Coming Home

All the memories I remember

Oh you please remind me

Oh I remember you

Oh I really miss it baby

Remember - Taru

“Are you sure you already packed everything?” Seyeon asked with furrowed eyebrows, watching Bomi walked around the house, packing for her trip back home.

“Relax, Seyeon-ah! I’m going home, so, it’s okay even if I forget small things!” Bomi reassured her, stuffing her bag with more snacks.

“I know, but basing on our…,” Seyeon stopped and counted, “… 6 years of friendship, I know that you always, always, manage to forget something important.”

“Not this time!” Bomi chirped happily, lifter her bag and shouldered it. “Okay, I’m done! Aaah, it won’t fun without you,” she sighed. “Do you really, really have to practice tomorrow? I mean, it’s the start of summer break! Who practice during the beginning of summer break?”

“My club does,” Seyeon let out a little smile. “Say hi to our friends, and please give my sincere apologize to Jongdae. I hate missing his wedding.”

“Will do!” Bomi promised, but she was distracted. She d herself, stumbling with her pockets and looking around. “Where’s my phone…?” Bomi put down her bag, and started to dig out her stuff.

Seyeon only raised her eyebrows, knowing Bomi for 6 years, that girl always terrible at packing or preparing something.

“Ah, here it is,” Bomi found her phone. “… ugh, wait, where’s my earphones?”

“On your desk,” Seyeon answered with a mom’s patience.

“Oh? How did it end there?” Bomi grabbed her earphones and put it in her pocket. Again, she lifted her bag to her shoulder. “I’m really, really, prepared now,” she tried to convince Seyeon. “Bye bye, good luck on your practice,” she gave Seyeon a hug and a kiss on the cheek.

“Bomi,” Seyeon called when Bomi already reached the front door, “… about Kyungsoo.”

“I know, I won’t talk with him unless it’s necessary, and if I do, I will not cry because of him,” Bomi said it as if she already memorized it. Looked like it’s not the first time they have this conversation. Bomi stood up after wearing her sandals. “Don’t worry, Seyeon-ah!”

“Bomi.”

“I said don’t worry!”

“You forget your wallet,” Seyeon chuckled, hitting Bomi on her arm with her wallet. “Be careful.”

“Hehehe,” Bomi put her wallet into her bag. “I will. See you in a couple days!”

Bomi was already seated in the train next to the window, it’s quite early in the morning and the carriage was almost empty, there’s only a couple other passengers in her carriage. She put on her earphones and was in the middle of choosing a song from her ipod when suddenly a figure stood in the hallway saw and recognize her.

“Bomi-ah?”

Bomi looked up, and her face beamed with happiness instantly upon seeing the familiar figure. “Minseok Oppa!” she exclaimed cheerfully to the person with chubby cheeks and big eyes that gave a mischievous feeling. But then her smile faded a little when she realized who was standing behind that person.

“What a coincidence that you’re also taking this train!” Do Minseok grinned ear-to-ear. “Ah… or maybe it’s not a coincidence after all?” he stared back and forth between Bomi and his little brother behind him, eyebrows wriggled meaningfully.

Kyungsoo glared at his brother – maybe it was supposed to be a glare but his bambi eyes only made it as if he’s shocked, while Bomi could only smile weakly.

“Should we sit together?” Minseok asked Bomi, his eyes gleaming with interest. “If you don’t want to, he can sit somewhere else,” Minseok waved his hand to Kyungsoo without paying any attention. There’s a certain similarity between the brothers: the big eyes, thought they gave out different feeling. Kyungsoo’s made him look innocent while Minseok’s made him look playful. Nevertheless, both of them looked younger than their ages.

“Hyung…,” Kyungsoo complained upon his brother’s abandonment.

“No, it’s okay,” Bomi smiled to Minseok, avoiding Kyungsoo’s eyes on her.

“Great! It’s been ages since I see you!” Minseok flopped himself in the seat in front of Bomi that facing her and dropped his bag next to him, so that the only seat left for Kyungsoo is the seat next to Bomi. Kyungsoo shot a look at him but Minseok only tilted his head, “Hm? Sit down, Kyungsoo!”

Kyungsoo sighed and sat himself next to Bomi. Their arms brushed, and Bomi swift to the window side. This is the fate, Seyeon-ah, not me, Bomi could see Seyeon’s judging stare in her mind.

“So so so!” Minseok pat his thighs in excitement. “How are you doing? I heard from Kyungsoo he met you in the city? Now you’re living with Seyeon-ah? Ah, that girl, I miss her too. Why don’t you two come over to our house sometimes to see me and Youjung-ah? We totally can lock him out if you girls come.” Minseok talked as if Kyungsoo wasn’t there. Kyungsoo groaned but Minseok ignored him just the same, cheerful as ever. Bomi couldn’t help but to chuckle seeing Minseok and Kyungsoo. Minseok had always favored her over his own brother. “I miss you, Bomi-ah. Promise me that you’ll keep contact with me after this?”

“Um!” Bomi nodded.

“Ah, you’re also coming home for the wedding? Who was it…?” Minseok tried to remember the name.

“Jongdae,” Kyungsoo and Bomi answered together. They both glanced at each other from the corner of their eyes awkwardly, and Minseok just grinned seeing his dongsaengs’ interaction.

“Ah, yes, Jongdae! He also came to play a lot, wasn’t he?” Minseok started to open his snacks and offered them to Bomi, but took it away when Kyungsoo reached out his hand. Kyungsoo frowned, shook his head, and finally gave up. He crossed his arms in front of his chest and turned his back a little to Bomi, trying to sleep. Minseok gave Bomi a secret wink. “Oh, will Sunggyu Hyung pick you up in the station?” suddenly Minseok asked in between chewing his dumpling.

“Yes, why?” Bomi also enjoyed Minseok’s dumpling.

“He won’t mind if we join, right?” Minseok’s eyes were glittering with hope. “Our uncle can’t pick us up, but if we can come with you and Hyung it’ll be a great help!”

“Sure, I’ll just text him now…,” Bomi was preparing to text her brother.

“Eeey, no need to! If Hyung knows that you’re with this kid and he needs to drive him, he may change his mind,” Minseok brushed her off. Then he added in a whisper, “But, if Hyung doesn’t want to drive him, I’ll still join with you guys, just left this kid in the station.”

“I hear that,” Kyungsoo growled from his attempt to sleep.

Minseok rolled his eyes, while Bomi let out a little laugh.

Kyungsoo walked back to his seat from the bathroom. He found Minseok asleep – his head bopping up and down, and Bomi too was sleeping, hugging herself with her head fell to her shoulder. Her eyebrows frowned, and she didn’t look comfortable. Maybe because her head sometimes hit the window.

Kyungsoo’s eyes fell to Bomi’s leg, which actually annoyed him since the first time he saw it. Bomi wore a bright colored short that exposed her leg, and Kyungsoo was dying to cover them up. It may be a habit from before, but it’s just didn’t feel right. Kyungsoo sighed as he took off his shirt, and spread them over Bomi’s lap, covering her legs. He sat beside her, and he was fully aware that their shoulders were against each other. He just bit his lips, staring at the ceiling of the train.

A motion from the side made Kyungsoo turned his head, and he saw Bomi’s head bang the window once more; the girl slept the same. Kyungsoo took this chance to take a good look at Bomi. Her brown hair was made into pigtails, and Kyungsoo wondered how on earth a 20 year old could still look good on them. The pigtails also punched him in the stomach for bringing back his younger’s days memories; Bomi used to style her hair in pigtails a lot.

Kyungsoo’s eyes now wandered to Bomi’s lips, and he couldn’t help but remember. It was during the school’s festival, under the tree, in the school’s backyard. But then Kyungsoo remembered about Chanyeol, his wide smile towards Bomi, and the way Bomi stared back and laughed with him, and suddenly Seyeon’s questions were show up in his mind, ‘What if they’re dating, you okay with that too?’

Kyungsoo could only grit his teeth, suppressing his own memories from flowing.

When he finally calmed down, slowly and carefully, he took Bomi’s head and placed it gently on his shoulder. She shifted a little, unconsciously searching for the comfortable position in Kyungsoo’s shoulder.

Kyungsoo heard a giggled, and he looked up to Minseok, winking and holding his thumb up towards him before went back to sleep. Kyungsoo leaned his head back, and when he closed his eyes, he wondered what he was doing.

“… ungh…,” Bomi stirred in her sleep. She opened her eyes slowly, and the first thing she realized is the warmth of the fabric spread on her lap. It was a grey checkered shirt. Bomi frowned, wondered where she saw the shirt before, but then she realized she had been resting her head in Kyungsoo’s shoulder. She immediately straightened her back; blinked and praying Kyungsoo was sleeping so he wouldn’t realize what Bomi did. Bomi peeked, and she thanked God seeing Kyungsoo’s eyes were shut tight.

She let out a relief sigh, but then she noticed that Kyungsoo only wore a white and blue stripes T-Shirt now. Bomi looked down, and her stomach fluttered realizing it’s Kyungsoo’s shirt on her lap. Why are you acting like this, Do Kyungsoo? Why you have to be so considerate at times and a jerk the other times? Bomi sighed inside.

Again, Bomi glanced at Kyungsoo, but this time she took notice of movements under Kyungsoo’s closed eyes; he’s not sleeping, not really. And Bomi remembered, Kyungsoo always had difficulties sleeping in vehicles or in uncomfortable position.

Bomi bend down to reach her bag, muttering whispers, “… pabo…,” as she took out her earphones. Kyungsoo slept better when he listens to music, but for whatever reason he never carries his own earphones. Bomi always prepares the earphones and the ipod for him, and it was from then that Bomi had the habit carrying her earphones everywhere.

Kyungsoo startled when Bomi put the earphones into his ears. He opened his eyes and sent confused look towards Bomi, but the girl just stared at her ipod, ignoring Kyungsoo’s stare. Music started to pour from the earphones, and Kyungsoo faintly remember the song as Remember by Taru . Suddenly Bomi turned to him, her eyebrows frowned, and her lips mouthed, ‘Pabo’ before turning away.

Kyungsoo raised his eyebrows, eyes popped out while he tried to process what just happened. Then a soft smile started to performed in his lips and even reached his eyes. Slowly, he closed his eyes, but he didn’t miss a smirk in his brother’s lips.

Yoon Sunggyu tapped his foot to the floor, arms crossed to his chest, impatience. He looked up to the information board once mare, and then he checked his watch once more. Only two more minutes until his sister’s train came. Still, it meant two more minutes of waiting.  “Tsk,” he leaned back to the column behind him.

Finally the train came, and Sunggyu straightened his back, eyes started to wonder between dozens of people that get off from the train. He narrowed his eyes, before spotting his sister, wearing bright colored shorts and a simple t-shirt, hair tied into pigtails, waving her hand up high as she screamed, “Oppa!”

Sunggyu raised his eyebrows, and opened her arms for a hug. Bomi jumped to his embrace. “What’s with the shorts,” he pulled one of Bomi’s pigtails after they were done hugging.

“It’s summer... and I miss you too,” Bomi smiled to her brother.

“Yeah, why, erts stop working on summer? It’s their time of the year. And you’re alone,” Sunggyu nagged. He was just about to grab Bomi’s bag when suddenly someone shouted, “OPPPAAA!!!” in a high-pitched voice and something jumped into him, grabbing his neck into a hug.

“M-Minseok?” Sunggyu left out a name in the middle of being choked by Minseok.

“And I’m not alone,” Bomi chimed in from behind Minseok. Kyungsoo was standing behind her in a safe distance, watching Sunggyu cautiously as he bowed to him.

“What’s this? You’re together?” Sunggyu absent-mindedly struggled to free himself from Minseok’s hug. His small eyes shifted from smiling Bomi to quiet Kyungsoo.

“No no no! Don’t worry, we just met in the train. I personally watch over Princess Bomi so that kid over there didn’t touch her,” Minseok grinned and secretly winked towards Kyungsoo. Kyungsoo could feel his cheeks reddened. “Hyung, take us home, won’t you?” he clinged to Sunggyu’s arm and stared at him with his big eyes.

“Aish, why you like do aegyo so much?” Sunggyu moved his arm from Minseok. He then continued with staring at Kyungsoo from head-to-toe. Kyungsoo, meanwhile, found out that his shoes were very interesting. “Come on,” Sunggyu finally said to Minseok, he grab Bomi’s bag and reached out his hand for Bomi.

Bomi hopped happily while clinged to Sunggyu’s arm, and Minseok walked beside them, while Kyungsoo walked a little behind still in his safe distance from Sunggyu. He remembered Sunggyu didn’t appreciate him that much for breaking his little sister’s heart.

When they reached Sunggyu’s car, Minseok of course took the passenger’s seat. Sunggyu opened the door for Bomi and gave her her bag, and in the process he managed to send a warning look to Kyungsoo. Kyungsoo pretended to not notice it.

“So, you’re living in your old house, right?” Sunggyu asked as he drove to the road.

“Yes!” Minseok chirped happily, he opened the car’s window and rested his arms in the frame. Fresh breeze went in into the car. “It’s good thing that our uncle want to stay in this town, he could take care of our house.”

“You’re coming just for holiday? Or to baby-sit that punk?” Sunggyu tilted his head towards Kyungsoo in the back.

Bomi sent apologetic look towards Kyungsoo, who sat straight in his seat. He only smiled a little and let out a sigh.

“Weeelll, both,” Minseok grinned. “Assignments are crazy and I need to get away. Kyungsoo said he will attend his friend’s wedding, so I just tag along. But Hyung! Do you realize something?! A 20ish boy is going to be married tomorrow and here we are! Forever alone!” Minseok sighed to the window.

“Speak for yourself,” Sunggyu chuckled, stirred the wheels to the residential area.

“What? You have a girlfriend?” Minseok asked in shock, his wide eyes almost popped – almost like his brother’s.

“Oppa, you have a girlfriend?” Bomi leaned forward, also surprised with this information. “How come I don’t know? Who is she? Your co-worker? A friend?”

Sunggyu waved his hand carelessly, signaled that he doesn’t want to talk about it. “Anyway, Bomi, about tomorrow. Sorry, something’s came up, work, I can’t drive you to your friend’s wedding.”

“Aaww… that’s too bad,” Bomi pouted.

“Call Jonghwan or someone to pick you up, it’s a little bit far, isn’t it?”

Bomi blushed a little at the mention of Jonghwan’s name. She tried not to look at Kyungsoo, while Kyungsoo tried not to frown. Jonghwan. Of course. He looked away.

“It’s okay, Kyungsoo can pick Bomi-ah, right Kyungsoo?” Minseok turned to the back, smiling widely – and meaningfully. “He’s totally can borrow our Uncle’s car. He’s already plan to, so it’s not a big deal. Right? Right?”

Sunggyu was piercing Kyungsoo from the rearview mirror. “... Hmm. It’s better than Bomi has to leave alone... Can I trust her on you?”

Kyungsoo swallowed and nodded slowly, “Of course,” he muttered, and then in a louder tone, “Of course.”

“... You better be. I’ll kick your if you dare to do anything to Bomi.”

Kyungsoo swallowed again, while Minseok seemed indifferent and clapped his hands happily. “All set!”

“Uaaah. I’m full!” Bomi lay in her bed, feeling stuffed and sleepy after the dinner with her family. She scrubbed her eyes, then suddenly remembered that she would go with Kyungsoo tomorrow to Jongdae’s wedding. “... aaaaahhhh!!!” Bomi let out a scream as she buried her head in the pillows.

She frowned. They haven’t really talk since that day in the café. Even when she came to support EXO the other day, they managed to avoid each other swiftly. So much for being a junior high ‘best friends’, when Seyeon and Kyungsoo clearly conversed, she and Kyungsoo were worse than strangers.

They didn’t even talk in the train, or in the car. Not really. Just exhanged looks, speaking with their gazes. Bomi knew. Kyungsoo understood. It’s easy when you knew the other person well, sometimes words weren’t needed.

And then Bomi remembered Kyungsoo covered her legs with his shirt, or the way she rested her head in Kyungsoo shoulders – they were small, but just perfect for her head, Bomi thought – and when she placed the earphones on Kyungsoo’s ears...

Suddenly Bomi kicked the air and the bed several times, frustated. “What am I doing? What should I tomorrow?! Aaaaaah!!!”

A ringtone from her phone disrupting her frustration moment. Bomi rolled and grabbed her phone, checking the new message. It’s Chanyeol. They’ve come to texting-each-other terms right now.

From: Happy Virus

What are you doing, Chibi? Hibernating?

Bomi instantly smiled reading Chanyeol’s text message. She replied it immediately.

To: Happy Virus

Am not! -___- Just finished dinner. I’m stuffed. It’s good to be home ^o^

From: Happy Virus

I’m only eating ramen… T.T I want to go home too. Damn these assignments.

To: Happy Virus

Hahaha, hang in there. Fighting!

From: Happy Virus

Okay… Don’t sleep too late. Nite!

To: Happy Virus

You too. Good night!

Bomi still staring at her phone for a while, at her inbox which full with Chanyeol’s messages. She couldn’t help but feel warm at her insides, just thinking about Chanyeol’s smile. Still, she wasn’t sure what it is.

Suddenly her phone vibrated once more, and her heart almost stopped when she read the name of the sender. DKS, Do Kyungsoo.

From: DKS

So, I’ll pick you up at 9? Long drive to Jongdae’s.

Bomi bit her lips, typing a simple and short ‘Okay, sorry for bothering,’ before sent the message. She groaned and let out inhuman voices as she burried herself in her pillows again, annoyed at herself for still letting Kyungsoo affect her emotion.
