyeon chuckled, holding the cake up as the rest of the group attacked it while Taekwoon remained attached to her, completely ignoring them. So he was even more thankful when Hakyeon and Wonshik ushered everyone out and left the two of them alone (after making them consume copious amounts of cake). Taekwoon finally took a seat on the couch, exhausted, before pulling her onto his lap.

“Are you going to explain?”

She tilted her head and scrunched her nose in thought “Hmm, I wanted to see you on your birthday. Sanghyuk got a hold of my number from your phone. We planned it out.” She shrugged as he wrapped his arms around her and she leaned up to press a chaste kiss on his lips. Only to have him drag it out, capturing her lower lip between his and his hands gripping tight onto her sides. He hadn't seen her for a greater part of the month and just to have her in his arms made him unnaturally happy. She pulled away only to chuckle as frowned and pulled her closer.

“Needy old man.”

“Shut up.” He grumbled against her lips as he kissed her yet again, soundly. She felt his hands wander and grinned as she kissed him back. For a fully grown man on his birthday, he was as excited as a child unwrapping his present. Maybe that’s why she loved him.
