Yongguk squeezed your hand tightly while flashing you his gummy smile. You gently grab his arm, giving back a light squeeze, returning a smile. You rested your head on his shoulder as he rested his on yours. You were on the way to an orphanage called Home Town Orphanage located in Seoul. Yongguk planned on doing this volunteer work together with his friends and he decided to ask you, his girlfriend to tag along since he knew that you love doing volunteer work.

You didn’t hesitate at all but instead you agreed right away. You were beyond glad to be invited to do this kind of community service. The journey took around 30 minutes to reach. During the whole journey, you spent your time talking to Yongguk about how excited you are.

“I can’t wait to see those kids.” You clapped your hand excitedly while looking at Yongguk. He smiled and tugged a tuft of your hair behind your ears lovingly. “Me too.” He said. You knew he was excited too but he didn’t show it. His eyes was sparkling throughout the time you both were talking about kids. The both of you talk about how lovely kids are and how innocent they can be.

“Yongguk, when you’re married, how many kids do you want?” You asked since there were no more things you could ask. It wasn’t like you try to hint him that you both will marry each other but you were curious since Yongguk’s love for kids is beyond amazing. Yongguk kept quite for a while and then blushed deep red. He smiled shyly pretending to scratch his head, thinking so hard but in reality he was actually hiding his smile.

“Um… maybe four? Five? Or Ten?” He chuckled for a while before continuing, “Or more? Depends if my wife can take it. But I’m sure she can, despite that her body is so small.” His voice sounded like he was teasing. When he talk, he didn’t look at you. It’s either he was avoiding eye contact because he was shy or that the girl he was referring to isn’t you. You pouted and pretended that you were shocked, “Wow! Poor your future wife! I’m sure she’s a strong girl! But how do you know she has a small figure?” You questioned back. He played along saying that he knows it because that girl is sitting next to him. You couldn’t help but to blush and look away.

“I’m not as strong as you think okay, 10 kids? That’s insane. What are you trying to make them as? A football team?” Yongguk burst into laughter when he heard you said that. Everyone else who were inside the bus turned around to look at where the both of you seated, wondering what’s the joke about. “What’s funny, what’s funny? Mind sharing?” One of the volunteer, Jimin asked with a playful smile spreading across his face. Yongguk waved his hand to show that there isn’t anything funny to share. He then whispered to you saying that the earlier talk is supposed to be a secret and no one should know about it.

Just then, the bus you both and the other volunteers were in came to a stop.  Yongguk took a peek outside the window and smile few seconds later knowing that they have reached the destination. He got up from his sit, pulling you along and said, “Alright, guys! We’ve reached. Let’s get down.” You followed him saying ‘Let’s get down’ and said it in a rapping way earning a laugh from Yongguk. “You know you’re so cute.”

Everyone gathered in front of the Orphanage and you can already see kids from the orphanage peeking at their windows to see what’s the commotion about. The female captain who’s in charge of Hope Town Orphanage greeted the 15 volunteers warmly with a smile. She shook hands with all the 15 volunteers while saying words of how much she is thankful for the volunteers to volunteer themselves to do all this. She welcomes the volunteers in and introduces you and the other 14 volunteers to the kids. The kids look at each one of you with puppy eyes like as if they had never seen people visiting them. You take a look over at Yongguk and you can see how bright his smile was. He waved to the kids flashing his gummy smile and the kids return back with a shy smile.

It was the session to get to know the kids and every five volunteers are given 10 kids to attend to. Like it was luck, you were in a group with Yongguk along with Jimin, Jungshin and Bora. The five of you sat in a circle together with the five kids. Each volunteer are seated in between two kids and that makes it fair for all. You were seated opposite Yongguk and he let the two kids that sit next to him to sit on his laps. You couldn’t help but to melt at the sight of it. The way he talked to the kids make it looks like it was his own child.

Starting from Yongguk, he began to introduce himself following with the one sitting next to him in a clockwise direction. However when everyone was anticipating for the kid to talk, she remains quite and kept her gaze on the floor, playing the tiles using her fingers. The little girl didn’t look up despite the fact that Yongguk nudge her softly saying it was her turn to talk.

She shook her head slowly refused to talk. Yongguk then started to question her asking why wouldn’t she talk and that everyone is waiting. “Everyone would like to hear your name, my dear. Come on; show your pretty face to everyone.” He urges the little girl but she ignored. She looked down on Yongguk’s laps ignoring the words. You wanted to walk towards the girl to coax her but she muttered something. Everyone look at her trying to hear what she was saying.

You heard something along the line but wasn’t quite sure of it. Yongguk asked her to repeat and she did. “I’m dirty.” Everyone became a little shocked at her words. Yongguk told everyone that he would talk to the little girl at a corner, while looking at you, indirectly asking you to follow him along while the rest can continue with their game. You nodded and stood up before saying, “You guys can have fun first.” Bora showed the ‘ok’ sign, assuring you and Yongguk that they will handle the other kids well.

Yongguk brought the little girl at the dining table and asked her to sit on the chair. She did as what she was told but still kept her gaze on the floor while scratching her arm non-stop. Yongguk bent down so he is as the same level as the little girl. He hold her hand but she pushed it away harshly, “Don’t touch me, I’m dirty.” This time you bent down together with Yongguk, looking at the little girl.

“What do you mean dirty?” Yongguk asked while he put a tuft of hair behind her ears like what he did to you earlier in the bus. “I’m dirty, you can’t touch me or else you will get dirty too.” She mumbled but the both of you heard her. “No, sweetheart. You’re not at all. What do you mean you are dirty when you are this beautiful,” He paused and lifted her chin up so he could look at her angel-like face. Indeed she is beautiful. She has an allergy to certain things and that make it so easy for her to get rashes, causing her skin to peel of so easily due to the many times she scratched her arm. But at the sight of it doesn’t even make you feel disgusted or dirty like she said.

With her right hand that Yongguk’s holding, you grab her left hand and gently rubbed on it. “There’s nothing that can make you feel you aren’t beautiful. Everyone is beautiful and you’re one of them. No one can say you’re not, okay? Now pretty girl, can you tell unnie and oppa what’s your name?” You asked calmly in hoping that she won’t show attitude at the fact that you tried to coax her. “Nara…” She spoke so softly. You smiled at her and then look at Yongguk. He gave you a smile back and returns his gaze back to Nara. “Such a beautiful name like the girl itself.” He patted her head gently making the girl slowly lift her head up to look at you and Yongguk.

“I’m not dirty, am I?” She asked making the both of you shook your heads, agreeing that she isn’t dirty like she thinks she is. “This pretty girl in front of me is too pretty that she make me fall for her.” Yongguk spoke and successfully make Nara smile sweetly. She muttered a ‘thank you’ and embarrassed that she didn’t want to look up. You poke Yongguk’s side mouthing towards him that if he said that one more time, you will get jealous but of course jokingly and then earning a smile from him.

Nara slowly took the courage to look at the both of you and started talking. “Are you both friends?” You nodded at her and then look at Yongguk, winking towards him. “You both would make a good couple. Oppa is so good looking, and unnie, you look like my mom, she is so pretty… I love looking at her when I was young but now I couldn’t… She left me too early when I was five. Two years she left me but I missed her so much.” Tears rolled down her cheeks as she spoke. As a seven years old kid, it was so strong of her to not break down and cried emotionally in front of you and Yongguk.

She sniffed and wiped away her tears. You couldn’t take it seeing her cry and makes you cry as well. Yongguk too, felt it was too emotional but he didn’t cry. You pulled Nara into a hug and gently her back. “You can cry on me if you want.” Upon hearing that, Nara cried as much as she could, wetting your t-shirt. Her body moved up and down as she shed tears in sorrow. “But I’m strong, I’m strong.” She slowly pulled apart from the hug and wipes her tears. You smiled looking at how strong the seven year old is. “You’re really strong girl, I’m so proud of you, Nara.” Yongguk praised her and she smiled lovingly.

After a while, Nara gladly returns with the other nine kids and join in the game. Right after the talk you and Yongguk gave Nara, you could see her smiling like it was the most beautiful smile ever.

Half of the day spent in the Orphanage and it was time to bid goodbye after long hours of playing and having fun. Some of the kids shed tears as the volunteers took the leave. Some even didn’t want to leave Yongguk’s side and had to ask the female in charge to coax her. You could see the sad look in Yongguk’s eyes as he waved goodbye to the kids like he himself didn’t want to leave them.

In the bus, Yongguk gave a speech of thankful to those who volunteered and wish that if there were any future events like this, he hopes the same people would volunteer themselves again. Everyone was dead tired and almost half of the volunteers fall into deep slumber in the bus.

“You've worked hard.” You patted Yongguk’s shoulder the moment he rested his head on the back of the bus seat. He sighed tiredly and looked at you, “You too, babe.” You smiled at him combing his fringe using your fingers. “But you worked extra hard than all of us here.” You said, your voice sounded so tired. “Everyone work hard equally, okay. Now I know you’re tired, you need rest.” Yongguk replied.

“But I wanna talk to you.” “About what?” “About Nara. You said you fall for her. I’m jealous.” “What? There’s gonna be another girl that I’ll say the same thing too.” “Who!” You straighten your body this time. “My daughter. I’m gonna say that I fall for her cause she’s too pretty like her mom.” You couldn’t help but to blushed. “I’m so tired already why are you making me blush?”

“Your fault. You said you were jealous so I explained more.” Yongguk replied nonchalantly. “Why are you so sweet?” You asked, resting your head on his shoulder. “Because I have a girlfriend who’s sweeter than honey.”

“Hehe, I love you.” You muttered and kiss his cheek. “Love you more, thank you for today.”
