Because I Love You

Fated To You

After dinner that day, Sehun and Luhan didn't see each other again. The last contact they had made with each other was when Sehun gently squeezed his hand under the table before agreeing to go to sleep early. Sehun didn't spare another glance to Luhan after that but he wasn't too bothered by it.

It wasn't until the next morning that he began to feel the stress and dread for Sehun and Hau's wedding. The ceremony was to take place at 11, meaning that everyone was busy preparing. There was not a staff member that wasn't busy. Everyone seemed to be running around the palace, some to set up the wedding hall while others went to assist Haru and Sehun.

"Are you sure you'll be fine?" Kyungsoo rests his hand on Luhan's shoulder. They were both dressed in clean black suits and their hair was done nicely. Kyungsoo found it weird to be getting such luxurious treatment but didn't say anything about it. For Luhan, it was the second time he was pampered like the most important VIP.

"Yeah. I'm fine." Luhan gives Kyungsoo a reassuring smile but Kyungsoo frowns.

"You don't have to attend."

"I want to. I want to be there for Sehun." Luhan tries to seem less sad than really was. He had cried himself the sleep the previous night and woke up with damp cheeks.

"I still don't think this is right. Something isn't right." Kyungsoo thinks but Luhan takes his best friend's hand into his own.

"You don't have to question it anymore. Haru and Sehun are going to get married no matter what."

"You're just going to give up like that, hyung?" Kyungsoo didn't understand. Luhan had revealed to him that Sehun found out of their plan, and that they spent the night together, which clearly upset Kyungsoo.

"I'm no giving u-"

"Yes you are. This is giving Sehun up. You're letting Haru win. You're admitting defeat!"

Luhan sighed. "I can't do anything about it."

Kyungsoo shook his head, "I'd rather see you back in China than watching you stand before Sehun as he marries that bit-"

"Sir Luhan?" One of the servants stood by the door.

"Yes?"

"Princess Haru asks for you in her dressing room." she tells him and Kyungsoo looks at him with a concerned expression.

"Do you want me to go wi-"

"I'll be right there." Luhan says before patting Kyungsoo's shoulder. "I'll be okay. Go find Yixing and Kris. The ceremony starts in a little more than an hour. I'll be right there."

Luhan stood outside Haru's room and took a deep breath. He wasn't ready to face her  but he knew he had to. He had to.

"Haru?" Luhan peaked his head inside and immeidately spotted her standing on a higher circular platform that her long dress completely covered. There was no one else in the room but the two of them.

"How do I look?" She asks with a smile as she turns to him and unsurprisingly, he found her to be stunningly beautiful.

"Beautiful. You look great, really." He says with a half genuine smile. It felt awkard to be happy for her. She was younger than him yet, she was getting married to the man he loved. It really did seem as if she had won.

"Thanks. I'm really nervous."

"Don't be, Sehun will be there." Luhan has a tight smile.

"What if I accidentally say 'No' instead of 'I do"?" Haru laughs and Luhan blinks.

"I don't think-"

Haru smirked. "You'd like that wouldn't you?"

Luhan froze for a second, trying to understand why Haru would have called him here.

"W-What?"

"Please, don't act stupid. Everyone knows you and Sehun were engaged while I was in Japan."

Luhan furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. "H-How did yo-"

"I'm not an idiot. I also know you had with Sehun, too. Are you not ashamed at all of what you did?" Her words came down on him harsh but they didn't hurt as much as he had thought they would.

"I'm not. Sehun and I didn't have . We made love." He says but Haru only scoffs.

"Made love? You're actually 10 right? Nobody says those cheesy, ridiculous things anymore. Get over yourself, Luhan. Sehun isn't in love with you."

Luhan rolled his eyes. "He told me himself. I don't believe a word you say anymore."

Haru stepped off the platform and walked over to one of the desks full of make up and sparkly accessories. Within a few seconds, she had turned back around to face Luhan.

"He told me himself, too, when he gave me this." Haru extends her arm, revealing a familiar silver object, dangling from her index finger.

Luhan's eyes widened and he immediately stepped forward to take it back. Haru was quicker to pull back with a sly smile.

"Give that back!"

"Why? It's mine now. Sehun told me it was for me."

"Well, it's not! It's-"

"Mine. H stands for Haru, doesn't it? Sehun must have been thinking of me when he bought it. Well, even if he wasn't the one who purchased it, it was gifted to me by him so I could really care less."

Luhan could feel the anger building up inside him.

"Sehun would never give that to you."

"Oh, but he did. Why are you in denial?"

"I gave that to him!"

"But he gave it to me. That means it wasn't important to him."

Luhan tightened his hands into fists and glared at Haru. She stood taller than him by 3 inches but he wasn't intimidated.

"Stop lying."

"Maybe I am, maybe I'm not."

"I'm not in the mood to play games." Luhan says but Haru only smiles.

"Me neither Luhan. I have a wedding to attend and I definitely can't miss that."

Luhan doesn't say anything.

"So here's the deal."

Haru steps up to Luhan so that now they were barely 2 feet away from each other.

"I'll cancel the wedding with Sehun," she crosses her arms over her chest. "if you agree to leave Korea and return to China."

Luhan's thoughts stop processing for a second and he can only stare at her in disbelief.

"W-What..?"

"You heard me. I won't marry Sehun if you leave the country."

"You're crazy-"

"I might be for even making this deal but the choice is up the you. In the end, neither of us will have Sehun. Isn't that better for the both of us?" Haru says but Luhan can only feel his heart drop. How had it come to this?

"What if I don't?"

"Then I'll marry Sehun and I promise you, you'll be the first to be removed from the palace. Either way really, you won't be with Sehun but if your selfless decision will decided if I marry him or not."

"This is absurd!" Luhan raises his voice. He was on the losing end of this deal. He wouldn't get Sehun. He wouldn't have Halmeoni.

"Just think it over. You have until we say our vows, which is in...fourty five minute or so." Haru takes a step past him but Luhan grips her arm, stopping her in her tracks.

"What if Sehun doesn't marry you? What if somehow you two don't get married?"

"Well, it's self explanatory. Think of it as my indirect gift to you. Sehun and I aren't getting married, isn't that great for you? In return, you have to leave the country. What I'm saying is, that as long as Sehun and I don't become husband and wife, you must leave the country, whether I stop the wedding or Sehun himself. If I do become queen, you'll be the one suffering so you'll just be skipping all the torture to the exile." She says as if it was really that simple.

"So if I leave,"

"I'll call the wedding off."

"And if you two don't get married,"

"You have to leave." Haru clarifies.

"And if I leave, what will happen to Kyungsoo?"

"Your gay friend? Well, he can't ever know. That would put me in a difficult position. I'll know if you've told him."

"You don't even love Sehun. You don't care about his future."

"You're right. I don't." Haru says, tugging her arm back. "But you do."

Luhan is left standing in the dressing room by himself as Haru is rushed by servants waiting outside her room to her to the wedding hall 3 floors down.

--

"Where's Luhan?" Yixing asks as Kyungsoo takes a seat beside him.

"He's not here yet?"

"No. I thought he'd be with you. Is he okay?" Yixing asks, concerned and Kyungsoo nods.

"Yeah, he should be here soon. Where's Kris?"

"Running late. The town is extremely crowded because of the wedding. All the roads are blocked and security is extremely tight."

"Hopefully he makes it in time." Kyungsoo says before looking around for Jongin but doesn;t spot his boyfriend anywhere. He suspected that he was with Sehun in the other room, waiting for a signal.

"I'll be right back." He tells Yixing before calmly walking down the side aisles to the room where Haru was supposedly on stand by.

"Haru, have you seen Luhan? He's supposed to be Sehun's best man but he's not up front." He tried not to cringe at the sight of how beautiful she looked.

Haru frowns. "I haven't seen him. Have you asked Sehun?"

"No. I'll go check outside again."

Kyungsoo runs past her and as he does, he noticed a familiar scent.

"H-Haru, what perfume are you wearing?" He asks, pausing right at the door.

Haru looks at him weirdly before looking at the bottle on the table. "Cherry Blossom Cherries, why? It's from China."

*Flash back*

Kyungsoo slowly pushed the bathroom, expecting a fowl or horrid smell but instead, the air smelled like cherries. Just as he walked in, he noticed a woman coming out from the stall. She was quite tall, at least compared to himself, with chocolate brown hair that fell just below her shoulders. With her face so tiny, and her skin so pale, he thought he was looking at an angel of some sort. But he came back to his senses when he noticed that she had on the maid's uniform.

"You can use the bathroom now." She says with a smile and respectfully bows towards him. He was taken back by her sudden kindness and automatically returned the gesture.

"Y-Yeah, thank you." Kyungsoo blinks as she walks out casually, leaving him stunned.

"Flashback ends*

"It smells nice." Is all Kyungsoo says before running out the door. He had to tell Halmeoni. Maybe it would reveal Haru's secret. Just maybe.

--

"Kris!" Luhan spots the tall blonde male walking down the hall with a large canvas in his arms.

"Luhan! Exactly the person I was looking for." Kris rests the canvas on the wall and Luhan stands beside Kris.

"What do you mean? The ceremony is about to sta-"

"But you have to look at this! I know you're excited but I finished this during the past few weeks." Kris steps forward to remove the cloth from the hidden art piece.

"Oh my god." Luhan covers his mouth in surprise and admiration. "That's-"

"You and Sehun."

The painting had Sehun's arms around Luhan, the way they had been during the modeling sessions, but he and Sehun were smiling at each other. It wasn't the pose that they had intended to do but rather it looked more natural than the original idea.

"I wanted to capture the two of you in a beautiful moment. To be honest, I couldn't start during the first few days because you two seemed so unhappy and uncomfortable with each other. I had to scrap all my sketches. The moment I noticed ou two had changed, I knew I had to paint your smiles. They were genuine and loving expressions."

"It's absolutely amazing, Kris. I-I'm absolutely speechless." Luhan teared up at the sight of the painting. "Did we really...did we really look like that? That happy?..That in love?"

"I'm an artist of eyes. I paint what I see. Think of this as my wedding gift to you."

Luhan frowned before remembering Kris probably hadn't heard of the change yet.

"Sehun and I aren't getting married."

At first, Kris hadn't registered what Luhan said, until he did. "Yeah, no need to than- wait, what?!"

"Sehun is getting married to his long time fiance."

"Since when?!" Kris seemed hocked but this was all old news. Luhan had gotten over this already.

"Since he returned from Japan. You missed a lot while you were gone."

"I'm really sorry to hear that."

"It's okay. We should probably get going. The wedding is starting soon." Luhan says, glancing at the painting one last time before walking to the wedding hall.

"Sorry I'm late, I had to use the bathroom." Luhan takes a seat beside Jongin.

"You made it on time, don't worry. Sehun's not even at the alter yet."

Luhan nods and takes a look at the crowded wedding hall. Everyone was here to celebrate the matrimony of Korea's crowned prince and new princess. How could he ruin such a lovely event? It was the second wedding prepared in the palace, which must have taken so much effort and work.

"Mr. Lee is also the pastor." Jongin tells him and Luhan smiles at the memory.

Now that he thought about their first encounter, he finally understands what Mr. Lee had meant.

"Doesn't the prince already have a lover?" Luhan asks and Mr. Lee slightly chokes at his words.

"Lover wouldn't be the right term for it."

Suddenly, the classic wedding song played and Luhan could feel his heart thumping loudly. It wasn't even his wedding by he felt nervous. His hands were cold and he could only watch as Sehun comes out in a spotless white tuxedo that makes him look so handsome with his perfected styled hair. In Luhan's eyes, Sehun was walking towards him. But he wasn't. Sehun stood at the alter beside the priest.

"The bride is entering."

Everything seemed to be in slow motion as Haru walked down the aisle. The crowd cheered and applauded as she gracefully advanced down the red carpet of rose petals. Sehun's face seemed emotionless but Haru had on a bright smile.

He could leave now and the wedding would be over. Sehun wouldn't marry Haru. He would go to China.

Or he would watch them get married and hope for Halmeoni's support. He didn't even know what Sehun and his relationship would be degraded to after the wedding. He hadn't thought that far.

Luhan tried to sit still during the Bible verses but it killed him to watch Haru happily stand beside Sehun. They were only 3 feet away from each other, yet they seemed so out of reach.

"Do you, Oh Sehun, take Haru Matsunaga to be your wife?"

Sehun's response was a second slower and Luhan couldn't help but think Sehun had hesitated until he said, "I do."

"And do you, H-"

"I object!"

There was a voice from the crowd that cut off  Mr. Lee's an everyone turned to face the person who had interrupted the ceremony.

Luhan felt his hands go weak but he tried to remain as calm as possible. His stomach was going in knots and everything seemed to spin.

"I don't feel well." He quickly whispers to Jongin. The younger male tried to hold him back from leaving but Luhan quickly gets out of his seat and makes his way to he exit. Kyungsoo looks to Jongin with a confused expression but Jongin can only shrug his shoulders, unsure of what was happening.

"How- Haru!?"

Haru froze and turned around at the sight of the tall artist. "K-Kris..."

"What the hell- You're getting married to Sehun? This is why you left?!"

At that moment, it all made sense. Everything made sense.

Jongin's eyes widened and Kyungsoo watched the entire scene unfold. Halmeoni, seated at the front on her thrown, stood up. There was a mutual understanding of what this meant.

Haru had broken the contract.

--

"Explain." Halmeoni says with a demanding voice. Jongin proudly stood beside the queen as Haru knelt before her in her fancy white wedding dress. It was truly an embarrassing sight. Kris was sitting on the chair, one leg crossed over the other, while Yixing sat beside him. Sehun took his seat across from Kris.

"What else is there to explain?"

"Kris?" Halmeoni looked to the artist.

"I had dated Haru before I started my apprenticeship but we parted because she said she had to return to her fiance." It was clear that Kris was upset with Haru's actions. Yixing couldn't help but finally understand Kris' relationship.

"Haru, did you or did you not have a romantic relationship, an affair, with someone other than Sehun?" Halmeoni asks her and Haru nods with a smirk.

"I did."

"That concludes it. The contract is invalid. It has been since last year." Jongin states, looking at the contract paper on Halmeoni's desk.

"That means Luhan and Sehun could have gotten along just fine. There was no point in-"

Sehun immediately stood up. "Luhan!"

He had to tell Luhan. The contract was nullified and he was no longer bounded to Haru. They could be together and no one could stop them now. Haru was done and out of the way. Everything was perfect. He dashed to the doors of Halmeoni's office but just as he opened the door, Kyungsoo came running in, out of breath.

"Kyungso-"

"Luhan's gone. H-He left."
