One Shot At A Time
“Are you going for a blind date today?” your room mate and best friend asked from the couch.
“Yup,” you replied as you fixed the rose onto your dress. “My mother forced another one on me.”
“Then let me see what this day has for you!” she hurried off the couch and went to her room. You rolled your eyes as you predicted her coming out with her horoscope toys. She flipped through the book according to the day and your horoscope sign. “Navy.”
“Eh?” you looked at her incredulously.
“It just says ‘Navy.’,” she said, a little confused at the word too. She dropped that book and flipped through her magazine. “Let’s see… ‘Do something for yourself. Look out and grab hold of the moment. The one you meet today might make a difference in your life, probably save your life.’ Huh. *gasps* What if you’re going to meet a Navy officer who’ll save you and end up falling in love with you?! Oh my gosh how romantic…..”
You laughed at her ridiculous suggestion. “Stop exaggerating. And that stuff isn’t real. Don’t spend your life believing pseudo-psychology. They’re just riding on your money and your gullibility.”
She pouted at your words. “You never know, ______. Some of the things that write have come true.”
“Like what? ‘You have a strong inclination towards men’? ‘The people around you love you greatly’? I can say that about anybody! That’s the gullibility that they’re riding on, girl.” You looked at your watch. “I have to go. I’ll tell you how it goes… And finish your work!”
“YES MOM,” she said with emphasis on her nickname for you. You rolled your eyes jokingly and left the house.
