Bit by Bit

Fated To You

By the time they went back, the two males were too exhausted and tired to deal with Jongin and Kyungsoo's ranting. Halmeoni simply greeted them both with warm hugs and gentle smiles before dimissing them to bed. It was already 10 and after a long day, Sehun could barely move. When they reached their room, Sehun immediately threw off his shoes and plopped onto his side of the bed with a moan of relief. Luhan quietly followed after the other before walking to the bathroom for a shower.

The past hour still felt like a dream. Had he and Sehun really become friends? Or were they still enemies? Would Sehun hate him tomorrow? Would he act like nothing happened?

Luhan couldn't stop these questions that built up in his mind. He wanted to ask and talk to Sehun a bit more but when he came out of the bathroom, Sehun had already fallen asleep.

The next morning was the same as usual. Luhan was attached to Sehun's waist again and the younger male pushed him away and out of his grasp. Sehun's mental clock was still ticking, meaning that again he had only slept 7 hours when he really need 12.

At the breakfast table, Sehun sat next to Luhan, as he had been doing for days now, but Luhan noticed that he didn't scoot his seat further away.

After their first meal, Luhan dragged Sehun to the rose garden for a morning walk. Sehun nodded his head without any complaint until half an hour later that it was getting too windy outside. Luhan agreed, content that he had still come out with him.

"There's nothing else to do!" Luhan exclaimed, stretching his arms over his head and carrying out the 'o' in 'do'. By now, it was normal for the servants to see Sehun and Luhan mindlessly wandering the halls of the palace. At first, everyone would be on their toes, trying to not upset or anger Sehun but after a few incidents where Luhan would scold Sehun and apologize for his behavior, the maids and staff felt a bit more relaxed. Everyone could tell Luhan had a bit of control over Sehun, and was indeed much more kind-hearted and forgiving then the prince.

"That's because you've done everything already." Sehun says, arms crossed as they walk down the empty hallway.

"You'd think that in such a huge palace, there'd be more things to do.." Luhan frowned, looking out the enormous windows on the wall beside them. The sunlight shined through the glass, making the two of them squint at the brightness.

"Only you would."

They walked a bit more before Luhan got an idea. "There's a library here right?"

Sehun raised his eyebrow. "Yeah...?"

"Is it big?"

"..Sure."

"Great! Lead the way." Luhan smiles up at Sehun with a twinkle in his eyes.

--

"So..why did you want to come here?" Sehun asks as Luhan stares at the enormous walls filled with books of every color and size. It was quite a bit to take in for the older male. Sehun on the other hand barely glanced at it for a second before yawning.

"To read." Luhan says excitedly before walking over and picking up a book randomly.

"It's all in Korean. You wouldn't be able to read it." Sehun says, almost teasing the other.

"Well, that's the whole point! You're going to teach me Korean." Luhan says, taking a few more books out.

"What?!-"

"Shh! This is a library Sehun-ah." Luhan playfully smirks at the blonde boy who rolls his eyes.

"Why do I have to teach you Korean? I never signed up for this, nor agreed to this."

"Halmeoni said so." Luhan says and Sehun narrows his eyes.

"No she didn't."

"Okay, maybe she didn't but if I ask her, she'd definitely make you...Please?" Luhan innocently smiles at the annoyed male who glares at him before letting out a defeated sigh.

"Fine! Only because I'd rather not have Halmeoni force me and also there's nothing else to do."

Luhan smiled as Sehun gave in before carrying the books to a table.

"What do you want me to help you with?" Sehun takes a seat across from Luhan.

"I can speak Korean fluently enough to hold a conversation, like right now, but my formal speech isn't very good.." Luhan explains, taking the top book off the pile. Sehun couldn't help but think back to that day at Halmeoni's office. It was an embarassing and pressuring moment for the both of them.

*Flashback*

"Can you speak, boy? It's disrespectful to not respond when an elderly asks you a question." One of the older men grumbles and Luhan flinches.

He immediately bends forward and bows apologetically. "My apologize."

Before he had even lifted up his head, he heard bursts of snickers and chuckles.

"Did you hear him?" One of the younger men shook his head with a smirk on his face. Luhan couldn't get himself to stand straight. He felt his ears turn red and his cheeks flushed with embarrassment and regret. Why did I say that?

"Do you speak Korean, young man?" One asked and Luhan slowly lifted his head.

"A bit...sir." Luhan mumbles softly.

"What is a child like you doing in the palace? It's no place for fun games. Go home and study." Another says with a mocking chuckle. Luhan's shoulders stiffen at his tone. He spoke to him like he was a kid. He was a grown man for god's sake.

"I'm n-"

"He's right. If you want to be successful in life, you have to study hard. Didn't your parents tell you this?"

...

"Who are you?" He asks, repeating the previous question that Luhan had failed to answer earlier. Luhan knew that he was making fun of him. No one spoke and after a minute, Matsunaga-san leaned back on his chair and cross his arms with a smirk. Once again, the men lost interest in the boy who wouldn't even say his name.

"His name is Luhan. He's actually 23...And he's my future wife."

*Flashback ends*

-

"This would be considered hasoseo-che. What you're speaking in is hapsyo-che." Sehun explains for the 5th time the past hour and a half. He was aggrivated with trying to teach Luhan the difference with the two different forms of speech. Unlike Sehun who was taught and raised to use both, Luhan was struggling with remembering the words.

"When do I use 'hamnida'?" Luhan furrows his brows, reading over the scribbled notes Sehun had written down for him.

"Hapsyo-che! When you're speaking to people of royal or high rankings, you use hasoseo-che." Sehun explains as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"Then what is it for hasoseo-che? Hae- Ha..Hana-"

"Hanaida! This is basic Luhan! Why don't you understand this?" Sehun exclaims, slamming down the book on the table before pushing his chair back. Luhan frowned, knowing that the other was already frustrated with him.

"I'm Chinese, Sehun. Korean is like a second language so it's not easy for me to learn it."

"Chinese and Korean have similar pronunciations. It's not like you're new to Korean either. You know how to speak informally. Formal speech isn't very difficult. You're just not trying hard enough!" Sehun argues, not aware of Luhan's anger. Why couldn't Sehun understand the struggle Luhan was dealing with?

"You know what? I'm not going to learn it! I'm trying my best to understand but all you've been doing is yell at me for saying something wrong or spelling it wrong! Why bother teaching me if you're just going to criticize me for everything? You can't even encourage me a little bit?! I know I'm not that smart or a fast learner when it comes to Korean but you don't have to treat me like I'm stupid. But maybe if I have to speak with those intimidating officials again, I'll just stand there like an idiot, afraid to speak and say something incorrect and ruin your reputation." Luhan bursts before standing up and stomping out of the library, leaving Sehun drowning in a pool of guilt.

"Stupid Sehun!" Luhan curses as he sat alone in the meadow. He couldn't erase the pout off his lips. "Studying with Sehun was supposed to be a fun activity but of course not, he's so fussy and impatient about everything."

Luhan laid back on the grass beneath him, feeling the strong heat of the sun caress his face. "Aish! Yesterday we were all good but now we're back to arguing again..Why does this keep happening..? Was I too mean? I mean, I was the one asking him for help..Maybe I should have put more effort into understanding the lesson."

The more Luhan sat there, taking to himself, the more he felt that it was his fault for yelling at Sehun. It didn't really make sense to him for raising his voice and blaming Sehun for his slow learning skills. After semi-tanning under the sun, Luhan finally sorted out his thoughts and decided to go apologize to Sehun.

Luhan found Sehun sulking, tucked under the blankets on their bed. When Luhan first walked into the room, he had spotted the motionless lump of blankets and had to hold in a laugh. Quietly and slowly approaching the young prince, Luhan  stood on Sehun's side of the bed so that he could see Sehun's face but instead, Sehun rolled over with his back towards Luhan.

Luhan frowned, before taking a deep breath "Sehun-ah.."

Sehun make a sound that almost sounded like a ''hmph", letting Luhan know that he was upset at him.

"I'm sorry for yelling at you..It was my fault that I couldn't learn it. It was wrong and immature of me to blame you when I was just the one who couldn't learn and remember the difference. I really appreciate your efforts to teach me Korean and I would be grateful if you would continue to teach me..I'll work really hard to understand hasoseo-che and hapsyo-che! And I promise I won't get frustrated with you when you correct my mistakes. I'll try my best to be the best and polite wife I can be. Next time those official's come, I'll be sure to not embrass you or myself." Luhan said, hoping that Sehun would accept his apology.

Sehun didn't say anything for a moment. He too had been thinking about how harsh he was towards Luhan. Luhan had only been trying to improve his speech so that he would be a burden towards him but he maybe he was also just too harsh on the other. He too knew how difficult and confusing it could be to learn Korean, having faced the struggle at an even younger age. He had intended to apologize to Luhan first but when the older male came into the room, he knew he was beaten to it.

"I-Imsorry,too."

Muffled under the thick blankets, Luhan couldn't quite hear Sehun.

"What?"

"I'm sorry, too." Sehun said a bit louder and Luhan heard it but decided to a bit more.

"What was that? I couldn't hea-"

"Aish! I said I'm sorry, too!" Sehun raised his voice, lifting the covers from his head and sitting up in his bed only to see Luhan widely smiling.

"What the hell! I take it back!" Sehun felt embarrassed for falling into Luhan's trap and having to repeat his apology so many times.

"No! Sehun-ah!!" Luhan laughed and climbed onto the bed. Or rather on top of Sehun's body.

"Get off me." Sehun mumbled under the covers but Luhan only laughed again.

"You're so cute when you're embarrassed!"

"I am not cute! I am manly and handsome!" Sehun explained, correcting Luhan's description. But underneath, Sehun couldn't help but smile.

He just called me cute!

"Okay, okay! You're the manliest and most handsome man!" Luhan went along with Sehun, trying to pry off the blankets from his head.

Sehun stopped struggling under Luhan's body weight and peered out, only his eyes and the bridge of his eyes visible.

"Really?"

"Really." Luhan smiled and Sehun couldn't refuse such a flattering comment.

"Well, then I guess..I could..-'

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!!" Luhan hugged Sehun's body tighter and rested his head on his shoulder, causing Sehun to feel flustered and avoid eye contact.

"Y-Yah! I didn't even say anything!"

"You don't need to." Luhan smiled, relieved that the argument was now over.

"Well get off me! You're heavy and I'm feeling a bit stuffy in here." Sehun frowned and Luhan chuckled.

"Okay.. wait!" Just as Luhan was about to get up, he leaned over and placed his lips on Sehun's cheek for a quick peck. Leaving Sehun in complete shock. Luhan happily skipped his way out of the room, humming to some Chinese song Sehun had never heard of.

"What..just..happened?!"
