The Encounter

Come Back, Don't Go

---

It was way past curfew when you decided to go home from the studio. One reason was that you forgot you actually had one. You got used to living alone with your close friends abroad that you still thought you could do anything you want. But you’re not, and you’re thinking you needed to go home, fast or else there will be consequences.

You turned off the last light and headed for the door holding with you your black duffel bag and placed it on your right shoulder swiftly. After running down the flight of stairs, you gazed at the person almost half asleep by the counter. You nudged him to wake up.

“Yah!” You shouted right on his ears since you were getting impatient.

“Aw, shouting really? Tss, I haven’t seen you in two years and you didn’t change a bit Cho Jae Min.” You were startled for a second there. It has been so long since someone called you by your real name. Since you stayed abroad, Europe to be close, Jamie was your name. You are fluent in English, no doubt.

“I-I need to go now,” and he was just looking at you with a so-what-if-you’re-going-home look.

“You told me you’d bring me home!” You whined. You were born half-, that’s why.

“I said maybe I’d bring you home. But there are still customers and I can’t just close the building. You can always take a cab.”

“I don’t trust cab drivers. They’re creepy.”

“Then you can walk. You’re house isn’t that far from what I know.”

“You’re really just gonna let me walk alone in the dark all by myself?” You pointed outside. It really was creepy, and you hate it.

“Don’t you have a heart?” You added, but he just won’t budge.

“Yah oppa! I’ll give you my signed shirt from-”

“Huh, tricky. I won’t fall for that. Besides, I could always just ask your brother for it.” You gave up. You’ve been gone for two years and he hasn’t change either. Kim Jonghyun, or JR has been one of your few friends since forever. He’s about four years older than you so you like calling him oppa even though he hates it. He has always been the indifferent one.

“Fine! If anything happens to me, I’d blame you!” You said and stormed out of the building half-wanting him to run after you but you failed miserably on making him feel guilty. So I really am walking alone. You thought. You hugged your thin sweater tighter since it was so cold at night.

Your house really isn’t that far, you just wanted someone to accompany you home since you just came back three days ago and you were never alone for two years back in Europe. You always had your friends around with you. This will be a lot of getting used to.

You were walking for a good 5 minutes now when you saw a shadow come out of an alley. Weird enough, he was holding a shiny object you gathered was a knife, thanks to the light post near you. Oh not this one! My body’s beat up, I can’t fight him. You walked slower while he came fast making you move to the side, and you specifically leaned on the wall. Bad move! Aish.

The blurry man in front of you cornered you quickly and held out his knife by your neck. You can see desperation in his eyes. You kind of feel sorry for him, but you let it go. Practically because you may die in one move.

“Give me your money! Or your phone! Aish. Give me your bag-yea your bag and I swear I won’t kill you.”

“Were you?” You seemed not to believe him. But he glared at you. Geez. This one’s actually serious.

You were slowly lifting your duffel bag strap away from your shoulder, holding with your left hand the bag itself when someone interfered and air kicked the guy’s rib. That must hurt. You thought. You watched as both of them fight each other and was amazed by how skillful your ‘savior’ is dodging every punch the thief gives while he perfectly hits the thief every time. The thief scurries away knowing he’ll be defeated.

“Yah!” he shouted at the thief. Please, I could’ve taken care of him. You just had to show up. You rolled your eyes. But then he looked at you. And you just stared back.

“I believe you should say thank you.” Then he smirked. Jerk.

“I didn’t ask for your help.”

“You would have. Besides you’re just a girl.”

“You shouldn't underestimate strangers.” You started to walk away. You didn’t like his presence. Most of all, you didn’t want to argue over someone who you doubt even thinks lowly of himself. Conceited .

“It’s not safe to walk alone on these times of the night.”

“Really?!” You were sarcastic as well, most of times. You even gotten your eyes wide open and covered your mouth with a hand to make it more dramatic, but it was mostly to piss him off.

“Tss.” He walks away. Something about him bothers you so you’re finally at peace now that he’s gone. You ran your way home afraid of another encounter with such people, both the thief and the ‘savior’.

You finally reached your house and went to the small monitor on the wall beside the door and placed your hand on it. It scanned your hand and your eyes and when it was confirmed, the tall, hard gate opened. This thing was also something you had to get used to. You’re a rich kid so everything has to be kept guarded, sadly.

You ran down the pathway and knocked on the door that was quickly opened by maids. You zoomed straight in your room on the second floor and hopped to bed. Luckily, your mom was too busy to scold you. Yea, you were almost 18, but still… you’re not. And that .

Then your phone rang and you answered it without even looking up on who it was. It’s past midnight and you’re dead tired. No one should complain.

“Hello?”

“Are you home now?”

“Aw, oppa actually cares~” You said with a hint of sarcasm, always.

“Tss. Just answer the question.” And you can tell he had furrowed brows.

“Yes, I just got home. Thanks for nothing oppa. See you soon.” And you ended the call and crumpled on to sleep. That was how tired you were. Weird enough, you remembered your ‘savior’ appeared in front of you earlier, saving you from thief. This is odd. But you just let it since you can’t overpower sleep any longer.

“She’s... oddly interesting,” Your 'savior' said somewhere not far as he recollects the incident.
