Chapter 2

The Other Girl

"Can't you just leave her alone?" Kris' harsh gaze seemed to rip her apart.

Nayoung wanted to run away, but her pride kept her feet planted against the ground, arms crossed in an authoritative manner."No."

"I'm not even going to ask for a reason why." Kris' rolled his eyes, clearly annoyed with her. Nayoung glance around at the 11 boys, they were all looking at her, glaring at her. She clenched her fists. It was the same look, exactly the same. The same judgmental eyes that everyone looked at her with, the same eyes Kyungmi gave her. She suppressed a growl to control herself.

Chanyeol slammed his hands on the table, and stood up from the bench, "Just leave them both alone okay? Lu Han will never like you. Never. He hates brats like you. So just give up and let them be." Baekhyun held the giant's arm, beckoning him to calm down. Chanyeol clenched his teeth, but complied.

Ouch. Okay, that stung. A bit. But Nayoung refused to let her smirk falter. She stood her ground, but couldn't find anything to retort with. She was stubborn, and she knew that she wouldn't win, but she refused to admit it.

"Just go away."
The girl refused to budge. She was Kang Nayoung, she would not back down to the likes if them. Even though she couldn't exactly say anything back, she still had her pride. Just on cue, the school bell tolled, signaling the end of lunch.

"Thank god." All eleven boys stood up and left, making sure to send a few glares in her direction before leaving to their next class.

~~~~(A/N: ~~~ means a short skip in time)
"Hey guys, wasn't that a bit harsh?" Chen turned to look at the other members, brows knitted together in a frown. He continued hesitantly when the members sent him incredulous looks, "I mean, she seems to really like Lu Han hyung, we could have really upset her."
His fellow beagle line members patted him on the back and laughed good humorously, "Our Jongdae's too kind hearted, you know shes just like all those other girls right? She only likes hyung because he's good looking and popular."
Chen pouted, "Oh, I guess that could be true." But something in the back of his mind told him she wasn't like that, something about the way she looked at him seemed sincere. He remembered that flash of disappointment in her eyes when Lu Han left with Kyungmi, but it had disappeared as quickly as it had come. Chen shook his head, maybe he was imagining things.
~~~~

The last bell rang, and students were already filing out of their class rooms to go home. Lu Han waved to his friends and walked out the school gates. School was finally over. What a relief. He almost ran out of the school, he just couldn't wait to get home and sleep. His mood dropped like a rock when he recognised a familiar black car parked at the entrance of the school. That was his father's car. What would his dad be doing here? As he got closer he noticed the figure of a tall, lean man. That was definitely his father.

"We have a dinner with the Kang's." His father spoke in an authoritative tone, sparing an apologetic glance at his son as he sat down in the passenger seat. Lu Han didn't give a reply. They had just announce the marriage yesterday, and there was already a dinner planned? "It's at 7, get dressed and be ready by 6:30," his father continued to give him instructions as they drove off.

Lu Han suppressed a sigh and ran a hand through his hair frustratedly.

"I know you don't like the idea of an arrange marriage, but just bear with it. We need this partnership."

He had to force himself not to yell, "Why can't you establish a partnership without a marriage. Go talk to them and make a deal or something. I already told you from the start that I don't want to be involved in your problems."

Luhan heard a sigh from his dad, "Look, when we have a strong relationship with the Kang's you can do whatever you want, but right now, this is the only way-"

He cut off his father, "So you mean I can get a divorce? If the partnership isn't affected?"

"Yes."

"Fine. But I'm not even going to bother to act nice, don't expect me to give anything to this relationship. I'm doing this because I have to."

"I'll try my best to find an alternative okay? So just bear with it for a while." Lu Han nodded silently, and shifted his gaze to the window. That was enough to lift Lu Han's mood. Although he was far from happy, he felt better. Maybe there was hope for him after all.

When he arrived at his house, Lu Han quickly disappeared in his room.

"Make sure to wear something nice. A suit is preferable!" His father's voice echoed below. Lu Han glowered, taking out his suit out of one of the deep corners of his cupboard. He hadn't worn it since last year, and a small amount of dust had accumulated on the shoulders. The deer eyed male carelessly dusted it off and threw it onto his bed. Now time to shower.

~~~~~~
"Be nice. You'll take their daughter out for a date while we discuss the marriage." The male blew a tired breath, nodding half heartedly at his mother's request. Lu Han tugged uncomfortably at his tie, loosening his collar to help with the stifling heat in the restaurant.
"Oh look it's Mr Kang. Theyre here now." His mother's gentle voice rang through his ears and Lu Han looked up expectantly. He saw three people. A tall man, a woman standing beside him, he was assuming that was the wife.  The back of a petite girl was standing further away from the two. She had straight black hair that fell down her shoulders perfectly. She was tugging down at her dress, making Lu Han chuckle. It seemed like he hadn't been the only one that had been forced to wear fancy attire. Despite the short length of the girl's skirt,(although if you compared it to the woman next to her, it didn't seem short at all) Lu Han had to admit the dress flattered her figure perfectly, it hugged her slim waist in a comfortable, elegant way. The boy couldn't help but stare. She was..pretty. Even though he hadn't seen her face, he knew she would be pretty. Almost like a princess. He quickly turned to his empty plate in embarrassment. He had a beautiful girlfriend already, why was he staring at some other girl?
The three family members made their way towards them.
"Annyeonghaseyo, nice to meet you Mr. Lu. This is my daughter Kang Nayoung."
Lu Han's heart stopped. What. Kang Nayoung?
Kang.
Na.
Young.
Did he hear wrong? The image of the school queenka flashed into his mind, and the feeling of dread filled his heart. Surely there was more than just one Kang Nayoung.. right? He looked up to see familiar sharp eyes, flawless skin, and an all so familiar mocking smirk. If it was possible for his heart to sink any lower, it probably had hit rock bottom by now.
He met eyes with the girl, and she gave a smile, "pleasure to make your acquaintance, Lu Han."
The latter almost curse out loud. He swallowed his anger, controlling his emotions by cursing silently to himself instead. Of course it had to be her.
Lu Han faked a smile, "Nice to meet you too. Nayoung."
"Now you two go out and learn more about each other." Nayoung's mother shooed them away and out if the restaurant.
 "Drive her home as well okay?" Lu Han heard his mother call behind him.
As soon as they were out of sight, Lu Han's mood took a 180 degree turn. His fake smile completely disappeared, being replaced with a scowl. He couldn't believe it. This couldn't be a coincidence.
"Why you? He narrowed his eyes in an accusing way at the younger girl, "Aish, I don't know what you did to get me here, or why you put me up for this marriage, but it's never going to work." His comments took her off guard. Did he seriously think she had planned this marriage? Did he really think she would stoop that low? Honestly, she was quite insulted. She was completely against the marriage when she first heard about it too, but now that she knew the man was Lu Han, she didn't mind. She was honestly quite glad. Her parents had actually dine something good this time.
She bit her lip in annoyance, "I didn't know about this marriage until yesterday too. Do you really think I would pull something like this just to get you?"
The wasn't even a second of hesitance before he replied, "Yes." His short, instant reply was like a slap in the face. Did he really think she was that terrible of a person? She grimaced slightly at his cold eyes. She had never seen such a glacial look from him before, he always had such warm eyes. She hated that he was so cold toward her.
Lu Han didn't look at her, "Where do you want to go?"
The girl rolled her eyes at his half hearted, almost bored, question. However, a small smile crept to her lips. At least he was still considerate.
"Myeongdong shopping centre." Lu Han choked on the air. Myeongdong was almost two hours drive away. She was kidding right? The male gave her a look, but then he realised she was being serious. He ushered her into his car, and left in a sour mood.
~~~~~

"Okay, go choose whatever you want, I'll pay." Lu Han had taken her to one of the most fancy and expensive clothing stores after arriving at the shopping mall.

Nayoung stubbornly crossed her arms, "What if I don't want it?"
Lu Han could feel his patience wearing thin. He was soooo close to losing it.

"What do you want then?" He spoke impatiently, trying to keep down his anger. She didn't give him a reply, only looking away.

"If you're going to be like that, forget it," he raised his voice in frustration, "do whatever you want."

Lu Han left the store in an even more sour mood. He knew he wasn't always this ill tempered, but he couldn't be bothered with manners right now. He had been forced into this marriage, the girl turned out to be Nayoung, she had made him drive two whole hours to come here, pestered him the whole way, and now they were here, she wasn't accepting his effort in being nice. On top of it all, this girl had bullied Miyoung and made her cry. He bloody hated the girl for god's sake. He found no reason to make an effort at all. Lu Han stormed off, maybe he could go to a book store for something to read, or a clothing store to change out of his uncomfortable suit.

The girl puffed out her cheeks immaturely, shooting daggers into Lu Han's disappearing figure. Nayoung felt her blood boil, feeling heat rise to her cheeks in embarrassment. How dare he just ditch her like that?! She huffed frustratedly and blew a few strays hairs out of her face, "Gosh, he didn't even ask me what I wanted to do, he just assumed that I wanted to go shopping. Tch." She continued to rant and complain to herself a while longer before finally leaving the store, deciding to find her favourite ice cream store. The whole reason she wanted to go to Myeongdong was because this was the place that had the best ice cream. It seemed like a trivial reason to make some one drive all the way here for, but it was absolutely the most delicious ice cream in the world. She looked around the shopping mall, trying to find a glimpse of blonde hair in the crowd, maybe she should get some ice cream for Lu Han too.

~~~~~
It was close to 12 pm now, and Lu Han was beginning to regret his decision of leaving Nayoung before. This shopping mall was absolutely massive, how was he meant to find her here? He scolded himself for being such an idiot, he could have at least gotten her number, or something. He had no way to contact her now. He searched through every clothing store, went into all make up shops and everywhere else he thought she would go. Almost an hour's search later, Lu Han was exhausted. Where could she be? Nayoung was no where in sight. She couldn't have left, could she? He couldn't remember the last time he had been this anxious before. Even though he wasn't fond of her, the uncomfortable churning in his stomach told him he was worried, very worried. It was really late. And she was a girl, not to mention how tiny she was. What if someone had assaulted her? There were a lot of thugs around at this time of night.
At that moment, as he made his way toward another clothing store, he caught sight of her. A wave of relief washed over him, and he unconsciously smiled. Of all places she could be, he found her right here, sitting on an empty bench, ice cream in one hand and a thick novel in the other. Beside her was a large plastic bag. It seemed she had actually gone shopping.
"Kang Nayoung!" Lu Han called her name. No reply. He walked closer, hoping to grab her attention. He almost chuckled, she was so distracted by the book she hadn't even noticed when he was right in front of her. The girl looked so focused on the book, she was reading so intently, and it was almost amusing. For a moment Lu Han forgot that this was Kang Nayoung. He forgot that this was the same girl that gave his friends and him such a hard time. Seeing her without the cocky smirk, without the harsh words, it was almost as if it was a completely different person. "Nayoung." He called her again, and this time she responded.
As soon as she looked up at him, everything changed. Her cold eyes narrowed on him angrily. He really hated looking into her eyes. They were so cold and unforgiving, always on guard, always accusing.
"What?" She responded flatly, and almost rudely.
"We're going home now, we're almost two hours late." Lu Han's thoughts from earlier had completely disappeared. He met her obnoxious, and slightly cocky gaze with an equally cold one. To think that just minutes before he had actually thought she wasn't such a bad person.
"I don't want to go home."
He heaved a tired breath, and there was her bratty side starting to show, "We're going home now, don't you care about your parents? they're probably worried sick-"
She cut him off almost immediately, "Don't worry, they don't care."
That ticked him off. Lu Han could handle everything else, but the one thing he couldn't stand was when someone disregarded their parent's like that. To think that she was so self centered that she thought her parents didn't care about her. So typical. She was probably one of those immature girls that were showered with love but never appreciated it. The ones that cried over getting a black iPhone instead of a white one. The ones that threw tantrums when dinner wasn't her favourite dish. He detested people like that.
"How can you be so selfish? Don't make your parents worry like this. I can't believe you'd throw aside their feelings like trash."
Nayoung only glared at him, but she didn't reply. The male pulled her roughly off the bench and gave her a stern, icy glare, "We're leaving. Now."
The car ride home was silent. Unlike the annoying banter on the way to Myeongdong, Nayoung didn't didn't utter a word. She was staring distractedly out the window when Lu Han gave her his phone.
"Give me your mobile number, so this doesn't happen again." She snatched the phone away with a huff of annoyance, still throwing a mini tantrum over being dragged home. Lu Han sighed, again. She was so childish and immature for her age. He wondered how many times he had sighed today, he could probably break a Guinness world record with that. Lu Han took a glance back at the large plastic bag beside her. He frowned in confusion when he noticed the contents inside. What was she doing with a whole bunch of colouring pencils? He contemplated asking her, but shook the thought way, he was starting to get nosy.
Lu Han squinted his eyes, struggling to find the right house in the dark. Why did all these houses look exactly the same?
"We're here," Nayoung pointed to the house to their left, a scowl on her features. Lu Han whipped his head around, surprised that she had actually spoken to him. It was strange to hear her voice after an two hours of complete silence.
The house was a beautiful white double story building. One look and it was obvious her family was loaded. It was almost big enough to be a mansion. He rang the doorbell and waited patiently for Nayoung's parents. His father's words rang in his mind and he reminded himself to be polite. The door swung open and Lu Han was greeted by Nayoung's mother.
"Omo! Lu Han! What a pleasant surprise!" She greeted him enthusiastically.
He couldn't help but smile back at her warm welcome, "Sorry for being so late and making you worry."
She only laughed good heartedly, "Oh no, don't worry about it, it's fine. Did she give you a hard time?"
Yes. He was so tempted to say that, but lied, shaking his head politely, "We had a good time."
"Well I hope you have a good night, Lu Han. Thank you for driving her home." Nayoung's mother bid him goodnight. Lu Han sent a glance toward the girl beside him. Her lips were set in a thin line, the perfect stoic mask, he couldn't tell if she was still upset or not.
"Good night Mrs Kang." He turned to leave after sparing another quick glance at the her again. He didn't know why, but there was a strange feeling in his stomach. He turned back again, just as Nayoung disappeared into the house.
Something didn't seem quite right.
